Rafa Benitez's agent speaks out over Paris Saint Germain link...

Rafa Benitez's agent Manuel Garcia Quilon has dismissed growing speculation linking the former Liverpool manager with Paris Saint Germain.

Al Jazeera announced yesterday that Benitez was set to take over, but Quilon swiftly issued the following denial:

"Rafael Benitez is in Liverpool tonight having dinner with his family.

"There is absolutely nothing going on at this time with the Paris-SG.

"Rafa insists there is nothing with PSG.

"He never talked to the club and he has no Paris trip in his agenda in the coming days"

If Benitez does end up at PSG, it's possible he'll finally have the one thing he's always complained about: lots of money to spend.

PSG's owners, The Qatar Investment Authority, splashed out £76m on summer signings, and I'm sure their generosity and obvious ambition will be attractive proposition for Benitez.

  1. Rather unfair. Rafa did not "always" complain about not having "lots of money to spend". He complained rightfully after Athens about the time it took Parry to do deals, and he again rightly commented that he couldn't always get the players he wanted due to financial restrictions imposed the Americans. An example of the situation he found himself in was tying up a deal for Alves only for Parry to refuse to meet it and instead get Pennant. Rafa was managing a club with huge expectations, but relatively limited resources.

  2. great post, imo correct, however I do believe JK will have something to regarding your post !!!

  3. It's come to a point where I don't even know who did Rafa signed personally and others that Parry signed. Aguero,Alves etc...! That would have been a team.

  4. What I find appalling is the media's lack of truth.

  5. 300m over 6 years is not 'relatively limited resources', but keep believing that if it makes you feel all warm inside :-)

  6. It's pretty simple really - Benitez signed each of the players that was a success, wanted to sign every player that developed into a world beater elsewhere, and didn't want us to sign any of the players that flopped :-)

  7. It's not the most highly reputed league, but for any manager looking to rebuild his reputation with trophies, PSG would be a great move imo

  8. I don't want to get into a futile row, but £300m over 6 years? An average spend of £50m a year is not what I recall. Further, if you want to be taken seriously as an observer of Liverpool FC, you'd be well advised to leave out the assinine remarks in response tothose who post in good faith.

  9. Whether I'm 'taken seriously as an observer of LFC' is irrelevant to me; I don't write for approval or ego massage. Plus, my comment to you was in in good humour (as evidenced by the smiley), so perhaps you need to stop being so hyper-sensitive.

The club's accounts confirm that Benitez's total gross spend between 2004 and 2010 is 300.9m

  10. more relevant than gross spend is net spend. any figures on that ?

  11. Good luck Rafa.

  12. Rafa in the French league? That could be yet another disaster but it does not look like any clubs from the EPL including LFC want to take on his services so PSG might just be his best bet but cannot see it working out. Rich owners which PSG do have will always have the last say and Rafa will be throwing his demands around of sack me or back me again six months into his job and get fired again. Leopards never change their spots. FACT!

  14. during that time can you point out the money generated by player sale and could you please mention net spend cause that will tell us how much money he spent..one more thing if i sell a thing for 10bucks and buy another for one for 5...it doesnt mean i ave spent 5bucks..it means i a made profit...

  15. It's in the club accounts. There are numerous articles on this site containing factual evidence to back this figure up. And I can't be bothered to get into another net spend argument, so we'll have to just agree to disagree.

  16. what about the money recouped in player sale..mention the net spend, rafa did what he could..his last year was bad and his sacking was the right thing..but dont be biased..i hope your articles will not say kenny spent 111m..cause net spent will be less than 5m in 2011..

  17. Yes, Rafa was hard done by. He never made any mistakes. It was everyone else's fault. We should all worship at his altar. Etc.

  18. his last year was bad and his sacking was right...that doesnt mean anyone can say whatever they want...again 'net spend' please..dont say kenny spent 111m...

  19. he made mistakes..dont say everything he did was a mistake.
