Liverpool Star admits: "It feels HORRIBLE when I don't play..."

Liverpool left-back Fabio Aurelio is fit again after his recent injury blow, and despite the frustration of having to deal with regular setbacks, the Brazilian defender is raring to go. However, it has been difficult for him to actually get into the team, something he admits is very frustrating.

Since arriving at Anfield in 2006, Aurelio's injuries have kept him on the sidelines for an astonishing 23 months, but he returned to action in the 5-1 win against Oldham recently, and came through it without any hitches. He told LFC Magazine:

"I had gone a long time without being involved in any competitive match, so that game was good experience. To be honest, I felt very comfortable in the game, and this gives me confidence to try and look for more opportunities; that is what I am working for"

Unfortunately, opportunities in the Premier League have been scarce, which forced Aurelio to admit recently that 'it's not easy to stay positive' when he's not playing. In his interview, he reiterated his frustration over not featuring in the first team more:

"It always feels horrible when I am not playing, so it was good to be involved [against Oldham]. Like any player, I want to be involved in matches, but with the squad we have, it is not always possible.

"It is up to me and the others who are not playing regularly to do well in the training sessions, and show the boss that we can be relied upon".

Should Aurelio be give a new contract at Liverpool FC?

  1. He should be moved on - we have ample cover in his position.

  2. Why is horrible in CAPS?

  3. While he's available he's an asset and should be used as such - Enrique has been flagging in certain games, so Dalglish shouldn't be averse to resting him while the opportunity is still there. We all know that Aurelio will be laid up again pretty soon, so we might as well make him earn a little bit of his money and play him while he is available

  4. Please quantify "ample cover" as the way I see it, he's second choice to Enrique. I'd rather see Fabio with us to cover in case Enrique gets injured

  5. young jack robinson is already a better player than fabio in my opinion. i've no doubt that fabio is a very skilfull player but we need to give our young players time on the pitch and robinson is the future for us.

  6. What to do Aurelio, you are injury prone!

  9. I'm one of those who don't support constant tinkering with the starting 11 but I wonder whether Fabio could be used as a DM in the absense of Lucas? We know he can deliver pin-point balls and he can also defend....just a thought.

Talking of tinkering, should Kenny experiement with Glen in the RW position and play Kelly as RB? I sometimes think that is a better option than playing Henderson on the right.

I want to congratulate the Reds for an excellent performance against City yesterday. Well done and keep it up! YNWA

  11. Fabio is a quality player, excellent on the ball and a good defender. Unfortunately he can't be relied on because his body is constantly breaking down and for that reason I don't think we should offer him a new contract. Shame because he's been a good servant to the club but with Robinson, Flanaghan and Johnson all able to cover at left back in the absence of Enrique we can afford to let him go.

  12. He should take downing's place in my opinion.

  13. I always thought that he would be gr8 on the left as he  has a fantastic left foot and gr8 delivery i only wonder why KD has not employed him there although downing has not been impressive but has been given enough chances

  14. when hes fit use him. Being injury prone has nothing to do with what a player can do when he is available. Hes there for the end of the season so use him while you can. If he does phenomenal then he may have a shot to stay. He ain't taking his place for granted that's for sure. Adam has been clear of injuries for most of the season, does that imply to his ability. No. Give the guy a chance, he may come good. Its up to him to make him self available for it. As for Robinson as backup is good also, but hes got the rest of his long career to have a shot. With Aurelio's delivery and experience he is more of a threat when attacking. And seeing Liverpool's lack of goals and creativity, Aurelio is a better option.

  15. He's pretty much part of the fabric at this stage. I see no problem if something suitable can be organised financially.  Always good to have veteran pro's like Fabio around the place.
