Come back! Liverpool FC fans want Kenny to sign 183-goal striker legend...

Anfield legend Robbie Fowler recently trained with blackpool with a view to a short-term deal till the end of the season. The deal fell through, but Fowler is still available, and Liverpool fans have made it clear that they would love to see the goalscoring legend back at Anfield.

Speaking to The Mirror, Fowler - who scored 183 goals for Liverpool - was honest about his current state of match fitness, but seemed keen to get back on the pitch. He noted:

"I haven’t kicked a ball for five or six weeks, so I’m a bit rusty, but my overall fitness is very good"

A couple of weeks ago, I conducted a poll on this site asking if Dalglish should offer Fowler a short-term deal. Over a thousand fans took part, and the overwhelming majority voted for a Robbie's return.

In a season of romantic comebacks that has already seen the likes of Thierry Henry, Robbie Keane and Paul Scholes return to the English game, it would be great to see Fowler back in action, if only for a few games.

Given the length of time Fowler has been out of the game, a playing contract is probably not realistic, but why not bring him back as a coach for the strikers? With a conversion rate of 9%, they definitely need some guidance!

Just imagine if mid-1990s Robbie Fowler was at Liverpool right now; the club would probably be top of the league at the moment, such is the difference a prolific natural goalscorer makes to the team.

I don't think I've ever seen a more natural goalscorer for Liverpool in my lifetime; Fowler was a genius, and I'm sure he still has some of that goalscoring ability in his locker.

Rafa Benitez enhanced his standing amongst Liverpool fans when he brought Fowler back in 2006, and with King Kenny under severe pressure at the moment, fans would almost certainly react positively if 'God' was brought back to the club in any capacity.

  4. If he has still got it only then he should be brought back and not just for the sake of bringing him back otherwise he would only take the place of some youngster like Eccleston, Sterling, Ngoo, etc.

  5. I would hope Kenny isn't foolish enough to believe that Fowler is a better option then some of the kids that we have in the system.

  6. i think the point here is bringing him in into a coaching role not as a player. not the worst idea and he could probably pass on a little knowledge to the young stars of the future

Kenny signed Barnes and Rush for Newcastle when they were well passed it.  unfortunately a Fowler deal IS possible.

  8. I fully agree with you, Jamie. We should offer him a role to train and improve our strikers decision making and composure in front of goal. I am quite sure that he would also bring some passion back in our overall play we badly lack since Sammy Lee has left us or simply put, replaced by Kevin Keen (don't know why he was brought in to be honest ... we regressed since he's here).

  11. Coaching role, definitely. In fact, I would suggest that our coaching set up wouldn't do badly if we had the likes of Fowler, Barnes, Rush and Hypia working with our players.

  12. MY GOD how low have we fallen. IT'S VERY DEPRESSING. From the ecstasy of Istanbul 2005 than wining the FA Cup 2006 than going to another CHL final2007 all those EUROPEAN NIGHTS. Premier league run in 2009. Will we ever get back to those again. Please bring back RAFA BENITEZ. PLEASE.

  13. I like it . Going back to the old days of keeping it in the LFC family. Worth a try. Why not?

  14. This sounds like a wind-up. I'm not sure but isn't Rush, a better striker than Fowler, already there working with the strikers?

  15. 2 me fowler is not d solution 2 our problem..we need a prolific striker and a replacement 4 lucas cuz our mid-field as collapsed..henderson and adams ar pure crap, carol is a nightmare..God!! Can't kk realise dat..we really need CL football cuz our image is fading away in d presence of our eyes in europe..

  16. Lucas is ok and I'd give Henderson some more time but its time for LFC to move on from Carroll and Adams. They need to look at getting a young player or two (such as Sterling and Kelly) established in the team, bring in a decnt player or two from Spain or France and maybe try to get someone like Tiote or Cabaye from Newcastle - also Ba could be worth a try.

  18. We need a player dat is fast and av high work rate lyk musa dembele, hazard, etc..and they can as well move fast wit d ball not henderson and footless carol dat lacks positioning, agility and pace..I really hate wat dey ar doin 2 we d fans..kk is surely not d right manager 4 lfc..he shud just step down..we ar begging before it get worse..leave an park ur british over rated players along wit u..

  19. Lads lads lads, right I have to speek my mind.
    1. I would love Robbie back but even me who loves the LFC nostalga thinks that maybe it's a bit to late for him to back, Henry, keane and scholes have kept themselves very fit and the first two were playing regulary in the states and the ginger was only out for a few months and was training most days and let's be honest, he's not a bad player. If Robbie was to train with the team and looked able to play 20 mins in a few games and maybe get a few goals (it's terrible to see the goal for colum so bad and a really bad reflection on the front line and midfield )

    2. Rafa was brilliant for Liverpool and if he had of been backed properly by the past owners we would have been champions by now. He made mistakes but he was getting f-/:'ed around by the owners in terms of how much he had ro spend, he fought for Liverpool against the previous yanks and put his whole career on the line, he could have had any of the top jobs in Europe and he stayed loyal to us but most importantly he got us to two champions league finals, two domestic cup finals, two other champions league semi finals and we beat barca, Madrid, utd all in their back yards and every time Rafa showed he tactical smarts, he also got us to 86 points in 2009 we only lost two games and beat all the top four sides in the league, if he had of been alowed spend money and not havr to mix and match we would be champions, the press had a go at Rafa
because they he stuck it to Jose and fergie and they didn't like it, so many people (Liverpool fans included(some)!!) forget how good he was and have fallen for all the rubbish that sky and the red tops have tried to shove down our necks. I really think people need to forget about the 2010 season under Rafa as the yanks totally shafted him with money and in fairness the aqualani move didn't come off for him but, Alonso, Reina,Torres, mascarano,Agger, Skyrtel, Lucas were all very good and he turned stevie into one of the best goal scoring midfielders in the world for about four seasons straight and him and Torres were the most feared partnership in Europe and he also helped Jamie become one of the best centre backs in Europe.

I'm not saying all this bring back Rafa stuff because to be nostalgic and just talking Fact!!

Give Rafa the money that Damien and Kenny have spent in the last 12 months and I guarantee you we would have a much better team and that Adam dope wouldn't be anywhere near Anfield

Ps. Rafa is the man who put the academy on such solid footing, that was one of his long term plans, he would have made us one of the top 4teams in Europe year on year. Liverpool have one of the best academy set ups in Europe and this started with Rafa.

People just didn't realise we had one of our best ever managers and he still loves us !! Give him the job and give him the cash and sit back support him and let him get on with the job of getting us back on top.

We'll be very very sorry if the Chelsea or Man city money men get him !!

  20. Are you for real ?

  21. If we are to sign any player in the world, then I would put in a cheeky bid for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I've never really rated him, and he loves himself even more than Bentner, but look at his career record:
    League Titles -
    Ajax 2001-02, 2003-04
    Juve 2004-05, 2005-06
    Inter 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09
    Barca 2009-10
    Milan 2010-11

So apart from season 2002/3, he has won the title every year since 2002 with 5 different clubs. Now this guy either has a happy knack of picking a team in form, or he is a winner.

  22. Kenny needs to wake up from denial and back to reality... Get red of the bad players and get playes of HIGH QUALITY, we are tored of the medeoracy at anfield, Cavani can solve lots of our problems scorring to partner w suarez, spearing belongs to the reserves at best.. Henderson few more years as a sub, david villa, super mario, or even podolsky, we thought rafa was bad!!! Look whats happening now.. Atrocious..

  25. while we are at it, ive heard sir roger hunt fancies a game and howie gayle might like a run out.....and we are accused of living in the past????

  26. I think the club needs to move forward in a lot of ways, but one of the things our players seem to lack is the bottle to come out and perform like a Liverpool player. Maybe bringing in ex players with good technique might help in getting some of these players mentally focused. Sure, they might not be as good as we hoped, but some of them, Henderson and Carroll in particular, look as if they are not coping with the expectation. Downing fits into that category as well, even if he has improved of late.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wouldn't be a bad idea to bring fowler back, its not like we've got a lot to lose at this stage in the season and it might help boost some the newer and younger players confidence having him at the Club again, clearly we will need to sort our striker issues out for the long term but in the short term i think having Fowler back would help our cause, certainly won't hinder it.

Not sure if i can see it happening though.

  28. Living in Australia as a LFC fan of 40 years,I had the pleasure of seeing Robbie Fowler in the flesh, playing for North Queensland and later on tv playing for Perth Glory in the Austalian Hyundai League.Robbie is `GOD` in LFC folklore, just as Kenny Dalglish is `KING`.My point being that although the Aussie league is not of EPL standard,it`s still a very competitive and skilled league(just ask Robbie!!)He would NOT NOW be `up to LFC playing standard`in comparison to the mid 1990`s,for a return to LFC as a player, albeit be it short term...BUT as a strkers coach...SPOT ON!!!!!His goalscoring legacy, experience plus as I understand it,his coaching badges that he has attained, would make such an appoinment a no brainer imo.

  29. Of course it's romantic but NO!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Fowler played in the Australian A-League last year & was very overated. Slow & Way too unfit.

As a mad liverpool & Fowler fan i wish he would put his boots up or play non-pro footy.

  31. fair play to you ye can get people to comment on rubbish must be raking in the shillings

    ReplyDelete
  32. Henderson is very fast and has a high work rate with the ball. He has positioning, agility and pace. The problem is he either plays too conservatively or isn't too aware of what his other teammates are doing. His passing choices in the midfield are poor. He does not know how to play reverse passes.

Henderson is a player with alot of natural qualities who puts in a shift, but he doesn't play with much adventure and that is the problem. He has the pace and the tricks to burn, but it always looks like he'd rather leave the responsibility to someone else and that's what makes him such a waste of space!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I couldn't have said that any better. I just can't understand the reasons to why a lot of fans said it was time for him to go!!! He was on such a small budget. Dalglish made 4 big money signings, Benitez was on a budget where he could only make one big signing a season and his biggest buy was  22 million for Torres. Hahah.

People love to blame him on the Alonso fiasco, and the failure to win the EPL. Yet where is all the blame for Adam, Downing, Carroll or Henderson purchases. Benitez showed the bravery to get rid of signings fast, when he figured they were not up for it. Do people really think Dalglish will get rid of the likes of Downing Carroll or Henderson. The impact that they have, I think only Downing would make it on the bench in Benitez's team. And the media wasn't helping at this time either. I distinctly remember that they were labelling Aquilani a flop. A flop?!! Then what the hell is Adam?

For all the legend that Dalglish certainly is, I think Benitez would command a bigger presence to the LFC team. The players would be playing for their contracts, rather than basking in the sun, because at the end of the day Benitez is more ruthless and demands results and work ethic.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think this there is an issue to buying high quality players, because it is not just the fee, but the wages that need to get payed. I suspect that players like Downing Henderson and Carroll dont have the best wages to that of high quality players because they are just average. Henry has stated that he found the wage bracket in disarray when he first took over. But I still think its in disarray right now, because look at what hes paying week in week out for.

And on the Robbie Fowler note, I don't see it as a bad signing because we can just park him inside the box, and he can get at the end of things. If people say hes past it, I don't get it because when you see Carroll play, he is jogging so lazily offering NOTHING. They guy literally struts around. Even Fowler could do that. But he would probably be better player because his experience in positioning himself. But having said that, if a player in his mid 30's can match Andy Carroll, then it is an outrage that players are overlooked in our youth set up and reserves. Why not give Amo, Pacheco, Suso, Morgan their chance. LOOOL. I have access to LFC site and from what I've seen from the "kids with nappies" Andy Carroll must be hiding his wet bed-sheets!!!

  35. it would be good for the strikers and youngsters at the club

  36. Desparate move if Robbie came back, Dlglish will not do that.

  37. No, No, No. Give him a coaching role but not a playing one. He stuggled playing for Cardiff in the Championship.

  38. Since Rafa was sacked the club under 2 different managers £160m and 17 new players has become a spent force. We average a point a match less than both manchester clubs. We will never ever again reach the heights of the Benitez era.Man city will strengthen in the summer,we wont.Kenny Dalglish= Graeme Souness another ex-player who has ruined a great club,we might as all get used to it we are a laughing stock who will just be making up the numbers from now on,those people who wanted Rafa out,you have helped to ruin this great club,I hope from now on the loud mouths who wanted Rafa out never come near thics club ever again as your responsible for our demise.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You might need to check again where Liverpool were at when Rafa was fired. Rafa basically had a high turnover of players when he was at Anfield and for a short time (i.e. 2008/09) he did have something like a good team but that came about more through the law of averages (keep changing it and you might get something that works) rather than by design. It didn't take long for it to fall apart after (we all know that Rafa essentially pushed Alonso out and Mascherano had decided to leave while Hodgson was still at Fulham).

However it wouldn't be the worst decision ever to bring Rafa back now - he does make a team hard to beat and I reckon he's at his best coming into a club initially (Valencia in early 2000s, Liverpool in 2004, although not sure what happened at Inter - to be fair to Rafa that job looked impossible for anyone as has since been the case for Leonardo and Ranieri). As a Man Utd fan I'd like to see Rafa back as it would make things interesting.

  40. Ow how we could do with a twenty something Fowler, I've said it all season, if we had someone with the natural predatory goal scoring technique of God we would be running away with the league this season.
To bring Fowler in as a striking coach would be a great move!

Remember people and so called LFC fans, God moves in mysterious ways!

    Siempre es possible!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I see what you're saying; but surely a Liverpool fan with such valid and passionate opinions would actually be able to get a first team regular's name right?

It's driving me bonkers how loads of people who know it all can't get the simplest of details right...

Not having a personal dig mate, but you see my point?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Doing something well and teaching other people how to do it are completely different.
For me, Aldo is the man we really need to get on board. He DID the business and he has coaching experience - didn't he get Tranmere to a League Cup Final? He supported LFC as a kid, he played for us. Get him and Thommo on board, I say.
On the subject of Benitez... how quickly people forget how many times we lost both home and away to the teams in the bottom three when he was manager, how many times we drew & lost games at home that we should have won, how many times we were knocked out of the cups to lower league opposition. People forget how many players he signed that weren't good enough. First transfer window - Josemi, Nunez, Luis Garcia & Alonso... Alonso was brilliant, the rest... poor (Luis Garcia was constantly getting slated for giving the ball away back then). Next window, Morientes and Pellegrino... For every gem he brought in there were twenty disappointments and not all of them were bargain basement.
Be careful what you wish for...

    ReplyDelete
  43. bring him back as a striking coach. wholeheartedly agree. but it may be that the best the lads can learn from him is actually seeing him in the first team squad. still tho, you gotta fancy his chances of scoring more than the rest of our boys. and he is still a god from the spot. that wont go away with age.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Give Adam Morgan a go instead!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Why would Ba come to Liverpool?

    ReplyDelete
  46. The former: he has a knack of picking the team in form. He may or may not have a contribution to that success and he probably isn't the single (or even biggest) contributor.  Let's have a look at the teams around him in each of those seasons...

    ReplyDelete
  47. Henderson is far from very fast!

Agree he does have abilty which needs to be coaxed out of him.... sooner rather than later!

    ReplyDelete
  48. All i can say is that if we need someone like Fowler back to help our strikers score, than maybe we should really look hard at our strikers. I mean who are we kidding if you are a striker then you should have those qualities all ready, if we want to get serious than we need to cut our loses and move on from Carroll, Adam, Downing and please Henderson, Carra should be benched Coates should finish the season along with Sterling and bleed more young players (give them ago). In the summer get serious (if funds are available) and starting inquiring about players like Moura, Gotze, Hazard, Liorente, Suarez and trying to seal a deal as early as possible. I know we can not offer CL but ffs sell the club and what we are about to them and if that does not work then offer them better wages, im sorry but if we keep the current squad then not even the real god is going to be able to help us.

  53. If folwer and carroll where to play in the next liverpool match and both where fully fit, who would you put your mortgage on to score?? mine would be fowler, even though he is old he still has a natural ability to put the ball in the back of the net. to be fair, all he should do is come back and train with the squad at least he could teach some players how to score!!!

  54. I understand frustration cuz ive been..but kenny game play is not too bad i just think his english he bought can do the job ...Adam can be sold to likes of stoke city(6m),sell andy back to newcastle (ba),sell downing to like newcastle or fulham he can for (10-12m) and finally hendo back to sunderland for (10),plusmoney from cole aquilani and also maxi kuyt will be leaving and craig has 1 season left...So more game play for sterling suso kelly shelvey and buy likes of hazard and cavani. If KD cant do that the best replacement will jose mourihno but doubts..

  55. Henderson is fast? You must be watching Raheem instead of Henderson.
