Transfer Update: Rodgers on Sahin/Tello rumours, plus LFC sign Assaidi!

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has provided a new update on Liverpool's transfer activity.

Speaking to Reporters in his pre-West Brom press conference at Melwood a few minutes ago, Rodgers was asked if Liverpool were in negotiations with Barcelona and Real Madrid over loan deals for Cristian Tello and Nuri Sahin.

In response, the Liverpool boss smiled cryptically, and provided a typically cagey reply:

"They're the two players you guys [The press] are always taking about!

"There's lots of great work going on behind the scenes, and we're making inquiries about players, and we hope in the next 48 hours to have one or two more players coming in".

Rodgers also confirmed that he was working to a tight budget, which is hardly surprising given the catastrophic wastefulness under Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli. He explained:

"The reality is we didn't have the money this year. There's a certain budget to work to, but it doesn't worry me. Everyone wants the money, but you can't always have the money.

"There's certainly no frustration on my part, and we can hopefully bring in one or two more players before the end of August".

The Tello deal seems to be dead at the moment, but according to my sources, Sahin is 98% a done deal, and should be completed in the next 7-10 days.

Additionally, Liverpool have reached an agreement with SC Heerenveen for the transfer of winger Oussama Assaidi, subject to the player passing a medical.

The 24-year-old has scored 20 goals in 68 appearances for Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie, and he's played for Morocco national team.

  1. I would be delighted if those two players are Sahin and Tello.

  2. Not sure how good is Sahin. His record in RM is not reliable meanwhile at dortmund is outdated

  3. I hope this is true. Slightly worrying that he said they dont have the money this season.
I really hope we can get CL football this season, it will be tough, but I think its possible. Realistically, Man Utd, Man City, and Cheslea will probably fill the top 3 spots, many not in that order. But I think it will be Liverpool, Arsenal, and Spurs for 4th, and I think Spurs could struggle a bit.

  4. Brendan is THE MAN - Common sense at last - Man U need to start well because their finances are really stretched and the shares are priced so highly ???

  5. I think the FSG should push the boat out for Gaston Ramirez and Sahin on loan...   that would be perfect...    We also have lots of dead wood to move out in Henderson, Downing, Adam and sadly Spearing too...   that should bring in another £25m....   Keep Agger and Carroll and we should have enough for a good challenge...

  6. That is truly great news Jamie! Hopefully if we do sign them we will have a buy out clause at the end of the season! If we get sahin then maybe Adam will be off.

Certainly Spearing, although he has the heart, he needs to be shipped off.

  7. Hence the need to get rid of Cole and Adam, and the apparent hawking of Agger to raise some funds, I guess.

  8. as much as id like to see us buy marquee players im quite happy that were not just firing money about. weve made far too many expensive mistakes and im sick of expensive flops. heres to value signings!

  9. Apparently Tello is staying put at Barcelona to force his way into the team.

  10. this 2 and no more cheers

  11. As I've stated before, I'm not convinced of either of these guys, but that being said, Sahin has played in the German league - similar physical demands there to the EPL, then he's trained with RM in Spain, definitely one of my favorite teams at the moment with one of my favorite managers in JM.

So that being said, he probably has the training and the goods based just on those to concrete circumstances that he is good enough... especially when you look at that Madrid team... Jose obviously wants to keep the player, so he must be worth something...

Still for me: Dempsey, Walcott, Defensive mid...top of the wishlist (obviously limited by funds etc. - if not then defo Messi or Neymar!!!)

  12. like your comment alot... I still have space for Hendo and Downing though

  13. As much as I love Kenny I wish he never came back. BR could have used that 100M to spend on quality players instead of boring slow 1 dimensional players like Downing Adam and AC. Hope we get Sahin Tello Ramirez or Theo...

    ReplyDelete
  14. i thought we had to spend within our means. to my understanding we have at least £20m coming in each year from Standard Charter on top of all other income. surely the owners must realise to get to the champions league they will have to spend more of their own money until we get there. It would be interesting if you have the sources Jaimie to breakdown how much we have coming in from sponsors etc

  15. Jamie you are some can of piss!! I have to laugh at this site ..it gives me a laugh.."My soucres"...are your sources every newspaper in the northern hemisphere...I see you are backtracking on the Tello transfer!! :-) Keep up the good work..its comic gold!!

  16. "according to my sources, the Sahin deal is 98% done" ? who are your sources? a fellow tabloid?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sure but we saw what happened last year when they blindly trusted KD and DC with substantial funds. Good players are very expensive and for a club that finished 8th last year it is a big gamble to spend big + high wages. It took Man C a while to be where they at but the money they have spent is diabolical.

I prefer shrewd buys rather than "Marquee" signings.

Although money can give a big push for success, with the new FFP coming in spending we have to be wise. Chelsea paid 25M for Oscar who has had one full season in the Campeonato Brasileiro. That is a big gamble. They can afford that gamble because their squad is competitive and they won the CL.

    We can't. IMO anyway.

  18. It's a scam...like Facebook & the share price will never do well. FSG & Man City owners will short this counter to make sure it never sees daylight

  19. Love the idea of Sahin coming in is pure class like watching him and he will add a lot to the midfield cant wait.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sahin was THE standout player in the German league in the 2010/11 season and was voted player of the year far ahead of everyone else, including Goetze, Robben, etc..

He was the youngest ever 1st team player at Dortmund at age 16, and was capped by the Turkey senior team just after turning 17.  He is potential world class and would hugely improve our starting 11.   A midfield four of Lucas, Sahin, Gerrard, and Allen could be the best in the EPL.

    ReplyDelete
  21. you dont rate sahin but you rate theo bahahahahaha.
theo gives the ball away far too much and is very erratic.
there are few young box to box MF's around as good as sahin. He is a major upgrade on adam, and in fact, a MF of lucas, allen and sahin looks pretty awesome.
sahin can do it all. score, cross, set pieces, threaded balls, penalties.
it was announced last night on twitter by a respected journo, and yes it seems nailed on.

  24.  liverpool do have the money they made 300mil in USA on pre season through sponsorship deals It looks like they dont trust the man they hired. .NESN need to give him some money to replace attacking players who have left. Are main problem last year was finding the back of the net yet we have let attacking players go and and only bought borini to replace them. Where are the goals coming from?nesn needs to fulfill their promises made to match our rivals The money paid out for players last year was mostly recuperated through sales call me a cynic but i recall other promises being made about stadium and matching rivals off our last owners and look how that turned out We need attackers without which we will be worse off than last year.If NESN want liverpool to finish better than last three years then they need to back their man and give him the funds to bring us back were we belong and stop selling best players to our rivals

    ReplyDelete
  25. I meant Tello .Jamie . What have you heard on Tello ?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Signing Sahin on loan would just make the Allen signing even more puzzling - Allen would likely still be available at the same price next year, while Sahin could fit in and play the same role right now (as could Henderson & Shelvey, although to a lower standard admittedly). And right now we have a gaping hole out wide for which that £15m would've been better spent.

I still can't get behind any push for Tello though - taking raw players on loan to give them experience is something that is done with mid-table/lower league clubs, and I'd hope that we have higher aspirations than that again.

We have little to gain and a lot to lose by loaning an unproven kid and sticking him in our first team. LFC should either use the transfer/loan markets to pick up players that are ready to significantly improve the first team in the short term, or develop our own players with a view to them being better assets for the club in the long term (whether on the pitch or in the transfer market), instead of just taking the short term hit so that we can develop longer term assets for other clubs.

  27. £300 Million in sponsorships for a few days? Surely those figures cannot be right?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Running the show before the window is closed to make sure these two tagarted guyz  are on board

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm not quite sure how we'd get away with starting 4 central midfielders?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I agree Jay, if Sahin and Tello has a stormer of a season and do really really well then when the loan is over they will just get back to their clubs and we'll have a massive hole in our team again.

Puzzled as to how Sahin is going to fit? Lucas, allen and Sahin in a free man midfield?

    Hmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The money that was spent by Dalglish just looks worse and worse with every transfer that gets confirmed/mooted elsewhere, with technically superior players being available for significantly less money...

    ReplyDelete
  32. delighted to hear that, but we need more wide and attacking player to find the back of the net

    ReplyDelete
  33. Thoe is very talented... I believe its bad management and game plan for him which hasn't seen him massively successful yet. He scores spectacular goals and can cut teams up... I'd ask you to recall to a certain champions league game where theo ran through the whole liverpool team and scored a monster of a goal. His pace is devastating, has skill and with the right management (BR) he'll be class! Hima and Sterling right and left forwards... nuff said!

Honestly, I haven't seen Sahin play much... but from what I've seen on Youtube videos I wasn't that taken aback... but hey maybem, whatever, as long as LFC benefits I'm happy

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes me too, Downing has got a really big season ahead of him and i'd like to see Hendo played centrally ad if he plays well, keep him. He seems very professional, hardworking and has talent. I just dont think hes a right midfielder. England under 21 captain too so must e somethin there.

  35. loan for spearing to another prem club, or even over seas somewhere for 2 years...

    ReplyDelete
  36. All this negative talk about spearing is premature. He will not be on a high wage and has performed very well in some games. He is still young enough to improve and deserves a year or two more for his work rate and loyalty. This heckling of our players is really disappointing. The energy would be better spent and with better results in supporting them.

i wud be happy if we can hav sahin and dempsey

    ReplyDelete
  38. You missed out the part where he said: "We had a certain budget we had to work within and even to get those one or two players we had to move one or two out."
Not to bring up an old argument but pretty sure you were suggesting 'sell to buy' was a myth...

    ReplyDelete
  39. Being a German LFC supporter, I can basically guarantee that you will be absolutely delighted with Sahin. His bad record at RM comes down to him being injured coming in and then having to compete with Alonso for a spot. Sahin is already beyond the "talent"-stage, he's already got the intelligence, technical ability, vision and passing range of a world class player. Unless he gets injured, Sahin will become a starter in no time. If there's a player that can finally fill in for Alonso, adequately, it's him.

    ReplyDelete
  40. He also said something quite specific you seem to have missed: "we had a certain budget we had to work within and even to get those one or two players we had to move one or two out". Sounds precisely like confirmation of that "sell to buy" policy you were so sure wasn't in operation.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sahin looks like a good player but I can't really see where he fits into our team. Surely Lucas, Gerrard and Allen are going to be our starting 3 in midfield? And with Shelvey, Henderson, Adam and Spearing as back up do we need Sahin? Don't get me wrong, if we signed Sahin I wouldn't be upset but I don't want his signing to hinder the progress of Shelvey and Henderson who I think can go onto to be great players for Liverpool. Tello is the one I would choose between the two. He plays in a position we need strengthening, he has fantastic pace and can beat a man. Hopefully he can be persuaded to join. If we can add Tello to the front three with Borini and Suarez I think we look strong up top. Adding Allen and hopefully keeping Agger and I think our chances this season look good. Maybe I'm being unrealistic but I think our potential starting 11 looks really strong.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Having watched a bit of Tello, I think he seems over rated. So im not to worried we havent got it. He reminds me of Babel a lot. Good for the future maybe but not the finished product yet. In regards to Sahin, he looks like a young Alsono. His style though is excatly the opposite of tika taka. Its long hollywood balls mainly. Jamie, what you make of this? you think hes plan B?

it certainly gives us more options, and we need that strength in depth. Lucas / Allen / Stevie
    Sahrin / Henderson / Jonjo

Gives us a better back up options. Plus if we cant break down a team away from home Sahrin will give us that different style, esp id used with big andy.

    ReplyDelete
  43. imo, Adam will go, Although spearing is pants, hes on low wages and can fill Lucas`s boots if it really comes to it. Ok not very well but hes still a option. We need options. Adam though appears to have no place now at LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well Borni and Allen have cost us £26mil thats a pretty big out lay in my books. We didnt make much back from the players we sold at all. Wages though have been massively reduced which is awesome. I think so far we have shaved 18mil of wages per year in this window. Thats a lot of free cash for next year. I like what FSG our doing. There making it so we turn a nice profit each year and can then compete in the transfer window from that. Fairplay to them.

Joe Cole is the next one we need to sell imo, his wages are way to high for what he does. would save us another 5mil a year. That said I think we are stuck with him until his contract runs out as no one else will match his wages.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yeah sounds wrong, plus any sponsorship money isnt in one big lump sum, its spread over so many years, you cant just spend it all in one go.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sahin and Allen will swap imo. Theres a lot of games so you need more than just the starting 11. Strength in depth is perfect. I`d rather have them two swapping then Spearing or Adam coming in to replace Allen.

Completely agree about Tello tho. The Sahin loan looks good. He will strengthen our team and cost us hardly anything. Then next year even if he does leave we can buy a new player for that position. Its a low risk option as if he don`t work out we can send back. Its very smart play by BR

    ReplyDelete
  47. Its worth noting that Allen can also do Lucas`s role too. So some games maybe Lucas, Allen, Stevie others Lucas, Sahin, Stevie and some Allen, Sahin, Stevie. To me that looks brillant. First time in years our mid looks damn good again

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sahin is quality - he can take up the left attacking position ahead of Downing or Borini, or anywhere across the midfield. BR seems to be building a team heavy on skillful composed midfielders, similar to the Spanish side who even played midfield maestro Fabregas up front.

It's all about possession, movement, interchange - intelligent players who use the ball well and all of them can finish too. What a nightmare for oppositions to play against! Such a refreshing change to the route 1 footy we've all become bored of.

    ReplyDelete
  49. He can play those long out balls to the wide players but he can also play the shorter stuff and link up play with it very well. Definitely not a long ball player, neither is Xabi (he might do it a fair bit for Real (though not as much as you might think) as Ronaldo likes to receive the ball quick and wide but for Spain, he barely does it. Its all about the team's needs), even if they both execute them well. During his time there, Dortmund were never heavily reliant on long balls (and still aren') and played some lovely stuff.....with him, at the heart of it.

    ReplyDelete
  50.  please check on liverpool newsnow and go back to pre season you will find info there it was with chevrolet among others but it works out at over 300mil it was whilst we was in usa manu also signed a better deal with chevrolet the next day

    ReplyDelete
  51. most transfer deals arent paid in one lump sum they are paid over time so wouldnt have to spend all in one go i dont expect them to spend all their money i just dont see the point in spending on more midfielders but leaving the attacking areas bare if we struggled to score last year how are we going to address this with more midfielders and less forwards if AC or and LS we would only have borini to fill hole it really dosent make sense i also hope coaching is better than last few years because we have struggled in front of goal since Rafa left and that is an area that definately needs attention

    ReplyDelete
  52. Fair points Chan.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Why Sell Henderson??? Hes not deadwood at his age. Lucas wasnt excatly our fav player during his first few years, and look at him now. Henderson is young and will take a few more years to get where he needs to be. He can be used in cup games and some league games and is useful to us. Agreed with Adam and Spearing tho. Downing has looked ok pre season so I`d keep him. We need a squad not just 11 players

    ReplyDelete
  54. Sahin is class, and remember he played very well in pre-season at left back for RM. Tello got an improved contract from Barca, to re-assure him, so he wont feel so vulnerable about being loaned out now. He still has no squad number at Barca, so I would'nt rule out a loan deal just yet.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hey Jamie and word on whether the deal for Sahin is a loan or a permanent signing? Or at least a loan deal with the option to sign him at the end of the seasons. Really excited about the prospect of this. Looks a really tidy player.

    ReplyDelete
  56. i hope you are right we have never really replaced Alonso . I hear good things about Sahin. I think he is even light years ahead of Christain Tello in developement. Tello being a Barca product is respected . I am not saying he is not good but i think he is not as good as Sahin

    ReplyDelete
  57. In that case the 300mil is some sweet deals. I know what you mean about forwards, but I don`t think its that bad as were likely to play 433. That means in the central role we got LS, AC, or Borni along with the young ones to cover. The goals should now be able to come from all areas, and the midfield is the key to making this happen. I would agree we do need a new wide player or two. But I dont think its as bad as people make out. I also think we will get one before the window closes. I`m guessing Tello was a option. So if he don`t come then I would imagine BR has another lined up.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The beauty of what Br is building is the players we are getting can do several roles. borni can play as the center of the front three if LS is out, or can play on the left of it if not. Allen can do the  passing role in mid or the holding role etc... Sahin can do several roles too. Tello can do any of the front three places. Again these players mean if one is injuried its not so bad as last year.

We already have our young Alonso, & thats Suso for me he is the young player that should be getting games this season, not Sahin a player were bringing in to improve for rm & not Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  60. There's an option for permanent deal as well...so if he finds the atmosphere comfortable and also gets a good no. of starts then we can surely see LFC going for that option..

    ReplyDelete
  61. Read somewhere that Everton (of all ppl!) are gonna bid for Adam! Hoping it happens!

    ReplyDelete
  62. With sooo many midfielders, I guess we gonna see the 4-6-0 formation sometime soon!

    ReplyDelete
  63. "Taking raw players....mid-table/lower league clubs" True that, but Sahin is a RMCF player, and surely BR wouldve talked a thing or two about Sahin with JM, dont you think?

  65. TuckerBelfastRed6:56 pm, August 16, 2012

I still love Kenny & if he hadnt come back when he did I dread to think where we would have finished up. Sadly however FSG made the mistake of offering Kenny the contract where even I, as a much as a love and respect the man, was saying it was a mistake and to move Kenny back into his ambassador role and find a young upcoming manager. Imo It was then that FSG should have brought in Brendan.

    ReplyDelete
  66. TuckerBelfastRed7:01 pm, August 16, 2012

Yea agree 100% but remember who it was that set the criteria for the players required. It was FSG who wanted Kenny to buy young British players or so were lead to believe.

  67. Nope but shows we really are doing our business behind closed doors these days. Hopefully this guy can be a hidden gem as I plus most of the footballing world have never heard of him!

  72. TuckerBelfastRed7:32 pm, August 16, 2012

I think that Brendan feels that the players we released  were part of the lack of goals last season so therefore letting them go should not make such a difference to our goal tally. I think Brendan sees Suarez, Borini, Downing & Gerrard as the men that can provide the goals. I am looking forward to seeing Stevie back in his advanced role again, where he of all the players we have, can still punish teams from all areas of the pitch. I think if Stevie & Suarez can click the way Stevie & Torries did were in for a real treat this season.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Don't get me wrong Akshay - my comment about lower standard clubs taking on raw players was in regards to Tello, not Sahin.

Sahin has already proved himself at a consistently high level and would be expected to immediately improve our first team, even if he can't get into the team at Madrid. Tello on the other hand is just a kid that we'd be taking on to give experience so that he can become a better player in the future for Barcelona, while we'd be the ones putting up with his growing pains in the short term, with no long term gain to make up for it!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I HAVE SEEN VERY MANY rEAL MADRID REJECTS DOING WONDERS ELSE WHERE POINT OUT VANDERVAT IN SPURS, WISELY IN INTER MILLAN, RAUL AT SHALKE,  ETC SAHIN WILL BE GOOD TOO.

  75. Hopefully, LFC is gaining momentum by adding young talents in the squad..the defence is good and BR has made judicious changes by making the midfield even stronger..with the likes of Allen, Sahin joining Gerrard and lucas..Ossama and Sterling will be tactical option on the wide sides..the attack looks interesting with both Suarez and Borini forming a good duo..but i feel Dempsey incoming can further add fire up front and will be a good purchase..competition for Hendo and Downing will urge them to surpass themselves..Overall, i feel motivation on all fronts for LFC and as committed fan..i would say YNWA..

Bringing players in on loan serves a number options, but the main 1 imo is if the player doesnt fit or the prems to tough for them then we havnt wasted a load of money on them and its a case of good bye and thank you.

  77. TuckerBelfastRed8:43 pm, August 16, 2012

Well said Dave agree 100% we should back all the players. Im assuming like myself we're of the old school where as supporters if a player was giving 100% for the team then we loved them for it, and I don't think anyone can say young Jay does't giving 100% every time he plays.

Are you saying iyo young Suso isn't ready to make the step up to the first team I no one man that will disagree with that, if Rafa was here would he be getting a start in the first team this season. Imo he would after the way Rafa sang his praises  at the junior euros.

  81.  Hi Zulu. The fact that Sahin fits pretty much anywhere BR wants to play him makes him perfect. We don't exactly have strength in depth. Personally I see him making a big difference in an advanced position on the left - he is composed and can pick a pass - I bet he gets a tonne of assists and he is very capable to have a pop himself too.

Most of all - if Sahin comes, he is probably our 'Marquee signing' (loan) of the summer, and represents a genuinely proven world class act out of the bunch of new guys. Even if he's just with us for the year, I'm sure he'll help us out massively. He'll help, inspire and coach potential talent like Shelvey and Henderson, not squeeze them out, and show up just how mediocre the likes of Adam and Spearing are...if they're still around (verdict still out on Downing).

For pace, we now have Assaidi - looks every bit as quality as Tello so don't about him. If he arrives, great - another good option. Perhaps most of all, if we can get Carol to move on and with the money keep bringing in pacey confident intelligent player(s) with great game awareness (I'd prefer all the money spent on one quality player than couple average players), then we're good to go.

    ReplyDelete
  82. At my thoughts Sahin is a world class player u guys dont know cuz heez hardly played 4 RM cuz of their team and he fits in 2 da  system in a couple of years im pretty sure hell be worth about 40 odd million...and tello is just a potential signing an is stil young so thatz good...personally i think no1 eva thinks about aaron lennon as a player heez an outstanding playa but u don see dat ... or do u ????

  86. I am hoping B Rodgers brings in four more players to change dimension of squad along with Sahin.

1: T Walcott Of Arsenal should be brought for £12-£15M, the asset he has lightning pace, speed our 1st eleven needs in side. Walcott has not really convinced A Wenger that he should be in his first 11 week in week out and with the addition of Cazorla, Giroud and Podolski.

And the emergence of Oxlaide Chamberlain, Walcott should come to the club he supported as a kid and with his energy, raw speed. we will be able to stetch teams at will.

2: C Dempsey Of Fulham should be brought in swap deal with C Adams and £2-£3M Payment, Then we will have a player at club who we know will help Suarez out with Goals during the course of season. As last year we were over reliant on Suarez.

3: M Phillips Of Blackpool should be brought for £2-£5M to come and compete for RW Position at club, he is young, pacey, quick, strong and has the potential to be a world class player in many years to come.

4: S Sinclair Of Swansea should be brought for £4-£7M to come and offer us more speed, pace and creativity down the left hand side than Downing.

Those 4 players and Sahin would take us from top 5-8 club back to a top 1-4 club.

  87. The budget must be tight. BR pulling rabbits out of hats, one minute there's a scout heading to Spain to finalise loan deals then out of nowhere its sprung on us that we've signed an unknown talent from the Dutch league. I dare say from the vid the kid can play. BR is renown for getting the best out of his players so expect to see this lad shine. Nevertheless there's a sense of dejection of not landing premium talent in Tello or G. Ramirez or Walcott, Johnson Dempsey or any number of biggish names that were being banded about.

I have belief that a streamline team will emerge with a refreshed youthful out look peppered with sufficient experience, that's certainly in the right spirit. One marqui signing would lift us and get the press doubters off our backs. With press not slating us before a ball is kicked leaves us focused on playing our hearts out as a unit. Come May fourth might seem not enough- could be closer to the leaders than the doubters lead us to believe.

  90. barcelona seem to do it with no problems and thats the philosphy of football brendan rogers wants us to play tiki taka , watch barcelona and watch us in our last few games if you had noticed the difference in our play at times its about at probably at about 30 percent off what barca do ,quote me wrong if thats a bit high theres a long way to go to get to barcas standards reason being its their engine room was taught at a young age the barca way ,where is liverpool players have come from different systems produced over the years from different managers , this is going to be a patient process for liverpool fc to accomplish this and its going to need all our supporters to be as a positive as we can . ynwa

Three words; strength in depth. Rodgers seems to prefer slick, quick incisive possession football which minimalises the opposition's attacks. With a combative, creative midfield, we'll be able to sweep forward, and snap into a space-denying unit when we lose the ball. Pressing higher up the pack and defending from the front will also help.

I had never heard of Assaidi before we signed him, but who cares really, not all big name players are world beaters, high profile signings mean hype and hoopla and wasting money. We may have what seems to be a surplus in certain areas, but with the league, both domestic cups and the Europa League to play for, I have a feeling we're going to give them all a proper go, and depth will help with that.

Maybe a right winger, defensive mid with a good engine who can snap into the tackles like a Mascherano type player another striker/winger and maybe a centre back cover, and we're looking good. Adam is a good player, he's just not been utilised properly, much like Henderson, and selling either might not make sense unless Rodgers can get higher calibre replacements, or promotes from within.

  92. BR has insisted he wants to to challenge on all competitions. therefore the need for multitasking midfielders and forwards. We will see continuous change in the team trough out this season.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I saw the vid. Good plyer but lets not forget hes playing in a inferior league and he certainly needs to work on his finishing

    ReplyDelete
  94. And the alternative is saying we do have the money and the prices of players going through the roof? This is psychology to show that we are not going to be held ransom on players

    ReplyDelete
  95. May be good for Adam as he seems to excel at small clubs, another reason why it would benefit him and Fulham if we used him in the Dempsey deal, he would probably do well at Fulham too

    ReplyDelete
  96. Downing isn't 1 dimensional and he isn't slow, he is quite quick, he can cross, and as shown against Gomel, he can shoot pretty well. Use him on the right side of the front 3 and we'll see him at his best. Dalglish also bought Suarez, Coates and Enrique. Are they slow, one dimensional players? And by the way, the 100m that Dalglish was given to spend didn't actually include AC, his purchase was used with the money that came in from the Torres sale, so Chelsea financed our purchase of AC.

    ReplyDelete
  97. No, not young British players, young players with potential, it was Dalglish and Comolli who were wanting British talent.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Why would they use money that the Red Sox have brought in to use on us? How would you feel if the Red Sox were struggling a bit and we were winning league after league and they took some of our money and put it into the Red Sox to buy players? I'm sure you would be up in arms over that.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Well said, my thoughts exactly, if we make a good run at it in the Europa League and qualify for the Europa next year or even better, the CL, then we will have more money to spend, but we didn't have the season last season to warrant a big transfer budget, doing that leads to bankruptcy, FSG are shrewd businessmen in a sporting environment, they may not know football, but they know sports and they know a successful season means more revenue to put back into the club, we can't spend out of our means. Have you also noticed that some of our best players in recent times, that being the last 15 or so years have been shrewd buys. Hamann, Riise, McAllister, Garcia, Hyypia, all extremely shrewd buys and all highly successful for our club, all considered to be legends at our club

    ReplyDelete
  100. The attacking players we let go, Maxi, went back to Argentina, Kuyt, went to Turkey, Bellamy, went to Cardiff, that is hardly them going to our rivals. We have attack-minded players at the club, if you actually know anything about tiki taka, then you would know that penetrating possession is an important factor in the style of play, the players that have come in offer that style of play, we have bought a striker, we also have wingers at the club, Sterling being one, Pacheco being another, plus Downing and this new lad, not to mention Stevie, we have plenty of attacking options. Our formation will be 4-3-3, but that top three will be made up of players who can fill each of the positions, that gives us versatility and keeps the opposition guessing, which is very important, nothing worse than being predictable.

    ReplyDelete
  101. That is ridiculous. We are playing in four different competitions this year and have sooo many midfielders as you put it adds competition, keeps the players in the starting line up on their toes and performing well because they know that if they don't, they will be dropped because someone as talented is ready to take their place. That is extremely helpful and adds depth.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I think you'll find the players that BR "released" that he didn't actually release, lets take a look at the ones that have gone. Starting with Aurelio, class but injury prone and has gone back to his homeland. Aquilani, never really given a go at it by RH or KD and has gone back to his homeland as well. Kuyt was never given a good go at it by KD who preferred Henderson in that roll even though Kuyt has produced the goods countless times, he got sick of it and the deal was already done by the time BR came in. Maxi is in the same category as Kuyt and left to end his career in his homeland. Bellamy left to go back to his hometown club to help them gain promotion. These players left because they wanted to, not because BR didn't want them in his system.

    ReplyDelete
  103. It isn't going to be 300 straight up, it will be 300 over a period of years and although that money will be put back into the club, it will go into the infrastructure of the club, that is paying wages to everyone at the club, keeping the training facilities up to date, not every pound that comes into the club is expected to go into buying players, that is completely naive

    ReplyDelete
  104. You mean the gaping hole that was just filled by buying a winger, as was referred to in this very article? Oh yeah

    ReplyDelete
  105. But from what I hear the loan deal has an option to buy, therefore this is a win-win situation for us

    ReplyDelete
  106. Exactly and we aren't then in the position where we have to sell them at a potential loss to another club

    ReplyDelete
  107. And sounds precisely like you just copied what condemned said, almost word for word.

    ReplyDelete
  108. And a certain saying comes to mind, "everything old is new again". The football we played in the 70s and 80s under Paisley and Fagan predominantly was all about not just possession football, but meaningful possession football, a good percentage of our goals in that period were down to patient build up play, moving the ball from one side to the other until we find that hole to penetrate. I remember one goal where the commentator counted over 70 passes in the buildup, by bringing in these composed midfielders and by using some of our own, like Lucas, who has already received raving reviews by BR, and by using the philosophy that BR likes to play, then it is reinventing us into the sides from the 70s and 80s that were so dominant.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Moroccan player signed from Dutch side Heerenveen. Has a handy goalscoring record, including a game they won 6-2 where he scored a hattrick and got the assists for the other three goals

    ReplyDelete
  110. Just to point something out, Raul is anything but a Real Madrid reject, in fact they see him as a legend. 550 games for RM and scored 228 goals. Most definately not a reject. And who is wisely? Do you mean Wesley Schneider?

    ReplyDelete
  111. I think you'll find that Downing and Sterling if they are in the starting line up will be as part of the front three, being that they are wingers

    ReplyDelete
  112. Sorry, hard to take you seriously when you use text speak. Try using real words like "the" instead of "da" and "he's" instead of "heez"

    ReplyDelete
  113. He is unknown to you. BR has always said that there were deals going on behind the scenes and that they weren't necessarily any players that the media were portraying. These biggish players that are being banded about in your words are due to the media, not due to BR. BR is conducting himself in the "Liverpool" way and has brought dignity back to us. Maybe the newer generation of fans are too impatient in wanting the huge stars. I remember back in the day, we got Ian Rush from Wrexham as a no name and he went on to become arguably our greatest striker. Dalglish was not really well known when he came to us, Aldridge was a no name and was bought to replace Rush when Rush went to Juventus. Top talent doesn't always cost ridiculous amounts of money. The real talent is finding that top talent that are available at lower prices and picking them up at those lower prices before their price inflates astronomically.

    ReplyDelete
  114. What do you mean the so called big clubs? We have had a couple of bad seasons, that hasn't relegated us to being a smaller club. We are a big club. As the saying goes, form is temporary, class is permanent.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Yes, but van Nistelrooy also played in an inferior league and look at the player he became. Class can come from any league and regardless of the class of the league or lack thereof and in the same line of thinking, crap can come from any league regardless of the class of the league or lack thereof.

    ReplyDelete
  116. We also have Pacheco, Suso, J.Cole on the books. We will be able to field entirely different teams in the Cup games (hopefully still competitive) and keep the core players fresh.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I'm sure Allen will figure at some point in that MF.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Joe Allen was only able to join because we paid over his release cause. Technically we are not allowed to sign any Swansea players for a year so doubt this will happen as they are still smarting over the loss of Allen.

Walcott will also stay now that V. Purse-strings has moved to United.

M Philips for C. Adam is probably more realistic than C. Adam + a few bob for Dempsey. Maybe cash + loaning out a couple of fringe players such as Spearing, Pacheco and maybe Shelvey might sweeten the deal for them.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Hope this having this no money comment by BR is just a smokescreen and that we are tying up bargain deals like the latest 2.4 million deal.

    ReplyDelete
  120. You'd end up with roughly 4-4-2 diamond. Narrow, but would be a good idea to dominate the midfield, especially against bigger teams.
    -----Back four-----------Lucas-------Allen--------Sahin-----Gerrard-------------------Suarez---Borini------------

    ReplyDelete
  121. I heard Arsenal has convinced Sahin to snub us for Cl football.

    Massive SHIT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. There's no sense of dejection in this signing for me! The guy may not be a high profile signing, but he's obviously been playing to a high level in his league without any of us noticing.

There's no guarantee that Tello or Ramirez are any better individually than him, nor that any of them would've been better for our team - especially when you consider the fees involved, and the fact that we'd just be developing Tello on behalf of Barcelona

    ReplyDelete
  123. Are you referring to a comment that I made waaay before the signing was made and the article was updated to reflect that fact? Oh yeah

    ReplyDelete
  124. The only teams I can remember playing successfully without any width were AC Milan and Brazil, with their "magic square" formation.

I prefer the conventional idea of trying to stretch opposition defences with width in the final third, rather than trying to emulate systems that depended on great players all over the pitch to be successful

  126. Suddenly im having a deep sense of disgust for Arsenic Winger.

  127. Is Gaston Ramirez really signing for Southampton?!? Wow. Snubs LFC and Spurs for a newly promoted club because they offered him €2m a year! I hope for his sake he's not playing in the Championship next season!!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Sahin is the defensive midfielder we require. He can player there, deep lying playmaker, left back...

Oh, and he's superb! As good as any of our midfield 3.

    ReplyDelete
  129. You can't snub somebody that doesn't make an offer for you...

    ReplyDelete
  130. it's as if we're the same person, just 5 minutes apart

As for me Korede from Nigeria, i believe in God and Rodgers, i know LFC will get back to their normal position and this will be a shock to all other clubs that has ridiculed us

    ReplyDelete
  135. The remking of Liverpool is whats holding us mate.  Every time we look to move forward some one rears their head to say isn't that Raheem Sterling like Barnes- or Bellamy reminds me of Rush- no couldnt be further from the case.

And your point about Aldridge replacing Rush further exemplifies an important point.  LFC is not a cloning assembly line.  It's a club with a mighty past and mightier ambition.  In order for progress LFC fans must embrace the modern game.

The modern game is one that is as much PR as on field play.  Effective sound bites, enhancing the ethos building a rapport with niche markets, winning fickle fans over.  This cannot be done with sights set on mediocre targets.

BR aimed to sign Sigurdsen and lost out leaving rivals for 4th place chuckling at our expense. then sign Allen, an unknown entity at a ludicrously inflated price.  Now Assaidi whom appears to have talent yet has humble in his beginnings at this stage mid table dutch league, winger of mediocre international standing.  My point mediocrity begets mediocrity.

Why be linked with big names only to lose out to frustrate the faithfull.  Okay you may say the true faithfull will sing loud and clear even if we were in the wrong end table at the wrong end of the season.  But seriously progress means shutting the press up, steeling the march on rivals in business as well as on the field of play.  So far second best is becoming something of an expectation.
