MAN UNITED legend: Kenny Dalglish is 'desperate'...

Manchester United legend Lou Macari believes that Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish should have been brought back to Anfield 'long before last season'.

Macari, who played against Dalgligh many times during his playing career at Old Trafford (and scored the winning goal for Man United against Liverpool in the 1977 FA Cup final) noted:

"I grew up with Kenny at Celtic in the late 1960s onwards, and have kept in touch ever since. He should have been brought back to Liverpool long before last season's return in my opinion.

"Now he's back and determined to get the good times rolling again. He's gone in there and been honest with the owners by telling him he's no magician, because there are no magicians in football.

"There are just good players, and Kenny will hope he's now brought in the right quality and the right commitment after being backed by those American owners of his.

Macari, who has known Dalglish personally for over 40 years, warned Stoke City that they can 'forget about Liverpool turning up with a weakened team and not taking tomorrow's Carling Cup tie too seriously':

"He will be desperate for a result at the Britannia Stadium. Desperate for a result because he wants some silverware, and the Carling Cup is a good route to lifting some for his club.

"Desperate for a result because he will still be feeling sore about losing at Stoke in the Premier League this season, especially after the controversy over Jonathan Walters's penalty winner.

"And desperate for a result because he simply loves winning football matches – and hates losing them".

Bill Shankly tried to sign Macari, but he decided to go to Old Trafford instead, a snub which prompted one of Shankly's most famous quotes:

"He couldn't play anyway. I only wanted him for the reserve team!"

Looking back, I'm sure Macari is gutted now; if he'd signed for Liverpool, he would've been part of Bob Paisley's all-conquering team of the 70s and early 80s, and his medal collection would be looking a lot more impressive today.

Instead, he joined United and promptly got relegated to the 2nd division (!)

  2. yep Lou...Kenny should have brought in after the Evans reign.

We would have had a few premierships in the bag and a champions league or 2. But best of all we would not have to put up with the blind faith a few have in Benitez.
