'LFC are interested!' - Fassi confirms Mexico winger is wanted at Anfield...

In June, Pachuca President Andres Fassi revealed that Liverpool had 'shown interest' in signing Mexico International Hector Herrera. Now, with only two weeks of the transfer window remaining, it appears that Liverpool may still be tracking the 23-year winger.

In an interview with ESPN last night, Fassi, confirmed that Pachuca had received offers for Herrera, and hinted that one of those offers had come from Liverpool. He explained:

"We want Herrera to stay with Pachuca, but we know he will probably move to England. Manchester United and Liverpool in the Premier League are interested, and they've been here, and he could leave the club at any time".

Pachuca Chairman Jesus Martinez Patino made similar comments last month about Liverpool and United's interest, and in another recent interview, Fassi revealed that Liverpool's scouts had been to watch the player:

"Liverpool's people came to Mexico on a general scouting trip, there's a declared interest in Herrera. He can surely be one of the Premier League's best players in two or three seasons. He's that good."

Herrera then confirmed that he's met with Liverpool Scouts:

"I was only introduced to him [the Liverpool scout], he didn't tell me anything specific. I found out about the [Liverpool interest], I haven't been told anything concrete yet and I'll have to wait to see what [Fassi] says about it. I think it's a great opportunity, it's one of my dreams to play in Europe."

Despite the signing of Oussama Assaidi, Liverpool still (arguably) need another quality attacking wide player, and Herrera - who fits the bill, and would probably be quite cheap.

Herrera was nominated for the Mexico league's 'Golden Ball' in 2011, an award that recognises the country's best talent. He was also named 'most outstanding player' of the 2012 Toulon Tournament, and played an integral role in Mexico's gold medal victory at the London Olympcis.

  1. Don't know anything about him really, seems like we just scouted the guy and said, "yeah he looks good, we'll keep in contact"

But desperate for someone to replace Downing could be the guy?

  2. why does everyone blame downing if you ask me he a bloody good player and we should keep hold of him. the football being played by br is no difference to wot king kenny did tici tacky is ok for dpain they have a end product but liverpool are not spain and i have suppoerted liverpool since 1969 and if we dont start playing the liverpool way we will go down and mr henry you no different to hicks and gillette you want champions league football then start buying good attacking players your only interest is in the red sox find a buyer who is willing to invest in liverpool and get them back to where they belong with the others up top

  3. Scouts have been scouting all summer. I'm sure they would have looked at a lot of players. Just because Fassi says it  means Jack....
I 'm sure LFC can't sign every player that was scouted.

  4. Downing is fairly terrible old friend. Seasons go by without him scoring. Not good enough for a forward player. Assist wise not much better than his lack of goals. Anyways another winger does not spell and end to downings career. Might just wake him out of his slumber and reignite his career tho I won't risk going blue in the face, I'm not holding my breath.

  5. Yeah, what is it about Liverpool lately?  The problem as I see it is little to do with spending power (we're one of the biggest spenders in Premier League History), but rather how we spend. The Liverpool scout system seems to be a huge problem, either they can't spot good talent or if they do, it's not being acted upon. We need new, hungry, aggressive talent in and around the 4 to 6 million price range and Mexico is a good place to start.

  7. TBH who cares, he won't make make the slightest difference, there is a cancer at this club that is gradually eating it away. Rodgers may get it right but it will take years not months and he'll be sacked way before he gets close to solving it.

  10. LFC is cursed. Good players can't perform in LFC for some reasons. Eg:- Suarez. We are doomed.

  11. The wide forward is one of the players that is supposed to bring about thrust and that end product to the endless passing football.

Downing is 28 years old and cost £20m. Downing does not provide any thrust or cutting edge to our play. Thus, 'everybody' gets frustrated by his lack of production and uses him as a scapegoat for underwhelming team performances

  15.  "Despite the signing of Oussama Assaidi, Liverpool still (arguably) need another quality attacking wide player"

    *Correction

Because of the signing of Ouassama Assaidi, Liverpool still (definitely) need a quality attacking wide player.

To have "another" quality attacking wide player, you'd have to have at least one quality attacking wide player.

  17. rumours again, but from what ive been hearing of him could be interresting to see materialize, gets the job done goes about doing his part and not shy of challenging deffenders and he just wants to play football, like Suarez they still seem to play like it was just a match between friends like when they was kids innocent and fun and exploring and most of all aggresive forward, might be the kind we need, Asseini also has that same thing about his play and thats what we need not someone whos to eager to impress. By now im so looking for Asseini I firmly believe that he has what it takes cus of his approach to the game, YNWA

  19. r.i.p  liverpool football club,,,if we cant beat  west brom we are doomed ,,three nil two nil five nil against the top four teams i can take ,,but opening fixture of new season against a club and team that struggle to stay in the league year in year out,,,and they stuff us,get real rodgers i listened the whole of last season to kennys excuses ,and its more than just bad luck  we are complete shit and that aint gonna change until managers stop building the team around gerrard ,he isnt the player he was ,,carraghers done ,saurez isnt a 30 plus  season striker, and downing adam henderson, carroll lucas johnson borini allen enrique cole kelly shelvey spearing, not one of them would get into the city utd or chelsea teams,

  20. That a good poit. I think the bad start can just motivate the team to go and get good results. The manegar is doing thing the right way. The team played ok until the ref just put a stop in liverpoo game. It can motivate the team to beat the rest of tbe teams in the leage starting with city.

  22. Im sorry but Downing is absolutely Terrible, he needs to go, before the end of the transfer window, just look at his stats from last season? premiere league goals scored- 0 and assists-0 that speaks volumes too most LFC supporters. So tell me whats so bloody apealling about Downing to you? We seem to be struggling to put the ball into the net again and Borini wont be the one too change things in the near future, especially not playing in the wider position, on the left, he needs too be in a more central role imo. its obvious we need a goalscorer? Not just a second rate frontman but someone who knows how too hit the back of the net, before the T,W closes.  Hector Herrera would be a great addition too our one diamentional midfield, why dosen`t Brenden Rodgers give Raheem Sterling a well deserved chance? he couldin`t be any worse than Downing or J, Cole who im affraid should be packed off too. It looks like Sahin is off too Arsenal, and tellow, wasin`t intrested in coming too LFC either? If Rodgers looks at the situation now, and does the right thing by clearring our dead wood out we could bring a decent Striker in, and Herrera and even bring Dempsey in, who actually knows how to put that round thing into the back of the net, we would be looking more like a top 4 team no question about it. Come on Brenden shorely you can see, what most of we the supporters see? And Downing Isin`t the answer, neither are Carragher, Spearing, or Cole . And one last thing imo I think Coates should be given his chance while Agger is suspendid he could be a fantastic player he needs a few games to get up too the speed of things, and he`s more of a goal threat than Agger or Carragher will ever be. So like or dislike my analogy, thats up too you? RedMan4Life

  24. Hey guys an interesting thing, I heard LFC has 184million in
revenues and player wages cost us 114million last year(according to a LFC
blog). If its true then :

1.Considering we sold some of our High earning playersour
wage shud be 108million, and the new deals(Warrior, Chevrolet) will increase
    our revenue to possibly 200m.

2.We have less money this year coz we had a 50million loss
coz of the stadium and Roy sack.
This means next season Rodgers should have more money, I guess just how much:

            Clarke &
    Staff sack                    - 10m

             KK                  sack                 -15m

             Rodgers
    arrival                        - 6m

             Staff wage(Kamie
    can u help) -10m

              Other
    Expense(Stadium?)      - 10m

This should leave Rodgers 30million NET budget.

    3. Considering we qual. for CL budget shud by possibly
    10million.

    4. Expect spending amount close to  KK’s summer. possibly 50m will be
    spent(GROSS).

    5. THIS is why FSG wont sack BR unless we regress

    Conc.:

BR will get net 30m budget only if there is no loss bcoz of
Stadium(Stanley Park), or owners want profit(unlikely coz they said they will
reinvest revenues earned by club), or if BR is sacked and the owners ending
    compensating by 8m.

    So Cheer up LFC fans.

  25. You contradict yourself; you accuse FSG of not buying attacking players, but they bought your beloved Downing for 20M! Quit blaming FSG for wasting money, they've given management more than enough money over the last 2 yrs, and it was wasted. The only crime they've committed is not having billions of pounds in oil reserves.

  26. Agreed re: Coates. Given Skrtl's lackluster display what have we got to lose?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I really liked the look of him in the Olympics. The Mexicans seem a tough bunch too. Can't be worse than Downing (and I'm not a fan of slagging off players).

    ReplyDelete
  28. Might be too risky to throw Coates in against, Manu, Manc, Arsenal, etc etc, would ruin his confidence if he got roasted by RVP, Ruiny, Tevez, etc.

  29. Please not ASSEINI again, find out his name please.

    ReplyDelete
  30. hahahaha no of cus Assaidi, I just remamed him there huh? sry dont know why I had the idea it was Asseini YNWA

  31. "shorely you can see?" For that to happen, Brendan would have to visit the beach first.

    ReplyDelete
  32. It was the clueless Dalglish, and not FSG, who bought the highly elusive Downing. So elusive, one can hardly notice Downing is on the playing field.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hererra can't get work Visa. He is not regular first team member for Mexico. No point wasting time!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I won't write off BR and the tiki taka he wants to implement but we need to work on being solid first before playing experimental, free flowing football which can be suicidal if the team aren't on the same wavelength.

This was Allen's first game with Liverpool. We should have started more or less with the team that defeated Levurkusen.

We can blame the penalties or Phil Dowd but in reality we played right into the hands of Clarke who knows our players and how BR operates.

However you cut it, 0-3 is an embarassing scoreline against West Brom. The exhibition, 5-a-side in the park footie exposed our defence and made Albion look like Real Madrid.

Now Pep Segura is on his way out of the Club, we have severed our ties with the Spanish staff (former Barca)  which is ironic as well as alarming.

The owners have slowly down-sized our Club, trimming the squad and have not attempted to keep a hold of some of the more valuable staff members which is really reflecting the way we are becoming. A step up for the lower league players but unattractive to ambitious, quality players such as Nuri Sahin.

  35. I'm sorry but Downing was ineffective all season last year and put in a terrible performance against the mighty WBA. He should not be playing in the 1st team.

    ReplyDelete
  36. IMO Steward Downing is one of the worst deals ever made by Liverpool. He is ineffective, did not contribute anything on Saturday. He needs to be dropped because this is not an one off performance, we saw this all the time last year. All it takes is for Assaidi to have one good game and he will replace Downing.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Never seen him play so don't know if he is any good or not but Liverpool surely need a new winger and since Adam Johnson is available i think we should go for him and also think Liverpool need to sign a creative midfielder, all top teams have one or two Man City have Silva, Nasri, Man Utd have Kagawa, Scholes, Arsenal have Cazorla, Arteta, Chelsea have Mata, Hazard, Newcastle have Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Spurs have Modric, Vander Vaart, what do Liverpool have, we have no creative midfielder at all.
Don't understand why Borini was bought if he was to be played out in the wings, if that is the case than we also need to buy a goalscorer.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Its only a one match ban for Agger, so it will be Skyrtl, Carra against City, then back to Agger, Skyrtl.

On a side note, Assaidi looks good. Couldn't be worse than Downing...in saying that neither could Sterling.

My biggest problem with Downing, is that in the position he plays, he needs to get on the ball and take on defenders. To do this you need confidence in yourself. He has none, I'm afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why play Shelvey over Allen? Allen was our best player agains West Brom. Shelvey is a lot of things, but he does not provide the fluidity, and composure that Allen brings. Miscontrols the ball, and then has to do some crazy slide tackle to get it back. I like Shelvey, but he is simply not at the same level as Allen.

    ReplyDelete
  40. He's the guy who was kicked in the head by a player on the opposing team during the Olympic Quarterfinals, and ended scoring the winning goal in the competition.

    ReplyDelete
  41. A major mistake by Rodgers in the game. Suarez played pre-season on the left flank and delighted with his runs to the back line and then those defence-panicking flicks into the area for Borini who was hovering. What happens when the results become "important"? He is put in the middle an Borini shoved outside where , due to no fault of his , he was ineffective! Suarez was left to do it all once more a la last season. This is class management? Well not for me..I am NOT calling for Rodgers' head but simply stating what to me is a worrisome thing. We need ( for the millionth time of asking) teeth in the area!

  42. It appears that "every player" doesn't want to come to Anfield - smiles....

    ReplyDelete
  43. why play gerrad over shelvey...one of liverpools main problems is one mighty click...some players play bad nothing is done ...some play well and are dropped.....ill say it again liverpool can only move forward when they get rid of carra and gerrards influence

    ReplyDelete
  44. yeah ok but fsg want champions league football and how will they do that if you cant buy players surely this could get a top striker in to at least attempt a cl position if we play like we did at the weekend i predict 10th and if anyone saw everton  man u tonite everton looked bloody good value for at least 5th place

    ReplyDelete
  45. i think downing will come good this season , but i think charlie adams should go spearing should go joe cole past his sell by date bring in adam johnson get coates in then just maybe 4th might happen look man u bought rvp and he didn t get a look in against everton so its not all gloom and doom but everton will be a tough nut to crack this season especially the way they tore man u apart ynwa

    ReplyDelete
  46. Charlie Adam has shown far more quality in a Liverpool shirt than Downing has.

    ReplyDelete
  47. rihto. we cant buy every player.

    ReplyDelete
  48. As far as I'm concerned we still need another winger even if this Assaidi turns out to be a good player. Man U always have at least 3 quality wide-men, to cover in case of injuries or loss of form (and Assaidi will be out for the ACN too).

Our wide options should be 1) Suarez 2) A new signing 3) Assaidi 4) Sterling.

Downing should have no further role to play for LFC other than to raise funds for a replacement.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It ruins the teams confidence to watch Carragher get roasted by Lukaku and any other big or strong or fast or agile striker that he comes up against.

If Coates can handle the pressure of winning the Copa America, he can handle the pressure of playing the second game in the Premier League.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The writer has it kinda wrong. Herrera plays more as a box to box mid or a even a defensive wide player (kind of like Muntari and Thiago Motta used to do in inter with Mourinho. If liverpool get him it's as someone who to use in rotation with Lucas, especially if he picks up another knock.

    ReplyDelete
  51. He's really similar to Chelsea's Ramires in a playing style.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Well if Liverpool wants a great player at a cheap price diz guys is it. He can play as a CDM or a winger hes an above defender and attacker he runs the whole game !!!! U guys should pounce if u don't man u is after him

    ReplyDelete
  53.  would carra get in Uruguays team no way ...it stinks of favouratism

    ReplyDelete
  54. So much of a hero Carragher ever may be, his performances has been terrible! Even in the final minutes against WBA did he manage to show that his days were over a long time ago.
We should never allow Carragher to play any game that counts, he cant even do as a backup player. Coates should always we chosen before Carragher, what ever reason ever. And if Coates isn’t availabel, then we should play Kelly instead.
Let Carragher assist BR on the training ground or what ever, but please dont let him play!
It is embarrassing to see our old hero making a fool of himself.Furthermore, I consider that Adam should be sold, or given away. The same goes for Spearing, Downing and Cole, in named order.

    ReplyDelete
  55.  I don’t think you should throw in Carroll, Lucas and Johnson in that mix.
All three could make it in to one of the teams!
As for Lucas, he's probably one of the best in his position in the league!

    ReplyDelete
  56. If so, then it says more about Downings performance than Adam; Adam's best merit so far is being a relegation team hero and warming the Rangers bench.
Should never ever been bought for any money to Liverpool, a club way over his ability. not even on a free transfer and £5k/week!
We could hire me for £5k per week if we wanted a worthless player!
