Should Liverpool fans be worried by this disturbing aspect of FSG's strategy...?

After a day of high drama at Anfield, Kenny Dalglish is no longer the manager of Liverpool Football Club. His assistant, Steve Clark has quit, and there are rumours that Ian Ayre will also be gone by the end of the day. With the search now on for Dalglish's replacement, FSG now face arguably the most important decision in the club's history, and the consequences of getting it wrong do not bear thinking about. The decision to remove Dalglish was correct (though I do wish he hadn't been sacked), but there is one aspect of the situation I find mildly disturbing: with no one left at Anfield who knows anything about football, who is advising John Henry et al on football matters right now?

Let's be honest: FSG know diddly squat about football:

* You can count the number of games they've attended on the fingers of one hand (well, maybe one a half)

* They sanctioned the 35m purchase of Andy Carroll, despite the fact he had only half a season of top flight experience.

* They caved in to fan pressure/sentimentality and appointed Dalglish as manager, even though Henry initially had reservations.

* They hired Damien Comolli because he was recommended by Moneyball guru Billy Beane (!)

Okay, I'm being a little flippant, but you catch my drift. There is a serious issue here though:

Since Liverpool currently have no manager, no Director of Football, and no 'football people' in senior positions at the club, who is providing FSG with the essential knowledge and insight required to select the new manager?

* Henry, Werner et al are currently in the US - how can they conduct an effective managerial search from there?

* Who will be interviewing the new manager? If it's Henry and Werner, how are they qualified to make the right decision, and how - with their limited experience of football - will they arrive at a decision?

* Will it just be a case of looking at stats and past history? Given the transfers they've sanctioned over the last 18 months, that would surely be the worst way to proceed.

* If Ian Ayre stays at the club, will he be responsible for finding a new manager? Let's hope not. The last non-football person tasked with choosing a Liverpool manager selected Roy Hodgson, and look how that turned out.

* With a dearth of 'football people' at the club right now, will FSG consult the players during their managerial search? Let's hope not. The players are partly responsible for getting Dalglish the sack, so why do they deserve to be consulted?

This is a legitimate concern IMO. Liverpool have always had experienced football people at the club to guide the board when it comes to appointing new managers, but that's not the case at this moment in time.

After the trials and tribulations of the last year, FSG's 'scorched earth' policy is a necessary evil, but let's hope they haven't created an experience vacuum that leads to even bigger mistakes being made.

  1. I agree, who will advise them about a new manager?

    Such an important decision

I see Wikipedia also now states that Steve Clark has quit "out of loyalty"

  2. Correct me if im wrong here but were you not one of the many "fans" calling for Kenny's head due to the lack of results in the Premier League?

  3. What's your point? I believed it was time for Dalglish to go, yes, but what does that have to do with this article?

  4. I don't like what is going on right now. If it was just the manager I would not worry but the problem is that the last month 4-5 key positions have been sacked!.

So I don't like this at all

  10. We should
really be grateful and thank Principal Owner John W. Henry, Chairman Thomas
Werner and FSG for their steady commitment to turn around the fortunes of this
historic club and make all LFC’s fans worldwide proud again.  Parting company with Kenny Dalglish was not
an easy decision to make but it was the right one for many reasons that we
analyzed previously a lot of times.  LFC
needs a top-world class manager and they should very carefully select the ideal
replacement.  They should select from the
    following highly rated managers:

    1.      Jose
    Mourinho

    2.      Pep
    Guardiola

    3.      Guus
    Hiddink

    4.      Fabio
    Capello

    5.      Joachim
    Low

    6.      Jurgen
    Kopp

    7.      Louis
    Van Gaal

    8.      Lorent
    Blanc

    9.      Marcello
    Lippi

    10.  Maximiliano
    Alegri

    11.  Antonio
    Conte

    12.  Andre-Villas
    Boas

    13.  Marcelo
    Bielsa

    14.  Rafael
    Benitez

  11. This site does nothing but complain wrongly moaned about kenny now they get what the want and start moaning about fsg.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Obviously, the complaints about KD were not wrong because he's been sacked. Secondly, this is not complaining about FSG, it's taking a critical look at the current situation, which is what this site is all about. No one is immune, not even FSG.

  13. Could be that Steve Clark did write a shortlist for them after he told them, that he would quit - and before he left Boston? Would be sensible for them to have him do so.

  14. Happy now Jaimie? What will be the subject of the next rant? The owners probably influenced by the nation of armchair supporters venting spleens on forums and message boards.

Lets hope Martinez isn`t lined up for his successes in the last few weeks of the seasons!

  16. The decision to remove Dalglish was correct (though I do wish he hadn't been sacked).

You've wanted him sacked for a very long time now and then you come up with this. It totally contradicts A lot of what you have said in the past.

  17. In the article your having a go at FSG,but they have done exactly what you wanted.I agree with a lot of the points you made about FSG by the way.

  18. Panic decisions are not good ones, wholesale changes are not good for morale, I dont trust these owners they lied, just weeks ago they said His job was safe, they have done no better with the red socks who it appears are their main concern - a big mistake, liverpool fc has a global market. saying that I hope of course they are highly successful then they can have their money and we can have our pride.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm not happy that KD got sacked, no. As I'm sure regular readers will confirm, I've been vehemently against Dalglish being sacked, and I've repeatedly stated that I didn't want it to happen. I hoped he'd step down, but that obviously didn't happen.

Be that as it may, KD had to go, whether people like it or not.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm not having a go them, I'm just raising issues I feel are important. For all I know, they have a selection panel consisting of Rush, Barnes, Hansen, Cruyff and Beckenbauer working behind the scenes to find a new manager.

  21. hope fsg knows what they r doing...i think its as important to appoint director of football as a manager. the growing internet trend taunting roberto martinez as our new manager has left even more bad taste...
common roberto martinez, when there are more experienced high profile manager like fabio capello available...what if roberto martinez will fail in the beginning of the season? will supporters be that suppotive as well known manager? what if the feud between player and manager creates more problems? hope i am wrong and fsg is right

  23. When I was a lad just getting to the FA cup final was considered a great achievement until it was cheapened by Alex Ferguson and the FA lackies.
Each of our league cup wins have been proud achievements until losers made it the micky mouse cup. The fact is it is all about the CL but Man u have been outspending us for many years until the last couple, Chelsea and Man city dwarf our spending so there is one place for the rest, get real Mr Henry you cant catch up overnight. it took Ferguson 7 years to win anything.

  25. My point exactly. As far as im concerned the all the people that were shouting their mouths off for Kenny to be sacked really need to take a look at the current situation and realize that we are in big trouble now that he has gone.Do people really think players like Skrtel,Agger,Reina even Lucas are going to be willing to sit around while the 4th manager in under 3 years comes in and outlines his 3/5 year plan.Im not one for "the Liverpool way" but considering what Kenny has done as a player and manager not to mention the time and effort him and his family put into the justice for the 96 campaign,he deserved at least another year.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Exactly mate! I agree with you Achilderhose. I have always said it that critics who only highlight negatives and then call for a manager's head are no good. You called for Benitez to be sacked, now it's Kenny. I wonder what you'll say if the coach you actually want gets the nod and then fails to turn our fortunes around. Then am sure you'll get into the dug-out yourself JK! Atimes patience is all you need to achieve great success. I wonder how people handle lows or downsides in their personal lifes when all they do is seek the easy way out

    ReplyDelete
  27. They are no mugs, there is nothing to worry about. OK they may be a little gung-ho with some things, but they have not bought the club to let it become a mid table joke. they will bring in top people imo. the only question mark is over martinez..who would be the wrong choice. unproven and risky. a complete restructuring in effect, and this time they'll get it right. FSW would bring in a proper scouting network for one, he brought borrell and segura in ffs-legends. any club would want them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It has a lot to do with it mate. As the informed critic you pose to be, I expect you to keep an eye on the bigger picture, knowing how disruptive it could be for people who don't understand football to sack a manager barely half-way into the project. I am no Daglisg apologist, but I just think that hasty decisions result in disaster. Bayern were tempted to sack Van Gaal in his first year, but they kept faith with him and exhibited some patience; in the following year he delivered a double and played the CL finals. Just like any system, cycles are bound to occur, and it's how you deal with them that truly determines your long term success!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well lets hope they do.Its just on Sky Sports news that Steve Clarke is not after quitting. Why quit when he can hang on for a pay off.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The club is not in big trouble; change is hard, but it's necessary, and sometimes you have to take a few hits to move forward. That's what's happening here, and LFC will emerge from this in a much stronger position.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, every other news provider including the BBC, Guardian, the Independent and The Times have confirmed the Clarke story. He's gone, however it happens.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sorry, but this is nothing like the Bayern situation. Dalglish needed to go, and he was not the long-term solution. If there was any evidence that the Dalglish 'project' would bear fruit down the line he would've been kept, but anyone who looks at the situation without bias can see that the club was heading for mediocrity under Dalglish. Things needed to change, and they have.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You are over-worrying. They have sent out a message to people that they know what they are doing by sacking Dalglish. At the end of the day, they could see the football was going nowhere so a new management team needs to freshen things up.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anyone who thinks Kenny lost His job today is mistaken, the look on Mr Henrys face at the end of the cup final told its own story, Idont think winnig would have made any difference - He looked like He diddnt want to be there before, during or after = not good.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Why are some people so obsessed with the past? Bloody hell.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jaimie. Why are you arguing abt a technicality? Sack/Step down? Whats the difference? Bottom line. U wanted him gone, now he's gone. The end is the same.

You r pissed off with the owners. You r pissed off with the players. The manager you disliked is gone.
So what are you whining about? What more do you actually want?It seems that albeit by differing means, you've gotten the ending you very much desired.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Talking out both sides of your mouth again Jaimie: 'I never called for Kenny to be sacked, I wanted him to step down'. Who's next on your sh*t list? By the way, I never heard you lay into FSG until now - probably wasn't their turn...

    ReplyDelete
  39. You called for Benitez to leave? That worked out well LOL

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well, I don't know if this is true but I've heard he was offered two resignation packages which he rejected so they had no choice but to sack him.

    ReplyDelete
  41. ps I did not like that look, it is not what We want to see on such occasions.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm reading that FSG are lining up AVB as they want a young, sexy manager.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Of course there's a difference between being sacked and stepping down! Resigning is more dignified, and that is always the preferred route.

The goal of this site is critical realism about LFC, that means every aspect of the club will always be looked at critically. The sooner people understand that, the better. There will never be a time when the club is not looked at critically from this site because that's the whole aim of the site.

  44. Our 'net spend' between the 1990 and 2010 is quite close to Manure's. Its a shambles, in general, our player expenditure in the past two decades.

    ReplyDelete
  45. We have the wage budget (We are very high up the table for football wages worldwide) and player expenditure (I am not referring to net spend) of a CL team, yet its another season without CL. This can't go on for much longer. Stadium plans have been shelved, no manager, plenty staff upheavel and a mediocre squad. This club needs bringing back down to earth, needs humbling and be conservative in its ambitions for the next two seasons, to allow the new manager to stamp his way on and off the pitch (KK wasn't an ideal manager for me, in relation to rebuilding the squad properly and it showed). But this won't happen, the pressure and ambition will remain, even if the squad isn't anywhere near Stevie G's usual forthcoming pre-season prediction of 'we mean business in the league'. Until FSG come out and say 'we are going to be more conservative in our ambition for the next season or two, to allow the club to breathe again and build properly', it is going to be the same old, same old.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well, Rudolfo running the reserves knows a bit... FWIW, it seems a bit too convenient for comfort that Steve Nicol, who had a lot of success in the U.S., is a free agent and has been appearing on ESPN in the U.K. a lot recently...
...however, if FSG think that -
    a) they are going to get a top European manager.
    b) we are going to get a top 4 finish in one season after spending only 20 million on "young, upcoming talent" (the alleged summer budget/policy).
    c) sacking managers at the same rate as Chelsea is the blueprint for success.
    - they are in for a huge disappointment.

Also, while they're fannying about looking for a manager, we're yet again losing negotiating time with transfers and chances are Skrtl, Suarez, Lucas, Reina & Agger will be on the blower to their agents as we speak, as well as their policy of axing all the over 30s and with the Euros and Olympics getting in the way, as well as the early start in the Europa League and the trip to the States, we'll be lucky if we can fill the bench come August.
Five year plan? I predict we'll be up for sale next May.

And there is a world of difference between being sacked and stepping down. I'm amazed I have to even explain that.

    So, once again, I'm waiting...

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think the chain reaction had to start somewhere. I really hope they have people around them that knows football. We need the Ex Barca Director of Football! They need to make swift movements. A manager must be in place before the window opens.

  56. JK and Simon, I find this article a wee bit confusing, the owners are very good at what they are doing, they wil not be fooled twice, Plan B is already in place. My point being that the people who are being moved on are just creating positions for the 'new regime', my strong belief is that Rafa is coming back, will not work with a Football Director, nor Ian Iyre who is IMO is next in-line and some of the officials that were 'inherited' by the new owners when they took over. It is a cleaning up operation and I would not hold my breath if it also came to some of the deadwood playing for us now.  Anyway lets wait patiently for a couple of days, see whats up their sleeve before we start another guessing rumour mill.

  68. I get exactly what Jaimie Kanwar is saying. He shared the opinion that a lot of fans had, that Dalglish probably wasn't suited to the Liverpool job. But now he is gone, following the departures of a lot of footballing people at the club, who is actually qualified to choose a manager? He is simply raising a concern yet a section of fans seem to pounce on everything he says. There is a very real concern hat with out a director of football and qualified football people to advise them, that the owners will choose the wrong man. Let's hope behind the scenes they are being advised, preferably not by the moneyball guru

    ReplyDelete
  69. two cup finals in a year, yeah sack him , thats great. Arsenal did that cup run under arsene in his first year and got in second in the league in the next, and the title after that. Good managers like to get a cup. They dont care about being 2nd , 3rd, 4th, they want that monkey of their back. FSG better have a major name lined up, thats not rafa, or ill just start an online campaign against them like some bloggers on here have been doing against kk since he started.

sooo....You happy Jamie? I know you wanted him gone, maybe not sacked, but now he is gone, however it happened, you going to tell us how great it is now. A club without a manager. 73. I believe David Dein was in attendence at some of our games with the owners hence he may be one of the many who could be advising FSG.
I dont see how being advised by the same people who have done so for 18 months but led Liverpool to where it is now would have done any better now.Besides, the advisor doesn't have to be very visible. What FSG have done is take apart the structures that have overseen the club fail to win the title for over 2 decades so that cant be too wrong. The club needed a complete departure from what has happened during this time when you consider how marketing underperformed with the scouting network always landing Liverpool with laughable duds.It is sad to see Kenny go but his confrontational approach in seeking out the owners before they approached him after a season of high drama and poor league record albeit tempered by a Carling Cup win may have been one drama too many.Hopefully a clearout of players not dedicated to the cause or resistant to change follows.Kuuyt's recent protests of being pushed out seems to me like the dressing room may have become unhappy too because many could have been thinking ho is pushed out next after Meireles seemingly had promises broken hence he was effectvely all but pushed out.Maxi has been indirectly quoted to be wanting out hence the picture paints an image of unhappy foreigners which doesnt reflect well on the club's image as a global brand a reason why Standard Chartered Bank became club sponsors for a league record deal at the time. Standard Chartered happens to have the majority of its business outside the UK in areas such as Africa and Asia and South America which are the regions Liverpool seemed to distance its playing staff from.Liverpool should have known how building a British team would be like by looking Aston Villa another club that tried that rout but paid top dollar for some talent that worked but many more did not and now they languish in the wrong places which looked like the same trajectory Liverpool seemed to be going.

  76. Jaimie K - I log onto this site fairly regularly and I must say that I find you to be the most negative so-called Liverpool fan I know of.  I often wonder if you are a Liverpool fan at all or rather a wind-up merchant.  You hounded Benitez and you hounded Dalglish.  Your articles and your comments remind me of the sort of treatment the english tabloids usually dish out to the england football manager - constant criticism and negativity.  No doubt it won't be long until you are telling us why King Kenny's sucessor must go. Very sad - LFC and the Liverpool fans have long held a reputation for being the most patient and level-headed.  Unfortunately, and partly due to keyboard warriors like yourself, we now have a situation where we are looking for our 4th manager in 3 years.  It is a sad day for LFC, King Kenny deserved better than this.

  79. In 6 years, Rafa's net spend was £60.3 million - Jaimie will verify if needed I'm sure

That means the board / owners contributed, on average, a mere £10.5 million from the club coffers for transfers each season. Our wage bill is shocking though, overpaying players that we hoped would be world class....

Would Chelsea or Man City have won leagues with investment at that level? Not a chance. Rafa worked miracles.

I've no problem with United's spending, it was earned. The problem is petro dollars, Abramo dollars, soon to be gone Bank of Madrid money is propping the entire house of cards up.

Salary caps, spending caps as % of turnover or set limits will allow football to be competitive again and increase profits for owners.

Rich, capitalist, white American sports franchise owners practice socialism amongst themselves at the upper echelons of American sport. Why can't we? Football is terminally ill.

  88. Yes....they appear to be quite clueless tbh.

  89. I don't think you have a clue Jaimie. You are a trouble stirrer and a fear monger. This article claims that there are no footballing brains left at the club. Are you mentally impaired? Are you that stupid to think that with 3 or 4 people gone that one of the top teams in the world is out of footballing brains. It's extremely rare that you put up a positive article. Your a prime example of some idiot with an outlet causing unneeded trouble. And any fans reading the articles can see how much of a trouble maker you are. You are what is wrong with our club. Our club doesn't need 'fans' like you!!!

  90. shanks had 7 seasons 66 to 73 no trophys.  no one called for him to sacked we needed kenny to put a smile on peoples faces and make the club stable again and then push on to greater things . 18 months is no time to turn the club round i and many 1000 s of reds are gutted at the lack of respect and the way u were treated . they should have been at the club they own. not flying people 4000 miles to sack then .damm yanks. had enough of the other two . now we have another gang of hillbillies runnin the club .do us all a favour sell the club now make a profit and cos thats your only intension and go back and run your baseball teams cos u lot no nothing about football.. U DONT TREAT THE KING LIKE THIS. why didnt u come to anfield and hold a press conference ? because ur cowards . no balls

  91. Football is very much an emotional situation....90 mins off up's and down's...dissapointments, defeats....victories...you name it, its all EMOTIONAL....without that there would be no point whatsoever....

AND considering a wonderful character and legend at the Club has just been SACKED....it is hardly surprising now is it...?

  92. Can i ask what is this obsession with wanting managers to step down all the time. it lights up twitter. bloggers like Jamie make it a full time blog, newspapers (the really crap ones) predict sacking dates all the time with the help from the bookies. managers come and go, why is this the answer to every stupid personas idea , that its the manager. MAYBE a manager gets his tactics wrong for 18 months, maybe he will fix them the next year. Whats this obsession with sacking managers...is it some kind of stimulus to the english mans brain to have a man getting the sack. Maybe if our real lives were all about being on the edge of being sacked, we would get bored of saying SACK him, or as jamie would put it.... ask him to step aside nicely!!

  93. Have to agree with this. I've been looking at other forums allday and the one thing that annoyed me the most. Apart from the people who had been there way too long 'know-it-all football oracles'. Was people kept likening us to being Chelsea for the way they get rid of managers quickly. Now, if im not mistaken they are in the Champions league final and have just won the FA cup. Getting shot of AVB when they did was the correct decision. And if it had happened sooner, they may have clinched 4th. I dislike those rent boys just as much as the next fan. But, you have to respect the decisiveness of the owner.

Our problems go much deeper than the owners. Most of our fans are delusional muppets and fuel the issues that persist to bring the club down.

I'm sorry, but after reading Liverpool forums for years, thats my conclusion.

Shit house owners and fans have been turning me away from the club since Benitez left. This just proves i was right that sacking Rafa would be the end of the Liverpool Football club i grew up with.

I hope i'm wrong but, i only see us moving around 5th-8th place for the next 2-5 years.

  94. The players should be last consulted on who the manager should be. He isnt there to be mates with them. Hes there to manage.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Frank Rijkaard? Are you mental????

In fact, dont answer that. I just read the first three on your wish list of players. You obviously are mental and need help if you think any of the first three would come to pool.

No chance. Shit, this is depressing reading some of the comments on here. I don't proffess to be intelligent/ knowledgable/ etc. But, ffs does anyone here have any common sense when it comes to football?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Only cos i mentioned it before anyone else on another thread. Its not f ing rocket science that bizarre things are going on at the club. Its been happenening for months. The sacking of the sports science guy was the first sign for me. We are, or were the last time i checked top of the fitness league in the epl. Suggesting that his work has been working. So why sack him???? Asset stripping again?? I hope not and would like to believe this all some grand master plan. But, they are Yanks and they never to be trusted in my book. If it hadnt been for Fergie. Utd would be in dire straits due to debts hoisted on them.

    ReplyDelete
  97. All these Liverpool fans? Yeah, someone on this forum just said that football is terminally ill. If we cannot "mourn" the loss of the King, then I wonder what our humanity has become. We are talking about KK here, guys!!! KK!!! Whatever glory there is in our history, KK played a sterling role in it; what we are now so proud of was built around KK from 1977-1990. He was asked to fly half around the world when they had already decided what they wanted to do? This is a shock to me; and it also shows the cultural difference between Americans and British people. Utter disgrace. People are trying to justify the sack, but this is the most humiliating sack I have ever heard of in Liverpool's history, and for it to have happened to the man who gave 40 years of his life to Liverpool, and the man in which it happened is making me lose sleep. This is what happens when non-footballing people run football. I wonder what would have happened if this was Fergie or Wenger. When last did Wenger win anything? People are talking about 110 million, but what about the sale of Torres and Meireles and the other "cheap sales" here and there? So what is the net spending of FSG? How much did Abramovich spend to get Chelsea where they are? How about Man City? More importantly, how long did it take Chelsea, or Man City to win the league after big money injections? As hard as I try, I just don't get it!!!

    I can't sleep tonight!!!

  98. Change needed to b made but it would've been nice if he was offered another role at the club. Good luck to KD at whatever he does.

  103. Kenny will always be a legend in my eyes the board have made there decision, agree with it or not there is no turning back now. I idolised him as a player growing up and would always want to be Kenny in the school playground, the park or in the streets, he will forever be etched into the heart of our great club maybe he should have been given another season but it is to late now. FSG now have to aim high as a statement of intention as sacking Kenny was a bold move and secure some one with the stature, charisma and footballling know-how who can steer the club forward. I could throw names around all day but most have already been mentioned so I won't bother, people keep stating why would these big managers take the job and I say why not? If the owners assure them of the funds and time 'Liverpool Football Club' is still a name that carries weight, with a strong history and legendry support the world over

  106. This is laughable Jamie, even by your standards. You've been running what amounts to a hate campaign against Dalglish all season - even today you've got your 'delusionist' dig in. So you didn't want him sacked, you wanted him to resign? It amounts to the same thing - you wanted him gone.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Should LFC fans be concerned,in a word,YES!,I have to say I am absolutely gutted by the new's,talk about shooting yourself in the frigging foot!. Who in the hell are these people going to get in now and on whose advice are they going to apply their judgement of picking a new manager?,they know nothing about EPL football,or what is at stake with this great football club!,I could understand it if we had been relegated but come on,rebuilding and success is not an instant proposition it takes time and patience and faith in the people you have put in place to achieve it,a little over a season is certainly not long enough.I can see the same thing happening all over again in another 12 month's,because whoever these idiot's appoint will not turn this around,it will be nothing but turmoil from now on other player's and staff wanting out and no good player's wanting to come in, who would? I seriously believe this is a very dark day in this great club's history and what a way to treat Dalglish, the guy has done nothing but put his heart and soul into LFC. I have and alway's will support Liverpool through good and bad, but today I have to say that I am totally PISSED-OFF!!!!.Ihope all you Anti -Dalglish people are happy, you have gotten what you have been ranting on about all season, let's hope you will not be doing the same thing again in the coming month's when thing's are not working out!!!!!!!, but somehow I doubt it!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Sorry but fuck the yanks this is not baseball this is LFC

    ReplyDelete
  117. I have been saying for a long time LFC needed a huge change at the top. LFC have become to0 complacent as have the fans. Wow we won the carling cup and we go on about it like its a massive achievement. Or we are happy and think we won the league when we get to see Man U win FA in the year. Man U fans are laughing at us when we get on the boards and say these things about Man U? They will be competing next season without a doubt while LFC will be dreaming of the impossible as they have done for over 2 decades.  Talk about dense!

I mentioned in a previous post that FSG can't of been happy with the ROI with Foolgish's buys! He like Rafa are just to stubborn for there own good and now look at them. FSG are looking to stop the wastefulness and I am all for the change. Its been a long time coming. Better to try something new I say seeing as everything else is currently not working!Going forward is a massive job. Fans can forget about a stadium being built or discussed in the near future. There is no money for such a huge investment. LFC naming rights are worth very little now that they (as I predicted) would not get into the champions league. Manager wise: Who seriously wants to come? And even if you do attract a world class manager some how what kind of budget will they demand? Its very easy spending 80 million on Ronaldo when there are no budget constraints!Players: This leads me to the next problem. Who actually will come to LFC as their first choice? Very few so LFC will always be getting 3rd choice players if lucky as they'll be competing against the bigger sides. LFC would need a miracle personally to get competing without massive amounts of money being spent on the first team. At a minimum they require 2 quality wingers, a deadly striker, creative central midfielder and a central defender just for starters. Thats alot of money already and even then it wont mean LFC will get a def top 4 finish. All the other clubs will be buying big especially Man U, Chelsea. Even Arsenal might open their cheque book. Put it this way, Man U this season have the worse team I can remember in a long time and lost the league by only a few seconds so that tells you how far LFC are behind. Not only that but it shows there are serious issues else where at the club and FSG seem to finally realise this and have started the much needed cull. But as they say anything can happen in football but personally I dont see LFC getting lucky, they haven't done so in over 2 decades of trying to win the league.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Will be some documentary eh!

    ReplyDelete
  124. I totally agree with you,but the keyword's,FUNDS AND TIME are what worry me because I think whoever is given the opportunity to be the next manager is probably not going to get either.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Ditto, interesting the Dein bit but I don't know, always seem to have come across as a Gooner through and through, hard to see him at another club...though you never know, football is football and money is money

    ReplyDelete
  126. Yep, things were so great in Rafa's last season at the club (!)

Oh it wasn't? Never mind, none of it was his fault as there is always a scapegoat for Rafa to hide behind.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Hicks and Gillette raped LFC by selling our best players. Hodgson inherited a team without Alonso and Mascherano and as a result Torres left. 3 world class players gone!
KD could then only sign (due to our weakened squad, no CL, no City cash and lower league position) unproven, potentially good players who the clubs in the CL weren't determined to sign like Hendo, Adam and Carroll.
We played over half a season without Lucas, our most important player, without Gerrard and with young players who haven't played together who had to play out of position... positions that could have been filled this summer.
Things like this take time without City's money or Chelski titles... unfortunately we've just lost a great man, player and manager because people lost faith and wanted a quick fix.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Simon you disagree with Costa Y about his list and then you have the nerve to put Rodgers name ahead of those great managers, when will you get it that buying British is the reason we are in this mess in the first place. You want a manager who has done what exactly out side of UK and inside as well(Rodgers) over some of the best managers in the world you my friend are a worry.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I think everyone needs to take a chill pill, Jamie you no how stubborn KK is, so to expect him to step down please, everyone else needs to relax what's done is done, most of us do not like the way this has happened and we will all have different opinions about it, the truth is it is over now we need to move on.
My only concern is that we get Martinez or Rodgers, for me this would be crazy, you don't make a statement like the one FSG have made by getting rid of the King and then go hire one of those two.  There are people still associated with the club that still know a little about football (i can only hope) that can assist FSG in their decision making, but the truth of the matter is we need a manager that footballers want to play for because the club's name has that history of greatness it is the manager and the staff that will attract good players.
Van Gaal, Hiddink, AVB and Benitez could do it as for English i do like Harry Rednapp i think he has an eye for talent and he makes the hard decisions during a game but then again i could be wrong and so could everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Everybody seems to be ganging up on you today Jamie. Looks like there are a lot of people who are hard core Daglish fans. I like and respect Daglish but I myself was not a fan of his hiring in the first place. I did not get caught up in the nostalgia and emotion surrounded with one of Liverpool most famous servants. I simply thought of Daglish as not qualified after such a long absence in foot-ball. We all saw that for ourselves. King Kenny failing to explain the performances of the team lost his composure with the media. He made the wrong signings last summer etc. I could go on for ever. We all know why the owners fired him. It is irrelevant weather Jamie said "step down" or "fired," the King is gone because he hung himself. A lot of his mistakes were overlooked because he is Kenny Daglish.  The day Arsenal finish 8th is the day Wenger is sacked. The day Sir Alex finishes 8th is the day he is sacked . Yeah even him. People forget that this club Liverpool is a really ambitious club. The clubs standard of performance has dipped a lot in recent years and with the poor perfomances translates in reduced earnings for the owners. Everything in foot-ball is tied to money. The owners want a massive transformation at Anfield and i am sure they are going to pursue big name managers. I think that they have some candidates in mind. I even heard rumors of AVB

    ReplyDelete
  134. Ya a winning mentality is the last thing we need right now !!!??

And seriously mate.. 'Liverpooll fans have become too complacent' ?? your having a laugh right..

    ReplyDelete
  136. I wouldn't mind Rafa coming back, but no matter how I look at it I simply cannot see this happening. It may be wishful thinking by a lot of fans but do you really believe that these owners want to relive the past AGAIN?

No. They will be looking in a new direction, and John Henry is on record as saying that Dalglish was not his first choice, as he wanted someone younger. "You need long term stability at all levels of the club for success" I believe his quote was. I'm 70% sure it will be AVB, apparently they were interested in him before Chelsea signed him.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I think if you did a poll you would find that by and large the people who like Rafa, never wanted Dalglish. And the Dalglish fans don't want Rafa back. So not sure about you're last paragraph.

Aside from that you're fears will never be realized as there is no way Rafa will be in the dugout at Anfield next season.

It WILL be AVB. Why aren't people talking about him?

    ReplyDelete
  138. ignoring your ridiculously unbalanced views of Benitez, Just relax. There is no way in hell that FSG would appoint him. It will be AVB...Guaranteed.

    ReplyDelete
  139. He's right! I hadn't thought of that....this makes it all so easy!

    ReplyDelete
  140. You can easily see on here the people who live in the past and are so out of touch with the premier league as it is today. Either except it or support a championship side for godsake. Cannot believe the deluded lot are not blaming the players...does that mean spearing, downing are the innocent parties and gave their all to the club......wake up people and learn to except the reality of football. The players are totally accountable here, with the ever shocking shift in footballers salaries over the last 15 years.... players have to show a return on the investment much sooner. If u cant understand that or except it well ur in for a rough ride then. STOP LIVING IN THE PAST AS IT WILL ALWAYS BRING TROUBLE AND FAILURE!!

    ReplyDelete
  141. To be honest I think it's a good thing that they've cleared out from top to bottom, although I'm sad Dalglish was sacked, especially for the local fans who grew up watching him.

But anyway, it means that they can appoint somebody without sentiment  clouding their sense of judgement. They never wanted Dalglish. Let's be honest. The fans left them no choice. They wanted a young manager and I believe that they'll get one this Summer. I also find it hard to believe they don't have an advisor working for them. Let's hope it's not the same one who appointed Comolli though!

  146. Just read that FSG are in talks with AVB about the job. Personally, I'd like to see him get it if only to try and prove to Roman that he can actually manage a football team, that would be his motivation.
My first choice is Capello. He's won the league with every team he has managed.

    ReplyDelete
  155. How about all the owners who would not appoint Dalglish ever.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I'd settle for that. A man on a mission with a point to prove. Next year's cup final, against Chelsea, will be different. And, can we have Meireles back? And Torres? When Suarez does one to spain, we'll get Torres back, who won't abuse anyone and who will be the new fans favourite. If it all goes wrong, we can always appoint Rafa or Kenny again to keep the various loyalist factions happy.

    ReplyDelete
  157. If i don't want to talk business you should get into conference level football. It's not your money, so if you don't understand what the money men are trying to achieve it is going to be very hard for you to keep up.

    ReplyDelete
  158. mourn? humanity? you are talking about a bunch of football fans, ffs. You know, that group of grown men who stand about shouting abuse to all and sundry who don't play for or manage our team. That's all fine, if people like that kind of thing, but nothing is more irritating than a picture of a grown man, who you know has been giving dog's abuse all season, crying when his team goes down. If i need humanity to mourn a guy who has just received a massive pay off, then i have my priorities wrong. Sure, it is a shame he did not take the job they offered him but, ultimately, that was his choice. He was a legend of a player but not up to management in the 21st century. Not in the day and age of the Champions League.

    ReplyDelete
  159. A lot of the Kenny loyalists will find out whatever the problem is, ignore it and let the roof cave in.

    ReplyDelete
  161. iam happy with how they have acted since they took over, they have provided funds yes alot wasted by DC KK but they still provided us funds, they have given Kenny time, yes not years but enough time, now lets say they had of given KK till xmas, what are the odds of a top draw gaffer being available mid season slim and none,so they have done what the majority of fans cant seem to do and they have looked at cold hard facts, our bread and butter, the league 8th place, 6 home wins all season and they have acted with there heads not there hearts, take away KK hero status take away his affiliation with LFC and he would of been sacked as fast as woy was,the owners have looked past all that and the simple answer is we havnt been good enough, weather its luck, tactics that has cost us the buck stops with the manager.....

its time for FSG to put there stamp on the club, bring in THERE people and THERE manager, people say KK should of got more time just because of who he is well imo FSG need more time and our trust after saving this club from the previous tenants and from the brink of well its not even worth thinking about, they r not stupid men and have done all this before in a number of sporting ventures.....

Lets get the vacancys filled and move forward, get behind them all and fingers crossed we finish higher than 8th next season.....
