David Texeira: Is this the South American striker LFC want to sign...?

Liverpool legend Bruce Grobbelaar claims that Kenny Dalglish will definitely sign a striker during the January transfer window.

In an interview with TalkSport earlier today, Grobbelaar tantalisingly hinted that Liverpool are interested in signing TWO strikers in the January transfer window:

"There are two strikers [Liverpool are interested in].

"I know that [Kenny Dalglish] is looking at a South American striker who is playing in Holland and I know that he’s quite close in getting another striker.

"I’m not going to be the one to actually tell you who, but I’m sure that the striker will be arriving soon".

Interesting, but I doubt that Kenny will be happy about Grobbs broadcasting his transfer plans to the world!

So - A South-American striker currently playing in Holland? Unless I'm mistaken, it could only be FC Groningen's 20 year Uruguayan striker David Texeira. Are there any other South American strikers playing in Holland?

Texeira certainly fits Liverpool's 'buy them young' transfer policy, and this season, he has a creditable 8 goals in 12 starts for Groningen.

However, he's completely unproven outside Holland, but perhaps the plan is to buy one proven striker, and another promising striker to develop.

It's entirely possible that Sebastian Coates and Luis Suarez have recommended Texeira to Dalglish, so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

  5. listen to the interview you dimwit! he's talking about our current players: enrique, adam, downing, bellamy and the lot...he specifically focused about the Stoke match of yesterday.....how the fk is it a year ago interview.

  6. but in that interview he also talked about the stoke game so it is relevant!

  7. Thanks for that.  You're right, it could be one of those two also. Lodeiro has barely played for Ajax this season, but Reis has a good goal record. Interesting.

  8. Local LFC Reporter Graham Beecroft also reported we where buying a striker and he isusually very well informed

  9. Nicolas Lodeira of Ajax, more like... he's like Suarez's twin if you look at his style of play. But, I don't know why, due to injuries or other reasons, he only made 6 appearances, although scored a couple of goals in a couple of last games he played.

  10. A good striker now would take us were we want to be

  11. There are 4 other south american "strikers" in the eredivisie, not including attacking midfielders like lodeira. Renato Ibarra doesnt play very often hes a 20 yr old uruguayan, Jonothan Reiss is a 22 yr old brazilian, he hasnt played at all. There is a 28 yr old brazilian striker actually named Everton, hes scored 3 goals - even without that name, not likely. Finally Matias jones - another young uruguayan, hes only made 3 substitute appearancesthis season. If bruces info is correct, the most likely striker probably is David Texeira.

  12. César David Texeira Torres (born 27 February 1991) is a Uruguayan footballer who plays as a striker for the Dutch club FC Groningen, and will soon sign for English club Liverpool FC.He must be signing it's on Wikipedia(!)

  19. We bought a striker from Newcastle last year and he hardly gets a game , every time he plays he looks nervous edgy etc cos he's never had a decent run in a settled team Andy Carroll could and should be a great asset , he keeps hearing the manager / management have great faith in him and are happy with him they just don't play , confused ? He must be , we also signed that other forward and every time he's played he's been a contender for man of the match , the manager / management tell him he's a credit to his profession , a great example to the younger players , they would even like to know what he eats ( ask him) , that gives him his energy , and he watches more games than he plays , confused ? He must be , then there's that other forward who Rafa bought , you know the one we've been playing him on the right wing for most of the last 5 or 6 years , the manager / management decide to play him up front on his own , confused ? He must be , we don't need to sign any more players in this window , we need to get the best out of the players we have , we took 2 of Newcastle's best players last year and there above us right now

  21. Why buy this player when we can have Jon Shaw from Gateshead Blue Square Premier? He has been on fire for his mid table Blue Square side, he is an International and he is even British! Sounds like he fits the bill perfectly! I tried calling Kenny but he is busy on the phone with Gateshead trying to wrap up the multi million pound deal!

I posted this video as well the other day what has happened to Carroll no power in his heading any more, even had a turn of pace as well.
He has spent to much time in the gym like he said himself he was surprised by how much gym work we do seems to have weakened him, could be a reason why the team lacks pace they don't look light on their feet.
Gym work will give you muscle but will it give them pace on the ball?

  24. we need a striker who can make those runs into the D, downing, enrique, johnson hit some mouth watering crosses but there is no one in the D to convert those crosses into goals, we need someone who plays like Nistelroy, doesnt matter whether he is a south american or south african. carroll should cut his pony tail, may be that'll bring him some luck ;)

  25. Andrew you'll get abuse for saying that ! Although I agree.

  26. You're mistaken Jaimie!! It's American Striker Jozy Altidore... What a player!! Some 6 years ago, Jozy Altidore had impressed in world cup for USA. And since then, Comolli has been scouting him. American owner-American Striker. It goes well. On top of that, Altidore is a terrific goalscorer with terrific pace and terrific dribbling skills. His strong physic means he will have no prob dwelling his trade in english soil..

  27. The same player that played for Wolves not so long ago....

  28. as much as i loved kenny, it simply not happening for him this time around, to have a 20m player on the pitch such as downing and henderson that he bought, not to forget a 35m player you know who, just to play like what they did against Stoke and other games before that is simply unacceptable! Its totally waste of money. He is clueless, when the going gets tough, he did nothing to change it and turn the tide to our favor, he is standing at the touchline and doing nothing!!!!!!!! for heaven sake, Mr JW Henry plzzzzzzzz make Brandon Rodgers of Swansea as our new manager! Imagine what he could do with your backing at the transfer market, such a masterful act by him to prepare a team like Swansea that plays only Barca is better. It would be a catastrophe if he ended at Old Trafford!!!

  29. Lodeiro would be a good shout: It was due to Suarez's influence that Lodeiro joined Ajax in the first place

  30. It's commonly accepted that Henderson, Adam, Carrol and Downing are pathetic....   We'll if not working then you need to change.....   As much as I would like us to have signed Mata, Gomez and Podolski.....   We need to sell Kuyt for £8m, Swap Cole for Sow or better still Hazard + £25m and swap Carrol for Darren Bent, although not my first choice much better than Carrol and can't see anyone giving us £10m for Carrol so best do what we can, Bring back Aqualani and buy Wilfred Zaha and Podolski....   Total outlay up to £25m and suddenly we have an injection of pace, guile and goals....  Downing, henderson and Adam can go.....  Not worthy of the red shirt they wear.....

  31. i just think everyone is being impatient and is not giving anyone a chance e.g a few signings (although i do think carroll is shit as) by the looks of things nowun is giving kenny a chance either and as he says it is a working progress but fire power up top is definently in need criticise at the end of the season IF all goes wrong. As for strikers we need a world class striker proven for scoring aload of goals each season no matter what the pricetag.

  33. Jaimie your website is now being used as source with this story on Texeira for transfer rumours

on Transfer Tavern your not turning into Give Me Football website with false
    transfer rumours?

  34. JJ - please read the Texeira story and show me me where I said he was coming to Liverpool, or even hinted that he was. I offered an *opinion* about who Bruce Grobbelaar could be talking about when he said 'Kenny is interested in a South American striker playing in Holland'.

If Grobbs says that, obviously people are going to speculate about who that player is, no?

I've emailed the TT and asked them to remove the references to this site as it is completely inaccurate.

  36. 20m downing, 20m henderson, 35m carroll. This can never be justified. Everyone LFC fan in the world cringed at these signings, knowing they could turn out to be shit as they are now, hoping they wont. Name me one person let alone another manager who would pay similar fees for these players, I think not one. Loonatic signings, scandalous.
Is KK back in charge as manager of LFC for the clubs good? I dont think so. 100% he is back for his own needs.
Wake the f up all you liverpool fans. We are fast becoming the laughing stock of the EPL. Our manager is clueless, and our fans seem to be more happy with 7th spot and championship quality players than fighting for top 4 and challenging for champions league like under rafa. Its like we spent 75m to go back three steps instead of forward.
Just to prove a point, I would have given 42m for cavani and 33m for hazard = 75m, and given raul miereles his pay increase, and even with these figures for these players I would have been seen as wasteful and not astute.

Who would you have Liverpool fans?

    Downing, henderson and Carroll,

    or;

    Cavani, hazard and meireles.
