Insult to Injury: After the FA Cup defeat, more bad news for Liverpool FC...

After FA Cup heartbreak against Chelsea yesterday, things have gone from bad to worse for Liverpool today, with Fulham's victory against Sunderland pushing the Reds into 9th place in the Premier League.

Reputed Liverpool target Clint Dempsey was on the scoresheet again for Fulham again today, which makes it 30 goals and assists for the American this season.

Liverpool currently have 49 points, which means the maximum points total achievable is 55. Gerard Houllier's team finished on 54 points in the 1998-99 season, but apart from that, it has been decades since a Liverpool side finished with a lower points total.

Hopefully, the club can win its last two games against Chelsea and Swansea to end the season on a positive note, but it's going to be a tough. The players will be demotivated after the FA Cup final defeat, and there's nothing else to play for in the league.

Chelsea, however, are still gunning for 4th place, and Swansea will be trying to finish as high up the league as they can, and they'll want to end the season with a home win for their fans. After yesterday's defeat, Steven Gerrard said:

"We're Liverpool Football Club; we're not seventh or eighth in the league. We're better than that"

The club *should* be better than that but the table does not lie: after spending 144m on transfers over the last 18 months, Liverpool are 9th, and it's depressing to admit it, but the club deserves to be there.

Fulham do not necessarily have better players than us but they have much better chemistry.  Jol builds his sides on pace and flair.  We build our teams on work rate and stats.

I have never dated a girl based only on her passed relationships.  I have to like what I see and hear.

  2. That delusional statement by Gerrard looks so much like Dalglish's ridiculous post-match assessments of the team playing 'fantastically well'. We are where we are, names and history don't get you anywhere without proper job done.

  3. FSG's investment is on the slide. No doubt in my mind Henry and Werner are discussing a respectful exit strategy for Daglish.  Don't see how they can let this continue.   Totally unacceptable after the investment made. Sick and tired of liverpool managers wasting colossal amounts of money in the transfer market.  20 years of gross financial mismanagement.  9th in the league. It's hard to look at the table.  Liverpool fans aren't stupid. Take your sentimental hat off. We need a new manager

  4. Rafa Benitez 4-1 to be the next manager at lfc....good news at last and bookies are generally right

  5. The depressing thing is the constant harrassment of Dalglish on this site. He's building a new liverpool side! Liverpool have never been a club to sack managers if one season has not gone their way. If you like it that way, I suggest you take a good look at Chelsea FC. It looks like something for you.

  12. Have you forgot we didn,t qualify for the champions league and thats the reason we parted company with rafa.

  13. This season is a big failure for LFC. Now I would like to see what decision FSG would make. I hope FSG bring back Rafa and with all respect Kenny have enough time to prove his tactic, management and buying player.

  14. rafa will not come back the fenway group will let the new director of football decide the new manager and it will be someone who will match the directors vision for the future. its hard to see KK survive as fenway just dont have the confidence in his buys, even though the young ones like carrol and henderson are just kids and need time, remember the player rafa bought who we said should never play in a liverpool shirt when he was just 21 and learning ?

How about stop whining and support your damned team it didnt work out so what? Are we Man Utd fans or Chelsea fans that scream and shout and throw a tantrum because things havent gone right?
No we are Liverpool fans and should show some  Dignity stop whining and look forward instead of backwards we get up dust ourselves off and carry on.

  17. KD will not be sacked and will see out the rest of his contract. LFC are not a manager of the month club like Chelsea. It's been a disappointing season even with the League cup win and the new signings haven't lived up to expectations but KD has already said it's a work in progress. A few QUALITY signings during the summer should turn things around. Next season, if we start bludgeoning other teams into humiliating defeats ( OK, so that's a big if ), will all those who have been calling for the sacking of KD be the ones singing his praises?

  19. The signings were not good enough.Thats why we are mid table

    ReplyDelete
  20. As Rafa said after the 2006/2007 Champions League final "we need to spend big and we need to spend now", in the unattractive postion we are in the only way to attract top players is to make a statement like City did with Robinho. In addition to Luuk De Jong We need to go out and get 2 or 3 top bracket: Higuian, Martinez, Hulk type signings in the coming window.

I cannot see the owners sanctioning such moves as they have a project whereby they are looking to generate 1st team players by filling the academy and reserves with top youngsters. This is a long term project based on business model that will not bear fruit for years and in my opinion will make the next 2 seasons at least quite depressing.

Yes the owners spent 40m net (as per last accounts) but the squad value was and is still not valuable enough to be considered top 4, and thats before you consider the players bought have underperformed compared to their respective transfer fees.

Newcastle have bought exceptionally well but they are an anomolly as very rarely do so many signings work out let alone overperform and exceed their transfer values.

Like it or not it all comes down to money... the new DOF or Kenny has to identify the best possible players for the club and the owners have to back him now or become a mid table team that produces great young talent after 3-5 years which will enevitably get poached by the Champions League clubs.

  21. a lot of criticism because Chelsea change managers, most important thing is to be successful, im 21 never seen us properly challenge for a prolonged period so kind of use to failure now. We should stick by Kenny even if we arent a top half team anymore... YNWA We have History!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Kenny has had one season. After the Carling Cup final we were well placed in the league, not far off fourth place on points. We then went on a disasterous run of league games where we couldn't buy a point. This happened to coincide with the loss of Daniel Agger at centre back. Without a strong centre midfield general we lacked the ability to play the ball from the back. Everyone talks about needing wingers and strikers. We have those, Downing will come good, Sterling will break through and will be great, Carroll will come good and Suarez will hit the net more times than he hits the woodwork. Then all the nay sayers will shut up. Everyone should get behind the club. People who are now saying Kenny doesn't know what he's doing weren't saying that this time last year. If anyone thinks they are hurting at our poor league performance and feels let down by underperforming players, then they should put themselves in Kenny's shoes as he will be feeling more let down than anyone. Football is a very strange game and things can turn around very quickly. If they make the right decisions this summer and get the right quality of player that Liverpool really need, in centre midfield, then we will be much stronger next season.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think sacking the manager would be stupid. Say we appoint another manager, and he gets it wrong, where will we be? I think we should stick with KD until the end of the next season.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Our season pretty much just crumbled once we lost Lucas. We just lacked balance in midfield. Henderson, Adam and Gerrard are all more attacking players, the only person who can do a similar job to Lucas is Spearing and he's just not able to/ready.

Defensive midfield coverage should be one of the top things LFC targets this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Continue wanking and walking alone dumb fags. As much a I respect Liverpoop's history. KD is just a freaking retard stuck in the 80s-90s era. Look at his crap tactics. The board of directors should just get him a copy of Football Manager and get him on his way out. Just cut loss at a minimum. KD is just filling up the team sheet with 11 names week in week out without even making full use of the squad's potential. He could have easily set up Carroll upfront with Suarez behind him. Bellamy on the left and Kuyt on the right with Gerrard and Henderson holding out the midfield.

So what if he was a legend? He is just causing the club to rot even more and down to the sewers. Keep him for 2 more seasons and Liverpoop would be in Championship or if not Division 1.

    KTBFFH! 2-1 SUCKAS

  26. Let's back the team for the rest of he games left and let's let The Fenway Sorts Group decide the way forward for the club at the end of the season. I am sure that whatever they decide will be in the interest of the club; and all of us must respect it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'll like to see him there for the foreseeable future, but, I can't see things changing while he is still in-charge.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Roy Hodgson was sacked for less than a season so your assertion is bollocks. And KD is building a new Liverpool side that is mediocre. Time to dig your head out of the sand.

    ReplyDelete
  29. There was already a vendetta in place for Rafa by the previous owners who thought bringing in Hodgson - because he is English - would have quitened down the fans, while they went about their shady businesses of trying to profit on the back of our great club.

    ReplyDelete
  30. We all want success, but success cannot always be instant. For all those people looking at Newcastle, let's see how they do next term.

Liverpool need to buy. More quality in the centre of midfield is an absolute must. We expect Lucas back for next season, but another quality defensive midfielder would not go amiss. Apart from a Gerrard who is no longer able to carry the team, the remaining central midfielders lack the requisite quality as of now. It goes without saying that a goal-scorer and a winger or two need to be recruited. Can we afford this? That is the question.

I'm indifferent as to whether Kenny continues. The continuity and passion he has for the club are reasons to keep him. Furthermore, no matter how much people want to slag off Liverpool, they have totally played some of their opponents off the park this season - something to build on. If the goals accompanied the pressure, surely the EPL table would look very different right now. My concern about kenny rests with who he wants to bring to Anfield in the summer and whether his name, along with the other factors that usually attract players to a club, is enough of a draw. Lack of recent major success, distant history and only moderate sums of money available may not bring players of sufficient quality.

I would be surprised if FSG bring Benitez back as surely they rejected this option when they removed Hodgson and hired Dalglish in the first place. Why bring him back now?

It's not only been the signings that weren't good enough. Team tatics have been abysmal and the ability to make a timely and telling substitution have been none exsistent. For example, why did it take so long to make the first change in the game yesterday. It was blatantly obvious that the tactics and performance in the first half were crap and changes should have been made before the break . If Gerrard sincerely believes that we don't deserve to be where we are in the league, then he is deluded. After all the dire performances churned out this season we are lucky to still be in the top ten. Totally unacceptable !!

  34. And a whole new team at that!!!!This current squad, with the exception of 6 or 7 players,WILL NEVER EVER get us back into a CHAMPIONS LEAGUE spot in EUROPE(and don`t all you suckered in LFC fans saying we`ve got siverware and we`re in the Europa League next season get me started!!!)I`ve supported LFC for 40 years...this is the lowest, the worst team I have ever seen in my time of watching Liverpool play...NO DENYING IT,NO EXCUSES...THE EPL TABLE DOES NOT LIE...9TH FFS!!!!!THE EPL 38 GAME SEASON is what measures a clubs success,NOT A LUCKY MICKEY MOUSE CUP WIN AGAINST A 2ND DIV SIDE ON PENS..unless we get a massive injection of new investment in players and a revamped stadium of the ground quick smart,I see no change for LFC next season or beyond....we will continue to languish in mid table mediocrity. To all the deluded LFC fans who think Kenny(great player...not manager by the way!!),can do no wrong, and we`ve had a great season and we`ll just spend another 20 years in transition while we wait for things to come right`,trust you are enjoying our successful EPL ,likely below Everton and Fulham finish in 9th,maybe even 10th place....right!!!!!

  47. the last three managers have for some bizarre reason, bought players and played them out of position. kuyt was a striker when bought, played in midfield. henderson, centre midfield, played out wide-ish. adam,???? let onto the field of play. we all know we need wingers, but don't play that way, even when we get a couple, downing, babel. we are poor and will be for a while to come. an exceptionally depressing thought really.

    ReplyDelete
  48. complete cr#p. anyone who understands the game can understand we had players on the bench that should have been playing and why play everton the right way and beat them convincingly.
story of the whole season .
its not losing but how you lose, and kenny sadly offers nothing.
no great tactics and no respect for players who deserve to be playing who are stuck on the bench, but mainly he cant get any fight out the team.............FOR 90 MINS!!!
look forward insted of backwards??? were going backwards though so how can we look forward??

things wont get better under kenny sadly

  51. kd will always be a hero, but his 'new build' consists of below average,expensive,non-achievers. come on! charlie fu*king adam!?!?!?!? pathetic. downing??? huh? if he can't deduce that football isn't still in the 80's and that the english ban on european football has ended. top players don't all go to the italian league anymore, they do come to these shores for a reasonable price (see newcastle utd), then he must be ushered upstairs.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think some people are missing the point of what Gerrard was saying. What he meant was that the stature, size and reputation of LFC (on the whole), means that they should never be so low in the league. He isn't saying that this season we should be higher - just in general.
We deserve to be where we are this season and it all comes down to one glaring factor amongst others - finishing chances off.
We have created so many chances this season. We have dominated matches and not capitalised on chances created. We have also been very inconsistent. One game we own it, then like the FA Cup final, we don't turn up for 65 minutes- then we completely dominate Chelsea because we have to chase the game. This 30 minute spell shows we do have the players to compete, even if we all don't fully rate our current team. They just didn't turn up for whatever reason and it's not acceptable to a fan. Too little too late.
I can take losing if we show desire to win. You can say its one of those things etc. Had we not stepped it up, I would be devastated that we just basically rolled over and let chelsea win. They weren't better than us. They didn't do anything spectacular themselves to be scared of. They just took their chances- and that is what we miss this season.
Carroll for all the slagging off he has had changed the game for us as soon as he came on. I truly believe he can come good. He leads the line, occupies defenders and that gives Suarez, Gerrard the space to capitalise and put pressure on the opposition. He only played 11 times or so for newcastle in the premier league. Thats not a lot of games and then he moves to LFC. I think people don't understand that. Yes he hasn't been what we would expect from a £35M striker, but he will come good. He was our best player and he played just 30 mins.
We have gone from Mascherano and Alonso in central midfield, to Spearing and Henderson. Massive gulf in quality there. Charlie Adam is a squad player at best also.
If at all possible our owners desperately need to try to offload - Joe Cole, Aqualani, Maxi, Kuyt, Aurelio just to trim the wage bill - prob £300k a week just there. Then we need quality investment in midfield. Players with presence and desire. Drive and determination.
Lucas is sorely missed. I hope he can come back and bed back into the team. We need an athletic physical and composed central midfielder to compete with Lucas in central midfield like Javi Martinez/ Moussa Sissoko/ Y'ann M'Vila for example. If we are to play two up front then Gerrard can play alongside - but knowing he has a quality player next to him will mean he can concentrate on supporting the forwards.
Then we need wingers again. Every season I cry out for skilful wingers/forwards. All successful teams have these types of players. We need players who have an end product, who are direct. Downing has been poor. At 27 and experience in the perm he has been so poor for me. Flashes of what he can do, but not nearly often enough.
I needed to get that off my mind. Now i can look forward to next season with optimism - but mostly hope we don't squander our transfer budget again. Please don't buy players using opta stats!!!! Instinct is far better. You can players and gauge whether they are good or not.............

    ReplyDelete
  53. All you deluded want this want that as if going to CL will help us. That has been the problem all along wanting quick fix which has got us no where. We need a couple seasons to make the team right not just your stupid quick fix. Man City was bought in 2009 and how long has it taken them to challenge for the title.

  54. When Hodgson was hired he was asked about his target he said i don't give myself targets. 60. I agree on the A and B team being made distinct. We do have a strong starting 8 or 9 when all fit... I see Charlie Adam, Downing, enrique, as strong B players, henderson and Carroll as B team players who can develop as Lucas did.

Yes we overpaid for Downing, Carrol and Henderson last season but the KK campaign needs to be put into perspective in that we loaned Aquilani and Cole out before the season even started and Miereles left on DEADLINE DAY. That was a blow. Lucas ACL injury was another big blow to our midfield.

The team needs a creative attacking midfielder, we also need a marquee striker to take pressure off Carroll, sell Kuyt, Maxi and Cole, bring in a right winger and or/Left Back and let this years signings be the B team players they really are.. Our squad is relatively young, they will imporove.

We hit the post a ridiculous number of times (over 30) have a very good chance creation stat, and very poor conversion. Our defence was also one of the stingiest.... Yes this campaign was a failure, no questions about it, but Kenny needs another run at the beginning of next season. let's see how he rotates a settled squad with a few additions, one thing's for sure, he knows how to get us to a final!! YNWA

  61. Chelsea sacked their manager and have never looked back. The new manager has completely changed their luck too. My God he has! I just hope Bayern stuff them. As for building a new side - if you want a side built around Henderson then you deserve all the humiliation coming your way. And there's plenty of it. KD has picked his team on favouritism all season and deserves to be booted out mercilessly. He did fantastic things in the seventies and eighties and nobody knows that better than me. But this season has been absolutely disgraceful.

    ReplyDelete
  62. No, we don't. This season has been utterly disgraceful and he deserves no more chances. I am not a Rafa fan by the way. Can't stand the bloke.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Have it your way, let kenny buy cattermole, holt and some other dross and take us down to the championship.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Leaving Dalglish in charge for another season would be a disaster for Liverpool. I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave before the start of the new season. He is tactically impotent, a terrible judge of player and definately isn't this godly motivator that people believe him to be. Until we went 2-0 down in the final most of the players on the pitch didn't look like they wanted to be there. He lost the players a long time ago in my humble opinion. With every game, they look like they are going through the motions.

Relegation form since the new year. Simply not good enough for money in and out of the club since September. The owners must be having kittens over his atrocious management of the finances/ players in and out. This is probably the harshest criticism i could give Kenny. But, i honestly think Roy is tactically more adept at managing Liverpool. For the record, i never thought Hodgson was right for the job. I've always had reservations about him taking the job. GREAT, if he succeeds. If he doesn't, well..... You thought Rafa polarised fans opinions? This will make Rafa's demise look like a tea party.

  65. Sack FOOLGLISH ASAP !!! Spearing & Henderson in midfield at Wembley, all fans new the writing was on the wall ??? FOOLGLISH OUT...his tactics are questionable as are his substitutions,we was crap for 55 minutes, and it took going two down for the FOOLGLISH to change the side and finally take crap Spearing off ??? Spearing Henderson or downing should leave with FOOLGLISH facts...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Gerrard was a magnificent player. He is coming to the end of his amazingly lucrative career. Why rock the boat? Of course he knows the team is crap. The man is not a complete fool. He's played with enough top players - and against enough - to know that Henderson is a telentless jerk, that Adam is fourth rate, that Downing is totally mediocre, that Spearing is Sunday league at best etc etc. But clearly he's not going to come out and say it. It's a pity he doesn't but it clearly isn't going to happen. Incidentally, if you saw Gerrard's face before the match yesterday it was the face of a man who knows his side is going to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  67. My guess would be we will be very near the bottom of the table by then. About seventeenth or so. Another year of Spearing and Henderson is another year of playing with two complete passengers. Another year of Reina gifting a goal every three or four games. Gerrard another year older and even less likely to make an impact than this season. Yep, about sixteenth or thereabouts.

    ReplyDelete
  68. No, we are not United or Chelsea fans. Their teams win things. Ours doesn't. Their teams have players - ours has Henderson and Spearing. No, you're right - I can see the difference.

Kenny is laying foundations for the future, not for immedaite success...and the signs are there that they will come good, given a sprinkling of freshening up over the summer.

So much more I want to say but it will be wasted on you so I'm not going to bother.

You'll Never Walk Alone clearly means nothing to you.

Reina - One bad season does NOT make him a bad keeper.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and get a grip...we're in desperate need of a change of luck, a striker and a winger or two....and the benefit of a full season under their belts the young lads will (and have) come on leaps and bounds.

The signs are there...we WILL come good next season.

In a "rebuilding season" aimed at laying the foundations for the future we have reached two finals, winning one.

Having dominated most teams this season that is a major sign that, in general, they are good enough.

Consistency will come if we remain consistent with our manager and the plans he has started to put in place...ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY.

After everything we've seen from him this season and his ineptness in the transfer market  - how can so many of you be convinced that if given another season kenny will turn us into a world beating team and that he'll suddenly become shrewder in the market than alan carrs dad is at NUFC ?

apart from the new manager honeymoon we saw last season from late january till the end of April  - we've seen nothing from him in the league this year and he's stayed this long on the love of the fans and the fact that he is LFC  - no manager in the world would have us at 9th in the league and still have the fans wanting one more season  - one more season like this one could see us as the new Villa , so be careful what you wish for and dont let sentimentality cloud your judgement  - again !

  75. Get a grip and look at how we have dominated teams this season, have been the unluckiest team BY A COUNTRY MILE and look at the progress we have made under Kenny, who has laid foundations for the future...not for immediate success and continual high spending that would damage thelong term good of the club.

2 Cup Finals, winning one and unlucky not to force extra time in the other when we were battering chevski are positives.

Think about where we were about 2 years ago, where we could have been had FSG not stepped in...IN ADMINISTRATION according to Purslow...who is a Liverpool Season Ticket Holder so no reason to disbelieve him.

The future is bright, this season is nearly history.......

  81. Totally agree. It is not down to the players. It is about deployment and tactics. Excuse after excuse given. Other clubs like Arsenal,MU and Cheslea all use the same players but they are consistent and even improve a lot. Since King Kenny is the legend, he seems more important the club. This being the case, just let him another two seasons to run the club. By then, CL is already becoming a thing of the past.

A Liverpool Legend (player, player-manager & manager) as manager.

Financial Fair Play Rules coming into the equation to level the playing field in terms of expenditure.

  86. With Dalglish as manager of LFC, I can't help but think of "bring in the clowns" whenever we play. LFC will always be the club I love, and thats why I am so adament about having Dalglish replaced. There needs to be a change which will get us back above the rest where Liverpool belong, and that is an impossible task under Dalglish. As for the team, Spearing lost my respect after he more or less butchered the FA cup and the others seemed to be absent minded in the first 45min. Point is the only thing that will help our club is change, wether that be managerial change and/or player improvements, we need it bad. YNWA!!!!!

You say Dalglish has no dignity or pride, yet he sacrificed his own health for this club and it's supporters. Never forget that.

And he put his reputation on the line to come back and try to help the club in it's hour of need. He could have just whiled away his days playing golf in La Manga, but he wanted to help. No, he felt it was his DUTY to help.

People like you make me sick. Liverpool Football Club is just another fashion accessory to you, something to brag to your mate(s) down the pub, or have a "my team is considerably better than yours" bet with some like-minded Soccer AM-loving mug at work.

  90. Lets face it, the Club's fcuked, FSG will ask Kenny to leave, they will then bring Rafa back and LFC will be no more....

Just a foreign plastic representatiion of what it used to be, with greedy short sighted owners who no doubt just want to turn a buck... and a vindictive and issue ridden manager (if Rafa returns..) who is totally bereft of the Liverpool Way and who will favour largely foreign players and stifle any local youth....

Yep, it looks to me like we're going to go back in time...granted our league form has been poor, but the Cup runs have been entertaining and had we turned up for the game against Chelsea instead of certain players sabotaging the game i.e. Reina Enrique and Suarez for the first hour just like they did at against Cardiff....then we probably would have won, but that wouldn't have fitted the agenda....which was for us to lose....so that Kenny would lose his job and then miraculously (not...) our saving grace and messiah aka Rafa will step to the fore.....

    Happys days....eh Reina???

Way to go, pave the way for Rafa's return, do the groundwork, make Kenny look totally inept and make his signings look like crap by not linking up with them etc ALL season.....job done.

As long as FSG are aware that many fans will not be happy with a removal of Kenny Dalglish and a replacement of rafa benitez esp because it is he who would have masterminded Kenny's downfall.....being such good friends with Reina etc.....

    Nice...

    ReplyDelete
  92. Actually, it was the Government's fault.

Tax laws meant that although his wages increased significantly during his time with LFC, any rise in pay was effectively negated by the tax he was paying. He probably found it increasingly difficult to get by on £70K a week, so opted to move back home, where he could hoard his nest-egg.

I really liked Xabi, but remember a few interviews where he kept harping on about how much tax he was paying compared to what he would have to fork out if he moved back to Spain. I think blaming Rafa was a convenient smokescreen.

Rafa must return. He had to sell Alonso (30 mil) to buy and to build a bigger squad, however things went bad because Barry (free transfer) didn't want to go to Liverpool. Imagine if we have Barry for free and use the 30 mil to buy David Silva (Valencia didn't want to sell him cheap)and others we could easily win the league.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Get a grip and look at the league table. WHAT PROGRESS you dimwit? Obviously a blind follower of KD and not of the club.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Just curious who YOU would have played in centre-mid, Dean? And don't say Shelvey, because then Gerrard would have had to be the holding player leaving Suarez ever more isolated.

Everyone moans about the tactical acumen of Dalglish, but when he DOES try something different (such as Agger on the left instead of Enrique in the Semi) everyone still moans because it 'Nearly' cost us the game.

The same goes for Bellamy. All the 'knowledgeable' fans on this site clamoured for Craig to start, but he was very quiet. Yet when used as an impact sub against Everton, he stretched them and set up the winner.

Would you have taken Spearing off after his first mistake in the 11th minute? Or would you have hoped he could keep his chin up and get a grip of midfield?

Other than that, a well-written post.

  107. Fractions and luck. If Carroll's goal had edged a further inch we may have gone on to win the FA cup as Chelsea were on the ropes after a long hard season. The difference between Liverpool winning a lot of their games this season has been fractions and luck, will a new manager make them fractions smaller and the luck luckier?
I like the football Liverpool are playing, I like the character and unity displayed by everyone from the cleaner to the owners, I like the fact that the manager understands Liverpool and what it means to the fans. I like a lot of the players, I like that we have been to Wembley 3 times this season, I like despite being close to administration only a short while ago that we are now stable and growing as a brand.
There are lots of things to like about the current Liverpool, the style of play and ambition are evident, all we are missing is more wins on the board. When the fractions and luck change I think we will have that and we will then have another thing to like about our great football club. Keep the faith, our good times are not as far away as the critics seem to think.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hodgson was even worse. I remember the games. Dalglish started the season strong, had the team ticking and playing good stuff, the results weren't there. But Hodgson, i'm laughing right now that he is England manager, because he had the team playing like headless chickens in almost every game!

    ReplyDelete
  109. deluded, if we won that game in 90 mins we wouldnt of deserved it. matched them in the middle of the park?? hahaha thats the funniest thing ive read yet. we had 2 headless boys running round out there depth, as for gerrard i think he was reserving his energy for extra time, or he clearly doesnt have the legs for it anymore, baring in mind hes been injured most this season.
we made a cr#p player like mikel look great, and lampard and mata ran the show easily with no pressure. ive writen all this and you still wont get it lol

  112. bellamy along with suarez was quiete, just look how deep we were playing. they had no chance.
id of played spearing and gerrard in centre, with carroll playing 4-4-2. like we did against everton and we looked good for it. why change?? kenny messed up big time simple as that

    ReplyDelete
  113. The reasons we parted with Rafa was because people had unrealistic expectations. People expected Rafa to take the team to top 4 but he didn't because a number of reasons outside his control that many many fans are oblivious to. Its funny because now with Kenny in charge, there is a expectation even greater than before to get into top 4 with what was spent. Unlike Rafa, Kenny has no excuses apart from the Suarez debacle and Lucas injury. People can say Gerrard has been out injured but he is 32 now, what about when he was out injured for Benitez's last season, with Torres being injured when he WAS fit to play. They must only have played 20 times that whole season together I think.

I have trust in Rafa to succeed if he is backed, but I think FSG will not have him in because knowing Rafa he will go for foreign talent meaning higher wages probably. Dalglish used 16 million on Henderson, 8 mil on Adam. Alonso cost 11 mill. That tells me enough.

    ReplyDelete
  114. like we deserved to win?? like we deserve to be further up the table?? hilarious.
were 5 top players away from anywhere near 4th and who is gona want to sign??

    ReplyDelete
  115. Yeah I find it funny because Rafa had the same approach with his team. He didn't care if he spent millions on a player, if he found out he wasn't good enough he was made as a B team player. Such hypocrisy, if Kenny did the same would you be saying he mishandled players too? Before his last season, Alonso played like  B team player that was the only reason why Benitez wanted to sell him to buy a player for the "A" team. Again there was a lack of funds, and keeping players happy which is why he decided to move Alonso on. Benitez didn't have the luxury to have a strong squad but only a strong first 11.

The only difference between Kenny and Benitez was that Kenny puts trust in his players. With Benitez however the players had to earn his trust.

    ReplyDelete
  116. So many armchair fans creating negativity around the club. Casing point - too many tourists at Anfield taking pictures all game long and not getting behind the team and actually singing. The atmosphere at Anfield these days is awful down to this. The team play better when there is more passion from the fans in the ground. Also does this website ever have any positive articles to offer? For me this LFC website wins the award of most miserable and negative out there.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Haha you are the dimwit...read the above again...Kenny & FG have, together, brought progression to the club....they ca only be judged from the time they joined the club or in Kenny's case, when he was appointed manager.

I'm not comparing the current plight to the 80's...perhaps I should have made that clear so you could wake up and stop dreaming of the halcyon days..I remember them too, and lord knows I would like them back!

    ReplyDelete
  120. You mis-interpret my comments which were a direct response to your views experessed...

"Matching up" means in terms of team selection prior to the game he played 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 whichever way you choose to look at it. The fact remains he matched up 3 in the middle of the park with Gerrard, Spearing & Henderson...meaning Carroll had to sit it out.

It by no way implied that we outplayed Chelsea in midfield in any way shape or form...not for the first 55 minutes anyhow...when he was forced to change things in order to save the game.

Oh and by the way "playing the right way" as you call it..whatdoes that mean?

Kenny's tactics were deployed for playing Chelsea, not Everton. He faced a dilemma and ot even he could predict the deensive mistakes that lead to the goal(s).

Had he played 4-4-2 (as you suggest) we would most likely have been over-run in the middle of the park.

As the old football cliche goes...win the battle in the midde of the park and you win the game. That was his aim.

So, now you see..you are the funny one! Read properly next time, and think before you try to ridicule.

  123. Wrong - Rafa was sacked because he wasn't a yes man, because he stood up for the values of the football club, wanted continual investment in order to continue competing...because he could see we had started to fall behind in terms of investment.

So I guess that the millions of "LFC fans" that cannot afford to travel to Liverpool from another country are not "true fans"? It is narrow-minded xenophobic "fans" like yourself that gives the rest of the supporters a bad name. If it weren't for the countless fans around the world, where would the club be?

And on another note, how do you know comments left on here are from people who have never been to Anfield?

  132. Birmingham won the Carling Cup and got relegated a couple of months later. Try telling them it was progress.

You sir, do have a brain.

    ReplyDelete
  133. You idea is scary, my friend! What were the 130 mil pounds spent by KD??? Monopoly paper money? FSG is ca sports management business group looking for good investments in sports teams. So do you know what is ROI? This season's ROI is negative, a huge one in fact. I think the only sum of money they will spend again is the compensation package for KD and sends him packing.

Die-hard fans love to use the term 'rebuilding'. However, this term is not meant for what happened in LFC. If you sell the entire team of LFC before the 130 mil pounds additions of KD, you can buy up the entire teams of Fulham, WBA and Sunderland. These are the 3 teams that are either leading or chasing LFC on its back in the EPL. Also, I quote an extreme example to better illustrate this term, 'net spending', you sold CR for 80 mil pounds and spend 85 mil pounds on Jamie Vardy, Conference League leading scorer of 31 goals to date, is by no means a net spending of 5 mil pounds.

Existing squad + 130 mil pounds new players = 9th or 10th in EPL + League Cup is all LFC and KD have to show for this season. Anyway, die-hard fans like yourself must be having celebrating wildly for LFC's first trophy in 6 years. WOW! I bet the thing that is on FSG's mind now is to get rid of KD or get rid of themselves from LFC. KD is clearly not the person for the job and for the love of the club, please go away from LFC and save LFC from relegation in the 2012-2013 season.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Or maybe he won't be hamstrung by the lack of money from the owners that forced Voronin and N'gog on us as squad players. Why not slate Hodgso for Poulsen, Cole (ok Purslow signing), Konchesky and treating our best centre half like dirt. Maybe given the backing Kenny has had he'd do what he did every year till his last, and get us into the knock out phases of the CL, knowing what we know now about the previous owers that's even more impressive than it first seems. The ironic thing is Martin just over 3 years ago Liverpool demolished Real Madrid 5-0 on aggregate, they invested heavily we sold heavily, they are  champions we are also rans. And before anyone slates Rafa Benitez for ignoring British talent look at our squad, the best players are foreign bar Stevie G, Pepe, Enrique, Agger, Skrtel, Lucas and Suarez. We all need to face facts that as long as we're outside the CL places it's not just the majority of the top players who won't look at us it's the majority of the top managers as well, like him or loathe him Rafa Benitez has a very effective track record (our best manager of the premiership era) and would walk over hot coals to get the job, so why would you not look at him as a contender if Kenny leaves?

    ReplyDelete
  135. I'm sure he will do it during the summer but I hope FSG can send him packing before he does further damage to LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  136. For God's sake he only really signed 3 players and 2 were so diabolical they were pratically thrown out the exit door. As for virtually nothing £4.5 million and £3 million plus 2 kids is NOT virtually nothing. We were in danger of going down under Hodgson, not under Kenny. This season has been poor, the turning point was the night we beat Chelsea but lost Lucas for the season, Adam and Downing are not and never will be good enough for Liverpool in my opinion, Henderson might develop but he's had a poor season. Do we need a new manager? That's the board's decision but I for one do not think that we are as bad as is being made out, we've hit the woodwork over 30 times, we've been unlucky for sure but do you believe that a lucly general is better than a good general

    ReplyDelete
  137. Firstly Chan will you stop insulting people, everyone has a right to an opinion and if you can't put yours forward without insulting people you look clueless. On to your points, we can actually finish 7th if we win our 2 remaining games which would equal 2009/10 and 1 place lower than last year. However cast your mind back to Blackburn away in January 2011, if you were in the crowd, like I was, that night the only word that summed the mood up was despair, we were in huge danger of going down. The fact that we finished 6th was down to Kenny transforming the club. Yes this year has been frustrating but it has never been as bad as that night in Blackburn. The League Cup is a consolation and nothing much more for me. The question is which is the real Kenny the team that played with panache and verve last season or this season's faultering form? Is it right to dismiss the undoubted bad luck, over 30 times hitting the woodwork and injuries/ suspensions or were we always going to fail through poor signings? I have an open mind, my target for the season was finish in the top 4 and a good run in one of the cups, so it has been a poor season for me but I trust these owners to weigh things up and make the right decision for LFC

  138. No Rafa was sacked because quite frankly he's a stubborn so and so and Broughton who was in charge of finding a buyer knew Rafa firing off o both cyliders was likely to put people off buying the club. It cannot be denied that Purslow made Parry seem like Rafa's best friend, so you had H&G who hated him for attacking them after the CL final in 2007 (he was right), you had the guy trying to sell the club (and as we later found out, gloriously, in charge of the club) and the guy who ran the day to day operations of the club all wanting you out. Read Brian Reade's book Rafa made mistakes but how he did what he did under those two cowboys is amazing.

  144. I just hope
now that even the most distrustful realizes that Kenny Dalglish cannot continue
be a Liverpool manager.  Henceforth it is
the time of the biggest responsibility for Principal Owner John W. Henry and
Chairman Thomas Werner since they bought LFC.
Now that the FA cup final against Chelsea is over they need to prove factually that they allocate the essential
vision and intelligence as they can take this historic football club on the
next level and transform it to a real title contender!  When they were taking over LFC they promised
to all LFC’s fans in all over the world that they would do everything it needed
to turn around the fortunes of this club and protect stakeholders’

  145. I just hope
now that even the most distrustful realizes that Kenny Dalglish cannot continue
be a Liverpool manager.
When they were taking over LFC they promised
to all LFC’s fans in all over the world that they would do everything it needed
to turn around the fortunes of this club and protect stakeholders’
investments.  The most critical moment of
their leadership has arrived and they need to make a decision which will either
signalize a new golden era for this club or either further extends its
decline.  This is translated in either
appointing a new world class manager which simply means that a new promising
period will rise up for LFC or either keep Kenny Dalglish as manager which

  148. Kenny mishandle Carroll(after being subtituted at Newcastle. Don't know what will happen if he always on the bench), Doni (his reaction when Kenny put Enrique as goalkeeper & didn't play even against Brighton & Oldham), Maxi(always on the bench despite scoring more goals than 40 million combinations of Downer & Hendork), Coates(Despite being CA Best Young Player, KD opted to play Carragher over him during Agger injury), Suarez(Evra case & after subbed off vs Wolves), Kuyt(out of favour since Hendork came). Yes Kenny is a nice person & great manager in 80's, but now he's completely out of touch with the modern game.

  153. the way we have been 'progressing', the club are lucky so many tourists want to be there. we are still one of the most supported clubs in the world. but as we know, when man city win the league, there will be more of there shirts being worn by young kids (and big kids alike). so called 'glory seekers' will jump onto a winning bandwagon. look at chelsea. i spent a lot of time down south over the years and until abramovich, you saw a few shirts, then the explosion happened and the fu*kers were everywhere! gerrard looks like a man who has dragged the club through on his own, and yes, if it wasn't for him getting us out of the sh*t so many times,we would be talking about situations that turned out to be un-successful. he now looks a man who has had enough, who has been promised so much (playing staff wise), and year on year, been let down. the  thing is, is when he retires, who will be the icon to sell to the new fans? who can the club sell to these people to keep our club so globally supported? you may say the club shouldn't need to,and maybe you are right. the truth is we are a floundering mid-table club at the moment. for new fans, that will not be an attractive proposition. the others will attract big names who people know and want to watch,so they will follow them. we will attract the likes of charlie adam!!!!!!!!!......fu*king hell, if that is the quality.......then thanks for the memories.

You say "look at Chelsea".  When I look at Chelsea, I see a team that's been a lot more successful than we have in the last decade!

  157. Agree with U. As for Reina, I think he's a great goalkeeper(his first 5 seasons). But I can see something went wrong for him since Rafa left. I don't have any problem whether he will stay (he still a good gk & tbh he could even be in Barca team) or if he leave because there are lot of good goalkeeper nowadays. And if Liverpool decided to replace him i wish it would be Mandanda, Handanovic, Marchetti, Muslera or Vorm & not the likes of Ben Foster or Ruddy.

  158. When I hear stewart downing being booed by Liverpool fans after 15 minutes of a cup final, something is seriously wrong, he got altitude sickness every time he crossed the halfway line. They all looked TERRIFIED on Saturday, only Carroll had any kind of go at Chelsea and guess what? Chelsea took 2 steps back and we got back in the game. Why are our players such pussies this season? You can be technically rubbish, tactically naive etc but you can steam in and have a go, even the heart of Liverpool has been ripped out.

I have to be honest and say for the majority of this campaign we have played some brilliant football the build up play has been amazing the defence have been solid we just could not put the call in the net. Kenny has got us playing well and now we have got Carroll playing something like the player we thought we bought. We can add to the team in the transfer window and i truly believe we will challenge for the league. Managers need time to build a team to play their way Kenny is a born winner have faith.YNWA

  160. you talk complete trash. negative tactics and showing chelsea to much respect. how would we of been over run in midfield when our midfield were sat 5 yardsinfront of our defence?
we achieved nothing playing that way.
funny how carroll comes on we go to 4-4-2 and were a different team.
wat game were you actually watching??
    your clueless along with kenny.

  162. we didn't turn up for an hour,it was embarrassing. at least in istanbul we could accept that milan were awesome in the first half, not many would have lived with them. chelsea, were gifted their lead. kuyt, carroll and maxi should have started, end of. spearing is too lightweight and henderson out of his depth. when i saw our midfield, i knew we were in trouble. never mind the fact that reina was gubbed YET AGAIN at the near post. they were not lucky, we were not unlucky. apart from the header, which didn't cross fully, where was our bad luck? we are relying on luck to get us through, that is not right or good enough. kd is a hero, but he must take criticism on the chin, as much as we love him.

KK is not a good manager full stop wake up he was a great player yes but so was Maradonna but even he sucked at being a manager and he was arguably the best player of all time so being a great footballer doesn't make you a good manager. FSG need to ask KK to step down because he has had the help of the owners and the funds to improve in 18 months, Shit signings they never had to prove themselves to get in the team KK just played them, yeah great manager.

Martin, I totally agree with every thing you have said. It will be an absolute tragedy that Gerrard, Carragher and Reina will finish their careers without the one trophy they desired most, the Premier League. It makes me wonder even more about the comments from Dalglish who stated that everybody is becoming obsessed with winning that title. Exactly what is his long term strategy if not to win that and re-open the door to future European success. Having been through  all the glory days of the 60's, 70's and 80's I've been there, seen it, done it, and I have to say that under the present manager and his team of blue-eyes, it will be years before we see the likes of those days again.

    ReplyDelete
  174.  One aspect of Dalglishes term that irks me most is that these players he bought were all better players at their former clubs.
Should a manager spending that kind of dough be able to say well i know how to improve on what a player does or at least get something resembling his best.
In saying that i dont care if Dalglish stays or leaves but must say the next manager must have the ability to attract quality players abroad.
Abroad is where Liverpool need to get a lot of their squad and England is too expensive and i wouldnt think there is too much left to spend.

oh yes technique of a horse that had jt bewildered. you need to learn a bit about football. sometimes the result is not a reflection of the game which has been the case for most of our season. we have created on average 15 chances in our games . that dont come from weak midfielders who are a waste of money that comes from taking raw players and teaching them how to play. the strikers have been poor this season i agree but i do believe we have been unlucky on a ridiculous amount of chances. Carroll is young and still has a lot to learn but of course dicks like you want instant success. lets buy messi but hey if he dont settle instantly lets get rid.
your all fickle armchair fans saying sack kenny? its his first full season in charge if it was not for kenny and had we kept hodgson we would be in the league below now and dont you forget it. all you fickle wankers think it is our right to win the league a league we have never won ...get a fucking grip. The job Kenny has is huge it is the same for him as it was for fungie when he took charge of the scum.I truly believe Kenny will get it right but it will take time it is not a short term fix we need its a long term project and at least 3 years is needed to get it right.

buying players from abroad may seem cheap but they demand higher wages therefore the overall cost is no different. these players will obviously look better in their previous clubs where they have been for years compared to their first season at a club like lfc with all its history and of course pressure from the growing amount of fickle negative fans. add that to the fact they are playing next to some of the worlds greatest players eg gerrard, suarez, reina. add that to the fact they are adjusting to a new team and a whole new city and homelife. give them and kenny time and it will come good. in fact if we had been a bit luckier in front of goal this season all of you would be saying what a brilliant team as we create more chances on goal than nearly every team in the prem so the mid and defence are doing well. the strikers are getting in the right positions it has been a freak season.

    ReplyDelete

so the so called fans think we do not owe kenny the chance to build a team??? so in their eyes we should not of signed him???? im just wondering what these so called fans would of thought if we were in the championship this season against blackpool etc under woy hodgson?????. what you so called fans are not realising is we were on the verge of relegation and kenny saved us. yes we are not where we want to be in the league he took us to two finals. from relegation fodder to 2 finals. if you honestly thought we were going to go from what he took over to challenging for champs league you seriously need to give up your fifa games.this will take time and money and some real support. its time to stop playing at being manager and support the club. YNWA

CARROLL DID NOT SET HIS OWN PRICE FOR FU*K SAKE!!! I WISH IDIOTS LIKE YOU WILL STOP GOING ON ABOUT HOW SH*T HE IS,NEXT TO WHAT HE COST. HE,WE,EVERYONE BAR COMOLLI (MAYBE HE TOO), KNEW HE WASN'T WORTH ANYTHING LIKE THAT. IT WAS A LUDICROUS AMOUNT TO PAY, BUT THAT ISN'T THE PLAYERS FAULT. GIVEN THE CORRECT SERVICE AND A GOOD RUN IN THE SIDE,HE WILL IMPROVE ALL ROUND. YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING AND SLATING THE NON-EXISTENT SUPPLY LINE, FROM OUR NON-EXISTENT WINGERS. GET OFF CARROLLS BACK, I WOULD BE MOR PI*SED OFF WITH OTHER PLAYERS WHO HAVE BEEN SH*TE. ADAM= NOT WORTH WASTING BREATH ON...HENDERSON=YOUNG POTENTIAL? 187. Richardmcgill2412:39 pm, May 07, 2012

i agree about most of this but the mids have created more headed chances on goal than any other prem team and we have created more goal chances than nearly every team so carroll, kuyt, maxi, bellamy and suarez have to take blame for their missed chances. carroll has started to settle suarez has got over his blip and i think next season will be a bright one

  190. yeah there are, just have a look at how arsenal and chelsea fans have treated their manager & players this season.  Shall i also mention Newcastle as to the fans reacted to alan pardews apppointment.  By the way I have only criticised carroll's attitude at times but anyone would, you can only help yourself.  Interms of the rest I said at the beginning of the season the players we bought in the summer barring adams will take us backwards.  Believe me being a lfc support for 27years I would loved to be proved wrong, but somethings telling me that will not happen.
