Jonjo Shelvey

  1. Great win by our boys!! 90 minutes more and we can be celebrating another cup victory. Neither being meaningless as Liverpool's history was built on the back of not only League titles but cup successes as well.
On a side note Ryan Babel was dropped from Hoffenheim's matchday squad for lack of effort and committment this weekend. Maybe he can throw some blame Rafa Benitez's way.
Anyways good win by our boys once again!!

Chelsea or Spurs will be a real test.  Has the makings of a top final.

  3. The League Cup win for Maxi was his first winners medal now he gets the chance to double his medal collection!

  6. Indeed .. not much in it but I think I'd perfer to face Chelski rather than Spurs..

Actually scratch that.. Not sure if I could cope with Nando scoring the winner against us !!! :-0

    Come on you Spurs LOL

  7. Great win, glad to see Carroll getting some goals. He's getting the right service and now showing that he can do the job. Great for him, really pleased!

Think Tottenham will beat Chelsea due to their game with Barcelona coming, will be interesting to see how Chelsea try to rotate their squad tomorrow. Think we are better suited to Chelsea, but the thought of Meireles or Torres scoring against us in the final is too much bear! If the team plays to their best, which they should in a game like that, I don't think it matters who wins the other semi, both will be tough to beat.

  8. Suarez recieved a winners medal for the Dutch title last season as he had played the required number of games for Ajax and Downing won the league cup with Boro, Glen Johnson won the League and League cup with Chelsea and the FA Cup with Pompey...Get your facts right lad

  11. Agreed ..

I don't think Chelski would pose the same problems as Spurs and I think they'll have enough to get past them 2mo, depending on the team selection with Barca in mind.

But once the whistle goes in an FA semi agaist London rivals anything could happen.. ?? Spurs do tend to have an inferiority complex similar to Everton in the big games.

Wouldnt break my heart as such to watch meireles scoring against us.. but you know who.. ouchh !!!!

Good to see AC on the score sheet again.. In fairness to him he's missed two sitters in the last two games but kept plugging away and popped up with two late winners..

Got to be good for the ol confidence being the match winner two games on the trot.. Hopefully its just the start of many more to come

  12. I have not been impressed with Dalglish or his " blue-eyed" boy signings this season but, credit were credit is due, they all put in a shift today. Had to admit I was surprised that Enrique didn't make the starting eleven and was even more convinced it was a bad move after we gifted them the first goal, but they all kept their heads up and it was a greatly improved performance in the second half.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Happy that Maxi came on and showed that he is a top player... Why that Dalglish doesnt start him, only the Lorax will know... His team selection was SH1TE again and it made the game difficult for us! If he plays the same starting line up in the final, we're gone!

Carra should retire... Agger & Skrtel are the best we have! Spearing is not top 4 club material... Hence we're not in the top 4. Played too many mediocre players! Henderson ahead of Maxi... What a joke! What an absolute embarrassment he is! Downing ahead of Bellamy... Now you know Dalglish is clueless! With Kelly, Johsnon
And Flanagan all fit, there should be NONreasin why Carragher is playing!!!!! Dalglish must stop making emotional decisions!

We could have easily lost this and all these compliments would have been very different! Let's NOT lose sight of the fact that Dalglish selected the WRONG starting 11 and that put us on the back foot from kick off!!!

  16. Lets just wait till the end of the season, everyone knew including the players & kenny that if we'd lost today today their lives would be become a living hell. So dont get too cocky coz if we dont win the fa cup u know full well what action the owners will take. Enjoy the day and shut up. Lets put it this way its a good job Distan was playing today as it helped us bigtime and carragher!!!

  19. the owners have been quiet. saying that i don't do twitter, what have they said???

    ReplyDelete
  20. You do relise we won don't you? How can Dalglish of got the team selection wrong if we actually won.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree about the Spurs inferiority complex, but not sure it extends to us anymore. It used to. We seem to have a better record against Chelsea now, and the pace of the Tottenham side really seems to trouble us.

I never mind strikers missing sitters if the chances are created and the the striker doesn't go into hiding. Fair play to him for improving his game and continually improving while everyone else was going backwards and everyone else was trying to destroy him. Of all the British signings, i think he is the one who could step up and show what he can do. He might not be worth 35 million, but thats not his fault. We do better with him in the team than not, so he is fine as far as i am concerned. If he keeps improving, then the season might get salvaged after all. He looks like one of the more likely to save our season in any case.

  22. It's really sad that people bother with that kind of nonsense.

  31. We completed a hattrick with the FA semi-final win over Everton FC: first at Goodison Park, next at Anfield, and then at Wembly. A HATTRICK IN ONE YEAR!

As for Caroll.. I know it's a cliche but he didn't set the price.. And anybody suggesting we off load him, including JK, needs their heads read.

He may not be worth 35 mil but anybody with half a (business) brain will tell you, ya don't sell your most expensive asset for nothing without giving said asset time to try to recoup some market value.

Some idiots were suggesting we GIVE him away.. Same idiots that think they know whats best for the club.....

Long live kenny....u lot put bollywood to shame. Kenny has come out and said he could be sacked next, OH MY GOD, WHAT WILL U DO IF HES SHOWN THE DOOR. WEEP ON UR PILLOW AND TELL MOMMY. BUNCH OF FAGGOTS.

  51. Calm yourself pal, nobody has forgotten our league position. The first comment criticised the team selection. My argument was that Dalglish picked a team to go out and win a semi final, which we did so how can he still be criticised for it? Our league form this year has been a disgrace but if we win two of the three trophies we had to play for, that surely will buy Dalglish a crack at next season.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I know mate, but we need to put things into perspective, yes we are in the final but Distin did us a massive favour us yesterday and got kenny off the hook with his team selection. I mean how many times is kenny going to make the same mistakes like for example keep persisting with carra and playing agger LB. You cannot pic a player on based on emotion. It has a negative effect on both agger and skirtel. Lets hope we dont make things hard for ourselves otherwise u clearly know what might happen if we do not win the fa cup. I just find unbelieveable when people think by winning one game that the criticism is unjustified. Nice of u to admit about our poor league season and just hope we do win the fa cup otherwise there'll be no place to hiding from the truth about our overall performance this season.

  53. on a side note Dirk Kuyt was dropped from Liverpool's team for lack of effort and commitment this weekend. Maybe he can throw some blame Ryan Babel's way.

Anyways, good win by our boys!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Tottenham are chokers, full stop. They're always look for excuses to lose, instead of ways to win

    ReplyDelete
  55. It is possible to win in spite of making the wrong decisions. Just as it is possible to lose in spite of doing everything right too...

Are you saying that there is no way that the team could've won with won with Enrique/Aurelio at left back and Agger in the middle with Skrtel? Or even that it would've been less likely that we'd get the win??Congrats to the boys for getting the result that we all wanted anyways!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Nothing's changed Chestnut - we all want Liverpool to win, and most importantly want to win the League (I think!).

Many of us have been saying that we hope Dalglish wins the FA cup and then steps down at the end of the season, so why do you think that the sentiment is going to change because we're now actually through to the final??

    ReplyDelete
  57. Enrique has overplayed far to often over the past few months. We didn't need that sort of pressure with our no3 in the net. Agger at LB = good shout! Result justified!!!!????

    ReplyDelete
  58. Credit must be given for the cup runs especially if we win the final,,lose the final the seasons a caltastrophic failure. The inconsistency of our season is shocking, beat all the top teams in the cups lose to everyone in the league.Losing 4-0 3-0 in the league is a regular occurance, leading 2-0 and being pegged back is a regular occurance, sadly there is something lacking.Suarez is fantastic he could become a world superstar, agger reina skertle, johnson is now playing really well when we get Lucas back as well. Thanks Rafa for leaving us with the basis of a great team only one of 16 players signed since you left has made it,at least we still have your signings to rely on,thanks again Rafa .

  61. Agger is a better centreback than Carragher. Enrique is a better left back than Agger. Aurelio is a better left back than Agger. Skrtel+Agger has proven to be a more solid partnership than Carragher+Skrtel.

So overall - weakened selection but good result neverthelesst!!!(btw, Enrique being overplayed - even while Aurelio has been available - surely goes on the manager's back does it not??)

    ReplyDelete
  62. The way i see it, is that no matter who was in charge of this squad, they would have leave certain players out which no doubt would annoy a certain sections of the fans....

In this respect there really is no pleasing all the people all the time.....

This is what i have personally found so frustrating this season and im sure im not alone....it has been vexing and confusing trying to work out what is our best side simply because our player form has been so inconsistent.....

One minute Maxi is undroppable...and should be a regular starter, but so often with him this season he has been woeful...giving the ball away.....not linking up....and generally not helping the side...same can be said about Kuyt.....same can be said about Enrique.....same can be said of Reina.....same can also be said about even our very own superstar Suarez.......and Lucas.......

So how the hell is the manager supposed to know who to play when he's been serially let down all season by certain players but then they come back into the side and make a couple of good "appearances"...which in turn gets the fans complaining that we should have been playing them all season...

Yet the shit brits as they have been so nicely labelled have been scapegoated and of course its Kenny who bought them..........so you could say that Kenny is being scapegoated too.....

I came onto this website recently with a new angle into why we have underperformed this season other than the usual one about Kenny & Co.....

For a fact, we as a fanbase have been conveniently avoiding the possibility that there is something of a war of attrition amongst the players....which i personally believe to be a player CLIQUE....two different camps.....a divided squad of players, largely consisting of Reina Suarez Maxi Lucas Kuyt etc versus the likes of Gerrarrd Carra Downing Carroll Henderson Adam Kelly Spearing etc mainly the "shit brits"...........

This attempt to sabotage our season by the foreign players at the Club has been quite successful.....in terms of our league form AND in terms of how the fans perceive the "problem" being the shit brits.....

As i have already stated in earlier posts, there is a pattern to this sabaotage, we start the game with plenty of gusto....BUT we don't link up in the final third, whenever Enrique goes forward he doesn't pass or coss when he should, he takes wild shots.....same goes for Suarez etc....then in the second half......usually when we are a goal down......because we keep conceding posession..... and allow the opposition into the game we decide to start "trying" to score with a little more earnest....Enrique will get forward more...Suarez will endeavour to go close.....get into the box....even try and score if he can.....and if he does we revert back to type again.....

The cardiff final was exactly the same......not only that but we have been playing that way whenever we lost or drawn in the prem this season.....

The difference is that somehow we have managed to secure 1 trophy and make it to the final of another Cup....

My opinion is that it was not a mistake by Kenny NOT to play Enrique, it was not a mistake for Maxi to be on the bench either, in fact Reina's absence IMO was a blessing in disguise......

These players don't want Kenny to succeed IMO, and they have been actively trying to fcuk up our season and force FSG to get rid of Kenny....why? Because Kenny wants to bring other players in....simpe as that.

"We" tried to throw the game against Cardiff IMO...and im sure Kenny will be aware of who to play in the final....and who not to play....thats IF he wants to keep his job......

    ReplyDelete
  63. I continue to like Ryan Babel, shame that he has not realised his early promise but (aside from a couple of minor gaffes) I admire the way he supports his old teammates and club. Well done Ryan, hope you can get back into the TSG H team soon, lots of success to you!

    ReplyDelete
  64. In addition to Babel, great to see old boys Luis Garcia, Neil Mellor and Yossi Benayoun supporting their old team. Also nice to see our young players - Suso, Shelvey - and our injured Brazilian Lucas Leiva supporting the team.

  66. Hi Jamie, on a day like today, I find it odd how few supporters seem to understand the principle of JFT96 when they spout their bigotry and their nonsense all over these pages, without realising that the bigotry that people like Adrian, comebackrafa and others come out is exactly the same type of thing that the campaign is fighting against. They stereotype and generalise about people in exactly the same way that the press, shamefully, did all those years ago. And don't see the irony. Worse, still, they display exactly the same kind of mob mentality and ignorance that people will use to generalise all the club's supporters.

  68. Ashley Young dives all the time, but how many Manchester United fans say this§ we, we criticize our players all the time, especially on this site, that's why they win the championship and we do not.

    ReplyDelete
  69. They used to choke against all the top teams, their record against Man Utd is totally shocking. Even when they are 3-0 up at half time.

Agree, the loss we'd take on Carroll would not be worth it and if he ends up being worth over 20 million we will still have a decent striker who offers something different.

I think he has shown signs of improvement for some time now his all round game has definitely improved. I remember him playing a couple of cross field passes against Everton, he definitely was not up to that when he came here. Of all our recent signings, I think he has been the most maligned and still hope he will come good for us.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Great win for kenny's reds! 2 Cups will be fantastic! Any other fan who hates on this achievement is missing the point. LFC EXISTS TO WIN TROPHIES!!! Thats the thing about dalglish he knows how to win trophies, why do you think ferguson hates him so much? he's a winner thats why! And by the way, the reason Carra started was because Kenny wanted as many aerial ball winners as possible on the pitch. Agger, Carra, Skittles and Carroll because he thought Everton would bombard and bully our vulnerable 3rd choice keeper with Cahill, fellaini, jelavic, Distin and co! Hence the absence of the aerially poor enrique. Its called tactics lady's! Everybody knows Carra is on the way out but you can see why Kenny started him (well you can if you understand football). JFt96.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Can really see them missing out on 4th place now, and then they will struggle to keep a couple of their best players, i think. Modric, in particular.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Well, you're right he wasn't that bad. Perhaps too average. Out of the all new signings, he is by far too average.

    ReplyDelete
  73. You really think that is the difference? Even if they got pegged back, we'd still have 6 other teams who we needed to overtake.

To see him get another penalty like that, in two successive home games, is a real shocker. Notice that no one is making much of a fuss about Scholes' knee high tackle as well.

And our dear leader came out today saying his big money signings are justified ... Cringe

    ReplyDelete
  76. Was Carragher picked purely on 'emotion', or "Big Game Experience"? I agree that the back-4 should pick itself when all are fit - [Enrique, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson] - but maybe we needed more of a physical presence as Everton are a big team. Agger also had a bit of licence to get forward, which he had done at Blackburn.
Disagree that Distin got Kenny off the hook, as Everton never looked like scoring other than the howler (my opinion).
Spearing was overrun, but again has more Derby experience than Shelvey. And, after a tentative start, Henderson had another really good game - always available, never shirking, always kept his head up, and Carroll kept never stopped battling and deserved his goal.

All in all, a great day out, and a win to cherish. Why spoil it?

    ReplyDelete

  78. Oh well, Chelsea in the final.....

Hopefully, if ALL our players are trying to win that game.....we might just have a chance of picking up another Trophy.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Spot on Neil. I've said a similar thing in an another post, but you seem to have stolen my thunder a bit.
Although Agger on the left was an initial shock, it meant he had licence to get forward if needed, PLUS we had a back-4 all with 'Big Game Experience', and aerial power. Yes, Carra's days are numbered, and the goal was shocking, but players look up to him.

Some of the people on this site will never be happy - FACT.

We just beat our biggest rivals, in an FA Semi, at Wembley. It just doesn't get much better than that.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'll cherish if we beat chelsea and win fa cup as that will make up for the league disappointment. 2 Cups in one season now that would be some acheivement. Sorry but im just not that easily fooled and will always look at the bigger picture and base performance on the bread & butter which is the PREMIER LEAGUE!! SORRY BUT I DONT LIKE BASKING IN PAST GLORY FOR TOO LONG OR BEYOND THE CHAMPS LEAGUE FINAL 2005....IT MAKES ONE LOOK SAD AND DESPERATE!! ANYWAY LETS LOOK FORWARD TO THE FA CUP FINAL!!

  84. I expected Spurs to flop against Chelsea, because that is just what they do, but even I didn't expect a 5-1 scoreline, or a performance as poor as theirs was before the second goal!

Still, at least they got the excuse that they wanted so desperately!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Since when has Enrique been poor in the air (or Carragher been particularly strong in the air for that matter)? Furthermore, who was going to be bullying our left back all game - were Jelavic, Fellaini, Distin etc all playing right wing all of a sudden??

    What a load of nonsense!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Agger doesn't get forward from centre-back, if needed?  And what, Aurelio or Enrique are incapable of getting forward from left back?? :-/

And if it was just about big game experience, why was Kuyt on the bench instead of Henderson or Carroll?

Just be happy that we got away with the decision, instead of making up silly reasons to try to justify it.
