'He's agreed to join LFC' - Rodgers close to signing exciting €10m La Liga star...

Despite stiff competition from Arsenal and Galatasaray, Liverpool appear to be in the pole position to sign Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin.

According to a report last night in renowned Spanish newspaper Marca - whose journalists are very close to Real Madrid (to the point of unashamed bias!) - Liverpool are 'edging out Arsenal' in the battle for Sahin, who has finally agreed to move to Anfield. The report also states:

"Madrid have accepted the offer from Liverpool, and Sahin has agreed to a possible move to the Reds over the last few hours.

"Mourinho is a close friend of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, and the Madrid supremo has been in constant contact with Rodgers over the last few weeks, thrashing out the details of the loan deal"
.

€10m-rated Sahin did not train with the rest of the Real Madrid squad yesterday, and his Agent, Reza Fazeli, was spotted entering the Bernebeau, presumably to continue negotiations. A decision on Sahin is, however, not expected until next week.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray president Unal Aysa made it clear that the Turkish club are also interested in signing Sahin. He said:

"We like Sahin, but we face competition from Fenerbahce, Milan, Inter, Arsenal and Liverpool. We will only know his final destination when the transfer is complete."

In his weekly press conference this morning, Arsene Wenger also confirmed publicly that Sahin 'is one of the players we follow'.

  1. do you make a habit of recycling old stories

  2. Earlier "reports" stated it was a loan deal. But for 10mil, sound business for an exciting young player. Most welcomed change to MF with the signing of Oosuma also in the fray.

  3. Hate to burst the Kop bubble, but Sahin will be an Arsenal player sometime next week.  Try posting the latest info, instead of rehashed stories.

It's worse than that...it's ridiculous out-of-context quote time. Suggest anyone who reads this looks up the original Marca article first and runs it through Google translate and doesn't add the Scouse truth filter that this dude has run it through!

  5. Bit bemused that we have let Gaston Ramirez slip through the net. Doubtless we'll get the "he's not that good anyway" posts in an effort to console ourselves...

    :(

  6. They're not buying him, he's just 'Rated' at 10 mill.

  7. It's a loan deal mate :)

  8. Good news! But did the Galatasaray guy really say "We like 'the' Sahin"?? Is he an object? lol.

  9. He looks a similar player to Stevie G...

  10. if its true very fantastic but i am not feel good on ramirez.

    ReplyDelete
  11. By the sounds of it he chose money. I read in an article that Ramirez said is he being paid £2million a year, why would you mention that if it wasnt about money?

    ReplyDelete
  12. He's not that good anyway! ;0P

    ReplyDelete
  13. He would cost more like 25M.  The only reason he went for 10M last year is because he was in the final year of his Dortmund contract and insisted on going to RM only.  Thus, Dortmund had to sell him on the cheap.

  14. I think if we clinch the Sahin deal , hold onto our back four well be right to go. I just hope we don't get shafted last minute and lose him to gooners .

    ReplyDelete
  15. i think i could work out better with ramirez moving to southampton because it gives us a chance to see the player and then when they get relegated buy him on a cheap

  16. Yea about Gaston Ramirez...Didn Jaimie put up an article where he mentioned one or two Uruguayan journalists telling it was 100% sure that GR is gonna join LFC? And he is gonna probably end up with Southampton. So I dont think we can be really sure about Sahin until BR or LFC say so...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Or for £27M..........

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, I posted that article.  I simply posted what two respected journos said; I didn't say that I believed Ramirez would sign. I was just passing on pertinent information.

Things change quickly in the world of transfers.  It's perfectly possible that Ramirez wanted to join LFC at one stage, then changed his mind.

  19. Nuri Sahin's departure from Real Madrid is taking longer than originally planned. Although the player has fully decided to leave, given the few minutes that I would enjoy if staying another year in the club, there is still no agreement for the Turk then definitely pack.

Reza Fazeli, representing the player, passed Thursday by the office of the stadium to continue negotiating the exit of the Premier Sahin. Arsenal and Liverpool are pushing hard to be done with the transfer of the player. Both Fazeli as his client's interest Sahin know Madrid to accept the offer from Liverpool, although the player is trying to Arsenal, who has not withdrawn the bid, is the final destination.

For now, trading is stopped until next week, when finally settled.

  20. what does that load of drivel mean?
its going to be a close call, seems he prefers arsenal but real want him to join us.
we need this guy badly, without him , our transfer window dealings will look pretty tame.

if we had of listened to da owners when they came frist and said they were looking for a young bright manger and not forced kenny on to them every week rodgers cud of had that 120 million do u think we wud b buying a nobody for 3 million then

    ReplyDelete
  24. Agree. There is some jumping the gun here. Sahin has NOT agreed and there is no confirmation from official sources. When/if that comes then we can say it is done and dusted.

    ReplyDelete
  25. He will go to Arsenal - they have the money and Champions League - B R Abort this mission and look elsewhere - in addition he is injury prone

    ReplyDelete
  26. I kind of agree with that, but I think Allen and Lucas will sit slightly deeper, then Sahin will play ahead, in place of Gerrard (but obviously not all the time), and Johnson will be on instead of Kelly.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Just because you havent heard of him doesnt make him a nobody. Players arent good players by how popular they are.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ramirez was rubbish in the Olympics - no worth £2 million

    ReplyDelete
  29. I said the best starting 11! GJ is too error prone on the right although he may be better than kelly in attack...and lucas who!?

    ReplyDelete
  30. There was never more than general interest in Ramirez. We enquirer in his availability. Nothing more. No offer was ever in.
Expect Sahin, Tello on loan if after goes to Barca, which still looks likely. There's a potential premier league player. Not Dempsey, Johnson or Walcott. And Amorbieta to replace Agger if he goes.

  32. Lucas probably the best DM in the Premiership thats who!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Johnson's been one hell of a player for England recently and been excellent in pre-season. The thing that everybody's been saying for seasons (play him as a winger) has actually come true under Rodgers. The wing-backs are essentially wingers, with Lucas dropping back into defence to create a 3-2-2-3, with the wing-backs as some of our most advanced players.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Johnunderpressure1:26 pm, August 17, 2012

wud u not agree we missed a trick not getting rodgers last year my point is we wudnt b looking at him if we had da money we wasted last year we are gonna lose 15 million on andy c he was popular but still shit

    ReplyDelete
  35. THIS GUY WILL NOT BE COMING TO LIVERPOOL - LETS NOT WASTE ANOTHER SECOND ON HIM - GOING TO ARSENAL - I AM JUST AS CERTAIN AS WHEN WE RECENTLY LOST OUT TO SPURS - FORGET HIM AND THINK AGAIN

    ReplyDelete
  36. Man ur deluded Glen is the fourth best right back and England's best RB. The attacking threat he poses makes Nasri look inferior. Sorry but GJ is a world class player who we need badly.

As for Lucas, one of the best DM of the world and second only to Yaya toure in the BPL.

U seriously need to watch LFC matches, and Sahin is superior to Allen, thus i vote allen to sit on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Barnes? Has John Barnes come out of retirement!? ;-P

    ReplyDelete
  40. No he wont, mourinho will not sanction it coz Ars are competing in CL, and what did u say Arsenal have MONEY- huh bah, they will sell Song and maybe Vermalen to raise their owners profit coffers.

    ReplyDelete
  41. you did not see his freekick then?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hey Jamie are you sure about sahin- i heard arsenal convinced Sahin to stall negotiations(CL) so that they can loan him.

    Which news is the latest?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Allen and Sahin are as good or even better than lucas at intercepting and tackling and unlike him they have other attributes like the 91% pass accuracy of allen and the pin point alonso-like passes and diagonals of sahin...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh I agree with you on that point, although I will say when Kenny was put in I thought it would be better, but I guess hindsight is a wonderful thing.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Did we want him? Do u honestly think he wud sign for Southampton if we had bid. I also don't believe spurs bid £12.5m (£0.7m) more than southampton if u believe the press. It seems a very strange move when if u believe it both Milan clubs us and Spurs all wanted him. I suspect his options were the club he is joining.

as i said we aint lookin 2 bad up 2 that point but fuck downing or that nobody we got so yeah barnes 2 put da boots bak on or mayb more likely go for lennon that front 3 of  lennon suarez borini wud do me put barnes bak on bence!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. At the end of the 2010-11 season season Kenny's record wud have us second. I don't remember reading about a clamour of fans wanting anyone but him. He had sold Torres and Babel and brought in Suarez and Carroll. Carroll was injured but the snippets we saw looked promising (city for example). Dial forward and the cash spent on Adam, Hendo and Downing looks wasted but we can all be wise after the event. If we had finished 3rd and got to 2 cup finals no one wud be moaning. The fact is we didn't but let's not all be experts after the event!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. And your stats for Sahin are based on what exactly. Not his la liga record that's for sure

    ReplyDelete
  50. Given their history of accurate stories about Real Madrid, I would tend to believe Marca over other sources.

    ReplyDelete
  51. How can you possibly have a 'best starting 11' without Lucas it?? He's probably going to be one of the 1st names on the teamsheet week in week out.

  53. Are any of you out there not excited by the the new signing assaidi ? He looks like a real shrewd bit of business buy the might Reds ??? Add Sahin to the midfield and we are looking stronger than last year. I also read that Dempsey has handed in a request and is not travelling with Fulham to this weekends game...
I think that is a very exciting Liverpool team for this season.

  56. Think we're all a bit upset about Ramirez.  But, it does appear that money is the issue here.  The silver lining, such as it is, is that Brendan isn't letting people take advantage of us any more.  I like the tough business-like approach.  I think sometimes the best deals in business are the ones that you walk away from.  It's not just about doing a deal, but also about knowing when not to do a deal.  Let's be honest, we don't even need the benefit of hindsight to wish we hadn't paid so much for Andy Carroll.

So far I think Rodgers' transfers have been very shrewd.  Just because we're LFC it doesn't mean we can't haggle over price to get good value.

Sahin looks a great prospect.  I hope we get him, and am a little concerned about the Arsenal speculation, so will be relieved if and when there's an official statement.  What is it they say?  "All's fair in love and war".  Let's hope Wenger misses out.

As for Ramirez, I agree that his agent has given him selfish advice.  Reminds me of Tevez and Mascerano going to the Hammers.  If he does well he won't stay there long.  But, good luck to the Saints.  Nice to see them back in the Prem.

From our point of view, the most important thing is the team, and the way we play.  Passing isn't a revelation at Liverpool, it's not as if KK didn't try this too.  But the game has moved on.  It's not just about passing, but possession, winning the ball back quickly, and of course winning games.  The teams that have won the Premier League over the last 10 years have one thing in common above all else, relentless determination to win games.  Man U are the Germans of the Premiership in this respect.  Last year they had what I consider one of their weaker teams in recent years, but they got 89 points and came second on goal difference!  They win games away that we only draw or lose at home - often in the last 10 mins.  If they aren't winning, they keep upping the tempo until they score.  This is what Liverpool need.  Total and utter belief in our ability to win against any team, anywhere.  That's what Rodgers needs to achieve.  Our future success doesn't rely on any one player, but on the team ethic and method of play.  I like Rodgers attitude, and believe he can achieve this.  (Not in 1 season though, might take 3 - 5 years).

    ReplyDelete
  57. I think he is going to Arsenal.

After a year of transfer disaster, we are too weak to compete with top teams, specially with CL.  Once the big boys have finished the feast, we 'll share the spoils with the like of Fulham, Southampton, QPR.

It's time for us to fight it out & win over Fulham (U know why 'm saying this).  Even Southampton is poaching players whom we had been tracking for the last 3 months.  Our esteem is to approach players not even given a squad No. by Berca & then in replacement by someone from Hreenveen.  If not Shaheen, we 'll definitely get Davis from mighty Bolton.

After 29 years of die hard LFC support, starting as a kid, now I am proud that LFC can approach Real, Berca, MCity or Chelsea for their players.

  58. Still need a quality holding midfielder, Lucas is'nt natural at this position and i'm not sure Allen is either. hope we get Sahin though, so we can drop or preferably sell, the likes of Adam, Spearing etc..but Arsenal ARE in Champs league, so would'nt surprise if he goes there instead. still YNWA.

  61. Yeah I know, the team will probably look like that:

    _____________Reina_____________
    Johnson___Skrtel___Agger___Enrique
    ______Lucas___Allen___Sahin______
    _____Borini___Suarez___Assaidi_____

    ReplyDelete
  62.  That looks superb - Stevie with greater threat on flank than Sahin, and Suarez has been devastating coming in off the left. The reality would be however, that all four of those attacking players, and the 'wing backs' can take up a very fluid position where the holding CDM's and Central defense hold a more disciplined formation. The front four interchange and link up causing opposition defenses a real headache. Strong core, and creativity. Nice.

  63. What the!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do so hope for your sake that you're playing mind games or taking the mick as far as Barnes is concerned mate.... 64. I think he'd be a fantastic signing. I still don't understand why he'd move to us ahead of Arsenal, who are in the European Cup and more importantly have less competition in central midfield.

    Arsenal(88.7)

            Vermaelan(8.5) Koscielny(8)
    Sagna(8.2)                             Gibbs(7.8)

    Assaidi(7.8)                               Suarez(9)
                         F.Borini(7.8)

I underrated Assaidi and Fab Borini. But still our team is miles better than Arsenal and Tottenham. YNWA, LFC 4ever

Besides I dont think Brendan Rodgers will bench the players he signed himself, that would make no freakin sense. If Gerrard has to play it has to be in lucas` place, thats why I said at first that we should go for a midfield 3 of sahin gerrard and allen...Where would you put Gerrard otherwise?

  77. Arteta, Wilshere, Song, Diaby, Ramsey, Cazrola, Arshavin, Rosicky, Frimpong, Coquellin etc. - Arsenal aren't exactly thin in central midfield either...

    ReplyDelete
  78. If R.Madrid suffer injuries this season, and decide they need Sahin back, do they really want him ineligble if he plays for Arsenal in the CL, somehow I doubt it.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Hope we buy him (10m Euros is the asking price, not £10m) if we can? but a loan deal would be great too, with a chance to buy at the end of the season. Oosuma Asaidi looks like he needs a bit of time to become a decent premiere league player, maybe a few months in the reserves, will let us know whether he`s good enough to play within our first team? Only time will tell, but i think brenden knows what he wants, and i dont think he would bring anyone in who wouldn`t add something too the current squad. If we were to get Tello on loan also? or maybe if this falls through, and we go for Clint Dempsey? we would be a force this season, for all our opposition i think. Brenden Rodgers as put the belief back into the team and i think most of us the hardcore LFC supporters. Looking forward to this season, more so than the last 4 or 5 before, and the transfer window hasn`t finnished yet, and I can see a couple more surprisers, before the end. RedMan4Life.

  83. It wasin`t rocket science Henderson £20m Downing the same Carroll was a panic buy, brought on by the last minute sale of Torres, to the sum of £35m for him, and at the time Hazard could have came for £25m? with a bit of coaching, and im sure we could have got Adam Johnson, for the same money we waisted on Downing? and for £40m we had left we could have had Damio for £25m and maybe Gaston Ramirez too? you may argue the fact, that its easy for someone like me to come out with this after the fact? with hindsight, but I never thought much of Downing or Henderson when we bought them i was down hearted, I always wanted Hazard, and Johnson and I like most supporters, when Carroll was bought, thought is this a bloody joke? And at the time i voiced my concerns, so dont tell me that Kenny and Comolli Didin`t have better options? because we all thought Hazard would be a LFC player and at the time most LFC fans i spoke too wanted Adam Johnson over Downing. And Charlie Adam come on lets be honest, so £100m should have brought us Champions league football? if spent wisely lets be honest? RedMan4Life. with an opinion, sometime the truth hurts.

  84. Mourinho & Wenger hate each other, it has been well documented in the press, so he's going to be advised to stay away from the Emirates. BR &  JM are good pals, hopefully this could see a few more of Real Madrid's talented youngsters coming our way but, in all honesty, seeing us taking on loans for the first team is a bit disheartening. I can't remember us doing that before and, after catching up with the pre-season matches, our own youngsters are looking good.

    ReplyDelete
  85. What's your view on the Dempsey situation? We seam to have done another Gareth Barry which I for one think is totally wrong, LFC cant build a players hopes up so he try's to force a move then not put a bid in again, can we? Both players were individually spoken about by the managers, who said they were going for them, they in turn say, so long guys sorry no point in training or going with you to matches LFC said they are coming for me ... and then nothing. Totally destroying their relationships with the fans and current managers. As for Sahin just decide what you want to do already, would you rather be a player who is in the CL for no reason other than being brought at the right time, or do you want to be a player who does so well with the rest of his team they fight their ways into Europe?!?!, I want Euro football .,.... well come and earn it if your as good as they say you are!!

  86. If the loan club pays a loan fee, I highly doubt they would agree to a recall option for the parent club. Yep, that is probably my old Football Manager influence coming into play!

    ReplyDelete
  88. They got the numbers in central midfield (although Arshavin is no way a central midfield option, come on! ;)) but quite a few of them are hardly reliable ones though, in terms of fitness (Diaby, Wilshere) and where they are in their development (Frimpong, Coquelin) . But yes, they got the numbers. I got a feeling they will bring in two central midfielders, one being Sahin and the other being someone like Capoue, as Sahin isn't a Song-like player, unless Wenger is changing the dynamic of the central midfield.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I would find it hard to separate the Arsenal centre backs and ours. Vermaelen is a class act. Sagna is the best right back in the league, for me, and imo, far better than Johnson who is woeful defensively quite a bit. I suppose I/we could go on but its all opinions with things like this, so fair post in that regard.

According to our current squad, this should be our
starting 11 come match day. If anyone comes in it won’t be enough time to break them into the team for the weekend. For the same reason I have
put Sterling as left attacker until Assaidi is ready for starting duty. As we
should play offensive football in the opening game I would love to see Raheem
get the chance to seize the day. If it doesn’t work out we always have Downing
or even Assaidi at hand. Maybe a bit risky, but I really think boosting the wonderkids
confidence could be a good move to kick start his season.

Would love to see both Sahin and Tellio at Anfield,
but without any hope of permanent deals they would be mercenaries at best. These
players are good additions and will strengthen our squad, so I say sign them if
you can BR. If we get to keep them for only one season, we can’t afford to build
our team up around them tough.

  95. Fact is Sahin would be a LOAN signing.... He's not going to start every game. Lucas, Allen and Gerrard in midfield, with players like Sahin, Adam and Shelvey for sub appearances and FA/League cup and Europa matches.

We'll have a packed schedule so you trust me when I say we wont have the same team constantly.

  96. you say gerrards to old and in the same sentence you contradict your self by saying gerrard should play the role lucas plays , the most physically demanding position of the midfield , like people have said to you above learn football , you make no sense , brendan rogers will play gerrard in a more advanced role so he can link up with suarez , and sorry to say like lucas ,  gerrards name will be first on the team sheet unless they need rest or they are injured , why because he has the experience and more so hes our captain , you aint going to drop the captain of your club just because youve gone out and spent money on midfielders lol

  97. Vermaelen is better than Skrtel but really Agger is way better. And really Arsenal concedes more goals than us despite lucas injury. And Johnson has imprved immensly defensively. He was one of England's standout players and right now Johnson is the better player.

  98. I couldn't disagree more with that (including the implied logic of how Arsenal's goals conceded column backs up your point that their defenders are inferior, ( Because Vermaelen (like Agger) picked up injury, so did Sagna, Gibbs, etc, so first choice defence was hardly ever-present, so that is a very poor point to make)). Well like I said its all about opinions, so one can easily go on, so I'll leave it there.

  99. Players don't care about history museums, they care about money and current affairs. If Arsenal offer  the COMPETITIVE financial package, promise of regular football  AND CL football, I doubt Sahin would care much about the big 5.

  101. You don't have to tell me that mate. If you read my reply to the previous comment you would understand that it was a bit of lighthearted banter. And by the way he might think playing at Liverpool could be better for his career by starting every game and not being used sparingly. So don't speak on behalf of every player like you know. Whether he plays at Liverpool or Gooners he will still be rich. Plain and simple pal.

  102. The La Liga stats for Sahin showed that he has a 87% pass completion rate and a 85%long ball success rate but that's too good for Loserpool ;p

  104. Sorry for offending your PMT-like sensitive nature, with my own attempt at lighthearted banter at your so-called lighthearted banter with my little history museum joke. 'And by the way', we have plenty of central midfield options too, so I wouldn't be confident about him starting every game when our most likely first choice trio SEEMS (had to emphasize that, for your sake as I don't want your precious self to think I speak on behalf of Rodgers)to be Lucas, Allen and Gerrard. 'So don't speak on behalf of' Rodgers please, like you know him and his plans. See, two can play at that silly stupid game you have tried to play, after you couldn't take someone having a pop at your 5 cups banter. Both Liverpool and Arsenal have quite a few options in central midfield. Anyhoo, I'll leave at that, as you get far too easily worked up. Cheerio, take it easy.
