Angry Ex-Reds boss slams 'embarrassing' Liverpool. Harsh or fair?

Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans has slammed Liverpool's continuing inability to put chances away, and he's once again called on the club to sign a goal-poacher in the summer.

After Liverpool's latest home defeat against West Brom, Evans told LFC TV:

"It's embarrassing to dominate a match so much and not win.

"At this level, to be a great team, you've got to have a far better percentage of your chances in the back of the net.

"At Anfield, we've been our own worst enemy. Good teams sometimes win with three or four chances, but we can't win with 20 chances.

"Had we scored 20% of our chances throughout the season, we'd be in the top four right now".

During Evans' tenure as manager, scoring goals was easy, especially with the likes of Robbie Fowler, Stan Collymore and Steve McManaman in the team, playing alongside legends like John Barnes and Ian Rush.

Rushie was at Anfield for the West Brom game, and he must've pulling his hair out at the poor finishing on display.

Alongside Evans, Reds legend Ian St. John dismissed the possibility of an Academy striker being promoted to the first team in an attempt to solve the goalscoring crisis. He said:

"You're not going to bring a kid up from the youth team, put him in there and expect him to do it [score 20 goals a season]"

Why not? It's not as if the likes of Raheem Sterling, Adam Morgan et al could do any worse than Stewart Downing (no league goals/assists), or Andy Carroll (4 league goals), is it?

Dalglish’s time is up as Liverpool manager!
This Liverpool under him cannot be called a real football team at any
    point!  Unfortunately Damien Comolli’s
belief that the restrictions placed upon him led to Liverpool signing
average players who have underperformed this season is becoming a
nightmare!  The LFC fans in all over the
world are counting the days to pass as they can sit and watch their beloved
team make them proud not embarrass and humiliate them.  Against West Bromwich the flashing amber
light switched off and the flashing red light switched on!  Standard Chartered is paying for sponsorship £
20,000,000 a year, Warrior sports will be paying £
25,000,000 per year, so John W. Henry and Thomas Werner should protect those
sponsors’ investments by coming face-to-face with the reality.  We will all be grateful to Kenny Dalglish, we
would love to see him remaining with us by occupying another position to the
club, but LFC NEEDS A WORLD CLASS MANAGER, PERIOD!!!  All those who firmly support Kenny Dalglish it’s
time for them to realize that LFC is no longer a local brand, it is a global
    brand! That's why the current LFC's owners are not British but Americans;
that's why LFC is attracting fans from all over the world that passionately
live and breathe to see this historic club return back to its glory days!

  5. I agree with Roy Evans "it's embarrassing" In terms of the league it is obvious that we haven't improved points, goals etc wise but performance wise we look at better team. I agree we have been lucky not to win most of the games we've drawn or lost at home but if this continues in to next year is it really good enough to say were playing well but we are just unlucky.... answer is god damn no!
It's a results based business and you get nothing for playing well whilst picking up so few points as we have found out so often this season. Major changes need to happen throughout the summer or we will be no nearer to the top four than we are this season.
Maybe that's a change of manager I don't know, I love KK but the one thing I really do think he lacks is how to win premiership games. Signing wise even tho most of them are letting him down at the moment I was happy that we bought them for reasons I've said before even tho I didn't agree with the price tags of Carroll, Downing and Henderson.

If KK does stay then he really needs to get the form in the premiership sorted because as much as winning cups is brilliant even if it is the carling cup the league form and position is like Evans said "embarrassing". He also needs to make sure the signing he makes and the ones he has already made live up to the expectations of playing for Liverpool FC because a lot them look like they can't hack the pressure.

  9. scoring goals is one thing but the worrying thing also has to be that teams like blackburn and qpr are scoring against us, yes we need a out and out goalscorer but i think this team needs revamped for top to bottom ,reinas standards have dropped badly and the midfield are average at best, suarez and carroll are not to blame but the lack of two creative midfield players is,,we badly need a modric mata silva xavi ozil kaka thats where the real problem is ,,get that wee fella from napoli lazzette or someone similiar to unlock defences and see a pass that neither adam henderson or downing possess ,,

  21. We should fire the shooting coach, if there is one. 26-28 attempts and zero goals. Chief culprit? Kuyt. As we have witnessed this season, he cannot score from pointblank range, from 10 feet, out wide or even when he is without a defender on him. the only way he scores is when there is a major crowd and he makes a mistake. This necessarily means he is overthinking, which we know is not instinctive. Downing and Henderson were totally useless yesterday, and Glenn Johnson did a Jamie Carragher and gave away a goal. Let's pray this does not become a habit (like Jamie Carragher).

  30. If Dalglish/Comolli/FSG got anything wrong this season, it's not accepting in December that the strikeforce isn't good enough and therefore, not investing in a striker in January.
Now, it may be that they did accept this behind closed doors and that there simply wasn't any budget left. Maybe there just was not a striker available that was worth taking a risk on - once bitten, as they say.
For me, we have been performing a lot better than at any time since Roy Evans left the club, except for the lack of goals, however, aside from when Torres was at the club, we haven't had a striker who lived up to their price tag since Ian Rush.
As for the conceding of goals. The vast majority of what we conceded this season have been down to mistakes from Reina, Carragher and Johnson. Fair enough our other defenders have had the odd gaffe, but they have either been one-offs or inexperience.
For me, if Dalglish swings the axe in the right places and gets in some better/more reliable players to replace them, then I'm for giving him another season. If he buries his head in the sand and ignores the obvious - we can't score in a brothel and the liabilities in the back five - them we need rid of him, but fair's fair, he can't act until the window opens can he?
And anyway, who would you replace him with, bearing in mind that Chelsea (and then whoever they poach their next manager from) and Spurs are going to be ahead of us in the queue for the top managers? While we're at the 'next manager' game, the most common question when people start bandying names about is, "What has he ever won?". If we win the FA Cup next week, and I fancy our chances, Kenny Dalglish will have a better managerial record JUST ON THIS SEASON ALONE than the 'highly rated' Harry Redknapp has in his entire life.

  31. fantastic?? really?? scoring a couple of goals as well as missing a heap of golden opportunities isn't exactly fantastic, scoring 2,3 goals in a match or scoring in consecutive matches could warrant being labelled "fantastic". I'm a reds fan and will be till the day i die, but i will only give credit when, or if its due and Andy hasn't played consistently well to deserve to be merited on current performances

  33. I like Kenny as a Liverpool legend and respect what he has done for the club in the past. I don't think he is the man to take us forward, but it's really sad how his once untouchable aura is now going. A couple of years ago before his return, no one would have blackened his name. Now it seems e is slowly being dragged through the mud. It's not the fans fault, we are used to winning. I just think it would be better for his own sake to step aside at the end of the season. I's not his fault our strikers have forgotten how to finish. The amount of times we have hit the woodwork, had the majority gone in, as someone else previously stated, we would easily be top 4.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Totally agree with Roy. We are desperate for a striker who is already on top of his game and not one who is going to take a season or two to 'settle in'. Yes, we had plenty of chances on Saturday but chances don't win matches. The sooner this humiliating season is over, the better !

    ReplyDelete
  35. You seriously think we are going to sign 2 good finishers we've needed to sign decent wingers and a striker for the last 4 years we end up spending 100+million in one summer yet we still need better strikers. Our current strike force is worth 60 million but we still need a another striker..... see the pattern

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't think the squad needs huge changes with the right buys we can challenge for top 4 just look at newcastle they got promoted bought the right players and are now odds on to finish 4th.. buy 2-3 new players bring in sterling and the rest of the young lads for a break through and we have a real chance

  37. to be fair, what more could KD have done?? That game opitimised our season. For 89 minutes we absolutely battered west brom on every level, however 1 mistake led to a goal for them. people blame KD, he set up his tactics to overun westbrom and liverpool did, but KD does not control people with a joystick, he must be astonished like the rest of us that chances are not being put away.
Liverpool have lacked quality finishing all season, it is the reason why we have been beat and drawn so many. look at arsenal, they would be mid table without RVP, a person who is deadly and only needs 1 or 2 chances per goal and it is ultimately what liverpool lack.
people have said it maybe down to drills and training but i am sorry; players like surez, bellamy, kuyt, and carroll are professional footballers and are paid to score goals. what we witnessed was not crap football it was crap finishing and it is not KD's fault that someone who is paid thousands a week cannot hit a ball on target from less than 12 yards.
What tactics can KD employ for 12 yards out??? the only tactic you can employ is shoot on target and score!! his tactics created loads of chances but it is ultimmately up to the player in that circumstance to finish it.

I can guarantee that if liverpool get someone that can finish with composure and does not need 20 chances per goal, then we will batter teams. liverpool are missing a fowler or shearer someone that only needs 1 or 2 chances to score.

People will ultimately blame KD but to be fair any person could have been on the bench as manager and it would have been the same result as a manager has no influence when someone is less than 12 yards out. his tactics are there to ensure that the chance is created, ultimately it falls to the person on the end of the chance to ensure it is slotted away.

  39. It seems to me that carrol gets a lot of flack, but the main culprit for missing chance after chance is suarez. His build up play and tricks are all well and good but for a striker its the end product that counts eg goals.
I seem to remember a real madrid manager talking about an X liverpool striker saying all he does in a game is score goals. In my humble opinion that is what you pay a striker to do and thats what we need a preditor

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wanted to reply but all that was needed to be said was posted in J-ROY's comment. How can you be that delusional? It's barely believable one can have such short memory just because they want to find excuses for somebody.

    ReplyDelete
  41. "To be fair, what more could KD have done?" Oh, I don't know. How about not splashed £80 million on four of the worst players I've ever seen in a Liverpool shirt and continue to play them week in week out, while phasing out anyone without a British passport.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anyone who can't see that things are terribly wrong at the moment, and that the current set up is responsible for it, is not really worth having the debate with anymore. Level on points with Fulham, behind Everton, Sunderland breathing down our neck, ridiculously low number of home wins, but what more can KD do? Worse still, he doesn't look as if he knows how to fix this.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Suarez is a striker cum midfielder and yet he has scored more goals than the out and out striker namely Andy Carroll. It's not Suarez's fault, it's Dalglish you want to blame for loading the team with dud players.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Newcastle got rid of Barton, Nolan, Carroll, Enrique and others, and in doing so abandoned their direct approach for a passing based game with a team of largely foreign players who were as cheap as chips but high in quality.

Comparing Liverpool and Newcastle is not even close. Newcastle have real talent. Liverpool have a bunch of average premier League 'proven' players who are masquerading as galacticos due to their price tags.
Make no mistake about it, Liverpool need big changes this Summer. That means bye bye CHAD, bye bye Kenny and hello to a new manager. That is the only way Liverpool will progress in the long term.

As sad as it may be, one possibly two cups does nothing to heal the financial wound of finishing at best 7th in the league after spending £120 million on players.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Exactly, our midfield could've been the strongest part of our team with Aquilani, Meireles, Lucas and Gerrard but we scrapped that plan and ripped it to shreds to replace it with poorer players.

    ReplyDelete
  46. He works hard so he'll get the odd goal but he's still a very average player and if he's going to be the Liverpool future, I'm sure a lot of fans won't be looking forward to it at all.

  50. Dalglish is of his meds. Week in and week out, Dalglish gives the fans a team that is far from ready to play. I truly feel now Dalglish has ruined a club that was once so feared and turned it into a ground were clubs like WBA and QPR can come and get three points. If it were up to me, he would have been long gone around january so that we could have at least finished nearer to the top 4. But no, now we may finish our season in either 10th or 13th at the worst. All thanks to the old man who clearly doesn't know modern football if it hit him upside the head. I'm not a religious man but I'm praying for Dalglish to be fired at the end of the season. YNWA!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. They're not crap, far from it. Liverpool destroyed most teams this year with lovely passing and chance after chance being created which is what all football fans want. Obviously we're missing a small piece of the jigsaw up front that Kenny will take care of. Suarez plus Luis came out of that 113 million..

  53. there was bargains out there in january.
i thought we should have gone for jelavic,a steal at 5 million.i know we were linked him before and we should have gone back for him.8 goals already since january.
cisee at newcastle is another that shows we didn't need to break the bank to sign quality.15 million for both,we could have sold carrols left leg and ponytail to afford them.

  54. i'm just sad, sad, sad...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Liverpool play great football that Benitez didn't so I enjoy watching Liverpool but Kenny needs to buy better players, he wasted money sure, but what manager hasn't. Look to the future it's bright and red.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Newcastle team isn't better than Liverpool team. There's just too much pressure on Liverpool players that Newcastle don't have and don't forget Carroll was their best player and Liverpool's worst, that says it all.

    ReplyDelete
  57. carroll was bought to score goals-he doesn't.
his record in the league is a disaster.

    ReplyDelete
  58. now that commoli is gone i suppose kennys apologists will start turning on the players

    ReplyDelete
  59. Of course I've been annoyed with losing but I know that style of creating chance after chance with great movement plus better players could bring back the league to Liverpool. Kenny's only downfall has been the players he brought in.. Just look how good Liverpool were at the end of last season playing that way.

    ReplyDelete
  60. how was he their best player?
he relied on service from barton and others.
he was a good player for them but they saw the money and knew they'd never get such an over the top amount for him ever again.
to say newcastle don't have pressure is silly, their fans are ridiculously fickle and will expect them to win the champs league if they qualify.
newcastle have better players than us-cabaye,tiote,ben arfa,ba and cisse.that' s why they are better off than us.

    ReplyDelete
  61.  the squad needs an overhaul.
kuyt,spearing,downing,carroll,johnson,henderson-all of them aren't good enough.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Umm, what? If Newcastle aren't better than Liverpool then why are they 16 points ahead of Liverpool and looking at possible Champions League football?  If Liverpool's failings really are because of pressure then those lads are in the wrong career.

Carroll wasn't their best player at the time, Nolan was, but they got the best out of him, Liverpool haven't and they then replaced him with two other strikers who have been far more prolific.

    ReplyDelete
  63. You shouldnt be on this site fella, you talk too much sense.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Of course you have to blame the players. They are the ones out on the pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Besides Henderson and Downing, Johnson has also been poor. Just calculate the number of points lost due to mistakes made by Johnson in the past. Mourinho was smart as he got rid of the guy in his first season. The guy is a walking time bomb who has serious defensive lapse in every game. Kenny should consider bringing in Kelly and selling Johnson in the summer to one of our rivals for fourth position like Spurs or Newcastle. Then fourth position is assured next season.

    ReplyDelete
  66. i know,i was being sarcastic.
but kenny can't be free from blame,it's his team and tactics.and carroll/suarez/henderson and downing are all his underperforming signings.

  67. will you shut up its embarrassing reading ur comments  ,

    ReplyDelete
  68. You're the one who is wrong. Next season, mark the words.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Absolutely. The team is deliberately losing this season, so that when we win the league in the years ahead, people will realise the dramatic nature of our successful turnaround.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Fair enough. Although his tactics are creating chances.

    ReplyDelete
  71. lol,its been a weird season, well hopefully we can go win the f.a cup.think were the most frustrated fans in the country,we still need a lot of work doing to our squad,FINISHER 1 CHANCE 1 GOAL,miss them days with the likes of owen fowler,an even torres, cam also, plus rm,lol ya alot of work needs doing to the squad.ynwa

    ReplyDelete
  72. Bosh. You sway like the wind don't ya. Absolute nonsense. This lot will are a creative midfielder and a striker short of a league title. Just you watch. Suso and Sterling comin through the ranks. Scorchio. Chin up lads.

  75. I said brining in 2-3 quality players exactly like newcastle did there was no place where i mentioned any of our players would stay combined with the highly rated young stars there is no reason why we can do what they did with or without kenny at the helm personally without

    ReplyDelete
  76. ITS CRAAAZY TO SUGGEST THAT ITS KENNYS FAULT THAT WE AREN'T SCORING ENOUGH EVEN THOUGH WE JUST SPENT 60 MILLION ON 2 STRIKERS WHO CANT GET 15 LEAGUE GOALS BETWEEN THEM LETS GIVE HIM ANOTHER 100 MILLION AND HOPE FOR THE BEST

    ReplyDelete
  77. 'play poor and still win' the sign of champions they say looks like west brom and every other team that have come away from anfield with 3 points is going to win the league. I remember the days when we were teams were scared to come to our ground.

  78. Let's go through every position and see who'd get a starting place. Tell me if you make your team differently?

            Tim Krul
    Johnson Agger Skirtel  Enrique

    Ben Arfa  Lucas Gerrard Gutierrez/Maxi?

      Suarez     Ba/ Cisse

    kelly skrtel agger enrique

          gerrard tiote

      ben-arfa cabaye suarez

i'd base that selection on current form,i'd start kelly over johnson any day of the week.

  81. No Lucas!! He's our best midfielder. I wouldn't swap Lucas for any holding midfielder in England. In your team there's still more Liverpool players than Newcastle players anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  82.  If you include all competitions then it is 30 so far. Its already 2 more than the previous record. (ManUre 06/07)

However: when ManUre hit the wood 28 times they still did a lot better than 8th!!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I think we will need 2 strikers tbh, one as a poacher and another to replace Suarez when he does the off in the summer.......

    ReplyDelete
  84. I swear, only with Dalglish in as manager will people even tolerate this justification.  Any other manager with Dalglish's record and cluelessness as to how to turn things around, and the fans would be crying out for him to be sacked.

    ReplyDelete
  85. And what is he wanted to bring in more of the same overpriced non-World Class talent British players like Carrol, Downing and Henderson?  Liverpool were also very good last season when he respected Meireles for his form (not sell him to start Henderson and Adam), and Maxi for his phenomenal return in assits and goals as a winger.  Why does he stand by this managerial decision when it has made the the team worse?  Is this a good omen to the future of LFC?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Poor finishing. Nothing to do with luck, there is enough room (in think around 17sq m) to hit the target and it is down to poor coaching. Have a look at how Reina's performance has dipped.  Isn't it telling that the goalkeeping coach has been sacked? Comolli, the goal keeping coach, chief of medicine are not responsible. I wonder if Kenny and his assistant are coaching them.....If they are not, someone is at fault.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Aren't you forgetting his amazing winner against MUFC in the Cup?

*clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* Dalglish. If we do it
enough we're bound to be rewarded for our blind loyalty with a top four place next season. After all after
everything KK's done for the club, we may as well stick to him with as much
irrationally as we possibly can.  I'm telling you man, this works.

    Ahhh look a fairy!

    ReplyDelete
  89. If the players start leaving in the summer due to a lack of faith in the future of the club under the Dalglish, I for one will start to blame the groundsmen.  Blasted groundsmen always think they're too good for anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  90. yep, totally agree with your sarcasm. Give Kenny another 100 million. If you ask some of our fans, is not his fault. 17 sq meters of space but we hit the posts....what a bad joke. Every record has been broken (not the right ones either). Time to spend 60 million on Carlton Cole, Grant Holt and watch the goals fly in.
is not bad finishing, is bad coaching. When are some of our fans going to open their eyes. I am losing it

    ReplyDelete
  91. To be honest if he planned on doing the same thing with buying more Downing's etc I would want him gone! But he's no dummy I believe he's learnt. I agree, he sold the better players and replaced them with average ones, that's why I know with better players and Kenny's style of play can work brilliantly. I think Liverpool owe Kenny one more year to find out.

    ReplyDelete

  93. Well said, no passion. We need more English players who show guts on the field and make us proud. Lets add some more English players to the ones we already have. it is the rest of the team that is to blame.

some of you aint got a clue, we are progressing you cant expect all them signings to hit it off in 40 odd games lets see how we are after 100-150 games before passing judgement look at united chelsea even city to an extent have played for 3 years or more with the same spine tp the team.WITH LUCAS back and  we need a proper winger and a striker who poaches goals for fun to play off suarez bad next year we wont do to  bad but all in all some of the footy weve played has been superb at times. if we can turn these chances into goals more often we would be at least 15 points better off thhis year. all you man wanting kk out are probably the same who moaned coz rafa was so negative and boring but want him back now....... PATRICK THE RED fair play to u mate chatting sense ,
if we had ben arfa and cisse we would be lethal we need a propa goalscorer(CISSE) and a unpredictable winger (bEN ARFA)who makes things appen WE HAVENT HAD THAT TYPE OF PLAYER FOR YEARS

    ReplyDelete
  98. maybe yakuba.... cheap and prolific scorer.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Muppet. We have not won a thing in six years before kenny returned. Some of you people are total idiots, lacking in any kind of knowledge or intelligence. If kenny wins the fa cup he will have the same number of trophies in his first season as benetiz did in his entire reign.

    ReplyDelete
  100. You are the only sensible person on this forum. Absolute mindless idiots, possibly two trophies in his first season. That's equals what rafa did in 6 and fergie did in his first 5. Some people need to get a grip of reality here!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Newcastle fans are ridiculously fickle? Look in the mirror Titi, you guys are pathetic

    ReplyDelete
  102. At last, someone who speaks sense rather that the idiots throwing their toys out of the pram because we haven't achieved success immediately. How much money have man u, chelsea and city spent over the last few seasons and people think that thirty odd million net spend can win the premiership after we've sold all but a couple of world class players?
Then these same nutters go on about how it's KD's fault.
Get a grip kids and show some faith in a Liverpool hero who has experience and know's more about the game that all of you put together.

    ReplyDelete
  103. i think on this seasons form tiote is a better player than lucas.there's an over emphasis on the role of defensive midfielder.if lucas added goals to his game he'd be a better player.i rate him but i think his stock has gone up since he's been injured, alot of fans seem to think our season would be miraculously better if he hadn't been injured.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Tiote-Cabaye

The best central midfield pairing in PL this season (the main reason for me), for me anyway. Lucas has been out injured for ages and Gerrard is not the Gerrard of past. So on that basis, I would go with Tiote-Cabaye in the middle.

I guess I am going with form over this season. Maybe you are too in some positions and strangely, not in others, such as Krul over Reina (on form, right choice....in my view) whilst picking Stevie and Lucas who have hardly done anything this season in terms of consistent form.

    Krul

    Kelly/Johnson
    Coloccini
    Agger
    Enrique

    Cabaye
    Tiote

    Ben Arfa
    Suarez
    Demba Ba

    Cisse

    ReplyDelete
  105. whatever my friend.
wait til yee turn on pardew and sell cabaye and ba in the summer.

  107. think Rafa's CL aces Kennys Carling tho

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  111. I agree mate, its funny the king kenny love brigade use the words mindless and idiots. POT KETTLE BLACK I SAY. Even roy evans has come out and said its an embarrassment at the moment. But some people have no standards or ambition in life and if we lose against chelsea in the cup theses so called fools will go into hiding as usual. No one gives too hoots about the cups theses days, its all about the prem and champs league.....men from the boyz!! No wonder we have not won the league for over 22 years.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Don't quite follow your thinking in that " we are progressing" when we are a disgusting 37 points behind the leaders and have just completed the worse set of  results in over 50 years

    ReplyDelete
  113. king red with a CLUE9:30 pm, April 23, 2012

yeah i do still want another winger though. and 80 million were did that come from carroll was 35 suarez was 22 which means we basically got both for 7 mill as torres went for 50, in my view aint bad buisness, carroll will do a job so keep him as he is a diffrent option but we need a cisse type striker and a pacy winger aswell so hope all our budjet goes on these areas

    ReplyDelete
  114. Based on that logic, is any manager responsible for anything or does it always come down to the players? Now you see where your argument falls down?

You can say Roy Hodgson did nothing wrong at all, his style was brilliant , the team messed it up....

    ReplyDelete
  115. One of the biggest problems this year has been our midfield. Henderson is not a right winger and is one of the main reason he hasn't performed well this season.
Gerrard was missing at the start of the season and was recovering from a bad injury which is why he hasn't looked the player we all know he is.
Adam for me started the season well with a few goals and couple of assist. I don't see why people hate him so much but I agree before his injury he wasn't playing that well but for me that was down to playing alongside an unfit Gerrard. Adam is not full of energy and that is one thing he really needs to improve on, therefore resulting in a very slow and not so hard working centre midfield partnership.
Spearing as much as he has improved and I love the effort and commitment he puts in when playing, he is just not Liverpool FC standard, I won't say anymore because it would be harsh.
Downing is a good player and in a good midfield I think he would do well and with more players busting a gut to get in the box I think he would have got he assist he usually gets.
It wouldn't be fair to comment on Kuyt as he hasn't played that often and hasn't had a decent run in the team but I agree it's time to let him go as he isn't the answer to the right wing problem.
Maxi as we all know should have started on the right wing every game. He scores goals, he creates chances and has a brilliant footballing brain. KK why??? but I'd let him go in the summer as he isn't the answer to the right wing problem either. He has played in centre midfield all of his career until he came to Liverpool but that's what we do, we play players out of position ha.
Lucas has been a big miss that is fact. I was one of his biggest haters and I for one am very happy he proved me wrong because every team needs a player like him.
All the above for me is one of the main reason that we haven't picked up so many points.
Obviously it's not the only reason but it really hasn't helped.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Do you think FSG should sell Kenny's investments after 1 season at a huge loss like some of these peanuts suggest? How much will Kenny cost the club to replace with this world class savour the peanuts are crying for?
I don't think the peanuts would last to long at Standard Chartered either

    ReplyDelete
  117. Either that or Otkane has not got the first idea about football. Andy Carrol is crap and anyone who says he is good is easily pleased. I have been going to the match since 1960 and have never seen a worse player in his position in all those years. give him another season and we are doomed. !!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Why would you think he would change when he has defended his buys to the end, and played them ahead better performers in the squad for the entire season?  I think you're making a very big, hopeful, rose-tinted assumption.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Agreed. Got to give critisism when it is due &  right now it certainly is.

  120. The teams position in the league shows exactly how bad they are & I keep hearing excuse after excuse for mediocre performances. Results are what matter & something is not right..i.e. players/manager.

    ReplyDelete
  121. True enough. Kuyt is just one of our rubbish players. There are stacks more.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Have you ever actually seen any good players? Do you know what fantastic means? Are you satisfied with absolutely anything at all? Have you ever played football? By the way, AC is a pathetic bloody joke. The joke was on us and will be until he's kicked back to geordie land.

  124. Very average is being very generous. He's slow moving and slow thinking and I wouldn't back him to score from virtually any position, even with the goalie out of his area.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Do you realise what you said? 'Everything was perfect except putting the ball in the net'. In football that is the ONLY thing that matters. Fix it with money? Sure, spend 35,000,000 on a top striker. For God's sake open your eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  126. A team that wins five home games all season is crap. Ditto a manager who wastes millions on the likes of Henderson and Carroll.

  128. lets all face it kd is not the man for the job he did not buy good, spent alot of money, got rid of better players as well...aqillani played really well during the preparation games, raul mirales played well at the end of last season but he kd did not want to keep him..good coaches dont let go of their good players rednap did to mondric...look at new castle they did not spend even a half of what we spent...they can play cl...cause they went for talent not for nationality...i cant understand and will not understand why kd does not play maxi...the guy scores...creates what more do you want from him kd? dont blame luck but the manager but since he is king kenny we all should shut up and let the king do his job....we sacked rafa a man who made us a force...a team that can beat anyone any day regardless of lady luck...at the time we had no expensive player but we had expensive talent...we never missed a cl night and anyone facing liverpool was in deep fear....anfield was a football grave yard...many died the likes of madrid and many were defeated barca on their own ground...we need change,we need a tactical manager who goes out there to sign talent not nationality...kenny out...then will start dreaming of big things again but with him we are a dead team...

    ReplyDelete
  129. Yes, the huge quantity of goals and defence splitting passes from Lucas will make a vast difference. Ditto his heading and dribbling skills. Oh wait a minute...he can't do any of those things, can he?
The team is actually much worse than people think. Even Suarez is a pretty ordinary player - he just looks good because the others are so absolutely terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  130. A holding midfielder is the fashionable term for a midfielder who can't actually do anything.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Predictions for next season: Liverpool will be very like this season, except maybe a tenth or eleventh finish and no league cup. The fans will still be split between those that can see no wrong whatever Liverpool do and however badly they play, and those that have seen much better things and know the present crop are utter crap. United and City will do battle for the league with Liverpool thirty points adrift. Suarez - if he stays - will be top scorer with about ten. Carroll won't reach double figures. More howlers from Reina and appalling play all round from Johnson. After thirty minutes one will realise Henderson is on the pitch ( and wish he wasn't ).
    All very predictable.

  133. Why are you even hear if you support United?  Fyi Liverpool are the true Reds  not Red and Black like you's.

    ReplyDelete
  134. No Skirtel in your team? Liverpool's player of the season, that's a strange choice.

I was just picking purely who is the better players. Newcastle players are doing ok now, next year most likely will not be the same because now people expect it from them.. I personally wouldn't swap Lucas for Cabaye and Tiote put together  because I think he's our most important player and wins the ball for fun then sets up our attacks.. If the Newcastle manager had all them players to pick from he'd definitely have Gerrard in there.

    ReplyDelete
  135. You're joking right? Lucas wins the ball in midfielder at least 15 to 20 times every match and sets up our attack to say that's unimportant  is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, the player ahead of him are the one who should be scoring. Mascherano was a world class midfielder and Lucas is even better, Newcastle midfield players have nothing on him.

    ReplyDelete
  136. You know absolutely  nothing about players and their team worth do you. Lucas is a monster.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Kuyt is a great player but he was a bit selfish in yesterday's match (vs West Brom). Instead of shooting on goal from a tight angle early in the game, Kuyt should have been made a simple pass to Suarez, who was free in the middle, for an easy tap-in. That would have started the momentum and led to more goals.

I just love Welbeck (I'm not an Man U fan and I will never be). But the kid is as selfless as any supporting striker should be. Did u see his clever pass for Rooney's second goal (v Everton)? That pass was made from the same position and area of the pitch in which Kuyt was!

A bit like Dunga, Deschamps or Makelele? All lucky to be professional footballers, as non of them had a 'trick' in their locker.

Prior to his injury, Lucas was lynchpin of the team. His performance against Man City was immense. He hit Yaya Toure a couple of times and he STAYED hit.

  140. Embarrassing is an under statement it's pathetic , and getting told its down to bad luck and you can't fault the players , there's nothing drastically wrong , they prepared well is quite frankly insulting , we are 37 points behind Man Utd won 5 league games at home , it's not very reassuring to hear we are " gonna keep doing what were doing " see where it takes us

    ReplyDelete
  141. Agree , and the plan is to keep doing what were doing , horrible to think we might have to go thru it all again next year , fingers crossed for City , cos apart from the 37 points , God knows how many that will be after 38 games , without City we could be 2 title's behind them and that hurts , they used to win the odd cup every now and again and we laughed at them The league is your bread an butter is what SHANKS said , other trophy's are great , but not competing week in week out is not acceptable at all , progressing ?

  142. PUKI MAK LU. ROY IS RIGHT !

    ReplyDelete
  143. I think simply saying 'I am basing it on form this season' answers that and on form, I am, at least, not far off with that side.

Tiote has been as good as Lucas since arriving but like I said, its about form this season, Lucas has none. Skrtel has been really good, especially when Agger is fit but its not as if Coloccini isn't fit to be in the same sentence as him, as his form has been also really good. But I got nothing against Skrtel being in there (in a form side), tbh and has the same valid claim to be in there as the Argentine. Forget Stevie's reputation as I am picking on form and this season, the likes of Cabaye all day long.

So I suppose we have picked these sides on different reasons, so we are bound to fundamentally disagree as its two different criteria being used by each other. So its a bit toothless for either of us to be too damning over the comparison between our sides.

Just a question, as you aren't doing it on this season's form, you think Krul is generally the better goalkeeper?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Net spend doesn't come into what I was talking about. I was talking about what the three players cost.

I said Downing, Suarez and Carroll in the same sentence and they roughly cost around £80m. That is where the £80m came from. Sorry, I didn't sugar coat it by being rose-tinted and justifying it by net spend. So its all good spending loads of money on dud players, as long as we sell enough to cover most of them(!) 'aint bad business'(!)

Its not just about keeping 'net spend' low, its also about making sure the 'expenditure is good too.

    ReplyDelete

You need to step up and start scoring some goals for Liverpool instead. You may have better luck than the boys. LOL. By the way, are we gonna be hitting the world records book for being the team that struck the bar the most in one season? I am curious.

  148. KENNY STILL GOES ON ABOUT THE SIDE IS GOOD ENOUGH,BUT IF HE SAYS HE PERSONALLY WANTED DOWNING,HENDERSON,CARROL AND CHARLIE,THE LEAST HE CAN DO IS APOLOGISE TO THE FANS,THAT HE BOUGHT "DUDS"AND BUY SOME QUALITY,OR WE WILL BE THE SAME NEXT YEAR.

  149. Lucas was Liverpool's best player last year and half of this year he was brilliant, he walked all over City's "world class" midfielders and Chelsea too until he was injured so he did have form this season, enough for me to know he's miles better than Tiote imo. I do, I think Krul and Hart are the two best in England.

  150. Lucas has started 12 league games this season, that is hardly a substantial period of form. Its like Aquilani being labelled as the next messiah, based on 9 PL starts for us.

  152. It is 'here' not 'hear' and the word 'you's' does not exist. I have been a Liverpool supporter since I saw my first game in November 1966. I would not support Man utd if they were playing a team of Talibans. Let me know if I can put you right on anything else.

  153. I didn't ask for a grammar  lesson. I said " Look to the future is bright and red" your reply was "yes Man United's colours" No Liverpool fan would ever say that, so on your bike.

  155. One of the many reasons we do so badly is that our supporters tolerate rubbish. You can see that on this site. A team has won five home games all season ( five! ) but so many supporters - living in their delusional fantasy land  - bend over backwards to find excuses for KD, for the players, for Henderson ( don't count him as  a player ). I suppose there is a huge difference between people like me - who have seen brilliant players like Keegan, Barnes, Hunt, St John, Hughes, Smith etc etc etc - and the younger set who have seen the likes of N'gog in action. The younger brigade simple have no idea what they are talking about in many cases. Anfield would be a much better place in the long run if dreadful players such as Carroll got the bird good and loud. Then KD would have to stop putting them in the team. But the sad fact is that if the club stay in mid-table the fans are happy. They accept mediocrity and so that is what they get. Then they tell you you're not a real supporter because you don't cheer your head off for people like Lucas Leiva, whose only claim to fame is that he has been injured all season and missed out on the worst nine months since the side were relagated in the fifties. What a bunch of jokers!

  156. Decent footy ? When ? Pass and move , get shut and watch is more like it and hope Stevie or Luis can finish , our tactics seem to be cross your fingers and hope for the best , bastion of invincibility , fortress anfield seem a long time ago 2 home games left looking forward to them like toothache and there's no indication next season will be any different , cos the manager seems to think its just down to bad luck and we can't ask any more of the players as wacko jacko once said " makes you wanna scream " gonna need Lorra Lorra luck to gain another 40 plus points , if all the efforts which hit the wood work had of been one inch the other way they would've been efforts that missed the target just as easy as goals , so let's face the facts , not just accept it week in week out and say we couldn't ask any more of the players if that's the best you can do then " do one " it's not good enough
