LFC fans tell FSG: *Sack* Dalglish now and bring back Benitez. Hypocrisy?

Former Reds manager Rafa Benitez still retains massive support amongst Liverpool fans, and with the club enduring its worst league season in years, many fans are actively calling for the much-loved Spaniard to be given a second chance at Anfield, and would happily accept Kenny Dalglish being *sacked* before the end of the season to see it happen.

Dalglish sacked before the end of the season? In my view, that's heresy, and as I've argued repeatedly this year, I never want to see one of the Liverpool's greatest servants suffer the ignominy of being sacked.

I am, admittedly, a critic of Dalglish, and I admit that I would like to see him step down/move upstairs at the end of the season; but sacking? Never, but not everyone takes that view though.

I recently hypothesized that many fans would happily see Dalglish sacked if it meant an immediate Benitez return, and to prove this point, I posed the following question in a survey conducted on this on this site last week:

If there was an option to sack Dalglish with immediate effect and replace him with Benitez, would you support that change?

The result was exactly as I predicted:

* Almost 4000 fans voted.

* 70% voted in favour of Dalglish being sacked before the end of the season to make way for Benitez.

As you can see, the majority of voting fans would be only too happy to see Dalglish's legacy irreperably tarnished to accommodate a Benitez return. These very same fans then had the gall to attack me for suggesting the Luis Suarez should be sacked for public stating his intention to CHEAT for Liverpool (!)

The hypocrisy really is hilarious (and tragic at the same time)

What the results of the survey categorically show (once again), is that many Liverpool fans prioritise the individual over the club.

* Sacking Dalglish - one of the club's greatest players - before the end of a season would be damaging for the reputation of LFC; it would be like sticking knife into the heart of everything LFC stands for, yet fans want that to happen (!)

* Luis Suarez, however, publicly admitted that he will happily cheat for Liverpool, which also damages the reputation of the club, but fans are falling over themselves to defend him, and justify his right to cheat!

The mind boggles.

If you want to see the reason modern football is in the moral and ethical gutter, just read through the comments on the following post.

Forget Dalglish - FSG should sack Suarez for this shocking statement.

Truly disturbing.

Rafa Benitez is a legend and a world class manager. His record proves it. He is also a fine gentleman and a wonderful human being who adores this club and fought for everything you define as the Liverpool way. Watching this Chelsea v Barcelona Semi final game is a reminder of the stage we regularly graced when this man was at the helm. When the time is right, he will return to finish what he started. You'll Never Walk Alone Rafa

  2. Hi sorry, 75 plus postage. I paid 130 for it 3 months ago and rode it twice. Nothing to do with the frame I was given a different frame. There are no dents or bends in the frame, just wear and tear that comes naturally with a roadie. I think it's a 2009 model but I truly cant swear to that. There are quite a few stone chips and scuffs on it but all in all it's extremely sturdy. The part the bottle cage bolt screws in to is slightly lose but that is remedied when the cage is screwed in.

  3. Bring Rafa Back after this season, then watch Liverpool sit proudly back on top of world football. With the backing of FSG all the doubters will finally see what a true world class manager Benitez is!!!

  4. Alonso, mascherano, and Torres are in the CL semis... Do you see Adam, Henderson, downing, Carrol play in a CL semi? Ever?
They cost more than all the above put together .
That's why fans want rafa back. Very simple ! No

  5. rafa did not sign the team that won champions league he did not win much he fell out with lots of players  what did he do when we had bellamy nothing did not play him  give dalgish chance  rafa left us with crap players he signed

  6. benitez was/is a world class manager but i would still give kd at least 10 games of next season. i still think he will do the job. all these so called reds calling for kd to be sacked have never been to anfield.
as for suarez?? jaimie, suarez has just said what every other footballer past or present is scared of saying. gerrard has dived many times to win us games. ronaldo, drogba, young etc. its a different game these days. all true liverpool fans would love the old traditions of us playing great football & winning but nowadays you have to partly cheat. do you think manure fans are thinking they should sack young, nani rooney or whoever else dives when they are winning the league? if you dont like the fact we have a player who will do anything in his power to get us back to where we should be then go support someone else

  7. By just winning the Carling Cup and the FA cup (or just by participating
to the final against Chelsea) it doesn’t justify that Kenny Dalglish is the
manager who can turn around the fortunes of this historic club.  If we analyze statements of LFC’s key players
such as, "Maybe that's because we aren't good enough.  It is a bit of everything; we are not playing
well, we are not working the right way,” or, “an FA Cup victory will not make up for the club's poor performance in the
league this season,” it is obvious that even the players indirectly admit
that.  As John W. Henry and Thomas Werner
can hit it forward they should appoint a real winner manager with a deep
knowledge and understanding of modernized football for the new season and
surround him with a Director of Football who is experienced and has a proven
success career record in the field of Football!

  8. I dont want Dalglish sacked because hes a legend. I do want the best for LFC if that means bring Rafa back then fine. His heart was and still is at LFC. He did have his faults like all managers. Theres know doubt he has more tactical knowledge of the game than Dalglish. If Rafa had proper backing we would have continued to progress even more than we did.
But also Dalglish`s heart is at LFC so give the man a chance, patience is whats required.

  9. You really are something. You have completely taken Luis suarez's comments out of context. Luis was trying to show his loyalty and how he puts the club before himself not to cheat the other team out of it. I hate how suarez gets so much stick from other fans and even some of our fans for diving. Look at Mark davies, ashley young, even carrol. These players have dived constantly throughout the season maybe not carrol as much but the other two have won and cheated the refs and no one even suggests they have cheated, even our own fans allow dont slate them as   badly as mancs do to luis. as for sacking dalglish and bringing in rafa. im not a fan of rafa and if we sacked kenny that would cause a lot of turmoil within the dressing room. Suarez himself said he would be considering his future if kenny was sacked. I think kenny should be given one more season for top 4 and if he fails again he has to go even if that means suarez leaving. But really i think u are the only lfc fan(i doubt u even are a lfc fan)  who doesnt like suarez.

A member of the "Gerard Houllier was a genius and would have won the Champions League in 2005" brigade, sponsored by Jamie Carragher.

Why do people like you want to give credit for one manager's success to another? Weird. Do you do that with Joe Fagan? No. So why do it with Rafa?

  12. I would say that HYPOCRIT is the one who posts provocative polls with 2 months to go till the end of the season on an open forum which is visited clearly not only by Liverpool fans, but all sort of scum too, and then comes out and accuses the fans of hypocrisy.

    ReplyDelete
  13. zoffo1, four players signed by Rafa are in the semi-finals of the CL, and a fifth was arguably the best and only decent signing Roy made, Merieles!! The others being Alonso, Arbeloa,Mascherano and Torres!! And where did last year's signings get us!!?? Rafa needed these owners,FSG, when we had that team that included the above mentioned players cause all he needed was a couple of decent signings and cash to buy them. Like Alves etc etc.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Right. Keep telling yourself all that. Taking his comments out of context? Pure delusion.

    * Suarez unambiguously stated the following:

"I want to win this semi-final. If I am obliged to stop a ball in the last minute and we win, then I will repeat the [Ghana] action. Success for Liverpool is more important to me than anything else"

It's pretty disgraceful that you still try and make excuses for this unambiguous and very *public* statement of intent to cheat in an LFC shirt.

  15. Nonsense. There's nothing hypocritical about gauging the views of fans. I don't twist anyone's arm to vote a certain way in the poll. This was a fair poll, and you can't handle the result, which is why you're on the offensive. Fans are massive hypocrites. Deal with it.

  23. I'm a big fan of the site Jaimie and am very grateful for the insights you give but I have to agree with a number of other posters.....please write a positive article from time to time.
You're personal crusade against Suarez is hilarious, the only thing he is guilty of is honesty. 99% of professional footballers would deliberately handle the ball in that situation, Suarez' mistake is telling the press.
Very similar to the Evra incident, if he'd have gone to court and denied all knowledge it would have been word against word....

    The Booter

P.S. I also think Carroll, Henderson and Downing have been outstading this season.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Utter nonsense. The poll question was specific and clear: if people didn't want Dalglish sacked, they could've voted no. There was no twisting of opinion at all. You don't seem to get the point: the purpose of the poll was to see how many people would agree to Dalglish being sacked BEFORE the end of the season. With that in mind, what would be the point of having an option for Dalglish to leave at the end of the season? That's not the information I was seeking.

You clearly just can't handle the truth, and for you, the truth obviously hurts. And it should; I want it to, because some fans are hypocrites, and they need to have their faces rubbed in it, especially fans who are willing to justify and condone blatant cheating behaviour but are willing to see a club legend sacked.

    ReplyDelete
  25. yes we want him back. We need him back because we want champions league football back, where we belong. Benitez need 2nd chance and with the financial backing of FSG I am sure that Benitez makes very good things. Who knows if he brings us that premiere league title we all hope for. How can we forget those magic champions league nights under the spaniard, those 4 goals against real madrid and 4 days later another 4 against the mancs away. We want that football level back so lets give him another chance because he deserves it. But leave KD till the end of the season and leave him as a representative in our club.

  26. *Asterisks* again. Why? :-/

  27. Dalglish was and always will be a legend as player at the club, but as a manager he is not up to it and the owners should of made the change last summer with Dalglish steadying the ship end of last season, dalglish's british player revolution has not worked this has a knock on effect on our youth coming through as the games at this time of the season we should be in a position to blood in some of youth players giving them some valuable prem experience, even if we had converted some of our chances through the season and had games won by the 60-70 minute mark we could of blooded some of our younger players. But Dalglish's tactics this season just havn't been up to scratch, start of the season we played good football pleasing to the eye but frustrating at the same time cause we were not getting the 3 points, but last few months we have played poorly as well as not getting any points. Kenny needs to play his best players like : maxi, kuyt, bellamy, even likes of sterling and codey, if the senior over priced over rated players cannot do the job then give the players who proved their worth in the past under Rafa and players with potential a chance to do the job of scoring and winning games.
Kenny needs to be moved upstairs and Rafa or another young talented european manager brought in at the end of the season. We as Liverpool football club are not a cup team we are known as a top 4 team and that is where we belong ( no I am not an arogant LFC fan who thinks LFC have the right to be in top 4) we are Liverpool FC.
at the beginning of the season i said i would accept winning the two domestic cups and a top 4 finish, lfc currently sit 13 points off the 4th spot, 36 points off the top and only 18 points above bolton who are in relegation zone.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Right, so just because other footballers cheat, it's okay for everyone else to do it? What kind of morally bankrupt justification is that? I can just imagine you in Court: 'But your honour, lots of other people murder their wives; why should I be sent to jail for admitting it to the Police! My only mistake was being honest about it...."

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love Benitez and I would love to c him back. However I wouldn't like to c the legend being sacked. If KD was to move upstairs like u say Jamie than I would b very happy to c Benitez back. I honestly believe that with backing of FSG he will take Liverpool back where it belongs.

  30. If you persist with posting these pointless comments, you'll be banned.

  31. No way he should be sacked...that would be terrible on a number of fronts.  I would rather see Benitez than KD in that post sometime soon but am not willing to go that low to get there.  If he gets another year I can live with that and perhaps he earns a further 2 or 22, who knows.  It seems almost inevitable that Benitez will be in the seat sometime in the not so distant future and nothing would make me happier than for KD to prove us wrong and make that impossible!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't remember the option to vote to move KK upstairs at the end of the season, in your poll.  I think you were slightly angling for the result you got based on the way in which you phrased the questions.

  35. The club needs stability right now, it makes absolutely no sense to remove Kenny from post before season's end. What benefit can there be for LFC? Removing AVB from Chelsea mid-season was the right thing to do because he had lost the dressing room, allegedly. As long as the players want to play for Kenny, he should stay.

End of season is a different matter, however this is a tough decision for FSG. Winning a cup represents a measure of success for them even if it wasn't the main aim of the season. They will also know that LFC means everything to Kenny and he will do everything in his power to make us competitive once more. So sacking him will not be taken lightly. When the time is right, however, they may just decide to revisit the shortlist they had prior to Kenny's appointment - which probably didn't contain Benitez.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Can you just explain why you use them? It makes no sense?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jamie, your question had a sting its tail because you wanted to make a point- i get why you did it, but it does blur the lines between 2 separate points. the first is that , yes we can be a fickle bunch, the second that Rafa is a way better manager than KD could ever be. we want to be a strong, feared side who regularly features in the CL, and surely you can see that adam, henderson and downing are NEVER going to be mixing it up at that level. if ANY other manager had (1) wasted so much cash on absolute rubbish (2) acted like a complete tool with the press (3) stupidly backed up a player in the wrong (4) performed so badly in the league and been the cause of our worst run in 60 years (5) played with so little tactical nous- they would be sacked, and not at the end of the season.
You have pointed out many times how 'unfairly' woy was treated, but by the same token, KD is allowed too much leeway due to his history.
He will not stand down, he's stubborn and he knows this is his last shot, and he will take us down if he keeps going like this.
how anyone can consistently play such an awful player as adam, week in week out is beyond me. he  is one of the worst regulars ive seen at LFC for a long time.
the fans are hungry for us to be a force. who made us a force in the last 20 years? who brought real world class players to the club? who got us to 2 CL finals in 3 years?
next year we'll be in on channel 5 on thursdays and have even less chance of breaking into the top 4, unless we do a spurs and let the kids play the europa league(which i doubt).
like him or not, Rafa did the business, he made our lives exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Rafa benitez with these owners would long term be great . I agree that kenny should not be  sacked he should step down. That will never happen We have two club legend at the club together kenny and gerrard its not going so well we are nowhere near english premier league top 4 .            So whats the main league for us champions league seriuosly we are nowhere near it .He come out in comolli leaving saying that all the signings was him (kenny) why would you own up to flops. Questions how can you put rafa as manager and give kenny a roll that will not Disrespect him. because no one is questioning him as a legand of lfc but as manager very very poor. In a 433 system how can carroll and suarez co exist they cant one has to go. He also dropped enrique left back put agger there because carragher has to play everton for most of the game that was worst move ever if we had lost everyone would have asked for his sacking.

  45. World class manager, really? He did well to start with but in his final season massively lost the plot. He spent a fortune on an injured player, spent another fortune on a average full back and then moaned that he had no money. The team went from nearly winning the title to seventh in one year. Once sacked he got a job at Inter, a team who months before had lifted the Champions league trophy, a team that had dominated the Italian league for years under Mancini and then Mourinho. He then proceeded in ruining them. The form was so bad that he was sacked after less than six months. He hasn't had a job since. If he is a world class manager why aren't the top teams falling over themselves to offer him a job? Dalglish may not be the man to carry us forward but getting Benitez back would be a mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  46. People may want dalglish out due to not being capable of the job. Suarez admitted he would commit a foul if it helped the team. You twist things worse than the tabloids. What is your goal in this? I'd also be interested to know your age as you come across quite immature (without trying to be offensive to you).

  49. I'd give KK till Dec/Jan of next season and if we are still doing terrible in the league at that time, regardless of how we're doing in Europa, FA Cup and League Cup at that stage, I would like for him to go and give the prospective new manager the rest of that season as a sort of bedding in period.

I don't see the point in removing KK before this season is over as there isn't many games left and let him have the honour of finishing off his FA Cup adventure at least.

Rafa is a very good manager and has his flaws too. I am not keen on his return at this particular period of the club. Suarez and Enrique aside, I don't think his style would mesh all that well with the new-ish signings of Downing, Hendo, Adam and Carroll, just me speculating of course. That would be a waste of them and Rafa, in terms of getting the best out of those respective people. The existing attacking players of Kuyt, Stevie G, Maxi and Bellars who could do a job for Rafa but are on the wrong side of 30. It would take Rafa a while for him to refresh, recycle and mould the squad into his vision. We don't yet know whether the owners will be able to fund another big spree so soon either.

I partially agree but in saying he "will do everything in his power to make us competitive once more" may be a bit off...he doesn't seem to "admit" he is wrong as evidenced by his team choices.  That is the problem here as I see it, he may think he is doing the right thing by sticking with his British players while Maxi rots on the bench...most everyone would disagree with him.  But I hear you

One bad season does not make you a poor manager. Sir Alex had bad seasons between 2003/04 to 2005/06. Is he a rubbish manager? Mourinho had a bad season last year? Is he a rubbish manager? Ancelloti had a bad season last year? Is he a rubbish manager? Guardiola might have a fruitless season, does that mean he has lost the plot? Ofcourse not. It's insulting the way you big up Mourinho, the enermy of Liverpool FC just out of personal spite of a decent man and world class manager in Rafa

  59. Ha. So much wrong with this. I think, of all the players he worked with, only Babel Riera and Benayoun had anything negative to say about him. Given Babel's general attitude on and off the pitch and Riera hitting a youth team player, only Yossi may have reasonable gripe. In the meantime Gerrard, Reina, Mascherano, Bellamy, Kuyt, Hamman and Torres (at least) have all spoke positively about him.
In 5 seasons he won 2 trophies, got to 4 finals and got us within a whisker of the premier league title. All with those crap players he signed.
Amazing how his tenure here is reinagined based on a poor final season

  62. So we're the ones saying sack Dalglish and keep Suarez because of the football played by our FOOTBALL club, and you want this disaster to continue and sack our best player (by a mile)? Yeah, that makes total sense. What Suarez said is what every player does every game, he only had the guts to be honest about it. I don't agree with that either, but every player has his problems. He's our most fierce competitor, he wants to win by any cost and maybe we need a bit of that in our side, minus the cheating (that can be talked down by a good manager).
And as Dalglish is concerned, football legends are made in the real world. If he didn't want to tarnish his own name, he shouldn't had accepted to manage us. And you know what, Kenny is man enough to know that if every fan wants him to get the sack and he eventually does, we'll still love him al the same and won't be crying in the corners for his legend status, like you're doing. Get over yourself, we're all adults here.
And the thing about Rafa is that only now a lot of people is seeing the miracle he did for us with limited resources turning us into the best ranked team in europe and coming so close to winning the league, that with the worst owners money can buy. We want Rafa with good owners!!!
But, I mean, you're the one with the crusades against our players (suarez now) and managers (rafa before), so what's the point of arguing with you ? Maybe when we're playing in the championship you'll be happy.
    cheers

  67. I had a hypothesis, and I put up a poll to test it. I could've been proven wrong, no? I haven't put up anything 'as if it's completely random' - there's nothing random about it; I knew what the result would be before I even posted the poll - I just needed the poll to confirm my belief.

  70. How can I angle for the result? It's a yes or no question (!) - people have free will to answer however they like. People could've voted no, or not taken part at all. People chose to take part, and the majority made the choice to vote YES. That had nothing to do with me.

  72. I also accept that mistakes have been made in the transfer market. The biggest mistake I feel, though, was Kenny's failure to acquire a goal-scorer in January. If he had done so, maybe, just maybe, we wouldn't have to read innumerable articles asking for his head.

I would be astonished if he repeats the mistakes of the past in the transfer market. The question is whether he should be given the opportunity for us to find out.

The other thing we must remember is that Kenny has bought the players, they are now Liverpool players, whether we like it or not. He is using the players he expects to take the club forward next season to bed them in, get them accustomed to each other and his style of play.

To sack any manager during the season is a ridiculous and last resort step to be taken. With Hodgson, it needed to happen. Dalglish doesn't deserve it and there was never  a need to during this season, even during the bad run because results in the cup were sufficient and he deserved it at the very least.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I've have nothing against Benitez as a man, he seems an alright bloke. My problem with him was his man-management. He alienated players such as Crouch, Bellamy and Alonso, forcing them to leave and then brought in inferior players to replace them - Voronin, Riera and Aqualani. You mention that Mourinho and Ancelotti had bad seasons. Mourinho finished second last season whilst winning the cup. Ancelotti went from winning the double in his first season to not winning anything in his second but still qualified for the champions league. We went from 2nd to 7th in a year. Like I said in my original comment, if Benitez is truly world class why hasn't he picked up a job at one of the worlds top clubs. Is it because only Liverpool fans think he is a great manager?

Crouch was alienated because Rafa preferred a vastly superior player in Torres to him. Rafa rates Crouch highly but couldn't guarantee him enough playing time...check what Tony Pulis said about Rafa and Crouch. Bellamy was a trouble maker who has mellowed somewhat (though admittedly should have made an appearance in Athens but hindsight is a wonderful thing) though check out Bellamy's comments on Benitez on Rafa's website. And Alonso? Ok, Rafa could have dealt with it better...but before his last season, Alonso had had a couple of stinkers.

Voronin was a free transfer signed in the midst of the H and G era. Riera was good in his first year and Aquilani was our best player in the second half of the 2009/10 season. Stats prove this.

Ah but Mourniho and Ancelotti never had the owners we had who put zero investment into the team. Rafa shouldn't have even be challenging for the title based on Hicks and Gillett finances.

And he is a world class manager because of his record...winning trophies and leagues where ever he has gone (almost). Fact. No, I have friends who are Chelsea fans who would love Benitez at stamford Bridge. Even arsenal fans. United fans even recognise his ability and quality and admit he was dealt a very unlucky hand with the owners

  111. Aquilani has proven bugger all, to be labelled as one of the best passers in modern football.

Only once in his career has he started 30 league games in a season (last season at Juve). Apart from that one season at Juve, he has only ever had one season where he has started at least 20 league games in a season.

Rafa signed a player for £17/18m that was not only a crock but also a player who barely proven anything in Serie A on a regular basis. Yet somehow he is one of the best passers in modern football? pffft.

  113. Maxi has a great knack of popping up at the right time to score goals and of course, goals are what Liverpool need, but he just doesn't seem to be 'in' the game otherwise, same with Meireles. Kuyt is different, an absolute workhorse but appearing to lack technically on occasion. Kenny seems to favour players who get stuck in and put in a good shift every time, which is why I'm surprised Kuyt hasn't seen more game time. Age does seem to be against the above players, in Kenny's and FSG's eyes  anyway.

Last season, Dalglish vowed to get the right people in to get the best out of Andy Carroll. I agree the new acquisitions haven't performed and may just not  be good enough, but Downing and Adam were meant to be the ideal providers for Andy Carroll. Downing can do much better, I'm not sure Adam is good enough, owing to his lack of pace and just general clumsiness. Maxi isn't capable of providing the kind of delivery Downing and Adam were bought to produce.

  114. can i just point out jk that 4000 'fans' does not even encaptulate even 1% of our fan base and as has been pointed out proberly is not truely indicative of liverpool fans as i am sure that fans from other clubs happily voted a number of times to get the response they wanted. i understand the point you are trying to make but i dont think you can justify your beliefs based on the results of an online poll.

regarding your campaign to out luis suarez, u really need to give it a rest. you think we have poor league form as it stands can you imagine where we would be without suarez. also, and i really hope this doesnt come across as being racist as it is by no means meant to be, but do you think that your opinion is different from a vast majority of others because of nothing more than a culture differance. i am purely gussing by your name but i would say you are muslim, sikh or hindu and with all due respect there is a vast differance in culture beliefs on matters such as cheating and how it is perceived and even though you may be british (guessing) there is still a major differance in what is perceived due to your religion and there is nothing wrong with that what so ever. so what you believe to be nothing more that cheating others see as a passion and commitment from a player to give his all for the club or country he plays for.

again i really hope not to have offended with my comments as i am just trying to offer an explanation as to the vast difeerances of opinions on this specific matter.

  122. I guess the truth hurts....tbh i was quite shocked at how eager many fans seem to be to reinstate Rafa, esp at the expense of Kenny Dalglish......

Just can't see how its possible for Rafa to still have such a hold over the hearts and minds of LFC fans, and before anyone goes on to explain his exemplary record against such teams like Barca and Real Madrid and the squad we had etc etc, yes i know all that.......i was there....and i did'nt enjoy the Rafa reign half as much as many of his supporters did......

But anyway, i don't want to go into the Rafa debate etc, thats been done to death already, i respect the fact that he still has plenty of admirers and don't wish to upset anyone by having a rant.....

Suffice to say, i think had we done a little better since his departure..... then we would not be having this debate....

I must admit i am a little uneasy about Rafa's presence on Merseyside, im pretty sure that Reina Lucas Kuyt possibly a few others will still have close ties with him.....

I just feel that until he finally moves on we will struggle to....hopefully he wil find emplyment (elsewhere...) in the summer, but for sure those fans wanting Kenny sacked to get him back are forgetting themselves a little IMO, we should have a lot more respect for Kenny even if we do want him to step down etc come seasons end.

Jamie is right to point out how we are too quick to laud and applaud the individual whilst not looking at the bigger picture i.e. the Club.....i just wish the fanbase could be a little less naive and impressionable, it seems that we are more attracted to those personalities that flatter us and tell us want we want to hear...its all too desperate IMO summed up by the incredible defence of a certain individual called Luis Suarez...........

    DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE....

Not just on here but on other sites as well....the comments re Rafa have been circulating all over the place....

Would you prefer it if we didn't bring up the issue...???

  128. That's not true, they're not the same 4000 fans. When people feel strongly about something they vote. 130. Forget about bringing back Benitez even though he is not a bad manager. If he is world class, he would have been able to build up a team that can win the EPL title given his reasonably long spell here. He should have been able to build up a solid team where year in year out, he just need to twitch the team with some new players here and there.

But, as we saw, the team was heading for a meltdown. Although I like Benitez somewhat, but some of his decisions were questionable. Like the Aquilani purchase and many others, the telling of Alonso that he could be replaced that triggered his move to Real, failure to play Crouch consistently at one time when he was doing well for the team and scoring, deploying defensive tactics against teams where we needed points and had to be offensive.

And yes, world class managers manages team well wherever they are. Inter regressed under him.

Whilst, I don't dislike Benitez, its time for LFC to move on to another manager to build for the future. He had his opportunity. And Dalglish should not be sacked  but allowed to complete this season.  We should not keep looking back at Benitez if we want the club to move forward and bringing him back would be a step backward. Also not forgetting, the EPL landscape have changed now with the emergence of Man City, Spurs and maybe Newcastle.

    ReplyDelete
  131. We should give credit to Suarez for being openly honest about it. Look at the other side of the coin as well. If there is no possiblity of players diving, the defenders would whack the hell out of them like during the Pele days. At least now I noticed, defenders are a bit more cautious for fear of a red card and a penalty.

I think you are forgetting two little words: "Gillett" and "Hicks". The effect them two had on the club is devastating. Each passing month of each passing year, Rafa was asked to perform miracles due to the financial constraints them two placed on the club. INVESTMENT is what Rafa needed. Instead, he had to make do with breaking even in the latter years.

You say about world class managers managing teams where ever they are...any money you like, put Guardiola or Mourinho in at Anfield during the G + H era and they wouldn't have come anywhere close to what Rafa achieved. Amazing how many fans use Inter to beat Rafa. He was hamstrung from day one. an ageing team in need of a massive overhaul. But Moratti didn;t invest. lied to Rafa and then sold Balotelli who though not a starter under Mourinho has progressed into a good player of dubious character. I guess you are blaming Rafa for Inter's performance since he left then?

Dalglish shouldn't be sacked at any point and any decision on his future should either be made at the end of this season or the end of next season. ~The reason so many fans look back to Benitez is because he's a quality manager who was hamstrung so much, his talents couldn;t be properly displayed. There is a question mark on what the man would have done with backing. That's why people want to see him back. Not to sack Kenny for Rafa. They want Kenny to step aside graciously, work with Rafa to achieve the success Rafa was close to getting the club.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Jaimie, I am sure in one of your earlier posts, you had mentioned that Daglish had to leave. So basically you are saying we are hypocrites but you want to sit on both sides of the fence.

Daglish should never be sacked, and i honestly feel Liverpool as a club owe him one more season, after all he has done for the club.

You keep comparing him to Roy. Roy had done nothing for the club, and we were playing the wrong kind of football for a club such as Liverpool, but you keep defending him. I am sorry i would any day have Daglish over Roy. Under Roy we were closer to the bottom 3 than to the top. It was Daglish who took over and led us to a credible 6th position finish (2 games to coming 5th and an european spot).

This season we feel his buys may not have been good. However he deserves a second season and then we can decide from there. You never know Downing, Henderson, Adams may actually be good next season. How many times have we seen Nani criticized in his first season? how about Valencia, Fletcher, Evra. But look at them now they have started performing better for their team. I am sure at least 2 or 3 from Caroll, Henderson, Adams, Downing will actually be better next season.

I have faith under Daglish, he will not wish anything bad for Liverpool. We should trust him for the next season at least .

  138. Suarez said he would break the rules to gain an advantage, he didn't say that he was going to try and con the referee and try to get away with it. He was punished for his handball against Ghana and knew that his actions would mean him missing the final, if Uruguay had progressed.
There are many other examples in sport where deliberate cheating has gone on under the noses of the officials and the team/person gained from it.
I think sacking him would be ridiculous, as would sacking Dalglish. A few tweaks is all that's needed. No club gets to two cup finals by being rubbish, we have had the worst run of luck in the league for years, the team are making tons of chances, almost 30 of them have hit the frame of the goal, almost every opposition has had a man of the match performance against us.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Luis is no cheat. Its not cheating when you commit a foul and pay the price for your actions. It may not be in the *spirit* of the game but it isn't cheating. (cheating is diving in the box, getting a player sent off and winning your team the league as a result!)
And I for one don't want Rafa back. I love all he has done for the club but we must look forward and not back. I also don't want KK sacked. We must give him time to implement his vision. If he fails against his KPI's I have faith that our owners will take appropriate actioon and offer a dignified transition out of the managerial position. (Damien C obviously didn't meet his KPI's and the change was made)

    ReplyDelete
  140. He had a big respect for the fans too even though a lot of them were giving him prejudiced stick and scapegoated him. I don't think he would ever tell fans that they would need an "intelligence check". Or continue to back players in the press for a lousy job. The reasons why Dalglish keeps starting players out of form is because the number 1: they are probably earning more wages a week; it won't look good to Mr.Henry. and number 2: he doesn't want to admit to his mistakes of signing certain players. Benitez made mistakes, but he was very quick on eradicating those mistakes. He tinkered for perfection whereas Dalglish hopes it will pay off with no plan B.

  141. i think kenny daglish is doing fine.pls remember when he took over the squad from roy hodgson, the team is in shambles.to be able to win a trophy in his first full season in charge is already an achievement.give him time, he won the league before, beneitez didn't.Please give kenny daglish time, he can deliver for sure.

  142. Benitez needs a project. Inter gave him no funds with an aging squad. He wasted a fortune on a injured player you say. We could really do with Aquilani this season and last season, but no, it was still deemed a waste of money from Rafa and not Dalglish or Hodgson for shipping him out right? And then your view on an expensive fullback Glen Johnson. Get off. "
Liverpool were believed to have tabled the £10m bid on the basis that they were still owed £7m by Portsmouth from the purchase of Peter Crouch in the summer of 2008, with Liverpool willing to reduce the fee owed on signing Johnson".   He was bought for less than Henderson in his peak even though hes English. He turned down moves to Man City and Chelsea. He started off great for Liverpool, very menacing in attack, and has been hampered by injuries. I don't see where he his a waste of money, because if he was put on the market now he would fetch us atleast 10 mil. He is highly regarded in Spain, but no team has the structure or funding to challenge Barca and Real Madrid, even though he did just that with Valencia. Its all about EGO with Dalglish. He was winning great last season with the players he had. Where did it go wrong? He signed a bunch of players that have no form and is STUBBORNLY supporting them. I could be wrong and he ruthlessly replaces these players with better ones, but he isn't letting the fans get a notion of that idea at all since he has a grudge with the press and people he thinks needs an "intelligence check".

  143. Agreed. It' s your opinion plus another 3999 fans only. No chance whatsoever for KD to be axed right now or even at the end of the season. Meanwhile while waiting for Rafa to be back go support his charity work.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Nah, he had telepathic understanding with gerrard and he had so much finesse (key word). He looked good in his games for Liverpool when he came back from injury. He did more Liverpool in the short time that he had than Adam Downing and Henderson have done all season in stats and overall performance.

    ReplyDelete
  145. yeah gerrard and Torres were immense when they played together, but they had injuries galore. Torres would be starting but Gerrard would be out and vice versa, they were also missing Aquilani, with two like for like midfielders in Lucas and Mascherano, but Lucas wasn't properly developed back then. Add that to the lack of funding.

  146. The LFC squad under King Kenny is beginning to show signs of promise, when one of our players scored, did you guys see that we're full of team spirit and showed an act of togetherness, that  shows what King Kenny has done and is capable of. As always, give time for King Kenny and the LFC squad, we just had some bad luck in scoring/matches which didnt come our way.

I for one, am not eager for Rafa's return, Rafa's has done us good in the past, winning us the CL trophy, but thats all gone and dusted. Those "so called fans" who had voted* have no right to say King Kenny should be sacked. if you "so called fans" want instant success. you should go straight away and change legions for the team who will win this season's Champions League. or go play Football Manager.

I've not want once called for KD to be axed. I'm a massive Rafa fan ofcourse but by no means am I calling for his appointment now and the sacking of KD. KD is a liverpool legend and he is owed a reasonable amount of chances to get it right.

My ideal scenario would be for Kenny to stay and improve and take the club to the heights we once were. In the mean time, Benitez takes charge of Madrid after Mourinho has failed big time and Benitez turns Real into a trophy machine. then when KD decides to quit, Rafa takes the reigns a la Paisley and we march on.

Where have I ever said I want KD sacked? Just because I love Benitez and wax lyrical about him, doesn't mean I can't love Dalglish just as much and want to give him time to do well again.

On this website, it seems if you admire a certain manager, you are opposed to another manager? Strange

    ReplyDelete
  150. I completely agree with that.

Kenny's the man to bring us back to the top.

I'm afraid I'm on the verge of not reading this blog any more. I keep coming across the headlines online - they read as if they were written for The Sun.

  153. RB should not have been sacked in the first place. Since RB has gone so to have our best players.  I do think to bring him back is a mistake purely because of the weight of expectation. KK signings have not been successful and his team selections/interviews have been mind boggling. Playing players out of position, not creating an environment where there is competition for places. KK is not the future. FSG should have pursued their original plan of hiring a young manager maybe? It is no fun to watch LFC at the moment but support them we shall. YNWA

  154. I'm with TomBom I'm afraid. There are well established standards for calculating the reliability of polls.

Given the nature of the poll here there is no way you can justify saying "4000 Liverpool fans" You have no evidence to back that up.

You also don't have any evidence that people who don't agree with you would somehow use the evidence anyway if it suited them - just because it's convenient. You can't possibly believe you're the only ethical person around.

You can reasonably say some of those people may have been Liverpool fans.

It's not as if fans of other teams don't stir the pot is it? I don't think saying that amounts to paranoia. I'm sure a "poll" asking if Ferguson should be sacked and stripped of his Knighthood would get a fair few fans of other teams voting for.

    I would :)

    ReplyDelete
  155. How did you count the people who chose not to take part then?

I understand what you're trying to do but if you studied the subject (polling) you might understand why reasonable people have trouble with your methodology and more importantly your conclusions. It's an essential component of most social sciences - you could always send the article to a professor of Economics or Sociology or Psychology for example for a critique of your method.

  156. You've still never managed to explain what this "modernized football" is.

  157. Exactly.

Seriously. 1 season. Sack the manager? Some of these people should be Chelsea supporters. They could have two or three managers a season then. Perhaps even one every game.

  160. You saw nothing of Aquilani, does your point not remind you of one Andy Carroll? Gerro once said he has never played with an exceptional player, look at pre-season, Carling cup, you do not seem to be very good at judging player quality.Aquaman is pure class box-to-box midfielder, you should not watch EPL on watch Serie A, La Liga etc you will learn a lot. Bellas was a disruptive player then, the golfer! Alonso wanted to do his own private thing before club. Valencia, Inter and the Reds, this man has an outstanding CV and stood for the Liverpool way and is loved by all.

  161. Jamie how did the fans tell Fsg to sack KK exactly . Was it by email . Letter . Phone call or dud they stop singing the fields of anfield rd and KK name at the semi . I attended the semi final against everton and I can clearly say KK can play and can he play as I like all the other fans sang our hearts out and sang dalglish . There are millions of Liverpool fans in thd world all with equal say. Liverpool kop has a political view that KK should replaced and Suarez should be sold, we can argue how that supports the club another time. But the site and your articles are based on that belief which is find as that's free speech and your opinion . But to say liverpool fans tell fag to

  162. I believe you are not a Red, that is the worst comment to come from an individual about Rafa's charity work! He has committed himself to LFC in more ways than one, more than most of the so-called LFC legends, players that have earned millions..I would reverse that s..ty comment. Rafa YNWA

    ReplyDelete
  163. I'd take Benitez over Dalglish any day, he has a much better tactical awareness of the game, he can attract quality players to the club (not 2nd rate players like Dalglish), and the guy loves the club. i admit that Benitez has made a few howlers in the transfer market, but that's because he didn't have the resources afforded to Dalglish. Just imagine the team and the players we'd have now if he had!!! Please Mr Henry, give Dalglish his p45 and bring Benitez back.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Eventually one has to be fired to make way for the other, at the moment it really looks dead-cert that Rafa is the ideal replacement available to the Reds, he is LFC through and through, remember the owners' pledge to go back to the LFC Way?

    ReplyDelete
  165. We need to get Rafa back before he is poached by someone like Man City. If he goes there then he will build the greatest team this country has ever seen.

Let Kenny see out the end of the season and step aside gracefully. Maybe he could resume his ambassadorial role or work with the youth teams. We need a world class manager who knows his way around European football. I said at the time that if we allowed Rafa to leave it would be disasterous for the club. We have an opportunity to put that right. Few clubs ever get a second chance. We need to take it.

Remember, two Champions League Finals, 2005 and 2007, and another semi-final in 2008. The second highest points tally in Liverpool's entire history in 2008/09. Better than in 17 of our 18 title winning seasons. We were almost the finished article and then it was sabotaged.

  169. Why did you not consider a similar poll for Suarez?  That will have laid a lot of this ghosts to rest on his commitment for our team.  You should take  the stance of every loyal supporter and back-off from Suarez, he has done more than enough on his own to keep KD in the job, but then thanks for the thought provoking articles and lets all express our opnions openly

    ReplyDelete
  170. Just imagine...liverpool without Champion League...who do you think rafa can get? still alves? silva? villa?

    ReplyDelete
  171. I think Kenny needs another season to show what he is capable of. I think with the cups etc he has done enough to warrant that, however all eyes should be on the league next season and seeing if that can improve.
I do not think he should ever be sacked but if things are not going right he should be encouraged to step down or move up to another role.
As for Raffa, should Kenny step down or move roles at whatever stage I would be happy to see him also return for a 2nd chance with the new ownership and no excuses should he fail. I said at the time the guy should not have taken the Inter job cos I think he needed a break from the game, he was loosing it a little and showing signs of frustration and stress. I think the guy looks a lot better after this long stinted break however unintentional etc. I think a refreshed Benitez with the backing of these new owners and having been given his second and maybe last chance with the club would grab the opportunity with both hands and do a great job. Id have the guy back tomorrow, id afford him the second chance as much as I would Kenny, they both brought us trophies and they both love this club with a passion. They both have their critics and complainers about what they have/have not done well despite bringing trophies to the club etc so why should one be any-more favoured over the other? Right now Kenny should be as we should back the current manager but should things go south and Raffa came in we should afford him the same luxury.

    ReplyDelete

  173. Also as with any poll on this site the question and phrasing is always leading, to try and sway peoples opinion to a certain option.

    ReplyDelete
  174. The point is that at some point more than 90% of footballers will 'cheat' or commit an act of gamesmanship as it will be called in some sectors. Footballers constantly appeal for throw ins they know should be the other teams, complain about decisions they know are correct and try to influence the ref. It is the way football is I'm afraid, i don't particularly like it but if you don't want to see it then you cant watch ANY football match. To suggest a player should be sacked for making an honest comment to the press that he would do what ever it takes to help Liverpool win even handball on the line is ludicrous. Somebody at the club should have a quiet word about what is and what isn't said to the press but that's it.Should Henchoz have been sacked for stopping the ball going in with his hand during the 2000-2001 FA Cup final? Did you celebrate that victory or walk out in disgust?

    ReplyDelete
  175. Jamie as much as you have been on Suarez's case for so long it makes me think that you are being illogical, he said he would handle 'LITERALLY' LIKE YOU.  I did suggest to you about running a poll, the questions will determine who takes part or abstains, but if you had a 3rd option which says 'Would you accept KD stepping aside and Rafa taking over at the end of the season?' then you would have had a serious enough response.  KD has been a great player/manager but his latest tenure has been horrible but we need to respect our own, we are not Chelsea.  Please stop the campaign against Suarez, he has done more for our team than most of the other overpaid, gutless players in our team and kept KD in a job too.  Try an article on Skartel i think he deserves one.YNWA

  178. I think that poll was set up in a clever way to be fair. I think what most fans were showing was their enthusiasm for Benitez to return; not necessarily for Dalglish to be sacked immediately to accommodate that. You might well say that that's not what was asked, but if people felt that their vote was actually meaning that scenario would eventuate then I'm sure they would have reflected and said they would prefer that the change happen at the end of the season - and not to the embarrassment of Dalglish. IMO. (After all this is only a forum)

And I don't think any fan is wrong for having positive feelings for Benitez, given our achievements with him at the helm.

    ReplyDelete
  179. You're overthinking it. What's amusing is how people always try and discredit conclusions they disagree with but when it comes to views that match their own, you hear no nothing.
It's textbook: people don't like the poll result so suddenly they come up with every reason under the sun to find fault with the process. It's just another form of hypocrisy.

one bad season doesnt make you a bad manager? if thats what your saying then why are you jumping on the get kenny out wagon after 1 full season. contradicting yourself mate, i say give kenny another season, and see what happens then, he bought players who on paper were good players and better than what we had, its not his fault that when they play there not up to it

    ReplyDelete
  184. Aquilani is not benitez 1st choice player that he wants to sign. The reason benitez sign him is because the board asked him to do so because Roma still owed from Liverpool for Riise transfer just like Glen Johnson case. He wants to sign Javi Martinez or Gokhan Inler at first. At Inter it's similar to what happen to AVB at Chelsea. Inter senior players refused to play for him because he gave chance for young player like Biabiany & Coutinho to play, and their problem still not ended after 4 managers got sacked.

  190. ?? kenny has got us to 2 domestic finals his first year back, and without a particularly deep squad too. Adam, Gerrard, Lucas, Johnson, Bellamy, Agger all suffered injuries this season because of too many domestic games, if we get a deeper squad or get eliminated from the cups earlier next season, we will have longer periods with a strong team allowing us to play our best football. Suarez and Reina have been suspended for a combined 12 games this season for no reason in Reina's case, and one man's word against another in Suarez's case. Give Kenny longer, after all he has produced our best looking football since before Torres arrived. I have no doubt's that LFC are only going to go forward if Kenny stays at the club next season.

    ReplyDelete
  191. A couple of seasons back I said Lucas will come good for LFC... a lot of people laughed at me for saying that...this season he has been one of our better players till he got injured & out for the season & in a number of games we have missed Lucas; Spearing is still learning the trade of holding midfielder, Gerrard has been out for a number of games, Suarez missed a number of games, We are creating chances but what we have been missing is a right winger & a out & out striker to get 20/ 30 goals....We have rebuilt 1/3 of the 1st team this season....Carra needs to retire & convert Kelly to centre back...We have a decent squad that needs time to gel....We have some good youth players coming through academy....

    ReplyDelete
  192. Rafa was good for LFC but for the most part way too defensive in his style; far too often we did not kill teams off, which is why we never won the title...KD is the right man for the job & all this talk of wanting Rafa back is a bad idea....

  194. Nah what? Nah, he is one of the best passers in modern football, on the basis of starting 9 league games for us? Nah, he wasn't a crock when we signed him? Nah, he has proved a lot as a player, despite only 2/3 times in his career starting at least 20 league games in a season?

He proved bugger all in a Liverpool shirt because he hardly played. Whatever he did show in a Liverpool shirt isn't enough to say he is one of the best passers in modern football.

I watched quite a few games when he was at Juve. To be fair, He did good on loan at Juve last season but he was nothing out of this world or special, in terms of passing.

I suppose because of the rubbish we have had to put up with the last two seasons, it amplifies 10x what Aquilani did in a Liverpool shirt, thus given him some sort of legendary status, despite only starting 9 league games. Ledley King II.

There is no perfect manager.. there's always something negative about everybody... Rafa can deliver success in any competition, he also sign our key players out from nothing like Pepe, Alonso, Masch, Lucas, Skrtel, Agger, and Kuyt, but he might slightly have a trouble in man management section... depends on which area that the owners want to see, if they want to see immediate success in the league, they can hire the likes of Rafa or Mou or Ancelotti.. but if they are patient enough to see liverpool buying average local players and waiting years to see them lifting the EPL cup... then they can keep kenny...
my point is.. I don't think Kenny can deliver the success in premier league and european stage.. but if they are satisfied with domestic cups then they can have him.. but I'm sure all Liverpool fans around the world wants to see Steven Gerrard lifting both League title and Champions before he retired, right??
I'm not against Dalglish or pro Rafa, but I want immediate success in EPL and soon enough in CL too, so to hire Mou is impossible.. but Rafa is unemployed.. he might have changed this time under the FSG..

  196. It is because Rafa and Suarez shine and shined for Liverpool and you want people to fool themselves with the 1980's.I thought destruction of the LFC reputation would be keeping Dalglish so that he buys mediocre players and ensure that ManU wins 24 league tittles while we are at 18.Or a Madrid or AC Milan win CL number 10 and 8 respectively while we rot at 5.Do you people ever get serious!!!!!!
