LFC fans tell Kenny: Sign this £30m striker to partner Luis Suarez...

Last week, Anfield legend Mark Lawrenson urged Liverpool to sign Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov at the end of the season, arguing that the the intelligent striker would be the 'perfect foil' for Luis Suarez. Despite the intense rivalry between the two clubs, it seems that Liverpool fans agree with Lawro, and would like to see the Bulgarian at Anfield next season.

Speaking to the Liverpool Daily Post, Lawro said:

"Suarez is the best ‘wriggler’ in the Premier League, the best at working himself space inside the area. It’s crying out for someone else to be sniffing around alongside Suarez in the box. Even someone like Dimitar Berbatov would be the perfect foil for the Uruguayan".

I conducted a survey on the site asking for Fans' views on the issue; almost 5000 fans voted, and the 60% agreed that Berbatov would be a good signing for the club.

Since Lawro's comments, both Alex Ferguson and Berbatov's Agent have publicly stated that he'll leave old Trafford at the end of the season, so if Liverpool were interested, the opportunity will almost definitely be there to sign the player.

Berbatov - who cost Man United £30m in 2008 - has the skill, technique and game intelligence to really make a difference to Kenny Dalglish's team, and despite only being a bit-part player for United this season, he's still managed to score more goals than Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson combined.

The stumbling block is always going to be the Man United affiliation, and after the Suarez-Evra acrimony, Alex Ferguson will probably be even more determined to block any Man United player from ever moving to Liverpool.

I would definitely take Berbatov on a free at the end of the season, or even for a small fee. He may be 31 years old, but age hasn't stopped the likes of Craig Bellamy, Paul Scholes, Robbie Keane and Thierry Henry having a major impact for their respective clubs.

  1. Only see him leaving for a CL club and most likely abroad. Unrealistic but would love to see him at Anfield

will you please stop these ridiclious pointless posts

  3. United have used the option to extend his contract, so will be 2 years left. Why makes you think he will go on a free you muppet. Also Fergie would not sell him to Liverpool even I hell freezes over...keep dreaming, stick with Carroll hahahaha

  4. Ferguson wouldn't sell us the shit of his shoe, even though with our recent transfer activity we'd probably put in a bid.

  5. Suarezs best position is cutting in from the left or the right and creating or shooting.Suarez is not an out and out striker. We need an out and out striker with pace, certainly not Carroll, certainly not an ageing Berbatov who wont fit John Henrys profile. We need to offload all Kennys signings bar Suarez+ Bellamy get as much of the £100m Kenny splashed on Carroll,Henderson,Downing,Adam,Enrique,Coates as we can and start again with Rafa in the hotseat,Kenny has tried and failed, give Rafa say £80m we get for Kennys flops and let John Henry add another £20m so Rafa will have £100m to spend on real players not UK garbage.

  6. what the hell, is the point of this article??? we all know, well... the intelligent ones of us do!! that there absoloubtly zero chance of berba, comin to liverpool!! while you at it jamie, why dont you write a post, about rooney and messi coming too!!

  7. Will be one year left, not two. His initial contract runs out this summer and United have an option to extend that contract by ONE year. But yes, still won't be free.

  8.  Jamie, do us a favor and get a new hobby...preferably one that others agree you are good at because most if not all of us are tired of your unintelligent articles.

My apologies for being harsh but seriously, you need to get the picture.

  10. getting Berba is sadly only a dream. United will not sell to us. it just wont happen. Plus I cant see Berba wanting to join Liverpool, where he knows he will probably be misused again. He will more likely return to the Bundesliga and get back to his former heights. Also, I cant see nando making a return to us. Sky have been suggesting that he is on his way to Roma. I think nando would be the best fit for us, but I also think kenny has no love for him after the way he left in Jan 2011. Imagine if we had used all the nando money and put in another 10 mill to get a player of neymar's quality. Can you imagine the amount of time we would be camping in the opposition final third with suarez and neymar working together. I would have much rather see us say something along the lines, that "yes 60 mill is a lot for a player, but the way we look at it is that we used the nando money plus 10 mill extra." This is a bit too fantastical i know.

  12. Neymar is on big wages in Brazil. Even if we could have rustled up together the fee for him, his wages are high. There is a lot of money in Brazil (santos are loaded) at the moment, so young Brazilians are not so quick to leave as before.

  13. you lot begged for KKK (krappy king kenny)to take over your sinking shit(oops i mean, sinking ship) so stop whinging about his brilliant signings and live with his cock up's, berba would rather play for yeovil town than sign for the has beens at anfield...

  14. Lot of money in Brazil, hahahaha! it just makes me laugh not because you are wrong hahahaha! Its like you are joking,a clown by nature.WE want Berba anyway,he wont hit the post but back of the net, most assuredly I say to you!

  16. I think Berbo will come here just to spite Fergie. That is the below the belt blow that Kenny needs to give Fergie if Liverpool is to challenge for the title next season. For year's now Fergie has been hitting Liverpool by snatching players whom Liverpool wanted to buy. Fergie waits and watches all the players that Liverpool are trying to get and goes out and signs them at the last moment to beat Liverpool. There are just too many players to mention over the last twenty five years. Fergie idea has been to deal Pyschological blow to his rival and always have the better players in their team while Liverpool had the second hoice player. When they did not have the money, he would try to unsettle Liverpool by getting the press to say that Manure are interested in so and so Liverpool players in Jan or end of season. This would be done whenever Liverpool has key game against the top four teams. The latest stunt was getting the midget Judas to play for them thinking that would rile the team and the fans. But it all back fired as midget is known to be injured from Oct to End of April. Common Kenny and Commoli get Berbo as it would be a good signing for Liverpool and the player will play out of his skin next season to punish Fergie.

  17. 30M for a 32 yrs old player...they must be kidding

  18. Berbatov stated last week that the reason he doesn't get a game for United is because he is too slow. With the speed of Nani & Giggs and Rooney up front Berbatov was slowing the play down, hence why Ferguson prefers Hernandez. Maybe in a 4-3-2-1 formation with Berbatov and Suarez playing behind a Michael Owen type striker would he be successfully deployed in the current Liverpool team. Otherwise I'm not sure how he would fit in with the current team and formation.

  19. 30m is how much he cost Man United.

  20. barca are favourites for neymar,he wouldn't go near us.

  21. signing berbatov  would be a bit like doing a rooney and giggs.....paying good money for old while shitting on your own doorstep.

  22. Why any Liverpool fan would want a Manure reject I have no idea. Right now the team is crying out for more pace, he has less than Carroll. Going for him would be a move of desperation and I don't see it ever happening. Lets see how many of you Liverpool fans jump on this bandwagon, next up, why old whisky nose should be our next manager. Sad times indeed.

  23. taggart should be given the opportunity to be our next manager. that way he would be able to finally say he has manged a five time european cup winner and the most successful club in england.

    ReplyDelete
  24. No we don't want him, too old and too slow , what about Rhodes ?????

    ReplyDelete
  25. He could definitely do a job, and it might even appeal to him. But he won't be given the chance. Ferguson took up the extra year on his contract and he might be free for continental sides but no premier league club, particularly not us, will get him. Not unless they offered stupid money that would be better served buying other players.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Let him get splinters in his ass on the Man Utd bench unless he comes to Anfield for 10m.  Theres far more potent & better options out there.

  27. Makes me pee how Liverpoo fans call us manure, mid table outfit livin off the past get a grip. Ince wasn't good enough for us but you bought him? Still talk like ur a force? Understand and accept you haven't been for over 20 years & are falling further behind. 20

No, You welcome rasist scum, cheaters, wifebeaters and alcoholics. Way to to! Not like You may choose. 31 points off United. And when did You win the PL last time, You said? Ohh, You were not born You pink...!

  32. He wouldn't sell us Gabby Heinze so he won't sell this guy.Your own common sense will tell you that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Forget Berbatov. We want Jaimie Kanwar playing alongside Suarez. Hehe. Kidding. Berbatov is the right player with the right technical skills to compliment Suarez. Lawro is absolutely right.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Think this is all irrelevant as Fergie would not even sell us bag of shite Heinze never mind a player he afforded to pay £30.2m and risks losing for nothing!!! Skilful and talented but also lazy and scores most his goals when games already won(guess we would take any kind of scorer after this season though!!!) Benzema for me though at what ever cost. Still remember goal at wembley for France

    ReplyDelete
  35. yeah thats true, wages are a problem.but to get a player of neymar's ilk, we have to fork out exorbitant wages and fees. Otherwise, we are stuck paying top dollar fees and low wages, but get a fairly raw product.

PS, Neymar is Madrid bound for my money.

  38. i think downing and adam should be gotten rid of yes but the others are young and may still develop, agree they shouldnt be first team regulars for this reason though....all except enrique...why would u get rid enrique, he's been the best signing this season by a mile!
