Bad news! LFC shafted by Spurs in the transfer market again (!)

A couple of hours ago, Liverpool put in an improved bid for Fulham striker Clint Dempsey in an attempt to head off a late surge of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. Well, it seems that Martin Jol is exacting vengeance of the Reds for allegedly 'tapping up' Dempsey as Fulham have rejected the bid.

Earlier today, Fulham accepted a £7m bid from Aston Villa, but Dempsey refused the move as he's determined to join Liverpool.

If the Reds' bid matched or exceeded Villa's, and it was still rejected, then it's definitely a display of petty vindictiveness from the West London club.

Having said that, let's hope that Liverpool are not trying to lowball Fulham at this stage of the game; just pay the money and get it over with!

Fulham reported Liverpool to the Premier League last week claiming Dempsey had been tapped up, and Jol slammed the player for speaking publicly about his wish to move on.

Dempsey grabbed 28 goals and 7 assists for Fulham and the USA last season. Jol is playing hardball, but I'm sure the Reds will prevail in the end.

The saga continues...

EDIT 1: 20:40pm

An LFC Reporter just stated the following on LFC TV:

"It's looking increasingly unlikely that Liverpool will sign anyone else before the transfer deadline. Brendan Rodgers has gone home, and Ian Ayre is preparing to leave Melwood"

EDIT 2: 21:30pm

According to The Times, Dempsey is at Spurs' training ground for a medical. What a friggin' joke.

EDIT 3: 22:30pm

Dempsey signs for Spurs. *shoots self*

  1. No but they're not going to make a huge difference to the figure (which should have been £23m not 25, my bad).

It still puts Liverpools spending way, way higher than that of Spurs, Newcastle or Everton.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Since when are wages counted amongst transfer spendings?

  3. Some truths though jamie

  5. You are assuming that LFC will struggle; you don't know that. Carroll would add nothing to the team if he was still at the club; plus, the team would have to change its style of play to accommodate him, which would hold back implemantation of Rodgers' philosophy on the field.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I agree with everything you said - it's just written in a humorous way (well to me, anyway). You're spot on.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I hope brendan doesnt get the blame fot this as i feel fsg has screwed him over.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Okay, but why then ship out Andy Carroll and not replace him....?

Don't get me wrong, im not going to defend our spending spree last season....but it seems like we have left ourselves short up front, no?

    Is that Kennys fault?

Demspey might not have been a player to rocket us up to top 4 but as it stands he would have helped no?

Tbh its beginning to piss me off how Kenny is being held responsible for our woes, there seems to be a lot of agenda driven revisionism about last and how CHAD were behind our downfall....well thats just fcuking bollocks IMO, there is a lot more to our demise than just Kenny and CHAD, there are other players at the Club who were IMO very much responsible for our demise yet we don't want to confront that rather awkward truth for some strange reason.

Much easier to just blame Kenny and CHAD....

    Sad.

  9. Not signing a recognised stricker will be Liverpool downfall. Somebody is enept at Liverpool and again this season will be written off.

    ReplyDelete
  10. No, don't worry Kenny will get the blame....

  11. I watched us struggle to beat a poor Hearts team last night. Nothing has changed, we still cant put the ball in the net, Borini has done nothing so far for me to think he can be a great for Liverpool although I will give him time before writing him off, Suarez is still crap in front of goal, Reina is still making a costly mistake per game, we arent keeping the ball any better than last season and we are still hitting the post.NOTHING HAS CHANGED. How does reducing the number of recognised strikers we have make sense? What happens if Suarez has a melt down again and gets banned? Borini takes over playing down the middle and he gets injured...then what. Morgan? I have high hopes for him but hes not ready yet. Rodgers said himself he needed at least 3 strikers. Not replacing Carroll is a decision that will come back to bite us.

    ReplyDelete
  12. And rightly so!!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Haha yes indeed, keep blaming the wrong people, thats the Liverpool Way....

  14. Dnt b so silly mate you havent a clue wat goes on behind the scene. It was fsg screwd Rodgers. Its fans like you that are costing our club dearly.

  15. check all my posts then u will notice wat my offer was, 6 mil.
stop crying over spilt milk. if u have any complaints then write to liverpool fc lol

    ReplyDelete
  16. I am dismayed we are short up front and AC has been loaned out to West Ham.
We now have only 2 recognised strikers in Suarez and a chap called Borini neither whom I would call prolific mind you neither was AC but he gave us options up front.
The arrogance that LFC have displayed is astounding only time will tell if this turns out be a costly mistake.
With Adam, Sold Spearing loaned Maxi has gone Bellamy gone we are playing a game of Russian roulette.
Ian Ayre needs to answer questions I feel that we are in for a torrid season.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Let me just make this clear for any simpletons on here who still don't get it...

KENNY IS NOT TO BLAME FOR OUR FAILURE TO SIGN CLINT DEMPSEY TODAY, EITHER BR IS OR FSG ARE....

This is what happens when you tap up a player, piss off that Club, then embarrass yourself by the offer you make....and leave yourself short of attacking players....

I don't recall Kenny doing that...

    ReplyDelete
  18. He did bugger all at the Euros, apart from one good goal. I saw him lose out to Pirlo in the air twice, and that alone was enough to illustrate what a load of rubbish he can be. Even if he was the best out of the England lot of strikers (which I disagree with), the standard was hardly high. Found 'form', a few decent games compared to the utter rubbish he served for the bulk of his Liverpool career is hardly what I call finding his 'form'. For £35m, he has been utter garbage to date and that is including his 'form' games. I tell you what is disgusting, for me, is the so-called 'form' he showed at the end of the season is somehow good enough for this club. It simply isn't. He simply isn't a top level player, never was and never will be, with his level of movement and technical ability. £35m Duncan bloody Ferguson and even than, he is a pussy cat compared to the Scot. Yep, we still need a third striker and for only that reason would I have entertained having Carroll in a Liverpool shirt longer but to be honest, that is just desperation for depth up front talking, rather than a compliment about Carroll. Absolute disgrace, the amount of money we spent on rubbish in the last two seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  19. sorry diagree. kenny spent 30 mil net to build his team out of everything said and done. inflated prices or not. only 30 mil net. BR has spentat least 25 mil net and yet its kennys fault.

    Pull the other one !!!

  21. For us not signing Clint Dempsey...?

    I don't think so...

    ReplyDelete
  22. So so disappointed with FSG and Ian Ayre you have gambled big time. Don't us fans blame Brendan Rodgers if we struggle now for goals.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I still blame Kenny. I also blame him for the $19m worth of maple syrup that was stolen from a Canadian warehouse yesterday. Oh, and for the crappy weather we've had over the last couple of days.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think it's more to do with you being convinced that FSG would sanction a deal for the right player Jamie when others predicted the reality.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Who knows what the reality is. I still think the money was there, but Rodgers decided not to spend it as he didn't agree with Dempsey's valuation (similar to the Sigurdsson situation). I'm sure Rodgers will confirm that in the next press conference.

Of course, if that's the case, I disagree with BR's stance as 6m for Dempsey is a frickin' bargain, but what can you do...?

    ReplyDelete
  26. What am I saying? How can I blame Kenny when my default position is to blame Rafa for everything? I blame Benitez!

  29. I said a few weeks back that Americans are stingy and wont properly invest if it looks like they will be out of pocket. The Glaziers are the PERFECT EXAMPLE! Ask any utd fan.

We have trimmed the wage bill granted. But, we have lost a lot of experience and in my opinion have not replaced it. I got slated by many people for saying this, so...Ask yourself this before slating me again. Im not against anyone here. I just see things as i see them.

How any players did we lose? How many did we bring in? If we were to lose 2-3 players in midfield/forwards during winter would we suffer? Have we got sufficient strength in depth to cope? If not, why? We've lost an enormous amount of money from the wage bill. So were has it gone?

Henderson, Allen, Gerrard, Shelvey, Sahin, Cole and Lucas currently make up our midfield. Gerrard, Cole, Lucas(im afraid now) are all liabilitys for fitness. That leaves long term players such as Henderson, Allen, Shelvey and (hopefully)Sahin. If nobody else sees that as mid table i really do think our fan base has gone mad.

We are a mid table club now.

I'm not entirely annoyed by us not getting Dempsey. Just by the lack of effort by our owners to show a bit of arsehole during this window to get us back up to 4th or there abouts.

I guess the only plus point of all this is BR has shown how ruthless he can be whilst still getting performances from players. Though its a long season. He must know how dire our financial situation is and has kept it under wraps like a certain red nose twat has.

I also like him. I don't think he's put a foot wrong since being in charge. I couldnt give a monkeys what the media think of what he says and how he goes about his business. Hes the only the manager ive been willing to give time to since Rafa took over Houllier.

I always said the club was finished when Rafa went and i dont believe anything has changed in the last couple of years to change that. He went because our owners wanted to keep hold of the club and a few mis guided dick heads in the dressing room couldnt see past their own noses helped it along. When player power rules your clubs fucked.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes, thats more like it, Benitez did take the syrup, but even i couldn't blame him for the weather...

Now THAT would be stretching it somewhat...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Kenny did NOT take the syrup okay...?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Kenny shipped out the players worth selling and left us with players we couldnt sell. That much has been obvious since the window opened. So yes, he is to blame along with Comolli.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Kenny shipped out the players worth selling and left us with players we couldnt sell. That much has been obvious since the window opened. So yes, he is to blame along with Comolli.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thats because we paid over the odds for them. Dont believe me. Why cant we sell them?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Rafa was/is an arrogant egotistical vengeful character who pissed off quite a few players at the Club, thought he was bigger than the Club after we rather fortuitoudsy won the CL, had those dick heads as you call them hadn't played in that final we would have lost....same goes for the FA CUP final that we were losing against West Ham...

Your obviously fond of the man, but please try to see the whole picture not just the one painted by Rafa and his ardent followers...

There's 2 sides to every story you know...

    ReplyDelete
  36. In the press conferences today BR had a smug smile when asked about Dempsey, Walcott and Sturridge. I think he has tried to change the team too quickly and left us with a threadbare squad and only one experienced striker.

Rodgers is sinking fast in my estimation. We have 2 class players and 3 or 4 good players. CL is already beyond us with these players and the teams at the top have widened the gap again from last season by buying quality.

Allen seems like a decent buy but the others all unknown players with potential. We need more than that.

We are stuck in a viscious circle. Without CL money and prestige we wont attract CL quality players. Our better players will have their heads turned and who can blame them. Rodgers and FSG are making us a laughing stock.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, we all know how domd Benitez is of 'mountains of sugar', so he's the obvious suspect.

  38. It wasnt ok for Rafa to sell Keane without a replacement. It left us short when we were well placed to win the league.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well 6m is a lot less than the figure I had in mind when we were first linked so yes a bargain and a player of commercial value too. Rodgers is unlikely to say exactly what happened but surely the financial negotiations wouldn't be down to him anyway.
I can live with us standing our ground over valuations but we should never have left ourselves in a position of weakening our attacking options when it was so obvious it needed strengthening.

    ReplyDelete
  40. How important now is sundays game? we play a blinder and win, with morgan coming on and scoring and all will be ok again.

What im saying is, with the lack of signings today, the pressure is now on sooner, i think if we had signed a few people would have said the team needs to gel blah blah blah.

Now tho if we dont start winning asap the discontent will grow massively so soon

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't even think we had any intentions of signing anyone today tbh, just doesn't add up, 6 mil is not beyond FSG, its almost like they're saying right, we've brought in signings that we needed, we'll suggest that there will be others perhaps on deadline day, Dempsey being the fall guy, the fanbase gets excited...and then nothing happens...

Thus the debate is set....those players still at the Club like Hendo Downing Cole will become the reason we couldn't buy anyone else, same goes for Carroll because he is only on loan and wouldn't be sold....therefore no money...

The cynic in me is thinking that this was all just a ruthless ploy to underline our apparent "issues.." or obstructions, the main culprit being Kenny....

And so we must now "soldier" on, BR will get sympathy by some for being "left with the shite.." others will blame him...or they will start turning on FSG....

What i will say is that we are putting a hell of as lot of faith in man who has so far shown very little in terms of actual success as a manager, Swansea have had a cracking start to the new season as well so it really does remain to be seen if we have actually put all our egg's into 1 basket and must now hope to God that the wheels don't fall off.

An injury to Suarez for instance could spell disaster, its definitely a high risk game that we're playing here IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Really. Like what exactly? Please feel free to digress a little instead just attacking my post with rhetorical nonsense.

He was right to only offer Carragher a years extension. His mistakes in his opening two starts last season cost us two games. Rafas decision was the right one. He should never have made the bench last season.

What have the players that developed an atittude problem gone on to do since?

Gerrard in my opinion should have been sold at the end of the 08-09 season. You DO NOT hold onto players for sentimental reasons unless they can still do a job and play for the benefit of the team.

If your an example of the anti Rafa brigade. Then god help this club.

People like you only found your voice towards the end of the 08-09 season when we come second to utd. Why, i cant fathom at all. We had a front line that consisted of Torres, Gerrard and N'Gog. Utd had Tevez, Ronaldo and Rooney.

We never had a squad deep enough to last a European and Premier league campaign. The sooner you realise this the better.

You just couldnt let it lie and when things went wrong the following season the blades went in.

He like any other top manager was ruthless in the way he treated his players. If any player isnt pulling his weight or is surplas they go. Its simple. He's far from without his faults ill give you that. But, i have absolutely no doubt that he did everything with the clubs best interests at heart.

If it was a straight choice between where the club is now and how it was in his last season. Id take his team over this one anyday of the week.

The fact remains, the owners knew he was a pest and used that bad season as an excuse to get rid. Knowing that the owners never had any intention of selling only proves this.

Look at the big picture? I think i have pal. Over to you.

  43. The problems will start over xmas when the injuries kick in mate.

    ReplyDelete
  44. If we do get Owen try and get Heskey as well and let the good times roll....

    ReplyDelete
  45. PS, Sorry couldnt let this lie. You thought he thought he had become bigger than the club itself? If thats the case, then why does he still live in Liverpool? If he didnt care about the city he wouldnt be here. Its certainly not the food and weather thats kept him here. Im sorry, but i spent a large proportion arguing with misinformed twerps like during his last season and ill never forgive you for whats happened to the club since. Always thinking the grass is greener. Well, welcome to mid table mediocrity. I dont see us finishing past Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Man City, Utd and Newcastle this season. Too strong squad wise. I even think Sunderland May push us. Swansea if they keep the pace. So yeah mid tables about right for us now.

    Well done.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Kenny shipped out the players worth selling and left us with players we couldnt sell.

Leaving the new manager with less leverage.

That much has been obvious since the window opened. So yes, he is to blame along with Comolli.

Surely a self proclaimed smart arse could see that?

LITTERING YOUR POST WITH CAPITAL LETTERS DOESNT ADD VALUE TO YOUR REPLY.

  47. The manager has made it clear who he wants to go. But nobody wants them all. Last years transfers(barring suarez n enrique) were a f ing disaster plain and simple.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lol, please stop you'll have me in tears, poor Rafa eh? Always the victim.....

I don't agree with hardly anything you've written, and as i said there are 2 sides to this particular story.....

Clearly you are on Rafa's side, i on the other hand am steadfastlly on the side of said certain players that you labelled "short sighted dick heads..."

I will tell you straight up that i started having reservations re Rafa after the CL win, it wasn't only the 08/09 season....

Believe it or not i actually think Rafa did do some good things whilst at the Club, but what has happened after he VERY reluctantly left is very much down to a certain legacy he left behind in the form of certain admiring and sympathetic players/friends of his.....Undermining the efforts of Gerrard & Co to move the Club forward....

    ReplyDelete
  49. My reply to this is further down this page.

  50. Lets be honest and direct - Liverpool just don't have the funds. Period. So, they had no feasible option but to take the risky bet of "take it or leave it". Of course then you have Spurs who seems to be going after targets of LFC and these are players who are not top top targets like van Persie. Sure gives the impression they are following LFC's scouts.

But of course, Spurs is entitled to do that. Whether we finish in top 6 or not we will still and support Liverpool. Its gonna be a re-building period that we need to go through and I still believe Brendan is the right person for the job. Like everything else, there are always lows and highs and now is the low before the high.

And please stop taunting LFC supporters for living in the past. At least Liverpool has a glorious past to live on which not many clubs have but all true LFC supporters know that the club need to move forward. We are realist.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah and both Suarez and Enrique were great last season weren't they...

    Did'nt underperform at all....

    ReplyDelete
  52. I hate to burst bubbles here, but the belief by - what appeared to be - the majority of red fans over the past few weeks was that Dempsey - and Fulham - should be grateful that LFC had expressed an interest, is a perfect example of thinking above one's station.
Liverpool have a great history, but that's all it is, nothing more, and the belief in 'King' Kenny just provides further proof that there will always be fans - from any club - that live firmly in the past.
Blame FSG all you like, the truth is that KD overspent on players that didn't pay it back, and so FSG are being sensible, albeit they should have handled it a lot better than they did.
They tapped up Dempsey without asking Fulham permission, simple as that, and if Jol did exact vengeance for that mistep, then I applaud him, perhaps next time Liverpool will remember they need to play on the same field as the rest of those teams, and unsettling players is not the right way.
Sorry they stuffed you on your new stadium, but to believe that a group buying out a club that is almost in liquidation will pump endless funds into it, is taking dreams that little bit too far.

  56. jaimie your right on!!! fsg is apart of one of the highest paying teams in america with the red sox. to think they dont have the money is obscured and everyone knows that. this has to be pure value accessed by br's pov cause everyone would have loved to see this top class slash player, as in can play anywhere across the top three or even centrally as a sit in for stevie g. but i gotta say on this one br is wrong even though i support his cause a 180% i would of liked to think he would pay upwards to 12 on the last day. but no way no how!!! disappointed is an understatement but according to last season plus new aditions across the table, as long as we can hold off 6th place by jan... well def be in the top four

    ReplyDelete
  57. Last time I posted on here was early hours on transfer deadline day to shoot down the idea that we would go out and do something on the final day.

Looks like I called that one. Not hard though, considering how this club is run.

I can't believe the response to Liverpool's worst league season for more than half a century was to weaken the squad.

Liverpool need someone to give a clear blueprint for buying and selling a la Daniel Levy.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Concerned!!! That's an understatement!!!

Where are our goals going to come from if Suarez or Gerard gets injured? The videos of Assaidi look impressive in a sh*t league, there is no way he will score bags of goals from the get go, I hope I'm wrong but it's going to take him time to settle in, I heard that you need about 70 goals to make champs league? So starting line up and league goals per person AS LONG AS NO ONE GETS INJURED looks like this I think.

    ........................Reina 0 goals

    Johnson (3 goals).....Skirtle (3goals)...Agger (2 goals)......Enrique (0Goals)

......Gerrard(10 Goals)...Allen (2 goals)...Sahin (5 Goals) (lucas will play when not injured and score no goals)

    ..........Borini (10 goals maybe)..Suarez 1(5 goals)..Assaidi (3 goals)

Subs: Cole (2 goals and that being kind), Shelvey (2goals), Downing(0 goals), Henderson (1 goal), Coates(1 goal), Flanagan(0 goals), Kelly (0 goals), Sterling(4 goals), Suso(0goals) and Morgan (4goals)

That is 67 goals right there, if we keep our team fit and buy a quality forward and winger by January (but I can't really see that happening as these guys are tighter than a nuns...) then there is a chance we can scrape into champs with our new signings getting at least 10 between them (it could happen, think of cisse at NC) but this is as long as our players stay fit and our defense continues to be one of the best in the league (and 11 men stay on the pitch) and of course Joe Cole actually scoring in the league :-/, Morgan and Sterling could score more but it will take them time to adapt to the pace of the game even though Sterling was awesome against ManC he is only 17 so wont be able to play week in and week out. Jamie can you find out how many goals and points it will take us roughly to get champs lge? As I said I am really concerned but with Gerrard/Lucas/Sahan and Allen in the middle of the park I do think we have one of the best midfields in the league and could be up within touching distance of 4th spot by Jan, but it all come down to the boys staying fit and the owners not being such tight a$$e$ come Jan.

Keeping the faith or maybe just dreaming?, fingers crossed!! YNWA

  70. Conclusion with liverpool only bidding 3 mil they were never going to get him but just went through the motions. The owners are trying to squeese money back from the club and has given the manager targets financially . Fact villa, and spurs can now outbid us and maybe even southampton.......

    ReplyDelete
  71. only consolation is wage bill has come down , make no mistake a target of wage bill has been set, quality or not and expect more. just surprised he never got rid of joe cole.

  72. That is why qualifying for the CL is more important than winning the FA Cup / League Cup year in year out - sure it is silverware but not taking part in the CL means no funds and no quality players - hope the people who were arguing they would take domestic cups at the expense of 4th are realising the financial reality of modern day football.

    ReplyDelete
  73. People can spin it anyway they want but when you look at things - the club has completley digressed since Rafa left.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Dempsey probably thinking - LFC made it clear they wanted me, they bid for me, and FSG even put me on the FSG website - and they think I'm worth less than half of Charlie Adam, a 1 season wonder, and you spend 35m on Carroll.....FUCK YOU LFC, I'm going to Spurs, who actually have a future.

I'd think the same, and I'm LFC mad.

It is a little disheartening that Spurs signed Dempsey.

  82. sometimes i stated weeks ago that fsg would not spend any money on transfers and were only here for the money but you defended them also asked you about selling the justice for the 96 shirts for profit twice to which you did not reply how many home games do you think the yanks will attend this season not a lot the honeymoon is over these guys are as bad as the last even you cannot defend how much they have depleted squad if we lose to arsenal on sunday i fear the revolution will begin yanks out omg havent we been here before why we got a chelsea banker to sort out our next owners was beyond me in the first place..f13king hell were talking about dempsey here not messi imo we are fast becoming the laughting stock of british football champions league your having a laught we wount even make europa this season the football this season in 5 out of 6 of the competative matches we have played as been some of the worst ive seen in my life time ynwa

  84. We never payed a loan fee for Sahin and are only paying 30% of his wages......The reality is we have released players who most on this site have been calling crap for 12 months ....The reality is nobody expects Liverpool to have a chance ,so perhaps it takes the pressure off .....Say we signed Dempsey and it was another Charlie Adam ( good player small club ) We would all be calling FSG idiots....The REALITY IS we spent 100 million on about 5 millon pounds worth of player you can hardly call FSG THATS UNLESS YOU WANT US TO GET IN HOCK AND GO LIKE RANGERS AND CO ....My advice take your head out of the sand and enter the real world ..a world which has cash flow ,tax bills , and P & L and get behing Rodgers

  90. Thank you! Maybe after the season if the Carroll loan deal becomes permanent plus a season without paying some of those wages they got off the books plus FSG clearing $250 million of bad contracts off the Red Sox payroll means next summer they can make a big splash (Cavani for example) Even in the best case scenario Dempsey probably doesn't get us into the top 4 anyways so may as well save the money.

People on this site have been clamoring for the younger talent to get in the game and now here's their chance. Save your best squad for the League games and the FA Cup and use the other games to give guys like Morgan, Suso, Coady, Flanaghan, Robinson, Texieria etc etc a run on the first team. Rodgers did wonders with youth players at Swansea so lets roll the dice. I agree we're still light up top but with Carrol riding the bench all season his value will only continue to drop so getting rid of him now helps stop that bleeding and helps the team move on past that mistake.

The team is clearly reorganizing but after a really good performance against City all of a sudden we're a striker away from the top 4? Please...

    ReplyDelete
  91. we are 2 strikers away from the top 4.
These yanks need to leave football. Look at United, at least their owner are not scared to be in the red, as they know that goals mean MONEY. Van Persie, Rooney, dont come for cheap. We want little Dempsey, for 6m, and they cant even come up with that?? OK SO you dont give a shit about the fans, like the previous yanks, but dont the sponsors have a voice at all??? Fuck this

  93. well i did question that deal

  94. Too be honest lfc & BR have been shafted by king kenny for wasting millions and the owners who could not get us one F****** goalscorer which is even obvious to my mom who cannot even spell football. Considering im an indian and been watching liverpool for over 27yrs..... i have to finally hestitate and say "Ya Allah" we need some arab money asap, otherwise the yanks will put us in a right state. The owners promise money as and when needed and due to Kenny's wasteful millions would not have an affect on BR's transfer budget. BR clearly said the other day the team is thin and we need a few players, especially a striker. FUCKING BUNCH OF LIARS AGAIN. Who's that chelsea scum who influenced our sell to the yanks. Good work Lfc why not sell the club to the mittal's or middle east. Money talks theses days and do u wanna enjoy the present like chelsea & man city or wait another 20 years to see if we can win the league. Dont get me wrong deep down wanna do it like man utd have done it but that it is some fairytale. Look at the buzz around man city and can u imagine if we had the open cheque to go with the history. You have to live for the day who knows what will happen tmw......and im approaching 40 with kids.

  95. steven, listen to the oracle that is, sven. the old lothario actually hits the nail on the head, for once. go, go and win yourself the title elsewhere. your loyalty (and massive wage packet, though i don't begrudge you that at all, after the way you have kept us afloat so, so many times), is unquestionable, however, i don't think any rue fan would shout you down if you decided to move on. the frustration with the ineptitude of others around you must make you feel like screaming. i am not at the club daily, and the amateur mis-management of the club, makes me want to do that. if you had left 2 years ago, i wouldn't have blamed you. we are a laughing stock, even lads i know, who support teams from outside the premier division, take the pi*s at how cr*p the club conducts itself. you stick with your club through thick and thin and i always will, i will be at every game, the same as every season...............but i do look at other clubs and wonder how, behind the scenes, we attract so many idiots and bufoons, when others seem to roll along relatively bomb scare free!?!?!?

  96. nice one buddy please include wages. want to get a realistic picture.

    ReplyDelete
  97. The man to blame 100% is the supposed king kenny. His legacy is shafting us royally. Don't start blaming FSG, they backed the last regime and it bit them badly.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Hope you got the sarcasm

    ReplyDelete
  99. What is your source please for no loan fee and 30% of his wages (Sahin) bit? Highly doubt in this day and age that there would be no loan fee for a player like Sahin.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Seems that the big initial loan fee meant the buy-out fee would be lower, if we want him permanently. Risky.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Spent 30m got 5.5 for aquilani, 1m for Kuyt, 1.5m loan fee Carroll and some scraps for others but Maxi, Bells etc went for nothing. However, main saving is on wages Aqua, Bells, Maxi and Carroll all on huge wages which have been halved with the new guys, those 4 alone going will save us 10m a year.

Reality is FSG putting very little in, it depends on what you want to believe if that is because they don't have any money or simply don't want to spend it.

What will happen is though that we will be nowhere near top 4 and they will sack Rodgers at the end of the year and start the process again only with someone even cheaper.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Lets just hope Brendan is allowed to say what exactly took place. Considering we fund the club with the merchandise and ticket sales we have the right to know what happened and deserve to know. Obviously we probably won't be told and we will all be considered like sheep who will follow irrespective of what happens. Let's just see what transpires. I can understand the ethos of a self sustaining club spending what it earns but and i hasten to say but when the competition are not following this ethos the playing field is not level and we will not compete and again the champions league nights will not be returning to Anfield and all the cash that comes with it. FSG where is the new stadium or redeveloped Anfield? Still waiting, ur still stalling, we are not blind nor stupid and FSG are starting to slip down the slope the previous owners (scumbags) did. Remember FSG you are only custodians of a Club that is Funded and loved by the Fans. Without Us ur investment will decrease as quickly as the fans respect for the previous owners did.

    ReplyDelete
  103. We are I think 4th in the wage bill league for PL. The net spend since FSG arrived is higher than the likes of Spurs and Arsenal, in this period. After the stupidity in the transfer market by KK and Comolli, financial legacy from during Rafa's reign, pathetic league finishes & no CL income, expect more of this frugality. FSG backed KK and Comolli, which backfired and now its hardly surprising after that failure, they are being more frugal this season and possibly rightly so. That aside, having only two first team squad strikers (not counting the puppy that is Morgan) is not on.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Change what stance? What are you on about?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Even if Carroll had stayed ...would he have made any difference....i would rather play Skrtel up front than Carroll and i bet you he'd out do Carroll id he had the same number of games up front....

    ReplyDelete
  106. So... no deadline day signings.

That is a pity! But, on the up side - we still have blossoming youth players, just means we'll see more of Morgan, plus we have Ngoo and Texeira.

But now also, I think it would be a good time to take a certain Michael Owen back!!! He's a free agent and can still sign for any club (apparently). Now I know some of you LFC fans out there will be saying firmly "NO" to that, but Mikey would be a good move. Stevie G and Owen are sill the best of friends, anybody who read Gerrards book will know how highly Stevie spoke of Michael. So if anything it will be a great move to get some extra spirit out of Stevie - and Michael for that matter.

In the book Stevie spoke of how painful it was to see Owen and Danny Murphy leave...

I'm all for it, I've always had a soft spot for Owen. He's a proper striker too... which we need! Goals Goals Goals! Great experience to have around for the younger strikers, has played in Spain and For Liverpool, so can do the whole pass and move well, not sure of his closing down though.

Ok Jk this last part is for you...

Owen has one of the highest goal scoring tallies of Liverpool players (top 10 i believe)... whats more impressive is that his goals to minutes ratio is even higher up a similar list (not sure of the exact facts but you can check it if you like - top 5 I believe). Yes, he's gotten older, but he's played at a number of different clubs and comes with loads of experience!

It'll be a homecoming of epic proportions! Rafa brought Robbie back... I think LFC fans can forgive Michael for joining Man U with time.

    Me... I already have!
Apologies if you lividly disagree but this is my opinion!
You'll Never Walk Alone Michael Owen!

  107. It's Gicks and Hillett all over again

    ReplyDelete
  108. i'd take him as cover. ok, he soiled himself when he signed for the dark side, and he didn't endear himself when he stuck two fingers up to benitez when he signed for madrid (bad move mick, remember istanbul???). time moves on and now he is an injury plagued, free agent. if we offered him a year contract, he would have more of a chance to get a game, rather than at stoke or sunderland( assuming he stays injury free). out of all the mid table clubs, that are rumoured to be after him ( as mentioned above), surely he would choose ours!?!?!? (and after yesterday, i include us in that catagory).

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'm actually keen on Owen coming back. He'd be great for the youngsters and would do a job for 12-18 months. Forget for a minute he was at utd, what are people's thought? Jamie?

    ReplyDelete
  110. Great post mate, but you will find a lot of objection to Owen returning, personally i loved the guy and still blame Rafa for his departure, he wasn't wanted and it was made clear to him.....

Wasn't the only player who was unsettled by that monstrosity of a manager either, i absolutely loved Cisse as well, but Rafa saw to it that he would leave also...

Im with you all the way, BRING BACK MICHAEL OWEN!!!

    ReplyDelete
  111. As i said the man is an egocentric maniac who thought he was much bigger than the Club, traeted certain players like shit and got his just rewards...

Never want to see that ape of a man back at the Club again.

Btw i have replied to your long diatribe but it seems Jamie doesn't want to post it......

Its been flagged for 12 hours for review...LOL what a fcuking joke!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. They've been open for some time mate, very open....

    ReplyDelete
  113. i'm not a benitez defender normally, but owen had made his mind up that he was off. he wanted a realistic chance of winning leagues and champions lges. as rafa would say, that is a FACT!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Agreed...

I loved Rafa, but he was very impersonal - cold and calculated. Players we're just pieces on a chess board to him... that is not the Liverpool way.

LFC is traditionally run like a family.

Anyway, Michael will be sore to the fact that he missed out on the Champions League trophy with Liverpool, not to mention EPL title... So he'll definitely have the hunger and surely the goals to go with it. Gerrard was a king at picking out Michael!

It's only fair that he gets to throw his boots into the kop at the end of his career... besides, Owen is not quite yet a LFC legend... I'd like to see him achieve that status.

    GET HIM IN THERE!

    ReplyDelete
  115. liverpool have stilll shelled out 25 million on two players in borinii and allen ...yes we have got rid of players but they where either over the hill or vastly overpriced at point of purchase .....anyway rodgers system is not dependent on strikers its dependent on possession....would dempsey really make that much difference and if so at the expense of who...STERLING ....our best player to date ....its about time we found out if the acadamy lads can hack it ..if not get rid....i think its a breath of fresh air and am looking forward to see if Morgan and the new German lad can cut it instead of watching overrated over-payed players bleed the club dry.......

    ReplyDelete
  116. Owen had stated that, his leaving had nothing to do with benetiz. Still dont think we should bring him back give youth a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Mitzsu thats the most sensible post I've seen from you fair play I gave you you stick on previous ones but credit were its due. I think maybe this is fsg's way of saying the fans asked for kenny and look where that got us, so they do what you describe above.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Finally, someone who sees how wrong and stupid the Kop were for bowing to their 'hero', a man so blinkered by his own importance that he backed Suarez even when it was all over.
You want someone to blame, blame Kenny, he continued where Gillet/Hicks left off.

  119. Never mind, you missed my point completely.

  120. Scored, what, two goals? What's so great about that?

Showed an improvement in form? Well after a year and a half it was about time.

    ReplyDelete
  121. We were talking about transfer net spend not the clubs overall annual outlay for which wages, you brought it up despite it not being a relevant part of the particular discussion, so don't get snippy with me just because you injected an unrelated point.

    ReplyDelete
  122. surely he z going to break liverpool fans heart by scoring 15-20 goals while liverpool struggle to find back of the net 2nd consecutive time..the true is we will once again going to rock the possession in large part of league this season but we won't find the target unless decent goal scorer.i'm a die hard fan in where lack football plays in country but i have to speak the truth & realty that is LIVERPOOL WON'T QUALIFY FOR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2013/14.that's going to break my heart.

    ReplyDelete
  123. BR said he needed at least 3 strikers. Window has shut and now we only have 2. I think there's no chance BR would have let carroll go on loan if he knew we wouldn't get anyone in. He was saying after the carroll move he'd be given as much confidence as he could possibly have that he would be getting someone in. Liverpool should have signed Dempsey. And I honestly believe that any blame on this must go to Ayre/FSG. Really clever - sanction 35mil on a player that has only a half season EPL experience, sanction 20mil on a very average player in Downing, About 8mil on Adam, and about 20mil on Hendo. To put that in perspective Liverpool could have signed Aguero/LLorente/Cavani/Hazard (35mil), Walcott/Schurrle/Sturridge/Cazorla/or maybe muniain (under 20 mil), Dempsey (for price of Adam), and say swap a promising Hendo for someone like G.Ramirez, Oscar, Vertonghen or someone like that. FSG you have shafted us with you're utter lack of Footballing knowledge. They're the idiots that actually payed up the stupid amounts of money last season. It was from their pockets. One season on they let go 3 important player in Kuyt, Bellamy and Maxi, along with Adam, Spearing, Aquilani and Carroll on loan....Sounds good right...Selling a few squad players with perhaps the promise of improving on them? They then Bring in Allen, Borini, Assaidi (who?) and oh wait.. no one else. FANTASTIC. We've basically just weakened the squad from last year. Bellamy/or even Kuyt would be more valuable than borini this season (because he's young and will take time to settle). Only upgrade has been Allen, and he didn't even cost a whole pile. However we've basically got rid of 1/4 or 1/5 of the squad. I was delighted with the Br appointment, but can safely say all optimism has subsided due to utter stupidity in the market. FSG want profits and want Liverpool competitive. Well i reckon if Liverpool don't get back to the CL in the next 2 seasons they'll lose a hell of a lot for numerous reasons. 1. CL brings in much money, 2. Who the wants to sponsor a mid-table team (bye bye the likes of Chyrsler), 3. Not much chance of growing the international fanbase of a club that are simply sh*t. YOU HAVE TO SPEND MONEY TO MAKE MONEY FSG! *one disgruntled fan*

  126. Errrrr no?????? Players like Torres and Mereiles. 60 million betwren them. I think thats enough dont you?

    ReplyDelete
  127. Certain players like who? Alonso and Hyypia are the only two i had issue with. The rest were no longer willing to play for the shirt and go riddance too. Where did i say i wanted him back? I said he should never have been sacked. Once that happened his authority was challenged and theres no going back. Maybe you should stick to the subject matter and not personal insults. Posts tend to get through a little easier.

    ReplyDelete
  128. You completely missed the simple point i was making. That if we were to sell any of the players signed last year. Those two are the only ones we could realistically get near or the actual amounts paid for them. Its not got nothing to with the players performance. But, their monetary value in real terms. Someone as smart as you could see that no??

They told Parry to get him in as manager. By the time Rafa was appointed Owen had made his mind up to leave. Christ, if your going to dislike someone at least get your facts right as to why.

  134. Listen son if you buy two players for 5 million on a 5 year contact pay one 40k a week and another 200k, On a yearly basis you are spending and budgeting around 3 milion for one and 13 milion for another. When you buy a player you must budget for his wage. So talking overal transfer spending is irrelevent with talking wage. Hence open yoour eyes mr snappadoodle lol

    ReplyDelete
  135. correction without talking wage.
