"He stumbled" - Dalglish defends Carroll over blatant dive...

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has defended Andy Carroll over his obvious dive against Newcastle, arguing that the 35m striker 'stumbled' in the box, and did not deliberately go down to get a penalty.

Dalglish's season has been defined by pig-headed support of the indefensible, and in his press conference after Liverpool's shambolic 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, he was at it again. When asked if he'd be having a word with Carroll about the dive - for which he was booked - Dalglish claimed:

"I don't think he [Carroll] went down deliberately to try and get a penalty. If you watch it, he was struggling to stay upright when he was running onto it. He said he never went down deliberately; he just stumbled over".

Stumbled? If you believe that you'll believe anything. It was as clear-cut a deliberate dive as you're likely to see:

Andy Carroll dive Newcastle United

That wasn't the funniest part of the interview though. When he was asked about Danny Simpson's alleged hand-ball on the line, Dalglish - without a hint of irony - said:

"You'd have to go to vision express if you think that wasn't a penalty kick. We never got it; maybe we're not vocal enough with referees, I don't know".

Vision Express? Clearly, it's Dalglish who needs glasses if he doesn't think Carroll dived. Of course, I don't expect Kenny to admit one of his players cheated, but to go the other way and try to convince people that Carroll just fell over? That's just silly.

another example of his stubborness and thinking fans will lap up any nonsense he speaks.i'd have more respect for him if he criticised carroll and said he should have scored.
sometimes you simply can't defend the indefensible.

We should all
have to start wondering:

1.
Are John W. Henry, Thomas Werner, Ian
Ayre, and Damiel Comolli possessed with the same feelings of humiliation and embarrassment
as most of LFC’s fans are by watching one of the most historic teams to be humiliated
by all of its opponents in 2012?

2.
Do they really have the pure
intentions, as they are trumpeting, to turn around the fortunes of this team?

3.
When will they finally realize that
as long as they do not act decisively and immediately to appoint a world class
manager and sack Kenny Dalglish this team will always be on the red alert zone?

4.
Will John W. Henry and Thomas Werner eventually
and finally be consulted honestly by the football experts and informed that
what it is happening to LFC in 2012 is not a normal and healthy condition/development?

5.
Will Ian Ayre as the Managing
Director and Damiel Comolli as the football director finally start acting as
pure professionals and step aside any emotions of favoritism towards Kenny
Dalglish and finally advise/consult John W. Henry and Thomas Werner to make the
right decision(s)?

6.
Will Kenny Dalglish finally start
acting as a pure Liverpoollian and step down as LFC’s manager as he can help
this team find its recovery path?

Don't really care what he says anymore, what is important is that the owners need to end this nonsense as soon as the season ends, and a manager with genuine ability needs to be brought in place to fix this mess.

I think the way react to such comments is usually preconditioned by whether we like/support the manager or not at the time the comment is made.

Some will argue that a coach is right in defending/not criticizing players in public /only in private/ while others will argue in favour of the opposite approach.

Still others will take differing views on what is right/wrong depending on who has said it: Rafa or Kenny, for instance.

He's an embarrassment to Liverpool football club and has been for some time, the Suarez cover up was supposed to be the last straw for many fans but still the club won't sack him.
Reina is a fool also for this:

No one is saying he performed at a lower standard than the other players.

But you like Kenny are in denial that he "tripped"... he dived and wasted the chance to take us into the lead - but then again quality players dont need to dive they just finish the chance - guess Stevie G has been doing a bit of coaching on the side at Melwood...

Suraj Rughoonundun said...

Liverpool fans had had enough of Dalglish's favoritism towards players who doesn't worth to play for a club with such a standing. Very disappointing performance today, and if ever we would have been knocked out in both Carling cup and FA cup, I wonder what kind humiliation and tantrums Liverpool supporters had to bear. I shouldn't be saying this but Kenny should step down. A team is losing and needed goals, the coach is making changes in the last 10 minutes of the game??
With the absences of Johnson, Lucas and Agger, we have been suffering defensively. Reina is no more a top class goalkeeper. Surprisingly, in 2012, Wigan earned more league points than Liverpool.

money_balls said...

normally i would agree on this one, but Carroll is the king of falling over. He makes Heskey look stable. If Kenny believes he is to clumsy to run 2 steps in a straight line I believe him.

At least a dive would have been intentional. Falling on your face with an open goal has much less dignity

superreds01 said...

Blatant dive, looked like he was worried he might score against the club he supports. Clearly a penalty for the handball, no idea why sometimes refs give them and sometimes they don't. It's hardly ever that someone deliberately handballs but if the ball is going in and is stopped from doing so by an arm it's a pen surely?

Watched the Perch/Reina thing a few times and I'm not sure, looks like contact sometimes and not on others but Reina showed intent so he would have been sent off regardless wouldn't he?

Most important thing another spineless and inept performance

you may be on to something here, on viewing it is a blatant dive, but we are talking about Andy Carroll, this may genuinley have been his best effort in rounding a keeper, its as if the thought process of what to do next got to him and he collapsed - this explains a lot.

Madness said...

all joking aside I have to admit for the first time I did feel sorry for him. Hear me out...

He was doing ok at Newcastle, the town he lived in and the club he supported, they played to his strengths, and he looked like a threat, but not a high calibre player by any means. He did not want to leave but if Liverpool were stupid enough to throw 35mm at Mike Ashley then of course they were gonna force him out - so now he is stuck at Anfield where the style is not focused on him so his lack of ability is being exposed in relation to his price tag - this is Liverpools fault in many ways.

To go back and hear everyone booing him at every turn and then to be subbed must have been hard to take because I bet more than anyone he is regretting leaving Newcastle and wishes that it never happend.

Carroll will never be a great player - a big man who does not have the touch or football brain of Berbatov, Drogba, Ibrahimovich or Crouch - but at Newcastle he was the local hero and must be pretty annoyed that his career has spiralled downwards and is the laughing stock of the city because Liverpool were negligent with transfer money.

As much as I am critical of his ability I did feel bad for him today...

RedSilver said...

IF Carroll, really did avoid scoring, it's a big if as that's quite a serious assumption. But if you're right, then bloody hell, Carroll should never step foot into Melwood/Anfield again and his wage should be suspended. Football is our happinessin this world. LFC is our family member, to see someone we trust abuse it like that is not on. Goals to football team is like air to a human.

Wonder whether you boo boys were as vocal when we had winning runs chances are not so.  You pride yourself on getting as much grime out of negative moments in our LFC history. Some support!!!!!

Kenny is under unbelievable pressure damn if he does anything.  Whereas you all hav ethe luxury to spout out cheap crap without the pressure of having to make those suppositions reality.  What a bunch of gutless wasters and I'm not taking about our team.

If he support players publicly you moan.  He picks different formation you moan, moan moan moan . Should he be slagging his players of or admitting his weaknesses each week? How does that make things better.

The players are shot through id like to see any manager on this earth get something out of those players.  JW should be planning as I'm sure he is to give Kenny til dec2012 or the end of the season to motivate them players to perform.  Gues what even if he did you all will be saying he didnt do it against top opposition. We won a cup by penalties. Negative negative negative. I just wish you were as critical of yourself and what you talk about maybe then you'll be speaking truth.    LFC for life!!!!

Moderation is the key, I don't like some of the comments towards Kenny, they are damn right disrespectful. However fans are allowed to vent about the football especially when things are falling apart so horrendously. I try and support Kenny, I still do, but he's making it so damn hard in many ways. Why does he keep rotating players? Why does he keep playing low grade players and ignore young talent like Sterling and Shelvey. Why can't he see that certtain players are blatantly not trying? Why make subs always after 70 mins? I feel so sorry for Kenny and all the haters need to stop the personal attacks, but come on if we don't vent to each other, then who will we vent to? On the positive side Doni might make his debut for Liverpool next time around and Reina who has lost form will get some time off.
What has happened to Gerrard, he was again terrible. Flanagan is really overrated youngster, i don't think he is good enough, he is also an average footballer. Time for Carragher to retire and to sell Spearing both not good enough either. Whenever Carragher plays, Liverpool play so deep and that creates lot of space for opposition to exploit, Coates should now start every game, don't see what carragher is offering to the team. This run of form is just as bad as Liverpool suffered under Hodgson and maybe even worse. Everybody can see that Liverpool haven't moved forward at all but won't admit it because of respect for Kenny but truth is  Kenny is doing a terrible job in the league and the way things are going Liverpool might not even finish in top 10.

Snore -

Winning runs? Are you talking about this season?

There is some negativity as we are 9 points off a relegation battle - that is closer to us than 6th place is at the moment - do you understand that?

His support of players this year has been absolutley shameful and disrespectful to us fans - he has told us that the squad does not need to be improved and if anyone is coming in this summer they would have to be of some quality to replace who we already have - ok Kenny we know you are trying to boost the players but call a spade a spade for gods sake - his signings were awful but he is being stubborn in defending them.

And you ask should he be slagging his players off? Did he not do that after the Bolton game? yes eat your words

The players are shot through? What does that even mean? Kenny is the manager and it is his job to get the best out of his players - he cant seem to do that at the moment so there is an issue which is why we are debating this.

You give yourself little credibility in questioning why fans decide to scrutinise the team or manager, after all this site is based on that so why are you always on here moaning about it? Its as if you dont understand it but complain anyway?

What do you want an article written that states we lost today but lets look forward to the Semi final - followed by posts from fans indicating "yaaay", "LFC for life" , "Long Live the King", "Lets tally up the points at the end of the season and see where we are" ... if your after that then I suggest you stop posting and moaning about people who are raising questions you clearly cannot handle.

I feel sorry for Andy Carroll. The move to Liverpool has simply not worked for him. It doesn't matter how much effort he puts into each game, although it's usually half-arsed, all he seems to do is fall over. The most he's managed to achieve since his move from Newcastle is to embarrass himself with his inept, clueless bungling and I doubt very much if he'll see out the full length of his contract. LFC must get a proven goal scorer as a partner for Suarez in the summer. If we hadn't bought Carroll then we wouldn't have needed to buy Downing who is another massive disappointment. We'll be lucky if we finish the season still in the top ten. I wonder how different our season would have been if we'd kept that 35 million and spent it on someone with real ability during the transfer window last summer. I bet KD wouldn't be getting the stick he's getting now.

It could of been a defining moment in Carroll's Liverpool career! Score and we go one up, it shuts up his home town crowd booing him and gives us an early goal which we don't get, it would have been a great goal as well power and hunger to win and keep the ball! Most all it should have driven Carroll on more to stand up and say yes I am Liverpool number 9 not fall over! It wasn't even a dive !

Madness said...

To be honest with you I dont think that can be used as an excuse.

Every year, for every team decisions will go against them and for them in a single season - they pan out - like the Rodwell red card that went for us at Goodison, and the Spearing red card that worked against us at Fulham.

If we are constantly blaming refs that is a desperate indication that we are clinging on to decisions in matches that have not been given (rightly or wrongly) and rely on those decisions to win games. This season it appears that ref decisions have gone against us but only because we are not wining games / or losing games from relying on our own play. Sure an injustice will happen once or twice but it is the same for everyone...

Let just say slagging off for kenny to go is frankly kneejerk ...more jerk than knee in your case.!!!

The football decision accepts we have screwed up again its one more ear to add to the 22 previous years that KK had nothing to do with.  He deserves as much a go as any of the previous managers bar RH. I just didn't like him there is a fine balance between beign a bad manager and a laughing stock.  Mclaren had a great rep at manuire thenturned into a joke...wally with the brolly. RH was going that way fast.  Thankfully KK is to well respected for that to happy why? He has put so much into this club and the game he is having a bad moment.  Yes we may need to find another manager but talent is not that easy to spot Carrol is a case in point grass is always greener aint it????

Chris said...

So either he dived or he fell over, and whichever of the two it was in front of a open goal that he could not have failed to score from.  And yet when Cisse, who cost Newcastle less than a third of what Carroll cost Liverpool, was presented with a similar situation he rounded the keeper and scored. Not good enough either way from Carroll, not nearly good enough.

Madness said...

The issue is now a lot of the media are picking up on it so it cant be avoided. People like Hansen have been supercritical of AVB this year but lost for words when it comes to talking about Kenny so I think the media pressure on Kenny thus far has been lenient.

There are several teams behind us who can leap frog us so the possibility of an 11th / 12th place finish could be very realistic. For that reason the scrutiny on Kenny is justified - why he cannot just face it I do not know - Hodgson handled it but the fans didnt like what he was saying but at least he didnt avoid the questions.

5 defeats in last 6 prem games

Club transfer record broken for flop of a striker

Total of 117mm spent with no return from players purchased

No European distraction to achieve 4th spot

Less games played than Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Look at the league table and u might get a nose bleed. Dickhead, thinking u know more than the majority.

them apples aint bad

But whe he was dragging our season from 19th place last with nothing to show was he not still the same poor manager we see this season.  Basically over the same post christmas period he has had one fantastic year and one crap year the difference being he has brought in some new boys.  The issue is the new players.

A full season under their belt they will not be new next season judge rom aug to dec2012 then moan to your hearts content Ill have no argument there.

No- Owners not to blame. Leaving manager to manage as they should. Dalglish has let everyone down especially them. We would complain if they interfered ala Abramovich etc. Saved club 2 years ago leave them alone.

Ill say it again, the 3-4 million hit we took on Robbie Keane is looking sweet!  The £45 million hit we will take on Downing, Henderson and Carroll...not so sweet.

I'm not saying I want Rafa back but if we didn't have someone to come in who was better than Rafa we should never have replaced him.  Yeah he lost the dressing room (Carra and Gerrard to be precise!) but does that mean LFC should suffer for the happiness of two 'legends' who wanted a brown nosing British manager who would respect their status?

Carra was at it again this morning in support of Kenny.  Could the reason that Carra didn't support Rafa be because Rafa acknowledged Carra was past it as a player and was refusing to give him a new contract..... No can't be.....

Liverpoolmafioso said...

I don't want Rafa back..personally I believe Juergen Klop is the man for the liverpool job. I want a german or a dutchman right now. pass and move doesnt seem to cut it in this generation.

Absolutely right. The sad thing is that all these so called True Reds and LFC For Life view the situation through blinkers. For the most part they are making a very sentimental  judgement on what is infact, a serious situation. Dalglish is an employee of FSG and, as such, has invested millions of pounds of his employer's money very very poorly. Targets have not been reached and worldwide 'brand' is suffering because of his lack of foresight and ability.  Kenny Dalglish was a brilliant footballer for LFC. His care and devotion for his wife are beyond reproach, and his compassion to the famillies of the Hillsboro victims is legend. That is the sentimental side. As a senior manager of FSG he is failing to reach targets, he is failing to generate fresh income and he is totally unable to produce a positive forecast for next season with the quality of staff on hand at this moment. A change of direction is needed.

Very frustrating day for Carroll today, i thought he was playing with a lot of determination and looked quite sharp in his movement etc up till that point..........

It wasn't a stumble or at least it diden't look like it, for me he went down because he was not going to get the ball onto his left foot...didn't have the confidence to take it on.....so went down in the hope that he would get a pen.

Okay, its nothing knew....players are always doing it, Suarez does a lot more diving than Carroll.....but today the spotlight was on him....and he must have been kicking himself for not just trusting in his right foot.....

Kenny has to defend him, but i agree the comment that he stumbled is not exactly going to go down too well with an already pissed off fanbase that is losing its patience.....

I do feel sorry for Carroll tbh and have done all season really, been benched and given bit parts, played without wingers.....again NO Downing.....

Hasn't helped his cause that much though at times i think he has let his frustrations get to him........today he did that for sure.

Carroll had just been booed by his home town fans all game where he was player from the age of 11 don't think Kenny sticking the knife in on TV would have made the situation any better for the club.
Pardew's interview he said the ball hit the player's shoulder!Carroll will hopefully learn from it and the rest of the team.Kenny said it was a sending off for Reina as well in the interview.

We seem to have been in transition for 22 years.  And when we finally look like competing for the title we allow the best manager we've had in that time leave.  The sad truth is that with Dalglish at the helm and his stubborness to see how bad his players are, we will NEVER EVER be a top half team let alone a top 4 one.  How bad do Carroll and Henderson need to be before he drops them for good?

Billy said...

Would we really be worse off if Reina, Gerrard and Carragher were allowed to leave?

For a Target Man that is supposed to exude strength and supposed to run at the defense and show them a bit of abuse, I have only ever seen Carroll dive since coming to LFC. I'm disappointed that the only defense Carroll can give a hard time and push around is Oldham...

I'm not sure if he's trying to be more like Torres (he did go to ground often), but he should at least try to act more like Shearer...whom he was slated to be the next of.

None of Dalglish's signings have pleased me. After watching Suarez whine about every decision against him and giving our beloved LFC a besmirched name, I'm through with the lot of new signings. Put in some youth for the rest of the season. At least they have the passion (maybe) to be a red.

bad day is it!!! Your insults are cheap just think I read them and think of you who spent so much time in compiling your best words. What a tube!!! Do you fancy putting a picture to your stupidty? You are now the majority with the facts yet the best you have got is to insult. Calm down calm down soft lad.

Dsoe70 said...

Absolutely the sooner it is over the better. Neither KK, Commoli, JW cant hide they know they owe the fans something.  Lets see what they have for us.  We need a strong team of players managers just keepings ticking over but the players need to have the basics. I'm prepared to give any player a year after that its about business.

This is article is completely wrong. The open hostility towards one of our own when the article's assertion isn't even correct, makes me sick. Is this a Liverpool fan site or haters site? Watch the video people; he tripped!

It's been a bad season, but Alex Ferguson is now one year closer to retiring. I admit he's a good manager, but a significant amount of Man Utd's success is down to him being a bully and a jammy *******.

I'd give Andy a " PERFECT 10" for that dive reminds me of Nadia hehehehe

How low they have fallen...They are so impotent that now they just want penalties to try to win games. They keep fighting with referees for handballs or imaginary fouls in the box just to get a penalty bacause they lack any skills to score a normal goal during a match. They should all be ashamed of themselves. Kenny should resign now if he has any pride left in him. He should also take all the shites he bought with him when he leaves. They are all a disgrace to this football club.

Renzon99 said...

Caroll probably panicked when he realised he had produced his best piece of play for over a year against his home town club and was about to score. Because he still values Newcastle over Liverpool he thought he would try and win a pen so he wouldn't have to worry aboot the bonny toon.

I dont normally lower my standards with such responses but in your case one had to reply to your shocking statement. You are a minority and will always be....again i refer to facts and the numbers on this site prove ur a lone ranger with no friends..

Super_Drupa said...

I just wanted to voice my disappoint on Liverpool as a team under 'King Kenny'. He has all the passion in the world but lacks the modern fotballing management skills needed to run a club the size of Liverpool. No doubt he'll bottle it and resign pretty soon, if not just before the end of the season, then at the end of the season. Time to think of canditates ready and competent to take on the managerial post that a club like LFC deserve.

gabweb said...

And not knowing that something needs to be done when it is clear for everyone to see is the sign of a fool.

What the last 22 years have to do with the fact that this team has been poorly assembled and poor managed is anyone's guess. Totally irrelevant. You are going to have a lot of 'bad moments' when you buy the kind of players that our manager has bought. And, yes, the grass is always greener when you spend 35 million on an unproven youngster. It wasn't hindsight, people knew it was wrong at the time.

gabweb said...

Delusional even.

gabweb said...

Fickle!!

How about supporters who appear to not care about falling standards?

You do not appear to actually know anything about football and seem intent simply to make irrational comments and get into petty squabbles.

gabweb said...

Yes, it is clear for most people to see. Poor signings, poor tactics, poor team selection, poor man management.

But, hey, according to some, we need to show patience when the team is on a steep downward curve.
