Suarez - Evra: "Abuse between players is as bad as any offence in the game..."

Wales and Cardiff striker Robert Earnshaw believes that racism is still rife in English football, but insists that Liverpool F.C forward Luis Suarez is innocent until proven guilty.

Earnshaw, who revealed that he has 'experienced racist abuse loads of times...even at certain grounds in this country', said:

“It’s hard to comment [on the Evra-Suarez incident] because both players have their opinions and it might be crossed wires, we just don’t know.

“I’m a big fan of both players, but Suarez swears he said nothing and Evra is saying the opposite. We’ll have to see if anything is proven.

"Abuse between players is as bad as any offence in the game. The biggest punishments possible should be served if it is player to player.”

Earnshaw acknowledges that initiatives to tackle the problem in football are having the desired effect, but accepts that there's still 'a hell of a lot more work to be done':

"Racism in football is something that has always been there, but in the last 10 years it’s got much better. Hopefully in the next 10 years it can be eradicated.

“The Show Racism the Red Card campaigns are doing great work. It’s all about raising awareness and education".
