Milan or LFC? £18m midfield star reveals where he wants to play next season...

With AC Milan seemingly stalling on a permanent loan deal for Alberto Aquilani, the injury-prone midfielder is in footballing limbo at the moment. Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish admitted yesterday that Aquilani would be on his way back to Anfield this summer, but is that what he wants, and would it be a good idea?

On Wednesday, Aquilani's Agent, Franco Zavaglia, conceded that his client's future in Italy is far from certain:

"I do not know if Milan wants to take up the option to make the deal permanent, we'll have to wait and see. He has recovered from injury and is back at the disposal of the coach"

Aquilani has always made it clear that he prefers to play in Italy, and in an interview earlier this week, he reiterated that stance:

"I like Liverpool, but Milan are at the top. AC Milan were great, and I couldn't be better treated".

Milan are at the top? Clearly, Aquilani wants to stay in Italy, and let's hope he gets his wish because I sincerely doubt he'll be happy about having to uproot his family once again and return to a club where he only has unhappy memories.

An unhappy player is pretty useless anyway, but would you welcome Aquilani back if that's the way things went?

  1. he is a very talented midfielder.. just didnt get enough time to adapt. should be given another chance. he is better than adam without doubt

  2. he is a professional footballer , since when did they get all the power . LFC pay him 6 figures a week and it doesnt matter where he plays , he should preform at the highest level. We are not losing anything if he has to play here next year , he is far more talented then Adam and i believe Adam would be a great bench player . If he can stay healthy Aqua could be a star in the premier league and we wouldnt have to spend 20 mil

  3.  And so the yearly dance of the Italian club manoeuvring to get Aquilani for nothing. :-(

Unless Liverpool get him back an give him a go in the team, then at some point Liverpool will let him go for something like £5m. :-(

  4. I cant understand why so many people want him back. Hes a good player but since he's been her he's done nothing but bitch about wanting to be back in Italy. Let him go I say!

  5.  Liverpool shouldn't loan him out again to any club, either keep him, or sell him, I couldn't care either way.

  6. Totally agree. Highly overrated -  if he was as good as most of the people on this site claim he'd have been signed up by now. If some of these clubs really wanted him they wouldn't want to risk losing him in a bidding war - they've simply concluded he's not good enough.

  7. I think he is a talented player that just needs stability and a manager to constantly tell him how good he is and we should give him the oppurtunity to prove himself he only says that he wants to stay in italy because hes never had a full season at the club he came in injured played half a season and then loaned out after that either way this loaning nonsence has to stop sell him or keep him dont pay his wages so that he can play for someone else

  8. Even though he's a very capable midfielder I wouldn't take him back. I'd rather have an improving Henderson rather than a player who doesn't want to play here. This is dependent on whether Henderson is played in the correct position, though. It's pointless playing Henderson on the right of midfield
    (IMO)!

  9.  liverpool should take a leaf out of milans book...be clever with deals ...don't lumber yourself with big contracts and fees.....aqua is crap if millan play hard bell they will get him for nothing and we will more than likely sub his wages....Liverpool are a laughing stock and i support them

  11. Aquilani was never given a chance to show his talent at Anfield, he and Joe Cole should be given another chance, they are much better then the new players bought by KD last summer.

  12. Seriously I couldn't care less about players that don't want to stay at Liverpool, as long as they can contribute who cares what they think. The club is bigger than the player, they pay him to play so they should expect him to play and not succumb to his wishes. People should only expect loyalty to Liverpool born players like Gerrard Carragher and Spearing.
I can understand that he wants to be in Italy because he was born and raised there, never settled in at England, couldn't play under RB's system because RB left, shipped out by a clueless RH, and then got fed up and wanted to go back. He needs security, I think he will duke it out this year and prove to everyone he is capable. Alonso had a stinker season and proved to everyone what he was capable the season we finished 2nd. Its not a fact that he is not good enough. I don't think AC milan can afford Aquilani by the looks of it. Think about it. A team that has top players like Pato, Ibrahimovic, Robinho, Cassano, ext..... These players must be on insane wages.

  13. He sounds more like a cry baby than a professional football player. No matter how good the player is, if he is constantly injured, he can't really contribute to the team and regularly disrupts team formation. Liverpool needs a good player who can play and contribute week in week out.

Obviously, his injury history is holding Milan back or they would have snapped him up in a jiffy. Already, Liverpool is facing injury problems especially with Lucas. So, we don't need to add another with a high risk injury profile.

  14. I think he'd be good but as you say JK, if his head isn't in the right place then there is no telling how much he'll be willing to apply himself.

  15. may be we could sign Mascherano, Alonso, Torres and Ramirez......  They all seem like players who are doing really well for big clubs

  16. Tell him to eff off , THIS IS ANFIELD remember if players have to think twice we don't want them , never mind welcoming him back , get a grip Kenny

  17. your all stupid, he didnt want to be here, after rafa left he wanted to leave, he said i like liverpool but AC milan is top, how many times does he have to say he wants to stay in italy before all you fans realise this

  18. He doesn't want to play here because his family is settled in Italy and that is where they want to stay. The fact that he wasn't played/Given a chance last time around probably repels him as well.

  19. Never gonna happen, they both have inflated wages and are either injury prone/getting too old. I expect both to go this summer with a lowered price tag.

  20. We should refuse to loan him again and only sell if the offer is over £10m (which won't happen). He will obviously be a negative influence in training due to his whining about having to be in England (why did he agree to move here in the first place? Oh yeah, greed) so he should be moved to the reserves for the remainder of his contract. I know it's an expensive move for us BUT WHAT A MESSAGE TO SEND OUT THAT THE CLUB IS THE CONTROLING PARTY NOT PLAYER POWER - HE DOESN'T PAY THE CLUB TO PLAY! WE PAY HIS WAGES!! Mancini and Tevez have damaged club over player power and made a mockery of employer / employee standards. We have the chance to say this is how it's handled in the real world and LFC only accept committed players who don't take the club for a mug.

  21. A nice thought, but if Man City can't take a stand with a player with all their money, Liverpool have no chance.

I think if Aquilani does come back he would knuckle down if he was confident that his hard work would get him in the team. That's something that doesn't seem to be happening at the moment with the many appearances of Henderson, Adam and Downing ahead of other players who showed more form when they were in the team.

  22.  but Aquilani cant stay fit which is exactly why Milan are refusing the option to sign him!!

    End of discussion!!
