'They'd be great in England' - Rafa Benitez hails 'fantastic' £60m La Liga duo....

Coveted striker Radamel Falca was instrumental in Atletico Madrid's superb 3-0 Europa League victory over Aletico Bilbao on Wednesday, a game that saw the Colombian cement his status as one of the top goalscorers in Europe. Bilbao's Iker Muniain was on the losing side on this occasion, but both players have been the subject of constant transfer speculation over the last year, with the Premier League predictably mentioned as a possible destination. Would Falcao and Muniain make it in England though? According to former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, they would have no problem adapting.

Analysing the game on his personal website, Benitez described Falcao's goals as 'fantastic' and 'unstoppable', and gave the following appraisal of both players' potential to do well in the Premier League:

"Falcao is a good player that can play in England. He's good in the air, and can score with both feet. Muniain has a great future in any country".

Liverpool have been linked with both players this year, but after a disastrous league campaign and no Champions League football next year, the chances of signing either player are extremely slim.

Not that it matters - in an interview this week, Falcao emphatically ruled out any possibility of a summer transfer:

"The fact is that I signed a four-year contract with Atletico. That is the reality and not the rumours in the papers. I arrived intending to be here for a long time and it is my dream to be remembered by the fans for helping them to celebrate titles. If Atletico do not finish in the Champions League places it will hurt, but it will not mean that I will look to be sold in the summer."

With Falcao valued at €40m and Muniain likely to cost €25-€30m, both players are probably out of Liverpool's price range at the moment. We can still dream though!

  1. It's Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao.
Falcao plays for the former, Munain the latter.

    Bit sloppy, that.

  2. Terrible piece of journalism... Falcao and Munian are great players but only Falcao helped madrid defeat Bilbao.. Munian plays for Bilbao!

Plus, Bilbao did not pay 40m Euros for Falcao.. it was Madrid!! Talk about contracdicting yourself

  3. I think that these players are out of our reach they wouldn't have been if we hadnt of wasted so much on medicore british talent but I think that if we can sign luuk de jong and gaston ramirez and give aqualiani a chance we have a strong attacking line up

  4. Should sign up Muniain quick, he is very much in the David Silva mould and is going to be a world class player in a few years. We missed out on David Silva and Juan Mata when rafa was in charge, we cannot afford to let another future superstar to get away. Act quickly Kenny!

  20. Munian plays for Bilbao not Madrid, and Bilbao payed nothing for Falcao as he is a Madrid player, sloppy story when straight forward facts are wrong!

  21. out of price range?£35m Carroll,Henderson £17m,Downing £20m?

  22. How about a punt on Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield at about 5m to add depth to the frontline as there is no depth. Young, 38 goals this season, lots of pace and intelligent movement, can be groomed in the Reserves and could add a bit of strength to the bench until he is ready.
Before anyone moans he doesnt play in Serie A or La Liga nor cost 20m, Ian Rush came from Chester and Kevin Keegan from Scunthorpe.

  23.  Oh dear....!!!! Putting your errors aside....

Rafa isn't telling us anything we don't already know...but Falcao is going nowhere and Muniain will be playing CL football next year, wherever that may be!

Forget players from both of these teams, they'll be over-priced.

Javi Marquez, Pablo Hernandez and Jeremy Mathieu are three players from Spain we should sign.

  24. UNFORTUNATELY,  I WOULD IMAGINE WE WILL BE LOOKING TO SIGN THE LIKES OF VICTOR MOSES, FOR SAY, 40M?. SCOTT DANN, FOR MAYBE, 28M? I DON'T KNOW WHO REALLY, BUT I CAN EXPECT WE WILL PAY STUPID MONEY FOR VERY AVERAGE 'TALENT', AND BE THE LAUGHING STOCK OF FOOTBALL FOR ANOTHER SEASON. HOPEFULLY WE CAN FIND ANOTHER CHARLIE ADAM......I LOVE TALENTLESS, CRAP, GRACING THE HALLOWED ANFIELD TURF. I WISH OUR MANAGEMENT WOULD REMEMBER A QUOTE FORM THE LORD BILL SHANKLY....."WE HAVE PROFESSIONAL GRASS", SHAME WE HAVE  SOME PLAYERS WHO DON'T DESREVE TO GO NEAR IT OR KNOW THE MEANING OF THE WORD 'PROFESSIONAL'.

  27. No matter how much money we throw, I don't think top non-British talents 'll join LFC as long as KD & his support team is there.  By over paying for British garbage & later to accommodate those, by benching, selling or loaning established top foreign internationals (even after good performances in pre or last season) KD has established that LFC is not a good place, unless you speak English as mother tongue.

Besides, outside UK, who in KD as a Managers that top talents 'll bank on him to develop their career?  I don't think CL football is the only issue - lot of top players came to ManC, when they were out of CL.  Even at Seria B, Juventus could keep most of their players.

I believe, it's the Manager that matters, more than anything else. Bring someone like AVB, Rafa, Guardiola, Klopp, Emre or Deschams, I am sure lot of young players 'll join LFC to fight the CL qualification out, next season.

  30. Your right Bilbao didnt pay a penny for him cuz it was Atletico Madrid and they payed Porto 40m Euros

  31. using the likes of rush and keegan as examples are outdated now. why would you take a gambal on 5mil with rhodes when you can much easier bring in some of our youth like Suso, Ecclestone and Sterling for far cheaper

    ReplyDelete
  32. are u soccer pundit? i got your back here bro, you are so right, the manager matters especially now that alan pardew seems to realise that  there is more value for money for international players than the british ones. i'l go for slovan bilic

  33. Arsenal signed Oxlade-Chamberlain from the same league, Fergie was at Crewe last week watching a player, Sunderland signed McLean from the Irish League,  there are some top players in the lower leagues if you can find them and Rhodes is possibly the best. Some big club will take a punt on him. 90% of youth players no matter how much potential they have dont make it. Playing on a field in front of 10 people doesnt help as Reserve games are now played at training grounds. Loan these lads out till Jan to a top Championship side to test their mettle. Wilshere, Sturridge, Welbeck and Cleverley benefited enormously from loan spells.

  34. if he get any  transfer money!!!!!

  35. You r right mate. And lots of top foreign talent don't even know who KD is.

    ReplyDelete
  36.  totally agree....we stink of desperation in the transfer market that's why we get fleeced....we need a cool head the right players at the right prices who will fit in with the club and tactics we dont have any logical transfer policy

  37. the Yanks are used to having money wasted on the likes of Henderson Adams & Downing as that is a drop in the ocean to what has been wasted at the Red Sox.
They have wasted since 2010 $450 million in player contracts on 3 players who have been an absolue disaster.
Teams rarely function well when the big investments fail and in the words of an American journalist  the Red Sox dressing room is now like a neighborhood with several homes in foreclosure. No matter how hard a few individuals may work, the street is going to look shabby.

  38. If Rafa had the financial backing that KD has had, those two would already be at LFC now.

  39. By the sounds of things Kenny is supposedly fine tuning the squad i dont think FSG are giving him much at all and can you blame them.

  40.  Truth is that Munain is a product of his enviroment and unfortunately for any team chasing him, he is Basque and loves the Pais Vasco... It's extremely doubtful he will ever leave Bilbao.
As anyone knows who has ever lived in Nothern Spain (I'm an expat scouser from Anfield) people from the North Coast have particular ways and they find it very difficult to escape from their surroundings.
Iker is a stupendous player but I just can't see him leaving his cosy Nervion surroundings...

  42. You are spot on the money with your comment i could not agree more MMHS, i like the first 5 out of your selection anyone of those YES PLEASE, players will play for a manager if he is the right one.

  43. These two are fantastic but i think that their price tags are a bit steep for us, would be nice though. KK does not have the vision to spot world class talent i think we need someone who does i would like to see Rafa pink the players for KK if he won't step down, any chance of them working together next season? LOL.

What a load of rubbish city got players when they weren't in champ league because they bought mercenaries players who only play for big big wages we can't afford to give 200 k a week to a player, you need to give the manager a chance he is rebuilding success don't come over night look at we're we was before he took over he has bought an British spine which every club needs ok they. Haven't gelled straight away but he has bought a lot of players and it just don't happen like that , city has spent 6 times the amount we have and only won the fa cup ok their on the verge this year of winning the big one but so they should be, why would guardiola come from barca to liverpool? Ure in dream land go back on championship manager or FIFA for you over night succes lol sell every player in your team and bring in worldies haha have you ever played football or are you fat stuck in your arm chair ? Have you ever bin to watch a game at anfield ? If you had watched many of the games this season we have played most teams of the park just couldn't put chances away that tell me that we only need a few more players and I think kenny is a hell of a lot more qualified for that than you he knows wher he needs to strenthan and he will, Give your fat head a wobble idiot

  49. More the point is that they won't want to come now, unless we pay them crazy wages or something. What a wasted opportunity last summer. We are now bout five years behind where we could have been.
