'We've wasted money' - Unhappy John Henry slams LFC's transfer policy...

Liverpool FC principal owner John W. Henry is not a happy man. In a chance meeting with a Liverpool fan in the City centre earlier this week, Henry allegedly revealed his dissatisfaction with Kenny Dalglish's British signings, and slammed the team's woeful performance against Fulham on Tuesday night.

Hymy Fisher - a Liverpool fan who does the LFC 'Fanzone' commentary on Sky Sports - relayed the story of his impromptu meeting with Henry on Liverpool-based radio station 'City Talk' this morning.

John Henry

As you can see, City Talk specifically referenced the Henry story on their Twitter feed this morning. During the 'Fan Friday' segment, Fisher stated the following:

* He bumped into Henry in Liverpool City Centre earlier in the week. To prove it, he posted a photo on the City talk twitter feed (@CityTalk1059):

John Henry

* John W Henry asked him: "Have you ever seen a game as bad as the Fulham game last night"

* Fisher admitted that he couldn't remember seeing a worse game.

* Henry responded: "Makes you realise just how much money we've wasted"

* According to Fisher, Henry then went on to talk about the money wasted on British players (though he didn't name names)

* Fisher then defended Dalglish, arguing that he'll get it right if he gets time.

* According to Fisher, Henry then changed the subject, and went over to meet Hymy's wife and young children.

Initially, I was skeptical about this 'story', so I called City Talk and spoke with one of the Producers, who confirmed that:

* Hymy Fisher was on the show this morning.
* He spoke about his meeting with John Henry live on air.
* He said everything I've detailed above.

I then spoke to the City Radio Newsdesk, and again, they confirmed Fisher's on-air comments, but admitted they were not going to run the story.

So there you go. It appears that John Henry is extremely dissatisfied with the way things are going at Liverpool right now, and so he should be. Tens of millions of pounds have been wasted on the wrong players, and the Fulham game the other night was indicative of the club's atrocious league season.

It's good to see that the Owner of the club does not have his head buried in the sand.

  4. Bit of a non story Jaimie, slaughtering Dalglish again though!!! Henry will give him another year deal with it!

  5. Why is it 'bollocks'? Fisher is an LFC fan; why would he lie? Why would City Radio confirm something that wasn't true? Lots of other fans heard the show this morning (just check LFC forums around the net.

  6. Why is it a non-story - because you disagree with it? If Henry had said 'Dalglish will get three more years' I doubt you'd be calling it a non-story. It's definitely newsworthy, and it's been confirmed: Henry is unhappy with LFC's performance in the transfer market. Deal with it :-)

Wasted money yes.  But the men at the top have to take responsibility.  Henry hired Comolli on the word of a Baseball Manager.  Kenny and Comolli wasted the money, yes, but Henry signed the cheques.  Hopefully he has educated himself on the game over the last year and can be more scrupulous next time he has to sign away the clubs hard earned.

But, I will say, there were many fans who wanted Andy Carroll at the club and were happy when we signed him.  Even for 10 million, players like Carroll are not for this club, period.  He scored most of his goals at Newcastle from set pieces FFS.  But people just saw 11 in 22, young, English and went from there.  People who wanted players like Downing and Carroll but now complain about wasted money should stop and think next time they jump on the "Must sign player X!" bandwagon.  Everyone is culpable, from Henry to the fans and Dalglish in between.

  10. at what point in what you've said does Henry actually, categorically state that he isn't happy with Kenny?

His statement about wasting money, focusses on how much was overpaid for players, the sums of which were not up to the manager. He simply identified his targets and Comolli paid the money and signed them.

I'm looking forward to your response to this one...:)

  11. Fair play Jaimie, you could have just deleted my comment but you responded and I salute you for it. But in the highly debatable instance that this story is true, I just don't find too much to cheer about.

If there IS truth in it, then the obvious cause for optimism would be as you've mentioned - basically, that Henry doesn't have his head in the sand like so many other people at Anfield at the moment.

But I just find it very hard to believe in the picture that's painted in the story - that Liverpool's owner was just wandering around Liverpool city centre, basically in a huff after the previous night's debacle; and then that he just happened to impart such a potentially self-indicting non sequitur as "Makes you realise how much money we've wasted" to a random member of the public.

For a man who seems to believe in the idea of keeping things under wraps until something needs to be announced, this would all seem rather contrary to his usual approach.

Let's just say that I would be very surprised if there isn't a wholehearted public show of support for Kenny in the wake of this story from Tom Werner. Naturally, this could be fobbed off as purely backing the manager before the Cup Final but reading between the lines, it'll also address Fisher's remarks.

If Henry DID say this stuff to Fisher, then I'd be worried about an owner who would be so careless with his comments. Both remarks totally undermine his manager and also belittles his Chairman's assessment that Dalglish's position is not under threat.

But like you Jaimie, I do actually hope that the story IS true.

  15. New signings, particularly young players and/or players from a club with lower expectations need time to settle in and feel confident performing at that level - whether we like it or not and no matter what the price tag.

Carroll - struggling with the expectation and burdened by the price tag - he needs time - will be much better next season and better still the season after....he's still a good few years away from his peak and has had a tough two years personally and a tough 18 months at LFC. He is still one for the future and should not be dismissed out of hand. Service to him has not been great  - he needs to attack balls not have them dropped right onto his head froma fairly static position. (Am still at a loss to understand why this hasn't been resolved by Kenny, Clarke & co...)

Henderson - struggling with expectaion levels but has shown improvement recently - will be much better next season, although he may well get less game time. Massive potential and will come good.

Adam - struggling with the level of expectation and in my opinon not good enough for LFC - we should sell to whoever will take him.

Downing - struggling with the level of expectation, but will get better next season....has shown glimpses of quality, next season or never for him....

Enrique - one of the most consistent left backs in the prem this year and proven to be a sound aquisition.

Kenny needs another season in order to be judged fairly. Whilst we have been dire at times, the truth remans that we HAVE created our fair share of chances (5th highest in the prem) but we haven't taken them which is our main problem (second worst chance conversion rate in the prem).

The first rumblings of Unai Emery coming to Liverpool in the summer have been heard in Spain this week.....he has "overachieved" everywhere he has gone, and even though Valencia board were clearly not happy with him (for finishing 3rd and qualifying for CL) it could be argued that after the loss of Silva, Mata and Villa in the last 18 months or so, they too have over-achieved.

Imagine if he were to bring Soldado with him to play alongside Suarez...now that would be a dream ticket.....!!!

  16. The statement "have you ever seen a game as bad as the Fulham one" shows a clear unhappiness with the performance of the team manager included.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Whether he's lying or not doesn't change the fact that Liverpool have wasted millions ever since Rafa was there. It has just continued to the present. They should have a top-3 team, and they have a top-10 one.

    Hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  18. well if this is real, at last we have some good news, henry realizing how much we've wasted our money, plus he never said anything positive when fisher defended dalglish, but how could he ffs? fisher did terribly wrong there he should of blasted dalglish not defend him but im happy henry changed the subject which means he doesnt agree with it, so this is a light at the end of tunnel and hopefully his mind is to sack kenny but after the cup final, its a pity henry and werner know little about football thats why they trusted dalgish and comolli for this job and they saw now they did nothing but wasting money, so i hope they've learned during this year they obviously watched football more so they could see what players we need what not but still they know very little about it so they got to bring a quality manager so he could do this job and finally get the right players.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Kenny Dalglish will never get it right in his second reign as LFC manager!

    Even three
games before the end of the current premier league campaign Kenny Dalglish and
the players he has personally chosen for the current season continued to
embarrass and humiliate the LFC’s fans in all over the world.  We, the LFC’s fans in all over the world,
just hope that Kenny Dalglish will realize that he cannot continue to be LFC’s
manager any longer and will step down at the end of the season.  Additionally, the game against Fulham was
another resonant message to the Principal Owner John W. Henry and Chairman
Thomas Werner that as they can protect the LFC sponsors’ investments and as
    they can transubstantiate
their promise to the LFC fans in all over the world when they were buying LFC
that they would make LFC a title contender team again they must appoint a world
class manager for the new season!

  20. you're reading between the lines. Clarity is where someone is straightforward...e.g. "Kenny hasn't done the job"

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would have to agree with John Henry, it has been a waste of money. I dont hate Kenny or part of this critise kenny. I am one of those who will say it hasn't worked maybe he should step down. I am a big fan of Sterling and i think fans been crying out to see him in 1st team selection week in week out. That has not happened instead we waste time on these unfit to play for liverpool players who to me are rubbish.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Enrique has been awful since February and has shown himself to be anything but consistent!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. If this story is 100% true then it's a definite backpage headline story for every tabloid in the country! Didn't you at any time stop to think why it's not in any???

Jamie I met Tom Werner and he told me that Stewart downing is not crap he's better than Messi! It must be true because I'm a Liverpool supporter why would I lie? Also City Talk is a small fairly new station here in Liverpool. Radio City and Radio Merseyside (the two bigger stations with direct Links to the 3 main football clubs in Merseyside) have confirmed nothing.

    Blag story!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. the fact that Henry bypassed Fisher's comment about how Dalglish should be given more time, speaks volume for me. I'm hopin gthe snub of that comment was because Henry disagreed with it and decdied to keep schtum until he sacks Dalglish in the summer. I'm probably reading too much into it, but i am desperate for Dalglsih to be sacked.

I hope Henry smells the coffee and does the right thing - Dalglish OUT

Well done John Henry. If the owner of a multi national wants to gauge the real feelings about his business go to the grass roots, don't only ask the opinions of the managers.

    ReplyDelete
  28. For me, Carroll is simply not a Liverpool player. He is so ungainly, has no pace, over-rate in the air, no close-control, no touch, lacks energy, lacks desire, has poor positional sense, one-footed; where do I stop? Oh yeah: stupid pony tail! Why doesn't he just take up wrestling.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Rubbish, a decent manager would have us in the top 4 after that spend, plain and simple. KD has fluffed a big chance, cause no one has been consistent and 4th was up for grabs, even 3rd.
There are no excuses, you can be the loyal, patient fan as much as you like, but after that amount of cash spent, there are NO excuses.

  34. On a irrelevant note, the Newcastle chief scout confirmed they got Cabaye for £4.5m! Makes me even more annoyed with the money we have wasted :(

    ReplyDelete
  35. Agree completely! Gaston Ramirez is one who fans are screaming for and if he flopped Kenny would be hung, drawn and quartered. Its a funny old sport.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This may be a bit off topic to the article, but would anyone please get rid of Carroll? people may tell me to support some other team, well my response to that will be, YOU ALL should support LIVERPOOL FC, NOT CARROLL FC. I don't care that he is a player of LFC and so we should blindly stick by him. I support the club and the club only and whatever that is good for the club, i'll go with that. even if carroll is not sold next season, buying a new striker is a MUST, let carroll rot in the bench or something. I am just fed up with him. People saying he gonna come good, well bollocks! I don't see him bulldozing through the defense like Drogba or some other strikers do. Even Stevie G sometimes does it better! And the thing that i'm really frustrated people whining about is he not getting any service! people, please! i bet if you were the manager, you surely would not have wanted to have a striker who only relies on long balls to score goals. People blames Downing, well yes he has been poor, but you can't always expect a winger to deliver pin point cross to a player who just stands like a lamp post! even Torres who is a completely different player to Carroline, scored better headed goals through movement! God damn!

    ReplyDelete
  37. No doubt the players bought in needs to be  taken from Dalglish and the scouts need to find a few diamonds in the rough but give Dalglish until the end of the year.
I understand how badly they have performed but i do believe all the newies will improve next season .although if Downing and Adam were sold i wouldnt shed a tear.

    ReplyDelete
  38. If you were the owner and had 20-30 million to spend on players and you had a choice of trusting the decision to Kenny or Rafa - who would you choose?  The answer is obvious.  Rafa.

The sacking of Rafa was the biggest waste of money the club has ever seen (considering the cost of hiring and firing Hodgson and hiring Kenny).  All those who supported Rafa's sacking, including you, Jamie, should be ashamed of your bad judgement.

    ReplyDelete
  39. to have wasted that amount of money is criminal. All four are not good enough. Kenny often played Hendo out of position which doesn't help. One more season for Kenny and if he fails then sack him. Our league campaign has been a farce! Time to blood a few young 'uns in final two matches - give Sterling a full game for crying out loud! On the Henry story, do you really think Henry would be so candid to a fan he bumped into! Not a chance as it undermines the manager and players! Fabricated account, thats all!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I still feel once the FA cup final is over Liverpool should get a new manager, with Dalglish at the helm there will be no change in results come next season and I am sure he will go ahead and spend an awful lot of money on below average english players this summer once again.I used to think that Rafa was a bad manager but Kenny is worse, he may have had a fine record in the past but those are not going to help Liverpool in the present and no one is bigger than the club. I am sick of watching lifeless performances on the pitch and Kenny coming up with the same excuses over and over again .

    ReplyDelete
  44. Keane had 6 months, 7 starts and 28 total appearances and yet still has more goals to his name while in a liverpool shirt than andy carroll has in 18 months so who was the waste again?

    ReplyDelete
  45. You are not to blame for this story, which has clear proof of occurance,  this is what we have been waiting for, what the owners think about KD's charade. Kenny maybe getting fired soon, well tough man if he has to go he is got to go, as I always say 'no individual is greater than the club'.  He is a manager first, he has to be judged on his perfomance, which has been shameful.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi Jaimie it's Banksy. Another day another negative story, designed to undermine our club. This is now getting out of hand, this is total crap. Why do you keep this up? I have responded to your articals many times this past two weeks, the only responce I have had back was when you told me to f**K off. Tomorrow Kenny takes us into the FA Cup FInal, during the past week you have put out articals that have been provocative, negative and unsubstansiated, like this one. I just can't understand why a Liverpool supporter (as you say you are) would put out all this negative shit, just before we go into the Cup Final. The stuff you wrote about Suarez the other week was terrible, you more less said you wanted Suarez to be sacked by the club. I have not read anything from you about his hat trick at Norwich. Are you going to respond, or tell me to F***k off again.

  52.  Good article, it's what we all wanted to know, and hopefully there will be no more British players coming in. Kenny blew the one shot we had to buy real quality players with over 100
million and get rid of the average ones, but actually bought more
average players. It's the only time I can remember a manager spending
over 100 million and actually making the team worse. Carroll and
Henderson are championship players at best, and we spent over 50 million
for them alone. Liverpool have been linked to some good looking quality young foreign players
lately that seem dirt cheap compared to Carroll, Henderson or Downing
and players like that were available when he was splashing out millions
on British players.Tbh I think it all came at Kenny to fast, he was only
back managing again after years, and he didn't really have a clue what
to do, so he went with what he knew ( British )

Why go British? What really is the theory behind that?
Is Dalglish a racist? One can only think so!

  62.  As a replacement for Kenny dalgish, i would choose either Guus hiddink or second choice jose morino. Player like Caroll, Henderson, Aurelio, downing, Maxi, kuyt, Bellamy must all be sold. Liverpool must put Carra as assistant manager Players like Cavani, Lavezzi, De luuk Jong, Xavi, Ever Banega, Gaston Ramirez should be bring in.  Waiting for your opinion

    ReplyDelete
  63. "They should have a top 3 team" At least do some investigating first pal, liverpool have the 5th most expensive team, and the 6th biggest wage bill, and yet we should be 3rd?? Haha

    ReplyDelete
  64. Its no secret that we overpaid on a few of the players bought, but 90% of performances this season have been good, yet without the finishing touch we havent got the points our performances have mostly deserved.

I believe the main reasons for our poor league position are -

    1.The loss of Lucas

Lucas for the last 2 seasons was arguably our player of the year, and our current squad lacks cover for his unique ability to break up opposition play, and give the ball to the attackers, the sheer number of interceptions and tackles he makes is astounding.

    2.The Suarez stitch up

I dont care what any one says, Luis Suarez was stitched up, this lead to an 8 game ban, add to this the media frenzy, the ill feeling the whole club the fans have received and this has affected the whole team.

    3.Luck

Whether you admit it or not hitting the woodwork 31 times and the ball conveniently going out or to a defender is unlucky, add to this the fact that out of the top 15 saves of the season 9 were against us. This leads to number 4.

    4.Confidence

After mostly playing well yet hitting the bar/post, seeing goalkeepers have the games of their careers, being hated by everyman and his dog, These factors have visibly affected player confidence. A confident team will invariably play better than an unconfident one.

Add Stevie being injured for most of the first half of the season, Pepe not being his usual self with visiting keepers making worldies time and time again and you have the recipe for our failings this season.

Man Utd have spent about £60m less than you, but they have a good manager and spent reasonably wisely (unlike the idiotic purchases you lot made).

My team, Everton, have something like a spend of 25 times less than you per season.

And most of the players who did not do well under his reign were shipped out with profits, at least under benitez we were assured Champions league each season except the last one in which the prop did not wanted to invest.

  78. Many fans indeed did not want Downing and said so extensively on twitter such hat there was an article in the daily mail about how disrespectful Liverpool fans were towards an international.
There was a petition of almost 10k signatures for Mata to be signed forwarded to Henry who even joked about marching on Valencia and demanding Mata before he clarified it was not his decision to impose players on Kenny.
I am watching Blackpol v Birmingham now and wondering why Liverpool management and scouts are so intent on working against the best interest of Liverpool.
They stifle youngsters progression such that Tom Ince felt he had to go for the sake of his career and his progress is there to be seen in this game because he is he danger-man so far.
He is showing he is far better than Henderson or Downng from this showing and many other this season. then there is the San Jose who is doing brilliantly for Atletico the United conquerors and one of the 2 lads swapped for konchesky on top of the £3millon we gave away is also doing well needless to say Insua is now doing well in Portugal while Konchesky has dropped down to the championship.
How long will it be before Suso or Sterling are shining for another team while we spend £20million or more on poorer footballers.
Its very hard supporting Liverpool knowing the fans always get a raw deal but still have a significant section of the fan base endorsing this and questioning others for being pained by how we waste money.
Arsenal who have the league top scorer have already bought the prolific Podolski while United are hot on the heels of Shinji Kagawa and Chelsea have tied up Mako Marin but good old Liverpool are scratching their heads and kicking back while casually suggesting Dempsey may their man but the height of our ambition is being in the FA cup final against a now vastly better side in higher spirits.
It is really painful supporting a club intent on disappointing fans but I guess they know very well we will come back and support whatever dross they get for next season.
They know breaking up with Liverpool is harder than breaking up with a girlfriend so the take us for mugs and just pass us around to whoever disappoints us next as we finish 9th or tumble out of the top 10 in the league.

  79. Its amazing tat on the eve of a cup final this tool is at it again???

This didn't happen and no radio station in Liverpool is reporting that it happened. No tabloid, LFCTV nobody!!!

    Utter Rubbish

  80.  I doubt this conversation happened the way it's been reported. What I can't understand is why no big club has ever bought Fulham's Dempsey. I've thought for years he's a great player and great scorer, but he rots away at a crap club like Fulham ( no offence Cottagers ). Just imagine we'd bought Dempsey instead of the unvelievably useless Henderson. We'd have about 15 more goals and that would have translated into quite a few points. He would have provided some entertainment too - which we certainly have not this season. In fact, if we had Dempsey we'd only be about eight players short of a decent team.

I suspect the fact that JW Henry switched the conversation to this chaps family AFTER the idiot said GIVE KENNY MORE TIME can be interpreted as JW HENRY will do the RIGHT THING and sack Dalglish.
Given the way the players have performed I suspect they know already.
I think Dalglish is TOAST...which is good news.

  82. This not the Liverpool way, shame on you dissin the manager in public like this. Henry said "we wasted" which includes himself.

    ReplyDelete
  85. i think you need to fully own your desire for Kenny to be sacked ... its clear from your posts that this is how you feel ... but you seem to try and veil it out of fear ... name it tonight on the eve of the FA cup final ... or if i'm wrong give KD your unequivocal backing ... your current position lacks integrity ... a writer shouldn't be sneaky or indecisive ... be a brave man and give us your true feelings on the eve of the FA cup final ... then like the players and the boss you'll have the integrity that comes with putting something on the line
As a Liverpool fan with a few more miles on the clock I get tired of having to silence those who should know better ... We should be supporting the club, particularly on the eve of such a big game !!! And we should know what YNWA really stands for.

  93. Surprised no one has brought up the possibility that this "chance" meeting with a fan was actually a well timed leak....???

Very sneakily done IMO, on the eve of a very important game which could see us win 2 trophies......

Not happy with this though i might be reading it wrong but i fear John Henry will be bringing back Rafa to replace Kenny.......

IF that happens i will walk away from this Club, hang up my supporting boots in disgust, why? because it is obvious to me that Kennys season has been sabotaged by certain players Reina and Suarez for starters to name just 2 of them.....

I wonder IF FSG will be privy to this sabotage by certain players which have helped made Kennys signings look so mediocre...??? IF not, then it will mean that they have been played by Rafa and his "boys" in order to get him reinstated............

THAT would NOT sit well with me at all......and i doubt it would sit well with anyone else if they are aware of what has actually beein going on behind the scenes at the Club....

Granted our league position is not good enough BUT if John Henry thinks for one minute that Rafa is the right man to replace Kenny with he has got another thing coming and it will be his biggest mistake by a distance, i hope that im wrong about this but i smell a rat in all this and tbh i don't like, one bit....

If we have to replace Kenny with another manager then so be it, but IF that manager turns out to be Rafa then i reckon the fan base will be split in half once again.......

  98. This is the excuse...

    * KD signs players and an amount of time was needed to bed in. Signs of improvement were being seen by all until after the Manure game.
*Suarez Race Row - Suarez lies to the club and the club, unknowingly, back him unequivocally.
*Suarez found guilty and the club, players and supporters are embarrased.
*Possible split in the camp - is Suarez a racist etc etc etc???
    * New signings and young players wonder what the f*ck is going on, what type of club they have joined etc etc. Most of the players are unsettled as a result and we have no cohesion. Press reports are negative, players question their ability etc etc etc.
*At this stage we are in touch with CL qualification spot but our lack of cohesion is damaging.
    * Performances continue to dip, but we manage to raise game for cup games in particular when Suarez is banned (play to potential). Cup games offer a little release from the norm!!!
*A section of fans become disillusioned and start turning on KD and the rest of the league season is a write off....fans know it, players know it, owners know it...but KD doesn't show it.

Basically...the Suarez race row has turned the club upside down. No other way to view it, and it's the biggest tangible explanation....

A cup win tomorrow will go some way to making up for it....and it should help bring the cohesion back and we push on next season, playing to potential. And with a sprinkle of new blood (goalscorer a must) we do what we do best....we all come as one and fight for the club...players and supporters alike.

We've never known a season like it...and hopefully we never will again.

Like it or not, Suarez owes us and I hope he has a big say in the game tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I am a KD supporter but I have to say that I disagree with your comment. Marin, Podolski and Kagawa, even without Premier League experience would have given me more reasons to look forward to a season than Carroll, Henderson and Downing. They would have come for the same price if not less and they are proven talents. Yes, Henderson and Carroll may improve but you do not want potential if you want to go for fourth. Next few months is all I want to give Dalglish. I actually like some of the players we are being linked with at the moment. Another mass exodus may be his final most decisive call.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Have you ever thought the reason he wants Dempsey at the club is because he is an American and that will appeal to American supporters and increase marketing in the US.

    ReplyDelete
  115. What good would that do?

You would be a terrible manager. I know you'll already be thinking 'as bad as Dalglish? Not likely!', but let me assure you, slagging of a significant portion of your first team squad is not a good man management strategy.

Also, if the players underperform, you may wish to sell him. Announcing these players are a 'waste of money' is not a good bargaining strategy.

So effectively, you will 'give him [your] full backing' if he opens the dressing room door and lobs in a hand grenade.

    Nice job.

    ReplyDelete
  116. He'd lie for attention, same reason most people lie.

Doesn't mean he has, but this story is hardly concrete. What he has said is true anyway and whether or not John Henry said it, I'm sure he thinks along these lines because he is a shrewd and competent customer.

  121. People only want to give Dalglish more time because of what he did for the club in the 70s and 80s. Is that a good enough reason when any other manager in the world would be called for his head?

    ReplyDelete
  122. Shrini-20 - IT'S NOT FOOTBALL MANAGER LOL This is the real world!!! Cavani/Lavezzi/Banega - Unlikely - No Champs league. Xavi - lol no comment..
From your list the remotely realistic player we could sign would be Luuk de Jong. Even Gaston Ramirez would be a fairly long shot because they are both very promising younger players that plenty of European clubs are after. We really need to clear the decks - Cole, Aqualani, Kuyt, Aurelio. I don't rate Adam as the level of player LFC should have , although results were better before he got injured. We have gone from Mascherano and Alonso to Spearing and Henderson, via Adam. Howwever, Spearing has been very reliable and has stepped up and deserves his starting role this season. Henderson is definitely one for the next few seasons. We need quality now. I hope Lucas comes back strong. We really missed him this season. If we can somehow move on Aurelio, Cole, Aqualani, Kuyt, Maxi, Adam that would prob save us the best part of £300k a week. That's a lot of our wage budget on players that we could replace this summer. I'd like Kuyt to stay in a way cos he does work hard and scores in the big games, but we need skill, speed and a player who can deliver a final pass/cross on both wings. Obviously we need a striker who is a penalty box player - someone who is a clinical finisher. We have Suarez who is a creative second striker - his agility and skill can bamboozle the opposition. So, we need that finisher up front.
I doubt we will be able to attract players from the big european clubs  -it depends how we sell our plans to them. If at all possible i'd like liverpool to try to shift those players mentioned and try to get :
*Adam Johnson - hardly plays for Man City and is wasted on the bench there. He can play on the right or left wing for us.
*Gaston Ramirez - Maybe Suarez and Coates can bend his ear about it?!
    * Luuk de Jong - has been prolific for FC Twente. Can he do it in Prem?
    Quality not quantity..........

Hi mr.delusional.People like you were singing praises of downing and adam when they came and slagged of anyone who disapproved those signings.I remember the same thing being said about the likes of aguero and mata?

''Who's to say aguero and mata will work out?''

let me ask ''who's to say downing and adam will work out''

Suarez had no premiership experience compared to carroll yet who is doing better now? Premiership experience will only help you ease in.If you are a good player with a strong mentality, you will ultimately prevail anywhere.

Take your premiership proven excuses and go support another club like aston villa where they only buy british players.Xenophobic fools like you would be happy with clubs like that.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I do not see the contradiction you talk about me whinging about Mata given it was not my 10 000 signatures asking for him but what I do know is I did not want Downing at the initial figure of £15million first quoted let alone the club gong back with £20,5milion when more effective players such as Valencia bought by our rivals for the same position have been for £17million or less.
By your questioning who knows if  Podolski, Marin and Kagawa will do well it seems to me you are of the opinion that clubs should do nothing because no one knows if any of the players they buy will do well. There is me thinking that Podolski, Kagawa and Marin have been stars in the Bundesliga which is rising again since its now ranked third in Europe ahead of Italy through their collective contribution.Bundesliga has also horned the talents of Demba Ba and Pappis Cisse who are not doing too bad in the premier league. When you add Berbatov and Dzeko to the mix you will then see a pattern forming that players from the Bundesliga do not do too badly when they cross over to the premier league.
This is simply common sense not me just trying to prove anything that is not there to be seen.
Like I mentioned in my opinion, there is a significant fan-base who would rather criticise fellow fans for pointing out the obvious.
You also seem not to grasp the nuances of expressing oneself by thinking I am actually talking about my girlfriend and go for that hook line and sinker by insinuating the man (Kenny) you are defending happens to be pleasing a woman other than his loyal hardworking wife who next to him are indeed shinning beacons for the club with their work in cancer awareness through the Marina Dalglish Foundaton...talk about cutting the nose to spite the face.
People should know not to throw in personal attacks when the opinion is simply about football after a very frustrating season where it can hardly be argued the club has not massively under-performed.
If the fans along with Downing come out with statements like I would rather win medals than qualify for champions league then mid-table is really where the club now belongs.
I personally wold want the club fighting for the league but if we fail to win it then at least qualify for the champions league than sacrifice the league position for cup competitions shunned by rivals focusing on qualifying in the top 4.
On the other hand I can understand Downing would take our current position gladly at his previous clubs but fail to understand long time Liverpool fans who know that the club primarily wants to finish first domestically but also indulge in cup competitions to complement league titles.

Be thankful for the Carling Cup and be thankful for an FA Cup Final as they both indicate the team is capable of winning. Minimum 33% success rate for competitions entered this season.

Success breeds success and any young players thrives on the confidence of knowing they are capable of contributing toward success.

Yes, a change of mentality is required...and that will come if we beat chevski today.

Things will be different, under Kenny, next season....

  138. I feel the big problem with the not so fab four is technical ability. Countless poor first touches passes and positional play. There was much better value in the market. Look at a young team like Ath Bilbao and how much composure they have on the ball and the way they pass. Andy could learn a thing or two from how fernando llorente plays. Holds the ball up so well to allow team mates to join attacks. I agree with all those who say we need to give academy players more opportunities. LFC have a fantastic set up and need to give those players a chance. We have to see what KK does over the summer. One thing you can say about Rafa, he was ruthless with players who did not make the grade. Lets c if KK can bite the bullet and do the same. YNWA

  141. The comments about the 3 aforementioned players were cynicism...although I do have doubts about Kagawa & Marin...both may struggle with the physicality of the prem. (Neither are at the level of Silva/Mata both of whom have struggled to complete games and/or perform at their highest level consistently during the second half of the season).

The fact remains that we have created more than enough chances, but seem unble to put them away. It is the main reason for the lack of confidence the team suffers right now and has suffered for at least half the season.

Call it blind faith if you will, but I form my opinions with a sense of realism, understanding where the club was under H&G before Rafa left, during the Hodgson reign, at the point of Torres leaving, during last season and what Kenny has done this season. We're close to winning two trophies this season and that provides a platform to instill confidence and BELIEF to those struggling to find those attributes after a very tough season on & off the pitch.

I can see the progression, albeit we're still way below all of our aspirations....and CL qualification should be prioritised next season.

Further, we DO NOT have the financial muscle to compete with City, Chelsea, Utd or Arsenal right now.

It was always going to be SMALL STEPS
after 4 years or so of decline....

  147. If KD isn't sacked after playing his favourites all season the club deserves everything that is coming to it. Leeds were huge and they went down. United were huge and six years after winning the European Cup they went down. Another season just a fractiion worse than this and Liverpool will be down among the dead men. The fact is that there is scarcely any club in the Premier that plays less imaginative football. And let's hope any new manager starts by looking for a new 'keeper - Reina is a waste of space. Never liked him and never rated him. Barcelona supporters were delighted when he left them.

  154. As usual Kanwar classic, hates Rafa, backs Hodgson and now hates Kenny. Jaimie why don't you stop this nonsense and make a site about the actual club you support. Man URE

  155. Why have you so called supporters forgotten what the king has done. Last year we were close to getting relegated. Jenny cane in and changed that. He has won the league with 2 different clubs. We had gone 6 years without a trophy, he then won one. The football we've been playing for the last year has largely been superb. Only bad luck of hitting the post more times than anyone else in history has stopped us competing at the top. Who do you want as manager Roy keane? Gary Neville ? Mark hughes ? Start supporting the club. If bet you've never even been to Anfield wher the real fans gather.
No real supporter would want to sack a manager after he won our first trophy for six years.

  156. I agree that KD shouldn't be sacked, but he does need to leave. You talk about what Dalglish has done; well, the bottom line is he has taken the club backwards in the league. That is a fact. LFC are no better off now than when Dalglish took over.
