Liverpool FA Cup Line-Up vs. Brighton: Carroll starts. Bellamy injured...?

Kenny Dalglish has once again shown favourtism towards his expensive summer signings for today's FA Cup tie against Brighton.

Despite both Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson failing to score for almost 50 league games between them, they're both in the starting line-up one again. Both players were anonymous against Man United last weekend, but it seems that under-performing players are guaranteed starts irrespective of their contribution to the team.

Full Team: Reina; Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Enrique, Downing, Henderson, Adam, Gerrard, Suarez, Carroll.

Subs: Doni, Maxi, Coates, Kelly, Kuyt, Shelvey, Spearing.

* Craig Bellamy and Daniel Agger are not even in the squad, which means they've either been rested, or they've picked up injuries.

* It's likely that Henderson will be doing his usual ineffective job on the right again. It's not his fault he's played out of position though.

* No holding midfielder + Carra in defence = Liverpool playing deep.

Probable formation:

----------------- Reina

Johnson -------- Carra -- Skrtel ---- Enrique

Henderson ----- Adam ---- Gerrard ----- Downing

-------------- Suarez --- Carroll

This team is more than good enough to smash Brighton, and hopefully that's exactly what will happen.

SIGH still hoping for a liverpool victory.... but no bellamy???? carragher skrtel combo i would've preffered coates carragher or coates skrtel but whatever guess making a history of appearances is better than us being defensively secure and downing no spearing argh..!!!!!!!!!!!!! whatever... C'MON U REDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

deckenny said...

are you stupid ? bellemy has been one of our best players this season, and next week being an important game, why would you play him ? his knees play up after 2 games within a week so would you rather have him playing half of next week or all of next week ? plus agger has been ill

Jaimie K said...

Stop making lame excuses. It's been 8 days since the United game, and Bellamy didn't even start that game.

yes.. so you have never had a niggle and it comes and goes ? why you risk someone against brighton or have him fully fit against cardiff ?

Where did all this stuff about Bellamy even start up? Everybody loves to make up excuses to justify any decisions from management that they may usually disagree with but here's a simple fact - Bellamy knee's were good enough to start 35 league games last year, even on the typically more downtrodden Championship pitches. He didn't suffer any major injury over the summer.

So is there any actual proof that Bellamy keeps being dropped because of a real problem with his knees, or is this just another myth/assumption/excuse thought up by some random fan and gullibly accepted as truth by the rest of the masses??

I wouldn't take the league cup final as a given especially after what is happening on the pitch today

Carroll moans and swears non-stop at the ref doesn't he. Thought that terd Rooney was bad.

Chan said...

We got a fair bit of work to do, to merge the team's desire to play long to Carroll as well as the desire to get the ball into Suarez's feet around the box.

Horrible first half team performance. Some decent individual performances, but we're lucky to be up.

Downing and Carroll...yikes, strange game

Game over, we should see the game out now

Casanova70 said...

Ofcourse, if Maxi and Bellamy were playing, the score would be 25-1. Well, according to the Liverpool legend I was speaking to earlier.

Chan said...

yikes, how many own goals!?

Kenny holds up 7 fingers signifying the amount of goals Suarez will score for the season lol. The love affair continues...........

Poyet seemed sad that Suarez missed the penalty but cheered up when Suarez scored later

The scoreline betrays the fact Brighton outscored us...

Good win in the end should put enough doubt into Cardiff's minds ready for next week!

Bellamy warming up with a resistance band used possibly in his management of a long term knee problem?

Carroll was being dragged to the ground all half

He is penalised whenever he nudges someone, yet he can be hauled to the ground and referees give nothing

I'm sure it can get frustrating

Best moment for me was when Gerrard misplaced what should have been a simple ball for Carroll, Carroll then chased back 35 yards and won the ball back - great sign

Simon said...

Favouritism? Yes, to LFC

Liverpool always have to strive to get the most out of expensive signings, otherwise we will have to write off 10s of millions

Carroll was excellent today

Jaimie K said...

When is he going to be excellent against non-Championship opposition?

Jaimie K said...

Why has it taken over a year for Carroll to show that kind of desire?

Chan said...

He isn't the only one this happens to in the game that is football but yet, he is one of few that swears and moans constantly. I know he is one of our players but its a bit nauseating the excuses people make, just because they wear a Liverpool shirt.

Jaimie K said...

At half time on LFC TV, Jason McAteer had a go at Carroll for constantly being on the deck., and he is right; the guy is 6"4 for god's sake! Stop being such a pansy and show some body strength; stop bitching about being bullied by defenders and just get on with it. All strikers get that kind of treatment, not just Carroll. The likes of Owen and Fowler were much shorter than Carroll but they still got the job done.

j75j said...

May be Carroll is taking on the personality of his strike partner Suarez!!!!!!!!

j75j said...

Something to do with just getting use to Liverpool and their training programs he said when he first arrived he was n't use to the gym work just his body and mind getting use to it! Gym work weights can weaken the body just as much as strengthening it at first may be just been a massive shock to his system !

Simon said...

Don't know exactly why

Possibly personal problems, fitness, training plan......

I've heard the following, from a work colleague, he read an article in an Australian sports magazine a few months back while on honeymoon.... Liverpool's medical staff is Australian

Carroll's upper body was far to strong in comparison to his legs, and that his lower body could not simply be brought to the same level as he would then be heavyweight boxer material, so they had to build his lower body strength, while reducing upper body mass..... This program reportedly would take 9months....

I'll try to dig out article, have looked before with no success

He is showing desire now though, I personally don't care about previous form, if this is the new Carroll

Simon said...

ESPN said he was being fouled and the refs need to do something about it

Barnes and Keegan

Simon said...

Soon hopefully

The ref had a word about holding in the first few minutes and then seem to forget for the rest of the game!

Sargonid said...

ha, u dont have to play to get injured, do u? bth agger and bellers were not in the squad because of injury. still favourtism?

Billy Boy said...

Can't win with you lot - one minute you're smirking smugly about millions of pounds sitting on the bench, then you bitch and moan when they play. Even when they win 6-1. Tut.

Jay said...

Downing isn't starting every week, and it looks like Adam isn't guaranteed a place either.

Anyways, I bet you weren't complaining when the likes of Maxi and Kuyt were being handed starts every week, while they were killing the club...

oh great(!)

Well said, man. Jaimie K, you seem to forget that Bellamy has a recurring knee problem. Why risk him a week before before a cup final in a game against Brighton? Maxi only just came back from injury as well. Just asking for some proper research, mate. Besides these 'poor' players contributed to a 6-1 thrashing.

“At the moment I get many lessons from many people who have managed zero clubs and zero games and zero European games.” - Aresene Wenger

Guess he's not a complete idiot, then. I think many of you (Jaimie K, zev_lov) can learn a thing or two from that quote.

Jay said...

Sorry, that doesn't even come anywhere close to qualifying as proof that he is incapable of playing twice in a week

j75j said...

Although it's more likely the striker was testing out a new warm up routine in a bid to cure his chronic knee problems, which currently restrict him from playing two games in quick succession.

Read more: http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/oddballs/888864-craig-bellamy-unveils-unique-touchline-dance-routine-during-liverpool-win#ixzz1my48TzLxThat is what the papers reported.
Cardiff City forum from last season Bellamy was not capable of playing twice in a week and he would be saved for certain games.
Also there is an interview in The Telegraph from last season with Bellamy talking about his knee injury 9 operations and how he manages his knee problems by following a training program set up by physiologist Raymond Verheijen set up by Hughes from his days at Man City.

Jay said...

Yes, back under Mark Hughes he endured some serious issues.

But he was incapable of playing twice in a week, to the tune of 35 league games last season. And 26 the season before.

These are plain facts. Not assumptions, or me making tenuous links and jumping to my own conclusions...
