Line-up vs. Arsenal: LFC new boy starts! Sterling retains his place...

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has named Nuri Sahin in his starting XI for today's must-win game against Arsenal at Anfield.

It will be great to see Sahin in action, but what's going on with Assaidi? He's not even in the squad. Again. Having said that, we get Sterling instead, so that's great too.

Jose Enrique and Daniel Agger also return to the starting line up, which should reintroduce much needed balance and stability to the defence.

FULL LINE UP

Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Sahin, Allen, Gerrard, Sterling, Suarez, Borini

SUBS: Jones, Carra, Downing, Henderson, Shelvey, Coates, Kelly

PROBABLE FORMATION

Reina

Johnson ---- Skrtel ------ Agger ----- Enrique

Gerrard --------- Allen -------- Sahin

Suarez ---------- Borini ------- Sterling

Borini down the middle instead of Suarez brings the most balance to the attack IMO.

  1. good team if gerrard doesnt give the ball away cheap i feel we can win this

  2. The most fluid and offensive lineup for the last 4 seasons. No deadwood in the middle and on the wings. Thank you BR for making the starting 11s look genuinely like a team of football players.

  3. COME ONE YOU REDS!

With Tottenham slipping yesterday, it's a crucial game for us to make sure Arsenal slip too! YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  4. It seems like blasphemy to say it but Gerrard could be the weak link in the midfield.

    ReplyDelete
  5. what about the subs i'm dieing to see assaidi

    ReplyDelete
  6. C'mon Liverpool Lets Have a WIn

    ReplyDelete
  7. I hope Assaidi gets a go. Cant wait to see Sahin. If we lose or draw, it's still not doom and gloom. Remember, it's a marathon.

  8. Gerrard gave a wrong pass against WBA and it led to a goal. First goal conceded against City, the same Gerrard made a wrong pass that led to it. I hope we play like we did against City today without Skartel's blind back pass, Reina's lack of concentration and a wrong pass from Gerrard. Arsenal are yet to score and it will be shame if they outscore us at Anfield today

  9. Let show other teams that LFC is back in the game. A win would greatly improve fans, manager, and players mood.

    ReplyDelete
  10. It is blasphemy- gerrard is still class- what a line up

    ReplyDelete
  11. But they're due for at least a goal- they'll be desperate.

    ReplyDelete
  12. we can do this, at the moment they don't look a better team than us, come on reds !

    ReplyDelete
  13. Correct, He's still got it, and for what he's done for the club, he deserves a Prem title and a few mistakes along the way I'm willing to ignore.....

    ReplyDelete
  14. The line-up suggested above is the best we could hope for at this point in time - here's hoping we're not going to persist with the Borini=defensive winger Kuyt experiment, and he turns out to be an effective centre-forward.

Hopefully Pacheco also can get on the bench at least.
    Subs: Gulacsi-Coates-Kelly-Downing-Shelvey-Assaidi-Pacheco

  15. Not blasphemy. Could it be that a player so used to driving the whole team forward himself is taking some time to adjust to a new system? I wouldn't think he's incapable of playing the way the manager needs him to but it's not quite his natural game, not the way he's played for us over the past few years. Old dog needs some more time to settle into the system.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It is seriously a pain to watch Gerrard play now. The day Brendan Rogers decides a fit Steven Gerrard should not be in the starting eleven will be the start of a new era at Liverpool FC

    ReplyDelete
  17. Totally agreed Nick. Even in the middle of the season, there aren't any 'must win' games in the league.

Obviously there will be a lot of flak if we lose, with the transfer window failures so fresh in the memory, but there's plenty of time for us to turn things around after (yet another) international break.

    ReplyDelete
  18. All knives will be out if we lose this game. The mood is so low now. 3 players out with no player in. Can't even win the race for Dempsey when he's there for our taking for > 2 months. Carroll had such a brilliant debut. We lost Steve Clarke when he could have provided much value to the backroom staff, or even as a manager in his own right as he is proving right now.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Agree with that, Hashim. 99% of fans will predictably disagree though.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Just realised that I missed Henderson out from that selection - but although I've always said he looks a good player, he's in direct competition with Shelvey for a position and Shelvey has outperformed him so far, so I'd rather have an option that offers something different (i.e. Pacheco & Assaidi), than somebody that offers more of the same as others already on the pitch or on the bench, just at a lower level...

    ReplyDelete
  21. assaidi not even on the bench??

    ReplyDelete
  22. lmao if everybody else does their jobs as expected, Gerrard's 'mistakes' don't have any impact. Passes are continually given away in midfield.

Players slipping, or miscontrolling the box in our area on the other hand will usually lead to us being punished though.

It's funny how everybody is sooo desperate to critique Gerrard atm!

    ReplyDelete
  23. We will win this match- arsenal wont know what hit them with the slick passing and sterling running riot. C'mon reds

    ReplyDelete
  24. I disagree, 99% really?
True Liverpool fan's see things for what they really are!
If Gerrard is playing poorly which i think he has been doing for the last few years then he will find it hard to hide on a pitch with all to see!
Gerrard can become a bit like a baby who has dropped his dummy out of the pram at times, Has been since a school boy, but his fantastic displays over the years mean that nobody really cared that much as he was producing on the pitch!
What happens from now on in to the end of his illustrious career remains to be seen.

Whilst your site may attract a minority of idiots who still believe KD was a fantastic manager and that Benitez is still the answer and that FSG are no better than H&G i say to you Jamie not too tar us all with the same brush! especially when making an assessment of peoples opinion on this site only!
When saying 99% i hazard a guess that you mean people who have entered an opinion on Liverpool-Kop???
How about the outside world and especially the streets of Liverpool!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Arsenal's start last year was disastrous but still made 3rd spot

    ReplyDelete
  26. adding to that, if the media hammer liverpool, so what. It's their job to sell newspapers after all...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Maybe Gerrard is a curse to our title prospects. I get this superstitious feeling that Liverpool will finally win only after Gerrard and Carragher leave.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sorry Hashim got to disagree, stevie g has a couple of bad passes in the first two games and he's finished in your opinion. Let the boy adapt to the system and hen watch him go.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i just call it as i see it Gerrard plays hollywood balls when he needs to keep it simple

    ReplyDelete
  30. Suarez should have attacked the box, instead of waiting to moan and flap his arms at Borini

    ReplyDelete
  31. Gerrard gives the ball away again and Arsenal score. Too many mistakes, and he's giving the ball away often again today.

    ReplyDelete
  32. wow arsenal jus give a lesson in tiki taka

    ReplyDelete
  33. once again gerrard giving the ball away cheap loses a goal...hate to say i told you so

    ReplyDelete
  34. Had a feeling that either a ball given away by Suarez or Gerrard would lead to a goal. Gerrard & Suarez mess up and Arsenal counter successfully. We looked more comfortable and their defence looks so dodgy but what a costly cock up in the last third that led to their goal at the other end. So annoying.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Gerrard is shit. Rather play shevley :-)

    ReplyDelete
  36. We have left ourselves exposed with some poor passes. I'm more concerned with where our goals are going to come from. Arsenal have conceded possession on a few occasions in dangerous places but we don't appear to have anyone who knows where the net is. I am not sure what BR has seen in Borini - he will not get many goals this season the way we are currently playing.

    ReplyDelete
  37. im not sure what borini brings to the table...just a younger version of kuyt....he seems real easy to mark out of the game

    ReplyDelete
  38. He's being played out of position; he should be in the centre, not out right. It pi$$es me off so much that successive managers keep playing square pegs in round holes. Play Suarez on the right for feck's sake.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Now Borini goes off, probably demotivated because he's not playing where he should be.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Gerrards one touch game is shocking

    ReplyDelete
  41. Get the fuck up Suarez

    ReplyDelete
  42. its not looking good and mr webb is being his consistant self lol

    ReplyDelete
  43. Suarez has switched to 'HERO MODE'. He has no plans of passing to a teammate today.

    ReplyDelete
  44. i know it sounds pessamistic but i just cant see how we are going to get back into this game...he has to swap gerrard for shelvey and sahin for henderson

    ReplyDelete
  45. and falling like a wally at every bloody opportunity

    ReplyDelete
  46. PEPE REINE. MY WORD

    ReplyDelete
  47. Reina, what a bloody joke

    ReplyDelete
  48. Only positive note is Sterling. We look powder puff up front!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Indeed. It's enters the realms of farce now. We have major problems. So much money wasted on crap under KD and Comolli; it's set us back years.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Reina must be relegated to bench!

    ReplyDelete
  51. It's ok we still have Coates, Carra and KElly on the bench....game changers!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. When Suarez gets desperate he gets dirty. Not acceptable.

    ReplyDelete
  53. and bredan rodgers has spentnearly 30 million and made us worse than last season

    ReplyDelete
  54. shipped in 7 gls in 3 epl games. Big big trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The team look so low on confidence, they seem to have no belief

    ReplyDelete
  56. more than years jamie....the days of the reds being a force in football may be over ...look at forest and leeds ..its not a right of ours ...that sounds really pessimistic perhaps we have to hit bottom to rise ....i really think we have to get rid of the old guard completely and start again

    ReplyDelete
  57. So-called undroppables Suarez, Gerrard and Reina have been like this for ages.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Our biggest problem is having good players who have turned stale at LFC. Reina and Gerrard look like they need a new challenge somewhere else. They just look far too comfortable and would benefit playing in a team where they were NOT GUARANTEED 1st team football.

    ReplyDelete
  59. agree no one is comitting to getting into the box

    ReplyDelete
  60. Never ever understood why managers go to games with three defenders on th bench. What's the use exactly ?

    ReplyDelete
  61. crazy why have carra on the bench and not Adam or assaidi ...the system we play relies on you not giving goals away and playing mistake free not easy with a set of players who cant pass or control a ball ....problem is now is everygame is a cup final heaps of pressure on rogers

    ReplyDelete
  62. stirling is my mom again ...and we were thinking of loaning him out .....makes you think what other clangers where dropping in the acadamy

    ReplyDelete
  63. Spot on. Gerrard and Reina haven't had a good season since we came second under Rafa. Suarez should be out wide.

Management...Wake up!! The demise of Rafa, Hodsgon and Kenny was essentially due to the blind faith shown in our old guard.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Adam signed for stoke but yeah where is Assaidi, Pacheco, Suso Morgan, Coady, Ngoo............

    ReplyDelete
  65. tiki taka ...................why r we liverpool fans so easily SOLD, not sure when we will learn that firing Rafa without a proper replacement was worst decision in the clubs history. Please bring Rafa back!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Cattermole would have got assassinated once more, if he had made a tackle like Stevie G just did. What a idiotic and needless tackle from Stevie.

    ReplyDelete
  67. How many fecking chances does Suarez need to score?!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Its called frustration, and can you blame him?? the players are looking like they did in the early days of Hodgson

    ReplyDelete
  69. Frustrated he maybe but still a stupid and needless challenge. No excuses for that tackle, in my view.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Can someone get on the phone and get Rafa back

    ReplyDelete
  71. Suarez? not a natural goalscorer. The premier league WILL find you out.

Jonjo Shelvey YOU have proved me wrong kid. ALongside Allen he's the most accomplished midfielder and tactically astute player we have. He knows when to go, when to hold and when to shoot and pass. Gerrard on the other hand......

    ReplyDelete
  72. the only difference between Rogers and Roy is that Rogers plays better soccer but same end product and to say we have not yet hit the slump every team in the prem

    ReplyDelete
  73. I agree but it happens mate

    ReplyDelete
  74. well at least its the international break now give them time to regroup one of the least vocal days at anfield ever no youll never walk alone at the end of the game a few boos better enjoy the europa league this season because on the displays so far this season cannot see us getting in that next season

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm still backing BR though.......

He needs to asses who his soldiers are though............

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hope we don't run Sterling into the ground, like we probably did with Owen, because the young lad is surrounded by lifeless team mates.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Thats why we need Carroll. Would of gave us options in the box. Gerrard should play further forward. No options from the bench. Disgusting to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Friend Romans and Liverpool fan.I come not to bury Liverpool but to praise them. The evil that BR has done will live after us.

I bet you every Liverpool player would of wished Carol was in this side with all those crosses being put in the box.

    Anfield a fortress BR?

    Second choice after Martinez.

    Whos eyes are now open?

Yes we can stick with him. His one dimensional approach to football. Carry his mistakes and grow but how far and at what expense.

We are going backwards. Spend 30 mil more and have a weaker squad

Jaimie your running out of excuses to justify your 100 percent support.

yes the law of percentages say we will win some games, however everyone can see we are heading backwards. Wish we had rednapp his experience would of blended Suarez with Carol.

    ReplyDelete
  79. i meant adam morgan ......give me credit for some brains

    ReplyDelete
  80. He looked a little clueless to me today stood on the sidelines, i will happily give him a chance though as we have to, just got a feeling he isnt the man to take us to were we belong.

    ReplyDelete
  81. On the displays do far we will be lucky to be playing premier league football next season

    ReplyDelete
  82. Carroll is crap, get over it.

    ReplyDelete
  83. bad times ahead especially as we wont drop under performing players....stirling and shelvey more than likely wont start the next game...im getting real sick of the favouritsm at anfield why did shelvey not start did he play shit against city im sick of this click at anfield why has reina not been dropped

    ReplyDelete
  84. So let's see, Torres goes for 50m we replace him with Carroll and play him a few games then loan him out and sign..... Oh that's right, we didn't bring in anyone. It's shocking management - you don't release players until you have a deal done to replace them..who are the idiots managing these deals? I am SO ANGRY.

Bellamy, Kuyt, Carroll go ...what comes in to give us goals??????

    ReplyDelete
  85. Rodgers needs to grow a set and drop gerrard ...reina ...borini ( out of his depth )

    ReplyDelete
  86. well it seems my friend so are many others because the last time I looked he wasn`t playimg in a red shirt so you can add a few others to that list. wink wink

    ReplyDelete
  87. Well it doesn't take a clairvoyant to predict that we aren't going to win the title in the next few years does it?

    ReplyDelete
  88. our manager has to justy his spending on sahin

    ReplyDelete
  89. Give over! Most fans wish Carroll was playing? Get real. Carroll is RUBBISH. He's had 18 months to prove himself and he's just not good enough. Just because LFC are doing badly doesn't suddenly mean Carroll is missed. We were rubbish WITH Carroll.

After the negative impact of Dalglish, it is going to take time to recover, and Rodgers needs to bring in lots more players. Things don't just change after 3 games of a season.

This is ridiculous knee-jerkism; exactly the same as when Hodgson was in charge.

    ReplyDelete
  90. What spending? It's a loan deal!

    ReplyDelete
  91. if im honest we were never going to challenge for top 4 or win anything this year no matter who we bring in ...ill be happy if we finish mid table and off load the dead wood ....and get carra and gerrard out of the team ...it sounds harsh but i truly believe there influence is holding rogers and the team back

    ReplyDelete
  92. It is amazing how we carry on breeding this mediocre air around the club, despite new owners and new manager. As now we are once again with a weak squad, which allows members of the first XI to be undroppable, despite their mediocre performances. We will probably win and destroy Manure as we usually turn up for some big games, when we have this mediocre air at the club and then recede into mediocre form once again.

What a joke, no striker on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Borini is the worst player ive seen in a liverpool shirt ever! His worse then VORONIN! Makes spearing look a world beater

    ReplyDelete
  94. He isn't crap. He would of gave us a different option from the bench UNLIKE today!

    ReplyDelete
  95. thought he did alright for debut the team as a whole were shocking give a few exemptions think we have to give br to end of season and see if performances improve by god theve got to

    ReplyDelete
  96. First of all, talk about jumping the gun. Christ almighty. It has been pretty dire so far but we haven't even had 5 hours of league football.

Also, nice job on butchering that Julius Caesar quote. Speaking of Rome, here's a more relevant quote: Rome wasn't built in a day.

...and finally I offer the immortal, oft-quoted Scouse wisdom- 'calm down'.

    ReplyDelete
  97. funny how u actually wanted liver tp sign carroll now he is Rubish, last season u wanted Demb ba. but what u fail to see jamie is that even though a player is good doesn't mean he is good for liver, u complained bout rafa being too defensive but look how bad things have gotten over the last years, rafa may not have had such a good last seson but it far better then what we have seen ever since he left and ask if rafa had stayed where would we be now???

    ReplyDelete
  98. JK the thing is Liverpool fans are generally a lot more clued up then most, they chanted for Hodgson to go as they knew he was terrible, did you back his appointment? was you really happy to have him manager of our club? the fact is we have a manager still really learning his trade, and when a manager doesnt have the experience of winning its not easy as the players know he hasnt achieved anything and though they would never say it publicly they will doubt his methods, Rodgers seems to be living off the swansea way of playing which he never introduced but if you listened to him you would think he had, i will give him time as i think all fans should but that doesnt mean the fans cant voice concerns, at the end of the day we all want the same thing, fo LFC to be the team they should be.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Hodgson is, was and will always be shite. It really is that simple. He is fine for some clubs but he could never, and should never, have been Liverpool's manager.

People need to give Rodgers time. He's been screwed by the board and will have a tough time until January and needs our support.

That said, he isn't blameless thus far. People need to cut him more than his fair share of slack though because it is in the club's interest.

    ReplyDelete
  100. jury is out on borini but he does appear to lack the x factor ...on a positive note sterling and shelvey were outstanding ....gerrard and reina and borini woeful

    ReplyDelete
  101. If Gerrard or anyone else loses a ball in the attack at the edge of the box, it is not their fault if the other team scores on the counterattack. Where is the team's shape? Who's the holding midfielder? Funny how no one points this out.

I think Allen's contribution is being widely overemphasized. He is head and shoulders above Spearing and Henderson, but is that much of a standard?

Yes, we need a striker, but that's not the biggest problem. We do not have a player like Cazorla in midfield, who set up a goal and scored another. Our new midfielders (Allen and Sahin) need a GPS whenever they get three-quarters down the field. Gerrard is not playing well and we can't count on him for a full season.

Carroll was a good option at certain points of the game, nothing more than that.

Reina has been hurting the team for a while.

Suarez played his worst game as a Red, but he did cause a penalty that Webb chose to ignore. Mertesecker then fouled him in what should have been a second yellow and Webb chose to ignore it. it's tough to have an impact in the game when refs are out to get you.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Reina hasn't been dropped because we have no credible back-up.

I've backed Reina many times but he really needs to up his game now. That said, the club need to give him what he needs to thrive and the lack of any credible back-up and the failure to replace Xavi Valero (for 3 years) can't have helped him.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Nice job on writing off a player who isn't match fit, is playing in a new team (an underperforming one), in a new league, in a new country after 60 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  104. He needs to grow a pair of brain cells and move Borini inside and Suarez wide. Impressive to see that he has made a fair few selection errors considering how few players he has to choose from.

I think he is smart enough to realise this. Keep the faith.

    ReplyDelete
  105. jamie you miss the point.7 mil on him could of been used to buy another striker. stop changing the record .

    ReplyDelete
  106. lol carol was the fall guy then jamie, i just wonder who will be our next one.

    ReplyDelete
  107. jamie one song springs to mind

    GOING UNDERGROUND - Paul Weller
Some people might say my life is in a rut,
But I'm quite happy with what I got
People might say that I should strive for more,
But I'm so happy I can't see the point.
    Somethings happening here today
A show of strength with your boy's brigade and,
I'm so happy and you're so kind
You want more money - of course I don't mind
To buy nuclear textbooks for atomic crimes
And the public gets what the public wants
But I want nothing this society's got -
    I'm going underground, (going underground)
Well the brass bands play and feet start to pound
    Going underground, (going underground)
Well let the boys all sing and the boys all shout for tomorrow
Some people might get some pleasure out of hate
Me, I've enough already on my plate
People might need some tension to relax
Mem, I'm too busy dodging between the flak
What you see is what you get
You've made your bed, you better lie in it
You choose your leaders and place your trust
As their lies wash you down and their promises rust
You'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns
And the public wants what the public gets
But I don't get what this society wants
    I'm going underground, (going underground)
Well the brass bands play and feet start to pound
    Going underground, (going underground)
Well let the boys all sing and the boys all shout for tomorrow
We talk and talk until my head explodes
I turn on the news and my body froze
The braying sheep on my TV screen
Make this boy shout, make this boy scream!
    Going underground, I'm going underground!

    ReplyDelete
  108. guys we are going underground lol

    ReplyDelete
  109. jason im not saying he is a bad player mate but surely we have many other options in midfield but very few up fron. i would of sacrificed him for a striker with the limited funds we`ve had.

    ReplyDelete
  110. lets be honest shelvy and henderson can do that job.

    ReplyDelete
  111. sahin my friend i guess . wink wink

    ReplyDelete
  112. time to recover? plus 30 mil worth of players. jamie i would agree with you 100 percent if BR has not spent a dime but he has spent 30 mil.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Got no sympathy at all for Suarez. He simply didn't help himself when he came to the league and still doesn't. You reap what you sow. He himself has created the doubt in the referees' minds as to whenever he gets fouled and makes a big show of it with his theatrics, rolling around and squealing like Alvin the chipmunk (verbally and visually) being strangled, thanks to his initial behavior (that still occurs). We laughed at Ronaldo at Manure for this, yet we make excuses and defend Suarez for the same stuff, if not worse.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Bring CARROLL back!yep... We can we have the option to. So we shud do it.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Doni's stock may have decreased somewhat since being dropped by Roma to understudy position but before that, he had a solid reputation. He has several caps for Brazil. He is a credible back up keeper and more credible than most no. 2 keepers.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I would not expect a different answer for a ManU troll.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Solution.....Rafael Benitez

said it when he was sacked

    said it when Hodgson appointed

    said it when kenny appointed

    said it when Rodgers appointed

    nothing has changed my mind....

  120. Have a feeling Benitez will be back, once Rodgers has been sacked for getting us relegated.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Calm down. We won't be relegated, we have played city and arsenal. Got 1 point... Spurs have drawed two against lower teams. We will be fine. We are playing good just making silly passes, they need to use to touches, see the options then pass. Assidi will be back soon. He will give us much needed pace an good with both feet. Play him down the middle with Suarez moving to RS.

  122. Ive been falling out of love with liverpool and football for some time and these games are the icing on the cake ...some of the reds treatment of players has left me astounded i don't think carroll suits our style but his treatment by the club has been a disgrace the same can be said of its treatment of other players ...yet some players can do what they want ...i hope carroll scores the winner against us playing for west ham and aims two fingers at the directors box and rodgers

    ReplyDelete
  123. our next two games are Sunderland away and utd...we could very-well be there or thereabouts in the relegation zone come Christmas....

    ReplyDelete
  124. when you play a 3 man midfield all 3 have to work there nuts off GERRARD AND SAHIN where non extitant...we will get bullied playing away from home when the weather is bad

    ReplyDelete
  125. if hes not match fit why is he playing when we have shelvey and henderson ....once again the anfield click comes in

    ReplyDelete
  126. Nah. Least it's out of the way. Tbh we are playing well. Sunderland will be a good game for us. Arsenal got two goals from mistakes. These two week break we can sort it out. Sunderland? We can give them a game. Utd? Always open if Southampton can score two against them then so can we... It takes time to settle a team with a new manager. We have one point from three games... Its goner be open. Keep faith.

  130. One possible way to get match fit is to play matches, non?

    ReplyDelete
  131. Nah, we'll turn up against Manure, beat them and put in a world class performance....then back to mediocre performances again.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Is Carroll allowed to play against us, for West Ham? Don't think it is allowed in the PL anyway, maybe in the cups?

    ReplyDelete
  141. does anyone think Carroll will want to play for Rodgers after the way he has been treated ..Ive said many times on other sites the treatment of Carroll weather you like him or not has been disgraceful

  150. the more i think about it the more i would welcome signing owen for one season . paying him 5k a week and keeping him on the bench and not playing him for a single minute he he he can watch morgan grow , 60k well spent if u ask me

    ReplyDelete
  151. maybe the first time i agree with you

    ReplyDelete
  152. very good realistic and constructive post.

    ReplyDelete
  153. to be or not to be wink wink lol

    ReplyDelete
  154. The problem is we only have 3 first team coaches, i'm not surprised the players aren't improving, they should be working hard on their weaknesses, I'm afraid Benitez had a plan to improve every player especially tailored to them, not everybody responded as well as he wished for example Babel, but stevie torres Reina agger kuyt and other ones played better and were able to reach a high level. it seems that now all the players play the same week in week out, only the young ones are showing promise, it seems that for example suarez actually went backwards and it might not be all confidence based, because if we play a great game and that happened the team cannot take the momentum into the next game but it didn't happen when KD was the manager, and now we actually struggle put a composed performance in front of the goal in any game.

  155. This above all: to thine own self be true

  156. That it should come to this!........hamlet

    ReplyDelete
  157. There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so......

    ReplyDelete
  158. of coarse its the player who loses the balls fault ...its not the subs...if i foul a player and they score off the free kick its my fault...where you lose the ball is irrelavant...it smacks of carelessness ...oh just because im in the opponents half ill not try and pass to my teammate...thats why we cant score ....if shelvey or henderson had done it there would be uproar and hansen and co would be shouting blue murder but because its gerrard nothing is said...thats why the club is going down the pan theres a set of rules for one player and a set for another ...do you think rodgers would treat carra like he has carroll ...its a disgrace and you reap what you so

    ReplyDelete
  159. Do you think I am easier to be played on than a pipe

    ReplyDelete
  160. the problem is we have spent 110 million on crap ...another 10 for borini ... just watched the game again and what does he do ...no pace...no tricks....no presence....not good in the air ....sahin looks like a luxury player we cant afford ....him and gerrad just stroll around without a care in the world ....watch the game again and just focus on the them 3 they are garbage

    ReplyDelete
  161. The truth is LFC have been in decline since Souness's era, yes even under Rafa's. By the time Rafa left, our first XI was complete tripe, & I did have a degree of sympathy for Hodgson! Our scouting system leaves alot to be desired with regards to looking at football from a global perspective. IMO Rafa deserves some credit as he implented a academy in which the WORLD talent came together. Terrible business accument-paying over the odds & under valuing players, to think Kuyt an established international went for 1mill
We never really seem to make the most of our true talents, with the exception of Arsenal all the other top teams hang on to their top players, if only Alonso was still playing for us!
As or Carroll he is another player in a very long line of mediocrity affiliated with LFC. He is too one dimensional to ever be considered great, or to ever grace LFC. For his size & build he has to be an all rounder like Ibrahimovic or Drogba, Crouch offered way more than Carroll ever did! Carroll is young but not a baby, if ball control, footballing brain hasn't developed in the early 20s it is unlikely it ever will!

  162. So much money wasted on crap under FSG.
So much money witheld under FSG.
So many Awful decisions under FSG.
Who cares, they will blame someone else.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Wouldn't be too sure now they have van persie ....somebody who can put the ball in the back of the net unlike us...we have suarez who spends more time on the floor than on his feet

    ReplyDelete
  164. I don't know how we came to a state where our best players are 17 and 21.
Gerrard was terrible and Suarez as wasteful as ever.
I'm not impressed with Borini either as for now, but i'm willing to give him a few more games(not that we have a choice now with no alternatives but Morgan).
Sahin did fairly well IMO, and I thought the team played generally well, which gives me a lot of reason to be optimistic.

I am getting worried about our defence...

The best news from today's game have to be the performance of Allen, Sterling, and Shelvey.

Now a thought I was having - if SG is finding it hard playing midfield in this system, what about returning him to a position he won the champions league in at the right side of the pitch(and yes, I know he's not a striker, but I believe he's more than capable of playing as a right winger)?
No question he's better than Downing at the moment, and if we keep playing Suarez up front he might be a better option to alter things than playing Borini there, as I don't think he plays well there(Or at least haven't done so so far).

  165. ur learnin !!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  166. asked the same ? a few times no answers ??????

    ReplyDelete
  167. Wheres all the clever clogs who attacked me en masse? For what? Having the audacity to question the americans willingness to spend their money. And, was suggesting our squad was light in areas. No where to be seen!!!! Thats where. I cant believe weve ended up with more cowboys in charge. Liverpool are so pathetic theae days we cant get our ownership right. Wheres that know it all who was convinced wed improve on last years position? Id love to know ur opinion on whats happened. People may not like my opinion. But, and dont take this as being big headed. I am usually right.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Gerrard loses the ball far too often these days, maybe he always did

    Suarez's touch was awful today

    Reina had another shocker

Only positives are Allen, Sterling, Shelvey, and Sahin looked ok

    Enrique is not fit yet

BR has a tough job ahead of him, let's pray for a miraculous signing of Drogs and Anelka for a year. We can pay them 500k that we are saving between them

    ReplyDelete
  169. We aren't that loaded, that we are able to spend 'so much' on crap AND 'so much' money is withheld.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Doni deemed to be too competitive for Reina's liking me thinks(!)

    ReplyDelete
  171. OMG BR is considering signing owen or drogba ffs i honestly give up. he couldnt afford drogba who will command over 100k a week. its a sad day for us. he will go for owen who is injury prone. going to sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I doubt there is truth in those rumours. Its probaby our owners spreading them. To give themaelves breathing space from
the wrath of the fans. Ive become so cynical about our owners. Im convinced they spread rumours to appease the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  173. what its a feckin mans game wasnt even a foul.

    ReplyDelete
  174. just been on e bay and bought a pair of pepe reina goalkeeping gloves got them for afiver hardly used

    ReplyDelete
  175. Ah that old chestnut. Like our European Cups, tackles like that belong in a history museum.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Don't worry Brendan I still have patience and understand there is more than 3 games in a season. So much negativity Anfield had such a dire atmosphere today

    ReplyDelete
  177. never played the game then aye

    ReplyDelete
  178. Nope, I didn't play the game in the 70s/80s.

    ReplyDelete
  179. reina has got to be dropped, now, everything seems to be going in,enough suarez, should play just behind the front man, better at creating than finishing,he`s trying to do to much, and ends up losing it,if br dosent start being ruthless,he will go the same way as kk ,who`s failure was not adressing weakness,if reina ise`nt dropped in the next three games,br dosent deserve to manage this club, enough already.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Drop Reina for who???..maybe Henderson in goal...at least try and make some use out of the waste of money somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Which he duly did.....

    ReplyDelete
  182. You know what he means, though. United couldn't win it until Bryan Robson decided to call it a day, then "hey, presto!".

    ReplyDelete
  183. Except that we are now more "media friendly"........

    :(

    ReplyDelete
  184. Shelvey should have started instead of Sahin. The bloke was clearly unfit. At one stage he GAVE UP chasing Diaby, which is unacceptable.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Instead of offloading Carroll, could we not have just bought Nolan.......??

    ReplyDelete
  186. It's in the club's interests purely because we can't afford to keep getting rid of managers and start a selection of 3- or 5-year 'plans'.

He seems a bit of an egotist to me.

    ReplyDelete
  187. True. But ease him in. Don't play him purely to say "1-0 to me" to Wenger, because it may (and did) blow up in your face.

    ReplyDelete
  188. And how would Drogba fit his "style" of play, when Carroll couldn't?

    ReplyDelete
  189. yes i noticed that. play and jamie calls it long ball system only when carol plays lol

    ReplyDelete
  190. Look, we fcuked up, simple as that, we should have invested in this team......

We didn't, and so its going to be a hold onto your hat season, we might win a few but we are bound to lose a few....so far we hav'nt got any momentum together, and until that happens we're fcuked....

FSG should have invested in -

    A) Another keeper....we all now know that Reina is a liability, but we knew this a long time ago,,,or at least we should have...

    B) Another striker - Its just not acceptable to force out of the Club an up and coming target man who at least gave us a threat up front....and NOT replace him....

Surely that was blatantly obvious, we can moan about certain players not connecting an all that but what good is it, other teams will NOT fear us....we don't have any options to change a game.....

We will have to work damn hard to establish ourselves but even that could so easily get blown over by the loss of a key player esp its a striker.....

Im sorry, but its becoming increasingly hard to take the amount of bullshit coming out of the Club....propaganda etc and marketing but its bloody pointless IF the investment in the squad is not there....

Brendan Rodgers and FSG have pissed off so much of the fanbase already it is becoming very hard to have any faith in anything they say....

Personally i am fairly pissed of with those people at the Club that have chosen to ignore our "issue's..." and in doing so address our weaknesses....

Fcuk em, bunch of self serving corporate men, all trying to keep us sweet whilst we are being made to look a laughing stock....

    ReplyDelete
  191. He IS currently the weakest link in the team. 1 touch football is not Gerrard's style. He needs more time to weigh his passes. As it currently stands, having him orchestrate the other 3 attackers lacks the necessary cohesion to make them a combined threat and leads to more dangerously misplaced passes. Without Bellamy or Torres, his through balls won't find anyone's feet.

When fit, our current best midfield combination is probably a Lucas/Allen pairing with Shelvey ahead. Sahin would probably get better with time and Henderson is a dependable workhorse but I think adding Suso or Adorjan as possible trequartistas could work too. Besides a lack of options, our biggest problem right now is our attackers aren't properly orchestrated and Gerrard is not the player to do it. Sigurdsson was a huge miss.

All things said, with the addition of Sterling and Allen to our regular starting lineup, Suarez is no longer our only world class player. Team-wise, we're just an Iniesta type away from being a Barca-lite - I wonder if that's why the owners seem to think we don't need strikers either.

Defensively, Coady should be given a runout at some point. Not to say that Lucas isn't adequate when fit, but the ability to play central defense and central midfield will allow him to slot between our back 2 more comfortably when they push up or drift wide which has been causing us problems in all our league games so far. Mertesacker and Vermaelen looked steadier than Skrtel and Agger which sounds absurd but was evidential nonetheless.
