Injury update: Bad news! LFC star out for 9 months. Plus latest on Lucas & Borini

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has provided an injury update on Daniel Agger, Fabio Borini, Martin Kelly and Lucas Leiva.

In his press conference a few minutes ago, Rodgers confirmed everyone's worst fears about Kelly's ACL injury:

"Martin Kelly has his operation this evening, but he'll be out for 6-9 months. .

"He's been fantastic, and if he does play again this season it will be towards the end".

Liverpool's next league game is against Norwich this Saturday, and it looks like Agger and Borini may be in with a chance of making the squad:

"We're still waiting on Agger and Borini; they're responding well but they haven't trained this week but we'll see how they go over the next 24 hours.

"Daniel's got a good chance [to make this weekend's game], and Fabio is 50/50".

On the subject of Lucas Leiva, who is recuperating from his latest injury, Rodgers added:

"Lucas is doing great. He's got good movement and he's started to run. Apart from that, everything is good".

  1. Hmmm I thought so. Glad Agger is not out for long. Borini needs to play centrally more often to make an impact. But I am looking forward to Saturday's match.

  2. jaimie the shocking lack in depth of the squad could well come back to haunt us before the end of the season we might be able to cope in defence but if any of the strikers get injured we will be scr2wed

  3. That's Kelly finished, your never quite the same after that injury, he now wont become the player he should have been, sadly.

  4. Kelly out for so long, really sad. Will be interesting to see whether Brendan now prefers Enrique or Wisdom. Or even Downing at left-back, though he should be left back in the dressing room all of the time.

  5. No problem, wisdom at RB and Johnson at LB. Coates to cover and get some valuable experience whilst Agger recovers. IMO Rodgers has got it sweet right now. Low expectations from fans and owners alike means he can play youth giving him a fantastic and viable excuse if we lose, yet huge praise if we win. Personally i think we will see the failure in this summers transfer window as a turning point for LFC.

  6. actually it's not the first time in his career that he has such serious an injury. maybe he can still make it but remains injury prone.

" though he should be left back in the dressing room all of the time" Ouch!! That's hilarious!! However, as long as he is Liverpool player, I am supporting him and hopefully he can improve. He actually had several decent games in the beginning of the season

  9. Gutted, another acl injury. He was doing well as stand in for Johnson. Great work ethic.

  10. I, too, support him as long as he's with us, but I don't see any improvement from last season. So, unfortunately, I have to admit that I've lost hope with him. He could and probably should look at what Assaidi does. Now, that's what you want from a winger.

  11. Kelly is a really good player solid athletic that's why Johnson is not playing RB, BR does not like Enrique FACT expect GJ to stay at left back Coates to the middle if Agger is not fit Wisdom in at right back

  12. have you ever watched them play ? Kelly is a Right back Enrique is a left back will never playat righ back neither will downing I do wonder sometimes

  13. Does Flanno not figure among the options?

  14. Surely a winger and leftback are different?

  15. There are not many people who can twist a knee like he did and not do damage! He is young he can still recover.

  16. Erm.... yes.... but by putting a left back in the left back position you can free up the England right back who is currently playing at left back. Do you actually watch LFC? You couldn't make this up!

  17. I'm glad Lucas is improving. But I just don't want them to rush his return. Get him completely healthy, or as healthy as he possibly can be. But I think if he gets injured again this season, it is going to be time to look at moving him at transfer time. He doesn't seem to be fit to play at this level, and as much as I like him on our squad, I'd rather see someone else who can contribute in that position and not waste the money LFC are paying him by being injured all the time. I think that goes double for Agger. He's another one who is always out.

  18. I've kind of lost hope on Downing too. But I'm happy with Wisdom, Sterling and Suso. I think if BR can bring in more talent like them, the future is bright. I'd rather win now while we're bring in the talent, but it's a nice start.

  19. Never thought that I had to explain this for someone like you, but, well, not all people are really fast thinking. Look, Johnson is a right-back and has played as a left-back in quite a few games so far this season. You probably haven't watched us play this season, that's why I tell you. So, now that Kelly, who was used as a right-back, with Johnson as a left-back, as I've explained above, is injured, I wonder whether Brendan continues playing Johnson at left-back using Wisdom, who actually is a centre-back (!), at right-back, or if he plays Johnson in his natural position bringing Enrique back into the team. Downing on the other hand is supposed to be a left-winger, but has been used as a left-back once this season. Rodgers has also told the press that he might use Downing as a left-back again. You probably don't follow the club very closely, otherwise you would have known. Anything else I can explain to you? Always glad to help.

  20. Yes, of course, I know that. Downing's natural position surely is that of a left-winger. Coincidentally Assaidi can play there, too, and has so against WBA. Therefore I think it is fair to compare what each of those two players has been doing in that position. Furthermore Downing was recently used as a left-back, as Brendan probably thought that Downing is quite useless on either wing and given that Enrique is badly out of form and our only back-up left-back is a kid.

  21. Im with you were Downings concerned hes just not good enough he has shown that last season and the beginning of this. Its was good too see so many great performances by the young players against WBA. I hope Brenden Rodgers involves Sahin, Assaidi and Coates, (if Agger his out) In his starting 11 against Norwich on Saturday. My starting 11 would be, (Reina,) (Johnson, Skrtel, Agger/Coates, Enrique,) (Sahin, Allen, Gerrard) (Sterling, Suarez, Assaidi) (Subs) Jones, Wisdom, Carragher, Hederson, Suso, Borini. C.O.Y.M.R.
