Setti: €20m Uruguayan LFC target is a 'born champion'. Reds in pole position...?

Uruguay international Gaston Ramirez has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield over the last year, and speculation heightened recently with the revelation by his Agent, Pablo Betancourt, that the Bologona winger is negotiating a deal with a 'major English side'. Now, seemingly resigned to losing the player this summer, Bologna Vice-President Maurizio Setti has confirmed that Ramirez is definitely for sale.

In an interview with Sky Sports Italia this week, Setti revealed:

"For Ramirez, the negotiations start with at least €20m, but I doubt any Italian clubs will come in with that fee. At the moment the biggest interest has come from the Premier League and the Bundesliga.

"There have been a lot of inquiries, as well as scouts who have come to observe him. Ramirez is a player who will make a difference to any team because he is a born champion"

Let's hope Liverpool are the 'major English club' negotiating with Ramirez. €20m is a lot of money, but it's comparatively meagre when you consider some of the ridiculously infated figures being thrown around for the likes of Eden Hazard and Leandro Damiao.

After the failure of Stewart Downing this season, many fans would argue that Liverpool's biggest transfer priority this season should be the purchase of a top-class winger.

Hopefully, with Uruguayan stars Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates already at Anfield, Liverpool will be pole position to snap Ramirez up ahead the likes of Man United and Arsenal.

  5. 20million euros I don't think it's to much considering we paid same for Downing and same for Henderson. Surely he has to b better than both.

  10. Yeah i  think it's time that Liverpool stopped buying players who have potential for greatness and started  buying players who are already great. Downing ,  Henderson , and the like were bought at outrageous sums of money simply because they were younger and they have potential for greatness one day. It is very obvious from results this season that we will pay a price while we wait for these players to become great. We need more proven talent, we need players who have already established themselves at a higher level. Gaston Ramirez is a player who at 22 has a higher foot-balling IQ than Henderson, Carrol, Downing, and Adams combined. He is light years ahead of this players in development. True of a lot of talent from latin America, Ramirez may have been born with a ball at his feet. He is very comfortable on the ball, capable of taking his man one on one, or overtaking him with his blistering pace. He is a winger who can also play  up front as a second striker slightly behind the striker. Scoring comes naturally for this guy. His skill level will make him a starter on any of the top clubs in Europe or the world for the that matter. By pursuing this player Kenny has demonstrated that getting back to winning ways is priority number one next season. I think Ramirez represents the kind of talent that has been missing at Anfield for far too long. Get him Kenny

  11. Ramirez is the same age as David Hoilett, and his rate of production during the past 3 seasons is also about the same (one end product about every 200 minutes on the pitch).  Hoilett is PL proven and available on a free transfer this summer.

Liverpool`s ambitions should be far higher.  We need a real quality winger, someone who produces assists  and goals at the rate of a David Silva, Juan Mata, or Nani (i.e. an end product every 125 minutes or so).  Potential options that may be available at the right price this summer  are Hazard, Gaitan, Kagawa, or even Adam Johnson.  20M would probably get Kagawa, and throw in Hoilett on a free as a back-up or for the other side.  Ramirez is over-hyped, overpriced, under-productive, and makes no sense.

  12. No,  I don't....but he's worth about 12m MAX!

  13. No, we bought them because they were "premiership proven". Which all that meant was that they had one good season. Or in Andy Carroll's case, a good six months. What was KD thinking? I am so angry though, that 120m was spent on such rubbish. Will we get to have another overhaul this summer? I personally wouldn't trust KD with half that much money again and wonder if Fenway feel the same.

Aside from the fact that Ramirez is NO WINGER,we(LFC)can't wait for players to be the final product and buy them for a boat of money,so definetly(imo) we have to act fast and grab him,Luuk de Jong and a classy winger like Adam Johnson if the rumors are true or Afellay, the 3 of them,i think we can afford,or try with Hoilett if a bargain is required about the cash(without forget that Sterling is coming, and if good enough,he'll need timeplay and space)

  15. None of those are potential options, you live in dream land... City, Utd and Chelsea are first in line for those players and most of them wouldn't even think about joining LFC right now....

Ramierz is cut from the same clouth as Suarez unline Johnson and Harzard both his attiutude and work rate is impeccable, Ramirez is twice the player of David Hoilett, as he has the game intelligence of someone alot older and wiser combined with flair, quick feet, two-footed and accurate finishing.

He is a player that would grow and move the club forward. Hoillet is not.

  16.  Please god I hope Liverpool get him, he looks perfect for the premier league. I just hope Kenny isn't looking at a more hard-working tough type of player with less skill...

  17.  They play well together for the Uruguay side, I'd say they're friends by now..

  18. Sorry mate, not dissing you but there's 2 posts from people who hve seen a lot of this kid and they are saying that he is awesome and would link up fantastically with Suarez. Hoilett can come to our club as well but isn't he one of the new breed of 'Champions League' or bust players?

The way I see it, every transfer is a gamble. There are so many factors which can affect every  player when they move to a new club/city/country/continent that have to be weighed up. I'd be more inclined to sign a new player on account of a fellow countryman being at the club already to help the new guy settle easier and, with Suarez and Coates already at the club, this could be a factor for him.

  19. how have you come up with that figure ??? won't be more than £20mil if we don't sell anyone

    ReplyDelete
  20. I like the fact that his agent states "But I doubt there will be any Italian Clubs will come in at that fee"....could this be due to the fact that they don't rate him that highly?

  21. the i talians don't seem to spend as much money on players as the epl this is why the epl is getting to be one of the best if not the best leagues in the world.

  22. you must remember he dives too so get use to it.
from one of the toughest countries in the world Uruguay we seem to have changed in the past 10 years, me personally like the old Uruguay stile kill to win dye winning...20 national trophies tops the world of football a mighty Uruguay.

    ReplyDelete
  23. He is worth more than that simply because of his age and the fact he is an English player, a striker who will probably feature in English national team.

12 mil. for Downing should have been max.

  24. I'm not sure why Man.Utd. is mentioned as one of the interested party's if he is a winger.

They should improve but a winger is not what they need, even when Giggs retires they still have enough wingers.

  25. if the Italians rate him at 20 million his true value is about 8 million ...that's how they work....ripping of clubs like Liverpool...wake up and smell the coffee you mugs

  26. 20 million? Give them Aquallani to them for exchange of Gaston.
