So, it’s Hodgson, Hicks, Gillett, Purslow, Broughton + Ayres OUT. How about FANS OUT instead?

According to a minority of ignorant Liverpool fans, everyone in the club’s hierarchy needs to be run out of Anfield. Apparently, they’re all devious; lying; scheming; doing their best to destroy the club; only in it for themselves etc. Hicks and Gillett aside, there is no evidence that the likes of Purslow and Broughton (or anyone else) has done anything negative against the club, but that doesn’t stop certain fans making things up and inexplicably demonising certain people connected with LFC.

For example: Christian Purslow has been the victim of an ongoing smear campaign from certain fan sites/groups that has absolutely NO foundation in fact. Among other things, he has been demonized because he played a part in (rightly) getting rid of Rafa Benitez, and because he didn’t give Kenny Dalglish the Liverpool job.

In the bizarro world constructed by fantasists masquerading as 'fans', Purslow is now in league with H+G; he’s a liar etc. etc. Of course, the fact that he is a lifelong Liverpool fan is conveniently forgotten/ignored, as are all the positive things he’s achieved since arriving at Liverpool.

And what about Martin Broughton? He has not put a foot wrong since arriving at LFC, yet he apparently is the devil. And why? Is there a list of factual, compelling reasons to paint him in such a light? NO. As usual with this group of fans, the reasoning is as simplistic as it is stupid: he’s a Chelsea fan, therefore he must be the devil.

This group of fans is *still* on their backs despite the fact that it is obvious both have the best interests of LFC at heart. It is Broughton and Purslow who continually veto Hicks’ attempts to refinance; they together are part of the only barrier stopping Hicks from taking further control of the club (!).

Who cares though, right? The group of fans I’m talking about don’t give a monkeys about that; they just want someone to blame, and don’t really care who it is. This is the same group of fans who are calling for Roy Hodgson’s head after six freakin’ league games. It would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic.

A prime example of the cretinous attitude I’m talking about can be found in the latest article from Empire of the Kop, one of the websites that is a chief culprit in disseminating lies and misinformation about the club’s hierarchy.

----------
Are Broughton and Purslow delaying the sale of the club?

We are all focusing on Hicks and Gillett however we simply can’t forget Purslow and Broughton. In my opinion they are as guilty as Hicks and Gillett in stalling the sale of the club.
Let us remember that Chelsea fan Martin Broughton was appointed as Liverpool chairman back in April and his job is to find new owners. From what I understand Broughton only spends one day a week on Liverpool matters so realistically he has had about 20 working days so far.

From what we read a few days ago the Chairman will make a nice a windfall from the Liverpool sale. I am sure he must be getting some kind of salary in the meantime too.Remember that is was Purslow who sacked Rafa and he was the one who snubbed Kenny Dalglish while promising him “bigger things”. Where are those bigger things? Did I miss a press release somewhere?

Purslow seems to avoid the media and the only recent interview he gave was to LFCTV so of course this avoided the difficult questions. If I am not mistaken Purslow will not get any severance package when he leaves Liverpool so he is going to milk it as long as possible.

He (Purslow) knows that when new owners come on board he will most probably be axed and a proper Chief Executive (someone with football knowledge) will be brought on board. Yes Purslow does claim to be a Liverpool fan but that doesn’t make him an angel.
So Hicks & Gillett out but Broughton & Purslow to follow them ASAP.

----------

This is some of the most ignorant, imbecilic, imperceptive drivel I’ve ever read about LFC. No facts; nothing remotely persuasive; nothing approaching sense. Just lies, deception, innuendo and misinformation designed to smear Purslow and Broughton, draped in the most simplistic ‘reasoning’ this side of a junior school playground.

Stalling the sale of the club?! Based on what? Absolutely nothing. Then we have the ill-informed gash about Purslow and Broughton’s financial compensation, which clearly goes to show the writer (Antoine Zammit) is completely ignorant about how MDs/Chairmen operate.

The reason I am being so harsh is that this kind of thing is dangerous. It is unacceptable and anti-LFC in the truest sense of the concept. It is attacking two of LFC’s hierarchy for no reason at all other than to have someone to attack; someone to blame. Any fair-minded fan with rudimentary intelligence can see that the EOTK article above is spurious nonsense.

The worst thing about such articles is that lots of impressionable fans will read it and agree, even if they don’t really know why. As a result of ignorance like this, half-baked rumours and Chinese whispers spread; fans turn against people at the club, and LFC is then at war with itself.

I really can’t believe that EOTK is truly this ignorant; if they are, then god help us.

This is the problem we (as moderate, reasonable fans) are facing. It is our job to NOT be fooled by this lunacy, and ensure that other fans don’t fall for it either. It is our job to present the fair-minded, logical and reasonable face of LFC fans to others (both LFC and Non-LFC fans).

Our reputation as intelligent, gracious, humble fans is under threat by the likes of EOTK, and the various thug fan groups bringing the club’s name into disrepute.

We have to fight back, and the only way to do that is to remain clear-headed, add reasonable views and the factual TRUTH into conversations about LFC (on message boards etc), and CHALLENGE anyone who comes up with nonsense like the above.

You will (predictably) be me with abuse, but sooner or later people will start to see the truth.

Or, if you want all fans to be brainwashed into thought processes similar to the EOTK article above, then do nothing.

To paraphrase a famous saying:

The only thing necessary for the triumph of ignorance, lies and deception about LFC is for reasonable, fair-minded fans to do nothing".

It's up to us.

  1. Actually, Jaimie, if you'd read the comments on that website, which I'm sure you did (based on one particular comment from a fan calling himself "Steve") you'd see that most responses were telling the author he'd got it wrong. You have a well-known vendetta against that particular website, and to attempt to stigmatise and condemn all those who write on its forums is more than a little childish not to mention narrow-minded. Interesting how you posted recently "these thoughts are just my opinion" and then attempt to criticise a parallel public forum for the exact same thing. Hypocrite much?

Having said that I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment, just not the extent of your vitriol. I use the same username everywhere so you can gladly check my response on that website.

  2. I've been long amazed by some 'fans' compiling stories about, and trying to undermine the reputation of Purslow. This is a shameful act painting all Liverpool fans and the club itself in unpleasant colour for all neutral onlookers.

  3. What exactly do comments on EOTK's forums have to do with anything?  Nothing.  I don't know where you got that idea from.  I'm exhorting people to do exactly that: post counter arguments and challenger people who hold such views.

And don't accuse me of  having a 'vendetta' unless you're aware of the full facts.  EOTK has slagged this site off for ages *completely unprovoked*.  It has written articles slagging me off, again completely unprovoked.

I only entered the fray recently to defend myself.

I can see that you are an intelligent person, which is why it amazes me that you routinely come out with unintelligent conclusions re this site. For example, this:

Interesting how you posted recently "these thoughts are just my opinion" and then attempt to criticise a parallel public forum for the exact same thing. Hypocrite much?

You are letting your personal view of me/this site/whatever get in the way of being fair.  Of course I say things like 'this is my opinion',  however. those opinions are the polar opposite of EOTK, i.e. they are backed up with reason, evidence (where possible), and the conclusions are not based on lies, deception and deliberate misinformation.

EOTK's article it a blatant attempt at continuing the baseless smear campaign against Purslow and Broughton.  Jus because Zammit says 'it's just my opinion' doesn't make it right or acceptable.  That's like me posting an article arguing that 'Rafa Benitez was secretly working for Chelsea, and his job was to undermine Liverpool from the inside', then ending it with 'It's just my opinion though'.

Surely you can see the difference?

If you can't, I suggest you stop visiting this site.

  6. You lost it in the firsdt paragraph. In it you can't wait to stress your opinion - that which shows your undoubted bias against Benitez. Everybody else has a misguided view except you it would appear. You are right all others wrong. Wuite childish rhetoric I would think.

  7. Well, i agree with Purslow out simply because its CLEAR he does not have a talent in picking good managers for the club, a critical requirement for the top clubs. Kenyon handpicked Mourinho, Dein handpicked Wenger, Purslow handpicked Hodgson. Simple as that.

  8. You're getting far too personal over what is essentially a group of random fans posting their opinions. Obviously some will post some rubbish much like those at the ground/in the pubs will spout some tosh, that's not to say that each article is entirely representative of the entire site. Why don't you take your own advice and stop visiting their site then? I repeat, it's hypocritical to suggest that your opinion is more valid than another fans simply because you believe it to be so.

My personal opinion of you is what keeps me returning, I'm sure there are many others with the same perspective.

  9. Jamie I must say I do not always agree with you but mostly, I do. On this issue you are spot on. You are accused of trying to undermine LFC yet the author of the piece (who always closes with YNWA so that's alright then), is undermining the whole structure of the club.

  10. You see - that is a credible argument.  You personally want Purslow out and have a specific reason for doing so.  That's great.  I might not agree with it at all, but at least it's reasonable.

  12. Hi Jaimie,
looks like you are getting obsessed with the Empire of Kop and you are giving them free advertising. i had never heard of them till you started having a go at them, or was them having a go at you.
its really sad that we are looking for someone to blame when we should support our team. something in the club had not been right for a while and it seems that we all want to blame someone. I actually think there are some positives in the club. there are many young players who i think in few years will do well for us and financially although we are in debt but club still making money and many big companies are queueing ot sponsor the club. and Purslow should get some credit for that. I think also him and chairman should get some credit to ensure hicks wont put us in more debt, (if you beleive the papers)
in regard to sacking Hodgson, you know i think its stupid to even suggest that so early however I have now to go and read their articles  to see if they ever suggested that.
now about your attack at empire of Kop
I was agianst them calling you names and also agianst you call them  completely ignorant .
he is entitled to his opinion as you are.
Dear Jaimie, please remember that you had same sort of approach about Benitez last year as he has about Hodgson, please check some of your comments last year so early in season about Benitez and in regard to your comment "
The worst thing about such articles is that lots of impressionable fans will read it and agree, even if they don’t really know why. As a result of ignorance like this, half-baked rumours and Chinese whispers spread;" again i tell you that was one of my impression from your last year articles. so I think you having a go at him on that issue is a little bit not fair and shows that your obsession agianst themthis is the time fans ahould get united instead fighting each other.

  13. Undermining his reputation after a mere 3 months in the job?  Don\'t you think that's a bit harsh?  Houllier finished 7th in his first season; Benitez finished 5th; both failed to qualify for the CL.  Did that undermine the repuation of David Moores?  Let's be reasonable here.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The only person to say this would be hicks and gillet. You are even more pathetic this time around. Why not write a research intensive epitaph of the last football club Hicks and Gillet owned. !Do you dare!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jaimie why did you delete my reply when i had not been abusive and aswer your article?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Actually Benitez did qualify for the Champions League in the best way possible. He WON the damn thing!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Again you misunderstand (either deliberately or accidentally).  Where have I suggested or said that my opinion is more valid?!  That is what YOU are bringing to the table, not me.

And I do not take it personally at all.  Insults against me mean nothing.  Surely you can see that I am focusing on the wider issues here, i.e. how articles such as the EOTK post are part of larger capmpaign which is (IMO) undermining the club?  Don't try and twist it by suggesting its personal.

And it's not a group of random fans - EOTK has almost 40,000 twitter followers, many of whom will be LFC fans.  They are being fed these lies on a daily basis, and as I said in the article, it is up to the reasonable fans to redress the balance.

I visit their site only to see the lies being posted so I can then argue against them.

This is the way of the world.  As an example, if a newspaper posts lies about someone/thing, that person/organisation will challenge thenm in court and force them to retract.

It's the same principle here.  It's all about the last line of my article above: if no one says anything, then all the lies and misinformation jsut keeps being spread; people keep believing it, and we end up with the situation we're in now where there is so much negative misinformation about LFC flyinf around that no one can see the woods for the trees.

That is the main purpose of this site: redressing the balance.  Whether it's finances, transfer fees, or smear campaigns against the hierarchy, there needs to be a loud voice out there debunking the lies.

And whether people like it or not, that is this site. And whatever people think of me as a result is irrelevant to me.

  18. Hi Jamie

I totally agree with you about the article written on Purslow and Broughton. But I do also agree that everyone has to go from hicks, gillet, purslow and hodgson.
Well all know about the yanks better not say anything else eventhough you knowing how loyal some fans were to benetiz use to use this space to wind alot of people up which I found amusing.
Purslow because his sole job and why he was employed is to get investment and get new owners. Just like our very good friend benetiz failed at his job so did Purslow. Ok he might have redeemed himself by getting rid of benetiz, convincing torres to stay (how long can that last) and not allowing the yanks to refinance but he is not a footballing man and his job will end with new owners.
Ok now to Hodgson he is doing the exact same things that Benetiz was doing but like you the media didnt like rafa so they would pick these things out which they not for hodgson. Last year reira and babel ranted and it was unrest at anfied. This year jovanic and agger have already ranted. The formation and style of play is the same as last year. Like so many players in the past e.g bellamy, keane, kewell, penant hodgson is struggling to get the best out of cole. The best players are not performing and whose job is that. I know its early in the season but getting outplayed by birmingham, wba and sunderland this season is unexceptable especailly with torres and gerrard on the pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Jamie it is often the poor fan who is at the mercy of unscrupulous members of the media, a damn shame really.
I can empathise with the likes of the board they are in a no win situation and justly do not deserve most of the criticism levelled at them.
But this is desperate times for the club loved by millions around the world and many who have been fed lies from both sides (mostly owners and media) clearly do not know what to believe.
Many believe the bigger noise they make regardless of in which direction it is pointed, is going to cause no harm only good but that is very few, and you cannot at least ignore their passion no matter how misguided.

    ReplyDelete
  20. well, i like to know why you deleted my reply when i agree with you about supporting the manager, chair and CE but reminded you how negative you were last year and the whole point of having a go at EMPIRE OF KOP is not good for club. arent we allow you to tell you you are wrong now

  21. He finished 5th - he did not qualify in his first season.  Yes, we got in as a result of winning the CL, but at that time there was no rule granting CL winners who finish outside qualification places a place in the competition. That rule had to be created.

  40. But it's always been the case that the winners get to defend their crown, so give it a rest. We know you're not pro Rafa, stop putting it in everyone's face every 2 mins. The results we are getting at the moment are as a result of people/so called fans such as yourself calling for a change in management.  I bet your loveryboy Martin O Neill wouldn't have done a better job (given that he wouldn't have got near the dugout as you were too busy rimming him.)

  41. I read you page and times i have agreed and disagreed, but you seem to be under the impression that other so called fan pages speak for the real Liverpool Fans, which trust me they dont, even SOS is in the minority when they express there opinions.

As far as the board and owners are concered, the majority of fans just want the yanks gone, the board rarely ever get mentioned.

The real issue at the club is the manager, Hodgson is clearly not up to the task in hand, and after 15 games it is clear for all to see, if you want to quote real Liverpool fans, then ask the Question, Is this Guy what LFC needs?  but because he a nice guy and good to the press nothing is being said... The mind truly boggles. Though on a deeper level, it really saddens me that there are idiots out there with a computer, that can't compute basics facts enough to know they know f*ck all.

  44. At least, Rafa did force the UEFA to change the rule. WELL DONE. Roy is just not the manager good enough for Liverpool.

From his tactics, you can see he is definately tactical inept. His team play is defensive and not depend on technical abilities which all top clubs needs. His failure to recognised that Pacheco and Babel are better than Ngog, his playing 2 defensive midfield and playing with 1 striker. All these reflected that he is tactical inept.

Also, his dealings in the transfer market also said that he is not good enough. He buy Konchesky, Poulsen which is a good player. His inability to buy a striker and wingers during the transfer windows already show that he is not good in buy good player. He have 2 months to look for players and he said that he do not have time. As for, his inability to loan Ben afra, miss out on van der vaart also reflected that his inanility to attract top class players.

Under Roy, Liverpool played the worst football in the Liverpool's history. Torres and Riena seems uninterested to played under Roy. If Roy continue to be manager, then Torres and Riena and even Gerrard will hand in the transfer request anytime soon.

The list of Roy have to be sacked has long way to go.

Jaimie asked for Benitez to be sacked? Really?

Is Jaimie employed by LFC? I guess Jaimie also approved the payout on Rafa's contract when he left?

And I guess Jaimie was the only fan that wanted benitez out? How many fans are there worldwide giving there support to this club who also wanted Rafa out and you are saying Jaimie asked for Benitez to be sacked? Genius mate GENIUS.

Yet, none of the fans who wanted Rafa out had the power to send him packing and you want to blame Anti rafa for him not being here anymore? Pathetic.

  47. Jamie, a lot of most LFC fans don't like you and some even say that you are in fact a United fan on a wind up, but here is my take on the matter.

I agree with what you wrote about fans groups running around with pitch forks looking for someone to take their anger out on either rightly or wrongly.  I don't like the way that fans groups and websites, not just the one your talking about just decide to start a vendetta against certain individuals but at the same time they will then start a hate campaign against certain reporters.

The main problem is that these people seem to think it's perfectly alright for them to write poison pen letters on their blogs, and in forums, but when a reporter for a newspaper does it then it is wrong.

I don't have a problem with SOS per say, but the problem I do have with them is they have the attitude that they are whiter than white, and nothing they can do is wrong or will ever be wrong.  Think about the Titanic for a minute.

TBH I think that it can sometimes be quite embarrasing for us as a club when you see the fans having a pop at the board, when certain members of the board are from the same streets as the fans.  And like you I don't get why these people would want to shaft LFC the way it's being suggested they are.  Purslow is a multi millionaire and if the truth be known would be glad to get the club sold so he can leave his job and have his life back.  But the thing is people will just not have it and do seem to think that they are also raping the club along with twit and twat.

  48. How was it right to get rid of Rafa when it the circumstances baring last season he performed a miracle giving the actual funds and promises he had. Read his interview and you will find that he had a host of broken promises and promises of transfer funds for targets which were withdrawn at the last minute which in turn put his plans into problems since there was little time to adjust targets etc. He also openly admits a mistake in handling the whole Alonso issue he admits to mistakes but on the whole he was doing a great job with the resources. Any of you Rafa haters need to understand more about the whole picture and one this is for certain, Rafa's Liverpool would NOT have lost to Man City 3-0 nor given away a stupid 2-0 lead at OT. Roy is not even close to being the manager Rafa is and in time it will come come apparent that letting Rafa go was a HUGE mistake. With proper transfer funds we would have played better and had a great chance of winning the league.

This is my opinion and I am totally against any opinion who believe it was right to let Rafa go. The reason for the issue with CP is that he admitted after the sacking of Rafa that 'even the media thought it was time for Rafa to go.' How can you take decision based on what the media think. Nobody questions his commercial knowledge or skills, nobody should question is a season ticket holder and fan but that does not make him a proper football MD and being part of a board that took a decision to remove Rafa who also stated he was preparing for the new season, so not as mutual as CP says, taking decision huge like the managers position and then the manager to replace based on media input is crazy and mental. That is PART of the reason why he is not entirely trusted and there is a desire to see him leave as and when there are new owners.

So why is it then that even Kenny Dalglish wrote in his new book that it was right for Liverpool and fror Rafa to part company?

And when the new owners come in and decide to give Roy a chance just as Rafa had, will they also be nailed to the wall?

    Rafa is no longer...

So Jag, what will happen if the new owners decide to keep Roy?

    ReplyDelete
  51. That is one persons opinion on the matter so why does it make it the right decision if Dalglish said it?

Has it not occured to you that he wanted the job? He was bound to say that!

Everybody knows Roy is not up the job, its only been 6 leagues games blah blah, it is blatently obvious. His managerial record is not good, he is not a winner and does not have the mentality to be a Liverpool manager.

If Rafa was so bad why did the European Champions snap him up?

  52. We all know you didn't like Rafa, but to then defend the person who sacked him, against everyone and everything just for the sake of it is just nonsense!!!

Read this! You will see lots of points which make Purslow the hated person he now is:
    http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/liverpool-is-my-home-and-i-will-come-back-2362665.html
You will see that Purslow acted in the interest of the owners and lied to the manager, which is just not excusable!!!

Plus Purslows last interview was full of lies, like the point with the transfer money for example!!!

So next time you start writing, leave your personal feelings and differences out and write about facts!

What is also disgraceful is the fact that some fans crucify Purslow for keeping Dalglish at the club for as long as possible and then call Dalglish a cunt for backing Purslow.

I wonder what  Dalglish would be going through if he found himself in the same position as Roy at the moment?

    So Smith

Maybe you can tell me what will happen if the new owners decide to keep Roy?

  57. Purslow is not liked because as he stated himself he was appointed by Hicks and Gillette, not the banks our owners, so who interest is he really looking out for. He failed with his search for investment and replaced our most successful manager since Kenny with a fucking mediocre journeyman manager, his dealings in the transfer market have been laughable to say the least so I'm at pains to know why you think we should back in.

In relation to Broughton you said he has done nothing wrong will you answer me what he has done right, he was brought in 6 months ago again by Hicks and Gillette after being recommended by one of Hicks business friends to sell the club. Most clubs are sold in days never mind months. He has failed to find buyers before the October deadline and I think he has failed at his what he was brought in while I've no doubt picking up a wage in a week which we'd barely make in a year. Again I don't know why your so sure in backing him.

I do see your name Jamie crop up in forums from time to time and it ain't nice what the vast majority of people are the forums think of you. I've yet to read and article from you which I can agree with and find it hard to take any person serious as a Liverpool fan who has up on till recently not seen the problem with Hicks and Gillette.

    ReplyDelete
  58. There are alot of questions about purslow which i hope jaime can help me answer (I just name a few here)
    - He was brought in to find investment, did he succeed?
    - Why allowed a new contract for rafa then payout in the later year?
    - Who actually has a big say in transfer? Roy or Purslow? Aquilani/Insua/Yossi etc?
    - He find Roy Hodgson as manager for us?

When Roy was appointed, i am willing to give the new manager time to prove himself but what i had seem for the past few matches, I dont see any SLIGHT improvement, instead we played worst. His "tactic or his style" if there's really suit liverpool? The way he talk during pre/post match conference, did not defend torres when ferguson label him a cheat, northampton defeat, label protest against the owner as making things more difficult for him, keep whining about Owner issues when he should concentrate more on the pitch, Agger/Milan unhappiness etc convince me that roy is not up to the job. He probably here to steady the ship but i dont think he had the ability to move the ship forward.

  59. to jaq

rafa didnt have funds? he spent roughly 20 million pounds on aquilani AN INJURED PLAYER, when we needed a striker, when he was offered money plus sniejder for alonso, rafa chose to spend this money on an injured player, rafa chose the tactics, rafa chose to take torres off in games we were losing or winning, rafa chose to employ rubbish tactics and not use the attacking talent we had available, it was this reason rafa was sacked because he was simply not good enough, and i fear even though its early days its these same reason roy hodgson will be let go sooner than later

letting aquilani go on loan and buying meireles was, to me, a mind boggling decision, why not keep aqua, play him, and use the money for a striker.

bottom line is, rafa might hve not had the funds he would have liked, but what he did have he spent wrong on a massive scale

    And Smith...

I like the way you say that it is one person opinion about it being right for Rafa to go...

Maybe you should go back and look at what Dalglish has done for this club and what he is still doing for this club.

I would rather believe Dalglish than some of those who are no calling him a cunt.

    ReplyDelete
  61. If new owners come in and keep Roy and results continue to drop I do not see them sticking with him, would you if you invested hundreds of millions of pounds. The minimum is Champs league and sadly I dont think Roy is the man, I hope I am wrong.

Define what you mean by chance because being in the job with broken promises of funds, players etc which incidentally has been backed up my the players and senior players like Torres then no I hope Roy if he is going to stay gets much better backing and a chance to deliver with correct funds. Like it or not Rafa did wonders with the resource and Roy has changes the squad having signed 7 players for the squad already. He has himself said the team does not play  with wingers and hence having four central midfield players in games.

You are right Rafa is no longer but that does not mean we should not learn the lessons from his reign. Yes just like other managers he made mistakes and on more than one occasion but on the whole the expectations of scraping fourth changed to being more for the majority in third or above and above Arsenal for his reign and winning more than Arsenal who have had more stability. He was not backed when he wanted and his plans were not executed as promised. Rafa is not and will not be everyones cup of tea but unite in the knowledge that he and the players were deceived by the Top-management and those lessons should be taken in order to have long term success our our club. As fans we will never agree entirely on managers, players etc but one thing that we do agree on is having success for the club and that success will happen by not repeating mistakes made.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Totally agree with everything you said!!

A few things to add to this though:

Is Insua worse than Konchesky? Insua took a lot of flak last year for our poor defence, which seems as bad as ever!

Talking about our defence, apparently zonal marking never worked yet how bad do we look when we man mark now? no wonder rafa employed that tactic.

But the big thing I dont think anybody has mentioned is I think Dalglish is having a big say in everything!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Excellent response here, Jaimie (who spells a name like that anyway!) started off by stating FACT, which he has not done himself.

    ReplyDelete
  64. How can you criticise the fans we are the only good about the club at the moment the manager and players are not performing at the moment, the owners are a pair of bloodsuckers, as for purslow he said we spent the same last year as we had in other seasons (lie), Broughton said before he sacked Benitez there would be money to spend (lie) whether they all need to go or not is debatable but one thing is true the fans are the only ones who truly care about the club, and the only ones who are not liars like the board and owners, and not making excuses like the manager and players.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Maybe you could answer my question back to you and then I will give a response.

How anybody can try to justify something from a book that was published after the event is beyond me personally.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The Roy Hodgson Brigade2:17 pm, October 03, 2010

So we have to learn from our mistakes 3 months into a new managers job when he has not even had a chance to prove himself yet. Then my friend Rafa should have never been given six years to prove himself.

If new owners come in and decide to keep Roy then it is going to zip your mouth should he deliver but the whole point of my question to you was that the new owners will also be crucified should they give Roy a shot at the job. These will also be calling the new owners one of the Yanks.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Stebby, I am not sure whether you are responding through personal opinion, tabloid facts, or Sky Sports analysis? Rafa did not get his spending wrong on a massive scale. His buys that he sanctioned were in the main very successful, Renia, Masch, Agger, Torres, Luis Garcia, Alonso, Sissoko, Riera (till he got in a sulk), Arbeloa, Skertle, Insua, Pacheco, a vast majority of the promising youngsters in the reserves and academy. He also got some wrong which he admits and which manager does not? He got Robbie Keane wrong if you believe he sanctioned that signing in the absence of signing Gareth Barry as the as the prerequisite of signing Keane.

Aqualani signing aside Rafa was supposed to have a further £30ish million to spend as he made profit of £4million give or take and was supposed to have £20-25million to spend in each summer transfer window. That was what he was promised upon signing his long term contract only months earlier and what Torres and the other players were told. Rafa wanted to spend that money on buying a Striker and Villa was on the list and whether he would have come is debatable but that was the type of targets, yet these funds were not given. So no he did not have the funds available. His net spend over the last 3 season was less than Tottenham, and Sunderland and correct me if I am wrong but apart from one bad season we have managed to finish above Tottenham and Sunderland right? He was asked about the attacking talent etc and Rafa said with the funds plus what was available that is what he felt was right in terms of tactics etc. If he had signed a striker like say Villa then Gerrard would have played with Masch in midfield with Villa off Torres and then Aqua would have been not an issue till he was fit to help out later but with pulling funds and not allowing Rafa to complete his transfer funds it affected everything. Why is that so hard to see?

Also as I have said let us learn from this. If the club want to back the manager let do lie about budgets and what targets are expected to be seriously captured otherwise we will suffer.

  69. If we had board stability money etc maybe Perslow could have brought in a better man but face facts the club wasn't goin in the right direction and the owners where looking for a 'yes man' manager because theyd had enough of Rafas ramblings. Roy fit this criteria and the rests history. Personally i would have loved if Kenny took the reigns until we were able to get someone else besides he was already on the payroll how much more money would have been needed, we had to pay out Fulham compensation for Roy that money could have gone on Transfers. Look im not that happy with the situation aswell i don't like ROy and i wasn't happy Kenny got snubbed or the fact we didn't go for O'Neil, but seriously i don't think Perslow is as bad as people are making out. They've already blocked the owners re-financing attempts give them a chance to find the right buyer, if RBS get the club then its going to be auctioned and we could end up with another Hicks or Gillett because it would go to the highest bidder not the best buyer......YNWA

  70. I don't usually comment on board matters cus it bores the heck out of me.  Board level activity whether it be at Liverpool, Tesco or the flippin government is full of lies and spin.  Money has no soul and neither do those who desperately pursue it.

Heres my take, (be warned that my view is stacked heavily on one side of the arguement :-D ) the bord have taken a look at how how Mike Ashley did it at Newcastle.  When the fans there got completely pissed of with Ashley the man bought himself time by putting the club on the market.  This appeased the fans but I don't beleive Ashley had any intention of selling at all. Two years have passed, they have won promotion and everything in the garden is F@cking rosey.  The Yanks will never get the money they are looking and will have to be pushed before they jump.  Until they are nudged Liverpool Lfc will be run like the American government.   The figure figure heads at the top will change whilst all the power remains behind the scenes. This way H&G still run things and broughton and Purslow get an easier ride because hey, they are in a no win position.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Are you mental or something or do you have issues digesting information? The mistakes were made during Rafa's era like the lies about what funds are available etc. Then these should not be repeated for Roy. Rafa unlike Roy did not have any real spine to the team and Roy has been left with very good spine plus he added 7 new players.

I have not said Roy should not be given a chance or a shot at the job. However, simple fact is that the minimum requirement is to finish 4th and at least have some hunger or spirit within the performances. If Roy is not showing signs of progress which Rafa did in his first year, then Roy will not be kept by new owners as they would have spend hundreds of millions not to let a lack of progress from Roy chuck their investment further down.

If new owners allow mediocracy to become their idea of excellence then yes they will be shot down as they would not have the correct mentality for LFC. Owners coming in should expect just like our fans to be challenging for top prizes. They commit to that buy providing funds for team building and choosing and sticking with a manager who can match those expectations. If they cannot do this then they are not right for this club.

  78. Well Jaimie, here is a very clear example of Purslow lying. On the Liverpool website last week Purslow said "Rafa's exit was about as clearcut a case of mutual consent as I have ever been involved in in my life." However in an interview with the Irish Independent here http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/liverpool-is-my-home-and-i-will-come-back-2362665.html Rafa states "I read that he said this -- I was preparing for the next season but after the meeting with Mr Broughton and Mr Purslow I realised that I had to accept the offer they made. I was very sad and my family were devastated when we realised after these meetings that we would leave. I knew I had to go." I suggest you read this article Jaimie it might clear up some of your ignorance about Rafa.

  79. Aquilani will cost £20 million over the length of his contract, its £5 million per year! Why does nobody get this. Whenever Aqualani played towards the end of last season he was decent then Roy decides to ship him out for another defensive midfielder!!

  80. Purslow must take full responsibility. He's the man who sacked Rafa, he's the man who said no to Kenny, he's the man who hired a manager who's won nothing of any note in his 35 years in the game. I don't want Hodgson in charge, never did. I won't blame him though. He got offered a once in a lifetime opportunity and let his vanity make the decision for him. What's happening now is testament to what happens at any club when figures from the business world such as Broughton and Purslow are given authority to make footballing decisions. Hodgson was right about one thing since he's been at the club and thats the amount of deadwood at it. Now he's a part of it himself. God must be a manc.

  81. Well I'm writing from canada having not seen the match today as it was not live on Canadian tv but I don't have to have seen the game to know how we played. Same old story lack of width, Johnson a liability, weak defending, no recognized quality LB and a lack of ideas and invention up front. None of these can be attributed to off field ownership problems, quite simply hodgson is the man for the job! He lacks passion tactics and ideas when plan A is not working. Given time he may challenge for 4th but not this season and not before he rips the heart out of our team. We are a top six side with our squad but RH won't get us there. There were better managers out there and we gave it to our 4th choice. Rafa is right, he left a decent side behind one that had wide players, abeit the area needed improvement. I wanted to see pellegrini or dalglish in the role and both would have cost nothing. This team should not be losing at home to the likes of Northampton and blackpool. If we get new owners and they have any sense they will replace RH and rescue our season.

  84. Btw jaime pls enlighten me more regarding Roy Hodgson (whether he deserve to have more time probably a season)
    - we lose to blackpool today (our defense is shocking during the 1st half, can u tell me why? I dont recall seeing such a poor defence for the past 28 yrs supporting liverpool, i think rafa did a much better job in defense than roy, what do u think? You dislike rafa isnt it? pls give me ur view)

    - Can you tell me why we become so sh.it over night? We used to have sound defense, lack of creativity in the final 3rd but now it seems we have problem all over the pitch, we were even 2nd 2 season ago but now we are 18th in the league

    - Why our defender like carra/agger/skrtel/johnson become so shit over night. I thought we used to be so proud of our defense?

    - I do believe we have the players to win Northampton or even Blackpool, why Roy cant win us in this game? Players Fault? I thought papers mentioned they are "happier" now under Roy.

    - Why every matches we are going through seems to be playing against Barca or even Real madrid? Players Fault? Manager Fault?

    - Why Roy complaint so much in the press regarding the owner in such a short time and did not received any flak but Rafa get condemn each time he did it?

The longer this season/Liverpools predicament continues to decline, the more it is going to show what a good job Rafa had done under unimaginably difficult conditions.  All the Rafa out mob so quick to jump on him after one very poor season should really be asking themselves a few questions in relation to their standpoint.

DerrickT also raises some very pertinent questions.  Lets see if we get any answers.  Ill change my name if so

  95. Any chance you could reword the title JK?

On its own it's hazy, to say the least, as to what it means.

"So, it’s Hodgson, Hicks, Gillett, Purslow, Broughton + Ayres OUT. How about FANS OUT instead?"

ie How about Fans out instead? Instead of the board & the yanks? You want to keep the board AND the owners? You don't want fans anymore (pinch of salt please, but you see what I mean)?

Surely the ideal situation would be to get rid of the owners and keep the fan-base?

Perhaps a more apt title for the piece would be something like- 'Are Campaigns against the Board undermining the club?'. The best titles, I was taught, give the reader in a nutshell no uncertainty about the subject or direction of the ensuing article.

I wouldn't normally bring this up but your ill-named title is blazened across NewsNow as we speak. Hope you don't take offence again to this constructive suggestion.

  103. Dude
I get what your saying but 6 points from 7 games, the team isnt playing well, they dont know what they are meant to be doing and we are playing a defensive minded player on the right wing.  Hodgson is clueless, he has no idea what he is doing at this club.
I have never publicly had a go at any of our coaches since ive been going to anfield, but today i had to, the shout of f off hodgson had to be done, he needs to go.. before its too late.. do we honestly want to get involved in a relegation battle? its shocking to think that we are.
Where was babel today??not even in the squad, its shocking treatment for a player considered one of the brightest prospects in world football.

LFC is going downhill, ill still support them and pay my money to go and watch them, but this is some seriously bad times..

The fans at todays game were more concerned with the march before the game and the sit in protest. i met a guy who was sittin near me in the main stand and all his questions were biased towards these two events, nothing to do with on the pitch.

this is the moment where we have to forget about ownership issues, that will get sorted out, in fact by the time we play everton on 17th october we could have a new owner if the date 15th october is anything to go by, or at least a point in the right direction.  I asked this guy and said that you cant blame the owners for being 2-0 down to blackpool, its not their fault, he said well indirectly it is. i told him to go sit down, he is blinkered!!! the players arent good enough, okay so the players we have bought are not good enough and that is linked to the owners, but they still have a responsibility to play to the best of their ability which none of them did.

I think we need to sell Torres, cash in on Gerrard whilst he still has a reputation, sell babel and kuyt, that will raise around £100million and then with that, go and buy 6/7 good quality players.

we need wingers urgently so Turan and Mata who have been banded about must be up there and perhaps a bid for Ashley Young too.

We then need two/three strikers who will play 35-40 games a season.  Dzeko is being linked, and i can only see him joining if torres was to join city.

You can slate this post all you like, but we need a new direction and a new focal point in the team because at the mo gerrrard is playing CB and torres is on the treatment table.

Oh yeah, carragher at left back, what the ?????

  104. If you bothered to read the article Jaimie which i'm sure you didn't...or anything about Benitez you would know despite what you think of his abilities as a football manager, there is no doubt whatsoever of the integrity of the man, his love for liverpool the city and the fans. He admits to his own failings and also goes into the other factors behind last seasons crappy performances. Christian Purslow is a businesman Jaimie - how do businesmen get ahead? by shafting people, stabbing people in the back and/or selling one's grandmother if neccessary!I know who I trust.

Another point id love to make is this..I remember you castigating rafa for signing the injured aquilani to replace alonso. What is also clear from this article is Rafa planned to sign Stevan Jovetic also (the same Stevan Jovetic who plays for fiorentina and scored twice against us in group stage of CL) but was then told there was no money!! But we don't blame the owners for that do we Jaimie no it was all RAFAS FAULT. Indeed.

I really would like you to think about how frustrating that must have been for Rafa, put yourself in his shoes. You sell one of your best players for 30mil and you say ok ill replace him with these two really good players, i know one of them is injured right now but im sure the other fella will do a good job in the meantime. Only then to be told theres no money available. Doesn't that completely and utterly fu+k your plans up for the season. Then to rub salt in the wounds the same player you couldn't sign helps knock your team out of the CL. Then people like you come out and blame him entirely! Then he ends up getting the sack - if you think it was mutual consent you are deluded!

  106. Jamie- Are you Purstrings, sorry I meant Purslow in disguise????? Or some relative to him??? Your opinions about him are as biased as those presented by EOTK - you appear to know him only too well -or are these just your OPINIONS like those OPINIONS posted by those people whoc write on the EOTK pages. Who the #### are you to judge???

  107. Jamie - Another thing have you ever watched our greta club? I have followed them for 40 years, yes since I was 8, across the WORLD - and like many of the other lifelong fans have the right to express and give opinion about the people who run our club - SHANKLY, would you know him, would be turning in his grave litening to some of the crap, being portrayed as support for our club - GET RID OF H&G, Broughton and Purslow and HODGSON - I know, I know, who will replace Hodgson  - even YOU could do a better job - but there are not many out there who could perform worse - and before you answer - HE has openly said that he was responsible for yesterday's result - Because he had no choice SACK HIM NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.

  108. Again Jamie - Your OPINIONS are only that OPINIONS - Fighting Fire with Fire does work in real life -ask Red Adare - the greatest fire fighter of all. Like him we have got to be brave - but I don't think this word is in your vocabulary,

  110. Why as Fans are we looking to blame the Board all the time the board do not stick a shirt on, get on the pitch and play a game for 90 mins we have 11 players on the field for that, they are the ones who get us the results. Purslow is a fan just like all of us why would he want to do so wrong infact wasnt he the one behind the new sponsorship deal that gives us 20 million a year comapared to the Last one that gave us something like 4 million a year. Let the man do his job. The Players are the ones that need to be questioned they are all good enough for this league and most play international football. As fans stop looking at the easy option to form an excuse and stop blaming the board.. All the players need to take a long hard look at themselves and have a think about what is happening and pull together. Not one player is playing at the level they can and that includes Gerrard, Torres etc.

The club needs our support more than ever get behind Hodgson and the Players and stop all this looking to blame culture. They know were not happy so thats enough and start supporting the club!!!!

We would all like a sugar daddy to come in and give us his billions but face facts that just aint going to happen we dont need the money to buy players we have the reputation of being Liverpool FC. Who wants players that will only come to a club because they will pay over the odds in wages.

  111. To be honest i agree with your thoughts on most things Jamie. I agree that a section of fans assist the media spin. For the last couple of years ive felt some fans actions in particular SOS have actualy made the hacks life easy to slag us off. I cant help but feel its like a witch hunt when it comes to SOS. I worry that some of the good fans are going to start following them being desperate just to do anything to help.. and it doesnt. Purslow in my opinion is the BEST man we have at the club. I dont feel i have to justify this statement as its obvious. Really obvious. Just look at how our club is financialy being driven now. Anyways onto you Jamie. I enjoy what you write as i feel we are on a similar wavelength the problem is its egging on the idiots and to really the less spoken about the the board the better at the moment. There really is too much being said its just adding to the hyperbowl.

  112. Jason, you have it spot on. The guy is not up to the job. Anyone can see that playing so many players out of position and not building partnerships on the pitch that will work is causing this club so much turmoil.

As for this site, you might as well join Talk Sport fella, for all the drivel you spout. You continually talk about facts but you are sparing in the use of them when criticising. So what if some fans have it in for all and sundry, thats life, thats football. You have no proof that any of them are doing a good job, anymore than they have an opposing view. One thing for sure and is pure fact, our current manager has had the worst start since 1953/54 when we last got relegated and after 7 games we have literally been played off the park in all of them.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Get your facts right fella. Yet another one to pin all things to SOS. If you look at the facts, SOS has not until now actively supported any of the protests you mention and if you take the time to investigate you will actually find that they as a group have being doing everything until now in a c<span>onciliatory manner. The one exception that I didn't agree with was the printing of the purslow minutes but other than that they have done everything correctly. If you look at the marches and protests that they have now commenced (having been given inside information about the likely refinance arrangements that mean we are stuck in our downward spiral) they execute it with full co-operation of the police and the club officials.</span>
    <span></span>
<span>So before you create a label, get your facts right and take time to read the site and SOS' overall objectives which are actually set around having a voice and keeping it affordable for the likes of you and me.</span>

  114. And you seemingly for your love of Purslow.

    ReplyDelete
  115. 1. I must have found a valid point if you start getting personal about this matter. Because everything you say to my comment has nothing to do with "facts" like you would say!
    2. You accuse me of believing everything Benites says! And on the other side you are doing exactly the same: For you every word of Benitez is a lie just because you don't like him... You know, Purslow lied many times now, so it is no wonder people do not believe him any more! Do you really believe no money from transfers was/is being used to pay off debts??? If you really mean Purslow never lied, than i can not help you anyway...
    3. I do not love Rafa, i just think he is a great manager and has more knowledge of football than our board or current manager! He was on our side, fought against the owners and cared about the city and their people, which was unvaluable asset! Of course he made mistakes but who doesn't? You can see clearly now that last season was not his fault alone!
    4. So if you take time to reply, talk about facts or make some valid points. I already know you do not like me and i do no care either. But you can always discuss matters with me if it is about "facts".

  116. Bringing in another permanent manager was a cock-up of the highest magnitude and cost us money we could not afford - on top of that given to Rafa. Bringing an in-house temp manager like Kenny with a contract until new oweners arrive would have saved millions that would have been available for transfers and galvanised the fans. Thats Christian Purslow's fault.
Broughton would not attend last years Liverpool Chelsea match, so he could cheer Chelsea on at home. How is a succesfull Liverpool in the interest of this Chelsea fan?

    ReplyDelete
  117. Purslow and Broughton appear to be taking their time, which can be construed in two different ways - they are biding their time and not really working hard enough to secure new owners or they are carefullly considering the options whilst also battling with the current muppets valuation of the club. I tend to believe the latter.

The problem they face is that the owners have set an unrealisitic valuation and the members of the board are trying to find a comprimise and also prevent a potential legal battle.

The other problem is potential owners are put off by ludicrous valuations bearing in mind it will cost potential over £1billion overall - £500-800(H&G valuation) club £300-400 stadium £100-200 player investment. Realistically potential investors are waiting on the forced hand which may arrive soon if RBS assume control and then sell on cheap.

The final problem is RBS don't really want to assume control of the club. One, as the possible docking of points and for the well being of the club. Two, banks do not see football clubs as reasonable investments for their shareholders. However, RBS must force them out even if it costs us points, we need investors and a new leash of life throughout the club.

Following the news of the two bids for the club and Hicks and Gilet trying to replace Purslow and Syres, people on here owe you a massive apology. They owe Purslow an even bigger apology.
