Amazing England hammer Slovenia in one of the World Cup's greatest ever performances!

In one of the most brilliant performances in the history of the World Cup, England's array of world class players easily dispatched Slovenia (population 2m) with a breathtaking masterclass of awe-inspiring attacking football, the quality of which surpassed even the magnificent World Cup-winning Brazil team of 1970. After such a mind-blowing, spectacular result, England must now be odds-on favourites to dominate the tournament and bring home the World Cup.

After two truly abject performances (admittedly against Algeria and the USA, two recognised giants of the international game), England had a point to prove, and prove it they did! Despite Slovenia's status as one of the toughest, skillful teams in world football, they were easily brushed aside by the staggering genius of Steven Gerrard, the imcomparable skill of Wayne Rooney, and the unmatched passing range of Frank Lampard.

Gerrard's prophecy that Rooney could 'make the world cup his own...like Pele and Maradona' started to come true as the Manchester United player dominated the game with an array of mind-boggling skills that Pele and Maradona could only dream about when they were in their prime.

Just consider the the magnitude of the achievement: England have beaten the amazing, previously unbeatable SLOVENIA, the smallest nation at the World Cup! Hard to believe, isn't it? How many teams can lay claim to such an achievement? And to finish 2nd in what is clearly a group of death is just...well, words fail me.

It is obvious that England are now the clear favourites to win the tournament. Forget the likes of Brazil, Argentina and Spain - England are in a different league, and with the world’s greatest players in Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry and Cole, it's theirs to lose.

After the game, Steven Gerrard - the most inspirational England captain in the history of the national team - summed up the mood in the England camp:

"We're not getting carried away, but we fear no one. Why should we? This is England. Beating Slovenia is a magic achievement, and the tournament is ours to lose now. The whole team is floating on air at the moment - Wazza was our Pele today, John was our Beckenbauer, and Frank was our Zidane, and as the tournament progresses, you will see our players surpass the greats of yesteryear and show that we are the greatest players ever to wear the England shirt".

Frank Lampard added:

"Stevie is the star of the World Cup so far; no one can touch him. He's world class, and you saw that today as he dominated the game like no player has ever dominated a game before. I was just privileged to be on the same pitch as him to be honest".

John Terry continued:

"The lads have had a really tough time being pampered over the last week. It has been unbearable - I mean, having so many lackys at our beck and call just gets tiring after a while. We just wanted to get out there and show the world how good we are. I don't think people really appreciate how hard it is to beat Slovenia 1-0. How many teams manage to score a goal against them? The fact that we scored proves that we're the best team in the tournament by far. We deserve this trophy, and we will win it. Football's coming home".

All across England, drunken fans were 'celebrating' in the streets, barely able to conceal their joy at the sheer enormity of England's achievement. The mood of the fans was matched by the British press, who lauded the Three Lions with typically understated headlines such as:

"England on the verge of winning the World Cup!" The Mirror

"Brilliant England show the world how football SHOULD be played!" The Daily Star

"Forget Argentina and Brazil - England are the true stars of the World Cup!" The Daily Mail

Prime Minister David Cameron called a halt to Parliamentary business for the day and decreed that the 23rd of June would henceforth become a national holiday to commemorate England's unforgettable achievement. Wiping tears of joy from his eyes, a clearly awed Mr Cameron observed:

"I can honestly say, without hyperbole, that England put in the finest performance I have ever witnessed by any football team anywhere. Today is a proud day for England".

  4. Unecessary article as noone really is getting carried away. You're just being arsey for arsey sake. Why are you having a sly dig at Gerrard? Nobody has said he has been the best player, although apart from Algeria he has actually played well. Anyway, he's a Liverpool player so why not get behind him. I love when Liv players play well for Eng. That way we don't get blamed wehn things inevitably goes wrong.

  8. England lack creative players, they just lack skill. They are an ugly side to watch compared to Spain, Brazil or Argentina.

I don't see them going very far with the players they have. A lot of big reputations but not enough big performances.

  9. Similar to Liverpool on last day of season; all England had to do to qualify was score and not concede, all Liverpool had to do to avoid a Europa Lge qualifier was score and not concede.  One team got their shit together and managed it; the other didn't. One team manged to cheer me up slightly with the result, one team failed.

  11. Jaimie, do you simply lack the ability to be positive? for christ's sake, can't you see the difference from today and the last game? for once give credit where it's due and applaude the lads for going out there and doing exactly what they needed to....

  14. Now that's funny Jamie, although I have an awful feeling England could fluke their way to the final. Think about how awful hat would be, Rooney this that and everything, Lampard this that and everything, Gerrard (yes the guy who salked round being Stevie me not stevie G this past season) being this that and everything. Please someone put them out, then we can get back to focusing on what matters Liverpool FC.

  15. It's not a positive or negative thing: it's irony; sending up the way England players (and the media) big themselves up all the time despite poor performances and not winning anything since 1966. After the game, Gerrard was at it again, saying that England can beat anyone.  This despite the two horrible performances prior to Slovenia.

They just don't get it: England need to show more humility.  They need to STFU, concentrate and let their football do the talking.

Listening to the BBC's commentator after the game was sickening - he acted like the World Cup had already been won.

You just do not see this kind of rampant egotism with any other national team, even those that deserve to be confident (i.e, Brazil, Argentina etc).

It's a sickness that affects Liverpool aswell, with players constantly massaging each others' egos publicly.  It makes me sick, hence the article.

  18. God, if England actually won the World Cup, we would never hear the end of it.  The level of egotism and boasting would be at incredible levels.  The English press would lionise the players to a ridiculous degree, and we'd ultimately be faced with the prospect of the likes of Rooney, Gerrard and Terry being knighted.  It would be unbearable.

I have a new website in the works anyway: ModernFootballSucks.com (or something along those lines), where I'll just be criticising the shallowness, greed and superficial excesses of the modern game.  I'll have plenty to write about ;)

England getting through to the next round makes me happy.  The further they get the larger the backlash when they eventually lose.  Who will be the scapegoat this year I wonder?  Right now, Rob Green must be the happiest man alive 8-)

  27. Funny thing is that it's all true. Put England up against a top team like Spain, Argentina or Brazil and then we'll see how they fare. They have good players but they only shine in the premiership and struggle against average if not poor teams on the world stage. There's too much hype and focus on Englands world cup chances on every match coverage and in the media in general and this distinct lack of modesty will ultimately come back to haunt them when they're played of the park by a good team and knocked out of the tournament. I've got a feeling that this will happen sooner rather than later.

Personally the world cup is a welcome distraction from the wait to see how long hicks/gillet suck the club dry :( most of my life Liverpool have not been as succesfull as yesteryear but I can safely say I've never been THIS DEPRESSED. with these jokers holding out I just can't see how things will ever get better...
So for the moment cmon England!

  34. The words 'fish' and 'barrel' instantly come to mind.

Incidentally, you slag off the players by saying: 'Do your talking on the pitch' which they did in beating Slovenia.
But then, in the very next sentence, you write: <span>'The BBC's commentator after the game was sickening - he acted like the World Cup had already been won.'</span>
What the guy on the BBC says has nothing to do with the players!

Another weak, scatter-gun article that somehow amazingly fails to hit any real target!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Incidentally... actual quotes from the players post-match:

Lampard: ‘This performance gives us a lot to build on. You’ve seen it many times before that teams start a bit cagey and then come good. We have to follow that model and try to keep improving with every game.’

Gerrard: “We must go again on Sunday. All games are difficult but it’s about us now. If we turn up and play close to our potential we’re a
match for anyone. We need to do that all the time. To get to the latter stages of the tournaments you need to find that consistency. If we perform like we did against Algeria I don’t think we’ll get another chance.”

Pretty balanced I'd say and as far away from 'triumphalism' as you could get.

You love to criticise others for ignoring the true facts, but don't let things like that get in the way of your own little ironic-but-wildly-flawed think-piece!

  36. LOVE IT KANWAR! at last someone see's england for what they really are - average.

  37. A well written piece Jamie......made me laugh, so well done!

Having read the responses above, I think it's fair to say that should by some 'miraculous' chance England go all the way, they'll deserve all the plaudits they get. Should they beat Germany, then it's extremely likely Argentina will be their QF opponents. If they got beyond that stage, then there's the prospect of facing Brazil in the SF and quite possibly Spain in the final (I believe?).........Well, I clearly remember (as I'm sure we ALL do) how our own team progressed in a not too disimilar fashion in the CL 5yrs ago.....We were never the best team in Europe and only made it into the CL courtesy of the newly appointed 4th place attributed to the Prem the beginning of that season. Irrespective of our own 'miracles' qualifying into the last 16 and of course the final itself, we ultimately deserved winning the CL. We had to beat that season's Scudetta champions, Prem champions and in the final the team who were favourites from the outset to win the CL that season..........But surely you can't honestly believe even after we won the CL we were the best team in Europe - as winning the CL would suggest - but I believe we were the best team in the competition.......So why deny England that credit should they emulate our own success?

If 20 odd players receive hero status in return for 50/60million people feeling a sense of excitement and pride - not something seen too often these days - then I believe that's got to be worth it. Furthermore, LFC have had a crap season so at least it's something to keep our minds off our own current troubles for a few weeks + the sun is shining, so let's all enjoy the summer.........we may not get another for a while!

  45. Totally agree with your article very true. A very ordinary performance, and not for some desperate defending at the end against what can be only described as a pub team it would have all ended in tears.

  49. Jaimie here said it was irony the way the players were bigging themselves up. the poster two above proved this to be complete crap. Saying England 'can beat anyone' is true - it isnt saying 'were going to piss all over brazil' real madrid style, it is just fighting their corner. Considering this makes you sick, Shankley must have put you in hospital. And yes, other countries do do it.

    '
"I think he's there. I believe he has broken the mould and is ready, let's end the comparisons," he said.
"Leo is ready to go on to a pitch and leave it [World Cup] with the crown."

  50. It's not just about one game - it's England's behaviour during the entire 'Golden Generation' era.  And it's not just the players; it's everyone: the media, fans, managers etc.  Everyone connected with England lacks humility; the arrogance of the players is continually sickening.  For example, Steven Gerrard patronising Algeria by suggesting the game vs the might England was 'their cup final', the idea being that England are such an amazing team that the lowly algeria were lucky to play against them.

    England deserve everything they get.

  52. Its Amazing the difference in analysis between the bbc and the irish station RTE when the experts are reviewing englands performance. here are a few snippets from the post match analysis's -
<p>Hansen: “Once England got the goal the confidence levels surged, they were excellent.”
</p><p>Eamon Dunphy: “They just didn’t grow in confidence at all after the goal.”
</p><p>Lineker: “The goal really settled them, didn’t it? They pushed on from there.”
</p><p>Ronnie Whelan: “You’d think they’d have kicked on from when they scored, but they actually got worse.”
</p><p>Roy: “England’s crossing has been absolutely outstanding.”
</p><p>Giles: “Some of the crossing was just awful.”
</p><p>Shearer: “Rooney looks more confident, he’s getting around the pitch a lot better.”
</p><p>Dunphy: “It’s shocking to see Rooney so subdued, he’s been reduced to a shivering wreck.”
</p><p>Shearer: “They look much more comfortable on the ball, they’re passing it with a purpose, with pace, they’re closing down – a much better performance, it’s encouraging.”
</p><p>Giles: “They’re much better than they have been, but they couldn’t have been worse.”
</p><p>No arguments, then. Second half. England held on. Full-time. Ready?
    </p><p>Lee Dixon: “A great performance.”
    </p><p>Dunphy: “Shocking . . . absolutely incredibly bad . . . pretty awful stuff.”
</p><p>Hansen: “The commitment was there, the spirit was there, the enterprise was there, the creativity was there, they passed it better – they could have scored five or six quite easily. Capello will obviously be delighted with the performance.”
</p><p>Giles: “If that’s the shackles off what’ll they be like when the shackles are back on?”
</p><p>’Arry Redknapp: “We played with pace, we got after them, we pressed them, there wasn’t a weakness in the team.”
    </p><p>Dunphy: “They were astonishingly poor.”
</p><p>Lineker: “He looked more like the Rooney we know.”
</p><p>Ronnie: “Rooney is a major worry, his form, his body language, his demeanour, everything.”
    </p><p>Dixon: “Gerrard was outstanding.”
</p><p>Dunphy: “I can’t believe how bad Gerrard was today.”
</p><p>’Arry: “Across midfield we were top drawer.”
</p><p>Giles: “Barry got worse as the game went on, Milner, Gerrard and Lampard the same.”
</p><p>’Arry: “Bring it on! Whoever we play we’ll be difficult to beat.”
</p><p>Ronnie: “If they don’t improve they’ll go straight out, it was a very, very inept performance.”</p>

  54. What Algeria manager <span>Rabah Saadane said before the game:</span>
<span><span>"We are the minnows in the group... we will learn things when we play against England, we will see what we are capable of, what is our level.</span></span>
<span><span></span>"England is one of the biggest teams in the tournament. My players will not need any other motivation than they are playing against England. If my team plays against Brazil or England it is a big motivation for them."</span>

So if Gerrard says Algeria are the minnows he is being disrespectful... even though their manager said it himself?!

Personally I wish more players came out before games and said: "You know what, we are better than the other team and if we don't beat them it will be embarrassing."
Walk the walk and then go out and talk the talk and if you don't get the result then you do deserve to be slaughtered.

So by all means slag England off for the woeful 0-0 draw against Algeria, but it's ridiculous to suggest any Three Lion player should not have been sounding confident before that game.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Maradonna, Pele, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Evra, Man United, Ferguson, France. Why havent you done any topics about their supposed arrogance?

Moreover, you are being hypocritical. In your ironic article you are implying that England shouldve beaten Slovenia more then 1-0, and attacking the press and fans for celebrating it. That is tremendously arrogant to a team that drew with the USA (who are a good team, as they proved in the confeds) and beat Russia in the playoffs.Yet you have just said that England were disrespecting Algeria.

Your stance is rife with contradictions.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think England should just be thankful they're still in the tournament considering they've been piss poor in ALL 3 games. Beating Slovenia 1-0 is nothing to get optimistic about just gives the players some time to get it sorted cos another poor performance will see them go home. From our own point of view Johnsons form has been one of the few pluses for England.

To me Terry is not yet got his paired. A. Cole needs to improve we know he is the world best. Rooney is shoking us, poorest?
Gerrard is best in all aspects followed by Jonson. I love England or Argentina to collect the  cup in that order. We fedup of Brazil with Agly match, after their best team in the 1990s.

    ReplyDelete
  60. here here jo, you should never have to explain irony or satire, if you dont get it for what it is u will never understand it, im a massive england supporter, liverpool fan too, but i can see the point jamie is getting at, everytime gerrard scored a goal last season (for example) 3 or 4 players came out saying hes the best in the world etc etc....the press are the worst at this, if we lose its the end of capello and englands reputation down the drain end of the world stuff, but if we win a game (and i have friends telling me in london this was the case) there were fans singing we're gonna win the cup......granted we played better than in the previous 2 matches, but at our current standard we aint good enough to win anything but we can get better....the question is will we

    ReplyDelete
  61. So it's not O.K for England players to say that we should beat Algeria but O.K for you to write a piece full of irony making out that it was a poor performance only beating Slovenia 1-0?

The fact is if you read the papers from the majority of the biggest footballing countries you'd hear them talking up their chances and just like we do in this country, it's no different. The only difference is we're massivly more exposed to our own players.

Are you suggesting that if Brazil, Spain or Holland didn't beat Algeria then their wouldn't be an inquest?

I think their is a general problem with football across the world and to single out the England players is unfair. What do you think of the Kaiser's recent comments about England?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I agree, the further they get the more tv stations and newspapers are full of shit.  Wake up people, your lucky to get out of the group.

    ReplyDelete
  63. we cant really comment on inquests etc from other countries cos we dont read the papers and stuff in other countries, and we rarely speak to the fans from other countries, the fans and press in this country are either "oh my god what a disaster" or "woo-hoo were gonna win the whole thing" there is rarely the middle "we played ok its summat to build on lets go from here" ground, its either amazing or shocking

the kaiser made a fair comment about our players being tired, we play more games than most other countries league wise, 2 national cup comps, and you can argue quaity wise but its certainly the fastest paced and intense league there is

    ReplyDelete
  64. An article that sums up all my thoughts, nice one JK. The newspaper headlines gave me the impression that it was as if England had just won the world cup. Although I do support England, just wait until we get knocked out in the semis and a national disaster and fallout will follow suit. Main reason? Overhyped and overinflated expectations imho. Reminds me of how the LFC players used to talk the talk before games last season but never walked the talk. That said, COME ON ENGLANDDDDDDDD

    ReplyDelete
  65. Little bit off topic here but I was just wondering why nobody is talking about picking up Erikson for the Liverpool job now that he's finished with the World Cup. I seem to recall hearing him say he was a Liverpool fan once so...is there some reason his name is not mentioned much? Did he reject the idea already? I can't find any news on it...

I could talk about his acheivements in the past to promote the idea but I think its not necessary. We should all know he is top quality.

  66. Jamie your irony is absolutely spot on, first stood on the Kop in 1959 - seen all the good times and the not so good, recently seen my team taken apart by the worst manager in our history ( you know who I mean ), and the worst Chief Exec any club has ever had  - and now just watched the same overpaid prima donnas show a total lack of football skills and fitness and a manager whose stubbornness and lack of tactical know how beggars belief, although we've had the same for 6 years - the scary thing is there are rumours he may be our next manager - if he is I may have to change my sons name ( Shankly ), although that might be difficult as he's 36 now.

Couldn't agree more.  I just don't get why Gerrard comes out and "issues warnings" to teams either as an England player or as a Liverpool player.  STFU and play the damn game.  Do your talking on the pitch!

This article is great and your right.  For a team that has won jack and s@#t in the last 44 years England talk WAY to much, and the same goes for LFC.  I don't care who leaves this summer, I want players who will bleed for the team and will STFU and bleed for the team!

An interesting bit of news has been uncovered regarding Tom Hicks and his use of alleged supporter blogs (who have been uncovered as paid stooges) to criticise other aspects of Texas Rangers therefore diverting attention from his ownership.

Jamison “Jamey” Newberg, who operates a popular website, The Newberg Report, was paid $27,125 by team Hicks from February through April, according to the court document filed late Monday.

Newberg said the payments likely were for books he sold the club. And while he received no money for his blog, the Rangers did finance his family’s trip to spring training in Surprise, Ariz.

This was taken from a newspaper article released over the last few days which has been following the bankruptcy case of the Texas Rangers.

Newberg has thus far been unable to provide PROOF that these payments were for "books he sold the Club" and his site contains NO disclaimer regarding payments directly from Hicks or his associated businesses.

Do you have any comments to add Jaimie? I've visited Newberg's site and it's alarmingly similar to your own style of diversionary writing.

It would appear according to OFFICIAL court documentation that paid stooges do indeed exist within Hicks fairground PR spin, and he has used them (as this case proves) to divert attention from his own failings, shifting blame to other areas including the management, players etc.

  71. Do I have any comments?  Yes:

Your implication is complete and utter bollocks.

I'm not even going to dignify it with further answer.

If you post anything else implying/suggesting such nonsense I will permanently ban you from posting on this site.

If you knew the slightest thing about Severs, IPs etc you'd know that with your basic site and it's operational programing by simply rebooting ones own server/router I can post again under a different name and a different registered IP as I've done countless times before. But please, you crack on son!

I notice you have no disclaimer relating to "paid" work for your site, strange that. The odd thing is you'd be legally bound by such a disclaimer, so you could easily prove yourself to be completely objective and not a stooge by having such a disclaimer - yet you choose not to.

You've been unearthed Jaimie, this news article is ALL over the Net and YOU have been sounded out as a possible and probable "Newberg", whatever shred of credibility you held with some of the deluded idiots that post here may have now disappeared.

Now, you run along and ban me, and in the morning when I can be arsed to reboot my system I'll drop by as someone else. HAHA.

  75. Quiet here now that Rafa has gone? No-one to rail against anymore?

You must be crying on to your Sky remote with the overlooking of Martin (greatest-coach-in-the-history-of-world-football-despite-never-having-actually-'really'-done-anything-of-note) O'Neill.

So. When does the Hodgson bashing begin then Jaimie?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Where to start...!!? This tourn was a mess from the start, with Terrys problems, the media wrongly naming rooney as our 'saviour' and a complete lack of decisiveness by the manager for any real favourite formation-which, in itself creates a huge vast in tactics. Plus, only telling the players 2 hrs b4 KO was stupid. Why oh why did we not play any wide men against ze Germans? Heskey for Defoe? NO CROUCH? Gerrard out left? NO james from the start? Rooney sitting deep? i thought Capello was more shrued tbh, and as for the players performances....not even going to go there!!!! gutted!!

  77. I am really looking forward to this season, we have made an excellent appointment in Hodgson. Senior playres & Dalglish have given thumbs up to Roy.

There is alot of media rubbish about Torres and his future at LFC and I believe that we will still see him in the red shirt come the start of this season.

  79. Liverpool are becoming a joke.  The chief exec is trying to play football manager by offloading players.

And why are we being linked with James Beattie? Absolutely pathetic.

I see now why they wanted Rafa out.

  80. How odd that a huge Liverpool fan such as yourself Jaimie has chosen not to write any articles relating to Hodgson, our sale process or any transfer issues relating to the Club. It's almost as if your intrest in LFC ended with the sacking of Benitez, how strange...

  81. I only write when I feel compelled to write, and right now, nothing is happening that I feel the need to write about.

I'm not interested in writing about the endless transfer rumour merry go-round - such stories are just cheap attempts for hits, and I have better things to do.

I support the appointment of Roy Hodgson - nothing to say there.

Anyway, the main reason I haven't written about anything is that I'm struggling to stay interested in football in general.  Anyone who has read my site for a few years will know how much I despise modern football - the world cup proved once again that the modern game is populated with overpaid cheats, and I find myself enjoying the game less and less.

Maybe that will change once the new season starts.

  83. There's always cricket?

I thought the World Cup wasn't too bad to be honest, England were woeful but that's to be expected. I thought the standard of football on show especially from the "lesser" South American teams was excellent.

You will always have cheats in any contact sport, that's the way it is. It's no different in Rugby, remember "bloodgate"? The only reason rugby players don't cheat is because it's pointless, feigning injury just results in them being stretchered off the field and a video replay will show if there was contact!

So as a Scotsman you felt "compelled" to write about England's performance against Slovenia and you felt in neccessary to mock even our own (LFC) Captain? Hmm, I'm not so sure, I think as a Scotsman you couldn't wait to stick the boot in on England!

If you've become disallusioned with football, why not close down your site?

Look at how many doors have opened since Rafa left and how much good news is now surrounding the club instead of doom and gloom. In LFC I Trust, I can only see good times ahead.

  104. You stop writing after Rafa was sacked. The articles you wrote regarding Liverpool is not in bad financial as what we all think is wrong. I am beginning to wonder if you have a hidden agenda

    ReplyDelete
  105. Hi Derrick

I am going to jump to Jaimie's defence here, why would he have a hidden agenda about Rafa when he truly believed it was right for him to be shown the door? Myself and many others also believed the same. It doesnt mean that Jamie had a problem with Rafa as a PERSON.

Derrick, would you be posotive about something you do not believe in? So does that mean that the everybody is going to have the same mindset as you? Plain and simple no.

Everybody has the right to opinion and if Jaimie who created this site (which you visit) and had a problem with Rafa as our MANAGER and wrote time after time about him not being the right MANAGER for LFC then so be it. What is wrong with that? Isn't that called opinion and it is a plain and simple fact that there are people that will agree with what he writes and there are people who will disagree. Same as there are people who will agree and disagree with what you have to say when you visit his site.

Derrick, what would you have to say about people who visit his site and write things as follows:

<span><span>Kunt-War</span><img></img></span> says:20 July 2010, 11:06:13 AM<span><span>“</span></span>Jaime always the "Kunt"war.....clearly he's a Man Utd fan. His job is done now since Rafa's gone...all the best to you supporting the mancsCertian people have a hidden agenda against Jaimie because Rafa is now at Inter. Who asked Rafa to leave? Wasn't it LFC? Does that mean that Jaimie had a say in Rafa being shown the door?   It is all a matter of sour grapes telling Jaimie he has a hidden agenda against Rafa and it isnt the first tiime he has taken a break from writing articles on his site.Oh and about the finances, who gives a shit at the moment about that. Not even the Media seem to be making as much fuss about it any more. The club will be sold and the debt (whatever amount it may be) will be cleared once a proper buyer comes around. Until then LFC will carry on as normal and what is important is that the team improves on the DISASTER that we saw last season. Whoever thinks we are in danger of becoming the next Portsmouth is just being ridiculous. Finances Finances blah blah blah...Jaimie this Jaimie that, get over yourselves...

    ReplyDelete
  106. Absolutely gutted after last night but lets face it, City are going to be very difficult to beat at home this season. I was hoping that Roy would start with Babel instead of Ngog. IMO he just is not good enough yet and Babel when he came on just showed incredible pace and almost scored and I am glad to see that Roy has given him a chance to play upfront. Also despite the hiding we received, 4-4-2 away from home is looking posotive for a change.

If reports are true regarding Masch refusing to play then he should be demoted to the reserves and if Barca dont meet the valuation then Masch can rot till his contract is up.

Lets hope Torres finds his best form soon, maybe we will still see some new players before the window shuts. We need natural pace down the wings, that is were we are struggeling. Our next two EPL games are must wins. Roy has got one hell of a task ahead of him but I have no doubt that he will improve on last season. Come on Roy and the team, show us what you are made of!!!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Max,
Seems like you're very happy despite the bashing from City and all is positive. Perhaps you were watching a repeat of last year's fixture I think. Cmon, we were battled by them. And you can still say that 442 was a positive change. It was suicide.....our midfields were "bullied" by Toure, De Jong and Barry.....having 2 very similar attackers up front didn't help my friend. 442 is a formation that we've not played in for many years and choosing it against a team like City away from home is baffling...Please do not get me wrong, I like Roy and it is too early to judge him and he deserves time.
But let's talk on footballing reasons here. What you mentioned in your post was not backed up by facts. I remember you're the one who slated Rafa for his tactical inadequacy last season. Let's look at Roy. He took 78 mins to make the 1st change and throughout, he looked clueless and hoping that match could change by itself. Clearly Jovanovic was nowhere in the match and should have been substituted much earlier.
Looks like if we lose nowadays, it is because the opponent is good (btw, City was very difficult to be beaten at home last season too) and nothing to do with the tactics of the manager or performance by the players. Please check the game stats again and see the % possession and number of shots at all, my friend.

I'm just sickened by the double standards shown.

    ReplyDelete
  108. When's JK going to write another article? I mean there is tons of material. Petulant Masch going to Barca; No clear cut buyer coming in for our club; 4 straight European wins to open Hodge Podge's career at Anfield (first to do so since Shakly).  Come on JK where's the reporting?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Tom

This was only the second game in the EPL. We only took 1 point from the Arsenal game so maybe Roy wanted to go there to win instead of just taking another point which Rafa would have done. That is what I meant with being positive. Like I said, I was gutted after the game. What would you have said if we won the game playing 4-4-2? Would that also be suicide?

To say that Ngog & Torres are very similar doesnt make sense to me??? Can you explain where they are similar? Remember to back up what you say with FACTS...

Another thing, Torres doesnt look like the same player after all his injuries but he needs to get plenty of game time and I doubt Roy will play him as a loan striker at the moment cause all we need is for him to pick up another injury. Maybe that is why he played 2 upfront. There is no way Ngog would have managed on his own either.

"What you mentioned in your post was not backed up by facts."What the hell are you on about? Isnt this site about opinion and where do i have to back up anything in my post on 3 days ago, 08:32:36 AM with facts. Please could you explaint what I need to back up in my post 3 days ago, 08:32:36 AM with facts?I am under no circumstances going to critisise Roy for his formations and his tactics and and and when he hasnt even been at the club for 2 months so there is no point in even comparing stats for Rafa vs Roy which you have done.Double standards? You are already trying to compare Rafa and Roy two games into his first EPL season???

We have had two games in the EPL so far and you already are saying things like "Looks like if we lose nowadays, it is because the opponent is good"
"and nothing to do with the tactics of the manager or performance by the players."Double standard... YNWA... Tom...

  111. Hi Polo
SITE UPDATE - 4 August 2010Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone who keeps visiting the site in my absence. I apologise for the lack of recent posts - the truth is I'm struggling build up the motivation to post anything. This has nothing to do with LFC and everything to do with my dwindling love of football.

As regular readers know, I despise many aspects of modern football, especially the greed, cheating and shallowness of many top-flight footballers. Indeed, I have little respect for the overpaid, money-grabbing mercenaries masquerading as 'footballers', which the makes it hard for me to justify wasting my time writing about them.

This will, of course, delight my many detractors :) Having said that, I'm sure I will return occasionally to offer my humble view on things. I have complete faith in Roy Hodgson, and as I've argued in the past, the future is bright for LFC. The overwrought doom-mongers who were foaming at the mouth arguing that the club was facing the apocalypse are looking pretty stupid right about now.

    All the best,
    JK

  112. There's only one stat that counts max and thats the 3-0.

I notice how you and Jaime aren't mentioning anything about our wonderful owners having made yet another profit in the latest transfer window.

The has been no investment in the playing squad for almost 2 years.

We are in a shocking state. All is not rosy. Far from it.

If we qualify for the Europa this season I will regard that as success.

  113. Mark...

3-0 was not the point, Tom said and I quote
"Please check the game stats again and see the % possession and number of shots at all, my friend." Which is exactly what I did, the reason for me posting it on the site...Tom commented on our shots at goal but we had more than City on and off and tbh our stats do not look that bad...Where did LFC make a profit in this Transfer window? Can you please provide us with PROOF to sustain your argument? If we are in such "a shocking state", how was Roy able to sign players? If we are in such "a shocking state" would we have been able to sign a Portugese International. If we are in such "a shocking state" would Joe Cole have joined LFC?Would Torres have stayed on if we were in such "a shocking state" and surely LFC would have sold him seeing that we are in "a shocking state"?Would Stevie have stayed on if we were in such "a shocking state" and surely LFC would have sold him seeing that we are in "a shocking state"?In actual fact, would any player have wanted to join LFC this transfer window if the club is in such "a shocking state"?If we are in such "a shocking state", how was LFC able to pay out Rafa when he left?If we are in such "a shocking state", why has RBS not stepped up already to let hell freeze over Anfield? Are we the only club in the EPL with debt and how does or debt compare to that of Manu and the others? If LFC are in such "a shocking state", why has the FA not done anything about it?Please Mark, explain why things arent so rosy. Oh wait, I read that Javier M is going to spill his guts sooner or later about lies made to him by LFC. Hold on to your seats everybody, Javier Mascherano will soon reveal why things arent rosy at LFC.Long live Roy Hodgson, at least we arent hearing the same thing over and over again. At least we have a manager now that talks sense instead of repeating himself over and over and over... again...

  114. Max, debating with you is like debating with a child.

    monotonous and pointless.

I'm not wasting time answering all your silly points. If you had half a brain you'd actually be able work out the answers to your own questions.

    http://www.transferleague.co.uk/premiership-transfers/liverpool-transfers.html

Although the figures probably aren't 100% accurate I imagine they aren't far off.

Also not included in that is the money we had paid to get rid of one manager and the money we had to pay to buy another one of of his contract.

You are the most delusional of the delusional.

If we weren't is a shocking state the the banks wouldn't be controlling the sale process of our club and we wouldn't be asset stripping to pay debt that should be there.

Its your very acceptance that debt is a norm and ok just because there are some worse of that us that grate. We should have NO debt.

Max, Ive said it before and I'll say it again.

    WAKE UP.

  115. Jaimie

It is f****** pointless with you writing any articles at the moment because you will still have people telling you that our club is "in a shocking state" no matter what subject you put forward. You for an example will write that the club has been sold but they will still argue that LFC is "in a shocking state" or that Roy Hodgson is a breath of fresh air and they will tell you to stop being negative towards Rafa...

Wake up everyone, Rafa is gone. The club will move forward now that the Politician (Rafa) is no longer dictating at LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Max, are you Jaime's lapdog or something? Stop looking to him for assurance. Do you have no self esteem?

And for the record, I am not moaning about Rafa going. But that doesn't mean we are in a better position.

Do you have any idea about the debt we are in and how the financial penalites are racking up?

Rafa is not important, the manager is not important.

The ownership of the club is important and that shows no signs of being sorted which means we fall further and further into debt which will become out of control.

    Wake up you foolish man.

  117. Hi Mark

Tell you what, you can keep on predicting doom and gloom for our club and I will support the team on the football pitch and leave it to the board to take care of the sale of the club WHICH THEY ARE DOING and not say things like "If we qualify for the Europa this season I will regard that as success." because that is what I would have said if Rafa was still here...

And I am not asking for Jaimie's assurance, I am pointing out that it is pointless for him to write anything at the moment because people like you will still tell him that he is a Manu fan regarding his views about LFC.

What happens on the pitch at the moment is far more important then anything else. Where is moaning about our finances over and over again going to get you Mark? What would you like to do about it? What can you do about it? We have debt, so does every other f****** club inb the EPL.

So Mark, seeing that you know so much about our finances and claim that our club is in "a shocking state" why dont you put your money where your mouth is and predict when LFC are going to become insolvent. What a f****** joke...

You know what I am going to do? Whatch what a great season we will have under Roy Hodgson (Someone who makes sense) and leave the dirty work to the board as I am sure they will find the right buyer.

Otherwise lets rush the sale process and let some more cowboys take over the club. That way people like you can still keep on moaning... :-D

  118. Max you are being a nob sort your head out !!!

    ReplyDelete
  119. So when we only qualify for the Europa League I assume you'll be calling for the managers head then max?

    You so fickle its embarrassing.

Broughton has been conducting a sale of the club since march when he came on board. Hardly pulling up any trees is he?!

Additionally, I have never accused Jaime of being a man u fan as its not something that interests me. although he would have to be a bit of warped man u fan to have a liverpool blog and write about liverpool dont you reckon?

Not every other club has debt max, Tottenham are one example. and the clubs who have debt that is manageable are successful and the clubs that have debt that isn't become Leeds United.

Ive never said the sale process needs to be rushed. I agree it has to be the right buyer but time is ticking and there are financial penalties that kick in now at regular intervals until the debt is paid off which makes the sale paramount. What it also does is make the club cost more money. So unfortunately mate, time isn't on our side. Although I would have thought you could have worked that out using your superior intellect and researching skills.

I had to laugh at the doom and gloom comment scene as you, as one of the main protagonists was exactly that throughout the whole of last season.

    Pot Kettle.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Additionally I have never stated we are going to become insolvent but currently we are crippled by debt and unable to invest in the playing squad without selling players first as has been shown by the in/outs over the last 2 seasons.

I'm not doom and gloom max but we wont compete at the top level the longer we remain in the situation.

Some of your comments are surely jokes or wind ups!?!

    ReplyDelete
  121. This is so pointless...

I have said before that I will give our replacement as much time as what Rafa has had so you making comments about me calling for Hodgson's head has just been thrown out of the window...

You obviously have great expectations this season for LFC saying things like "If we qualify for the Europa this season I will regard that as success." Now that is embarrassing... Lets wait till end of season...

Why dont you do yourself a favour and phone Broughton and piss and moan to him why we do not have new owners yet? It is getting a bit painfull now. I am sure he will be able to give you all the relevant info...

Not every club has debt? Really. Spurs are one example? Please get us the proof of that. Seeing is believing... While you at it, get every other clubs debt level and make a comparrison for everyone to see and show us your "superior intellect and researching skills." Cant wait!!!

Me doom and gloom? Are you refering to the way I wanted Rafa out or maybe you can quote something else that I might have said referring to doom and gloom?

Sell to buy, in/outs, the debt of the club blah blah blah...

Come on Roy and the team, please prove everyone wrong who make statements like "If we qualify for the Europa this season I will regard that as success." and put their negative insight 2 months into the season to bed come the end of this season.

  127. Mark07968, I'm with you on this.
As genuine fans, we talk about reality and actual situation whereas people like Max are living in their own perfect world.

Max is beyond "repaired" and "educated". No point debating as he will continue to move goalposts to suit his agenda and arguments (oops, if he really has one). All that he blurted are so called opinions without proper analyses and I've never seen anyone so happy in my entire life after we lost 3-0! Kudos, Max.
And even mentioning that 4-4-2 is positive....i almost died laughing reading that. We haven't played in that formation for so many years and it was suicical. And why waited till 78 mins to make the first change? This is about debating on what happened on the pitch and tactics and not a personal attack on Roy. I think both Mark07968 and I are matured enough to differentiate that.

Let's talk on the West Brom game now. Good 3 points nevertheless. But the performance??? It was awful and we clearly lacked everything! We're talking about a team just promoted and had never scored against us in the previous 8-9 games and was just being hammered by Chelsea 6-0. Now Max, please pull the stats for this game and spend some time looking at them.

No point talking as allwe know is that you're just a 12 year old girl behind a PC pretending to know about our club....

  128. "As genuine fans" Tommy boy... Tisk tisk...

  129. Why Max? Finally come to senses when you found out bout the stats and what's happening on the pitch?

Good for you. It's n ever too late.

  130. It is ironic that this site is no longer really active since Rafa left.  This site was basically a witch hunt to get rid of a manager with the largest win % of any manager since Kenny.

I feel Roy will take us backwards.

  132. JK exposed.  One of the LFC forums shows he was working for Purslow to discredit Rafa.......

    ReplyDelete
  133. Guess what, I killed JFK too.

What a load of crap. Whilst I admit to having met Purslow several times (during which I gave him my views about Benitez, SOS etc, I am in no way on his payroll/working for him. That's just rubbish. I was merely a concerned fan. Show me this alleged proof and I will discredit it. and by the way, When I spoke to CP, he was 100% professional, and did not give his personal views on anything. He just listened.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Kanwar what do you have to say about Hodgson? All of a sudden Rafa is gone and you have lost interest? You are a phoney. I actually liked your articles for a while. Now I know you are full of crap.
