Manchester United and AC Milan have reportedly joined Liverpool in the quest to sign Torino defender Angelo Ogbonna, who revealed this week that he favours a move to the English Premier League.
Three days ago, The Italy International responded to rumours linking him with a move to Anfield. He told Sky Sports:
"It is flattering to be linked with Liverpool, one of the biggest clubs in the world. It's very famous.
"English football fascinates me, and the style is similar to Torino's one. And I speak English."
Ogbonna has been linked with Liverpool many times over the last year, and in November 2011, he confirmed the Reds' interest:
"I am flattered by the interest from clubs. Liverpool is a dream club, it is awesome that they are interested in me. I love the Premier League and one day I might play in that league".
Tutto Sport also claims that Liverpool sent scouts to watch the defender at the weekend.
Torino director Gianluca Petrachi was asked last month if the club would sell Ogbonna in January, or in the summer, and he said:
"There are observers of many foreign clubs who come just to see Ogbonna because he is a player who has great potential. Last year we refused €10m for him but it is clear he is worth more than €16m [£13m]
24-year-old Ogbonna was included in Italy’s Euro 2012 squad after helping Torino win promotion to Serie A.
After leaking goals all season, Liverpool arguably do need defensive reinforcements, but the priority in January must surely be attacking players, specifically one or (ideally) two strikers.
There are plenty of young defenders at Anfield who can come into the team and cover if necessary, and with the futures of Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel now assured, perhaps we'll start to see more solidity from their partnership.

with Skirtel & Agger fit , & 4 excellent backups ,
Kelly, Coates, Wisdom, & Sama the only problem
is of BR`s own making keep playing the useless
Carragher . The mind boggles why the normally
very sensible BR continues to use him , to the
detriment of younger guys . As you rightly say
2 top class speedy strikers are a priority .
Hooper looks like a really good striker ,but
same applies if Utd want him he will go there.

Ferguson is always interested to 'snipe' Liverpool (going after Liverpool targets). Jones, Young, Henderson, Adam, Markovic, Llorente, the list goes on. I can understand that since Mancs have to cut back on their scouting system. Refs are much more valuable than scouts these days.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure you know what goes on behind closed doors as to whose interest came first as well as knowing for sure that certain clubs just follow other clubs as to who to buy(!)

Sounds so petty and utter verbal diarrhea this 'they just copy our scouting, because they had to spend on refs so much'.
Yep, Mr Chai knows exactly what goes on behind closed doors at each club as to whose interests in players came first and whether certain clubs just simply copy other clubs (!)
