'Grow up & get on with it!' - Lawro blasts childish £30m Spurs star. Fair?

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has criticised Gareth Bale and Tottenham Hotspur for their childish reaction to Charlie Adam's tackle during last week's LFC-Spurs pre-season friendly in the USA.

In the aftermath of the now grossly exaggerated incident, Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas joined Bale in making a series of childish public statements about the issue, the nadir of which came when Bale petulantly insisted he was 'not going to accept' Adam's apology, even if he made one.

Yes, Adam's tackle was clumsy, but he did not deserve to be publicly ridiculed for it. In any event, after all the fuss made by Spurs, Bale was back in action just 72 hours later as he played 74 minutes in the London club's final game of their pre-season tour. In his column for the Liverpool Daily Post, Lawro was distinctly unimpressed with the way Spurs and Bale handled the situation. He observed:

"I’m not sure where Tottenham put the handbags before their statements but they just have to grow up and get on with it.

"I don’t buy the Tottenham complaints that suggest Adam has been deliberately targeting Bale in recent years. Yes, the tackle wasn’t good but I don’t think it was malicious, and now it appears Bale will be fine.

"In any case, youngsters such as Bale and Kyle Walker have no idea about the context of serious tackling. Some of these lads wouldn’t have lasted two minutes when I was playing".

As a result of his juvenile EMO victim act, £30m-rated Bale has come out of this situation looking a bit foolish. His reaction is hardly surprising though - what else can you expect from a preening, pampered ladyboy footballer, the likes of whom are increasingly prevalent in top level football? Man up, already!

Given his seemingly miraculous recovery, Bale should (IMO) apologise to Adam for calling him 'a bit of a coward'. What right does he have to publicly besmirch the Liverpool midfielder's character in such a way?

To his credit, Adam has remained silent on the issue, and simply allowed Bale to make a massive fool of himself.

I'll be worried about your team falling apart.. You beat teams with one player bale. Whens he out your team your poor.

  6. I'm a Spurs fan and I think Lawro is hilarious. Whenever he co-commentates he comes out with some cracking comments. He is forever doing it. He is just old school, and he hates play acting, diving, pampered players etc...
He's just made another one of his blasé comments without really thinking too much about what he is saying, or understanding the history between the two players.
Having said all of this I can see why Bale is upset. I think perhaps he has gone a bit too public with his commets, as have THFC, but perhaps they were just trying to highlight the issue Adam has with him before the season starts.
As a general point I do hate this side of the English game, and it is the reason why England will never win a trophy until our attitude towards the game changes. Too much huff and puff and snarling and not enough skill, flair and movement. You watch any grass roots adult game and flair players are snuffed out at the earliest opportunity. In England if you are a kid and you are a bit slow but you have a great first touch and can pass, you may be lucky to get a regular game. In Spain these players are first on the team sheet. In Brazil...they love the ball, here we get rid of it asap before we are kicked in the air.
I'm waffling, but my point is that we are prehistoric in our approach to the game at almost every level and sometimes even as fans...and some of the comments on here just go to prove that!!

Lol. Missing the point, he saying the tackles were much worse but you didn't see players rolling around they stood up started playing. Footballers are now women they roll around for ages. Adam tackle wasn't good but bale &co are out of line saying what they did. Liverpool didn't moan about the tackle on are LB against toronto (which was two fwo footed and high) the LB stood up an started playing again.

Lol midtable is 10th down.. So hardly midtable. And another thing.. We brought a lot of player they need to gel. And are manager was only intrested in trophys. Unlike harry he wanted top 4.if we never tried in the cups we would of easily been in top 4. Fact.

  15. Zulu I think you need to grow up once again Alan Hansen is looking at things through them rose tinted glasses again is this the same man who said how well the Liverpool team played last season and were did you finish. I think considering how much you have spent and finishing mid table just about beating a team in the lower divison of the football league is that money well spent I would suggest even the most hardened off Liverpool supporters would agree with me if not I hold my hands up. Think history has not helped Adam with this one maybe a quick shake off hand and are you all right and a apology might have stopped this jugganaut from rolling

  16. A man watch new Batman movie and kills 41 people lately,
Lawro playing and watching football from 80's says that tackle was nothing compare to what he saw back in the day,
thanks good no one will watch true 60's -or we may have to armored our self's and go to Vietnam...
The tackle from Mr. Adams-the Scottish Perl of wisdom been a Blackpool player again Bale was ridiculous and if action was taken back then Charlie-not the Vietnamese would be thinking before doing it again or should of been well punished by now(He did a few more past season)
No sorry from Mr.Adam-well I don't believe Mr.Hunt saying sorry will be enough to move away the safety helmet from Peter Cheh head or is it?
On the end of the day this is just a friendly game but according to Mr.Barton there is no friendly fire.
We all love our beloved clubs but not all of us are sick as well Mr. Lawro.
Humans live on streets, animals in zoo-with bars around them
The only good thing of all this is if Liverpool keep doing well in midd-table historically we may start new era as well of buying tickets for events much more cheaper

  17. its disappointing that Lawrenson feels the need to comment on this matter. His comments and asides on commentries in general are banal, childish and purile. He was a gifted footballer but a very poor TV personality.Adams tackle was not acceptable but some Liverpool fans feel they have to go on the offensive and defend the undefendable simply because he wears the shirt. Its not very mature and I m sure the vast majority feel the tackle was poor, particularly in light f the history between the two.Bales reaction was understandable but a little over the top,he would command more respect from us all,Spurs fans included if he said nothing.Silence can be a very powerful tool and it would show Adams for the idiot that he is without the need for further comment.Bales up and running again so time to move on..........Liverpools history is a glorious one and the stuff we,Spurs dream of but just of late particularly under Dalglishs reign they lacked class.hopefully for the good of football Rogers can restore that and prats like Lawrenson can be consigned to history.

  19. Actually mate that is exactly the point, the players are stronger and faster now and the boots more light weight. Therefore harder impact and less protection. Yeah the tackles were worse back then, but the boots they played in were like doc martin work boots, much more protection. Trust me I speak from experience having broken a metatarsal and ripped ankle ligaments from tackles. Granted I got up and tried to play on but I didn't have a career to worry about, you got to remember in Lawro's day they played for the love of the game and to win trophy's. Now with the money thrown around in football you can set up your whole family for life, there's a lot more at steak if someone ends your career through what is at best a careless tackle
